Lost Galleon

Rate this book
The Aztecs worshipped it. The Conquistadors stole it. History lost it.

Five hundred years ago, the Spanish Galleon, San Isadore, made a startling discovery. A stunning Aztec city hidden deep within the jungle, hundreds of miles further north than any other Aztec settlement. At the center of the city was an enormous pyramid. And atop this magnificent structure, an orb that opened a portal through which flowed tons of pure glittering gold. The Conquistadors couldn’t resist. They stole the orb and sailed off, heading north toward California through the Sea of Cortés, never to be seen again . . . Until now.

Because the galleon has been found, rising from the sands of the Sonoran Desert like a ghost. And within its hold, a prize with the power to change the world . . . or destroy it. Because it isn’t just gold that waits beyond the portal, but something dark and ancient. Something hungry.

And only one man stands in its way . . . John Decker.

Those of you who have read my reviews of this author will know what a great fan I am of his books. So it pains me to just give this a 4 star rating but I always give an honest opinion with all my reviews which I hope Anthony M Strong will forgive me for and appreciate.
It has a tenuous link with a previous book from a few years ago. It was one I read and thought "What if". You know what I mean, a story that could be expanded on, and here it is. I can't say which one because I don't want to give away spoilers.
Don't get me wrong, this is still a good book and well worth a read but did not seem to flow the same as previous stories. It got to the stage where it jumped from one cliche to another allowing me to guess most of the storyline and exactly the ending.
Please don't let my review put you of buying this book as I am sure many who read it will give it 5 stars, probably nearly all of them. It is fast paced with plenty of action with a great storyline but, for me, something was missing.
Please do buy this book and I, as usual, will be anticipating the next one as Anthony is one of my favourite authors and this didn't dampen my enthusiasm.

Not as good

I have read all of John decker adventures and I wasn't to impressed with this one. To hocus pocus, the story line was just too fake. Didn't care for Abby either, too pushy she really should have been sacrifice by the Aztecs.

It pains me to only give this book a four star review. I devoured the entire series up, I adored it, but this book left a lot to be desired. It felt almost like a copied/slightly edited/rehashed version of Cryptid Quest. I was very excited imagining the team exploring a Galleon, discussing the history, maybe ghost pirates? I didn’t know what to expect but I was quite let down. I’m not huge on aliens anyways, but the Galleon was almost like a second thought and besides a few pages it just disappeared.

The author is amazing, I don’t know how his brain has created so many good works in a row. I hope chooses to go back to more supernatural based books and leg the aliens/little orb things go for at least a little while.

Always a great story.

I always look forward To a new story from Anthony M. Strong. He is a great storyteller who sets a fantastic group of characters into yet another tale that keeps you riveted from the first page to the last. Lost Galleon is no exception. Though I had to put the book down from time to time ( sleep, my job, concert trip with my son), it is not easy to do. Deep down inside of me was that voice saying "Oh, come on...one more chapter!". Thank you Anthony for always providing a great escape from the mudane , and a fascinating and enjoyable trip into adventure.

Another in a long line of John Decker Thrillers

I wait patiently for each and every John Decker novel to be released. Anthony M Strong is a natural story teller who weaves a thrilling tale just at the edges of reality ala Preston & Child without the cumbersome explanation into all the technology, and just as thrilling as Michael Crichton but using the additional words necessary to paint the proper picture. I savored this one by not reading it all in one night, I used two, great story, and as always, can't wait for the next one.

A real page turner!

Decker is back and searching for something he has already dealt with in the past. He might not know exactly how it works, but he has some understanding of the alien technology he has encountered before. But this time others are involved and it gets a little dicey. I enjoyed the little bit of history in this one. Great storyline and a really fast read! Highly recommend!

Needs more careful editing

Lost Galleon was a good read, but not as gripping as other books in the series, it took me three days to read. I normally devour these books in one setting. I have enjoyed the complete John Decker series with the exception of Book 11-which was such a disappointing read. So, Lost Galleon was not the worst
in the series, just not the best.

Not my favorite book in the series. I'm not sure why, but the premise failed to capture my imagination. I kept hoping the author wouldn't leave the reader with a cliffhanger. That said, I will definitely continue with the series as this is only the second book out of 16 that didn't ring the bell for me.

Great dimension traveling adventure!

John Decker and his team are sent to recover a mysterious object from a recently discovered Spanish galleon. Nothing goes as planned because they aren't the only ones looking. Great adventure, fascinating glimpse into life in an Aztec city. I can't wait to see where John's next adventure will take us!

Love, love this series!!

I didn’t write a review after each book. I was too invested in reading the next book. I have read all 16 of the books and can’t wait for the next one to come out ! These books are absolutely great a bit of a mystery a little sci-fi and some humor. A little of everything I enjoy. Highly recommend these books.

Excellent Excellent book!!! This series grabs you right from the beginning all the way until the end. Looks like a new character has just joined CUSP. Unfortunately now I have to wait until the next book!!! Happy Reading :)

This was my first book by this author. It was a recommendation from my Facebook feed. I really enjoyed it! There were a few typos, but it was a quick read. I also learned this author lives in my area!
I'm going to go read the first John Decker book and start the whole series.

Bit of a disappointment

The plot was not as imaginative as previous books. New young assistant is annoying and lacks depth of character. Secretive nemesis also lacks depth of character. Strong has done better.

Galleon

John Decker 's new assignment is to find a lost Galleon rumored to be in the desert. Things get out of hand when others try to find it, too. Full of action adventure and creatures.

Great book

A great story with a great cast of characters. Lots of action and suspense to keep your attention. Well written and the action flows through the story. I recommend reading this to all that love fiction and John Decker.

The John Decker series is one of the best supernatural series I've ever read. Decker, Rory and his assistant Abby. Are taken to and alien world where Aztec warriors are waiting.

Back from the past and now married, Decker is back on the job for CUSP. When a mystical orb surfaces, he is sent in to retrieve it, before it falls into the wrong hands. Nothing is ever straightforward and he soon finds himself in a fight for survival and trying to find a way home.

Another great addition to an exciting series

I've enjoyed every book in this series, and here's hoping for more. While I do enjoy the books without John Decker. The Decker books are the best

Ok

Too much research not enough story. This was more history lesson than adventure. It was also less fun than the other books.

John was pushed aside for the Cade and Abby characters which was a mistake. I hope those two stay in the background going forward.

Decker Saves The Day

I enjoyed this book greatly. I love books with a little bit of history thrown in. Like I said in the title, John Decker saved the day again. As long as Anthony M. Strong keeps writing them, I'll keep reading them.

Another exciting and easy reading Decker novel!

Decker novels are just great, easy reads. Filled with adventure, lovable characters and a dose of history with a few pseudo science adjustments. Enjoyable.

Quick, enjoyable read

Another good adventure from Mr. Strong, with lots of action, relatable characters, and clean language. However, there were so many typos that it really detracted from the story. I would fire the editor!
