UPDATED EDITS AT THE BOTTOM

The rating is for this book only, not the entire series.
The entire series would be three out of five stars.

This is easily the best book of the series.

No I won't be reading it again as there are waaaayyyy too many books to get so little out of them (sorry?).

The actually writing style didn't improve (which is the biggest problem), but the plot did move faster (another problem In other books). A lot more important events occurred which is great as all the other books are minor things with a hiccup along the way.

Update: oh and with the Solaris reveal? Um yeah it wasn't that shocking and i guessed it with one of the last (and maybe first?) major clues that they gave. (Only a few chapters from the reveal but what ever I got it earlier).

Update: Okay so I've been reading the Lorien Legacies. Amazing series about Alien teenagers who travel to earth to save their planet and ours. Well I've noticed QUITE a few similarities in plot. So yeah they're listed below.

- teenagers who have been given numbers form powers/dreaming powers
- skills will evidently save the world
- bad guys are after them
- travel around the world finding everyone
- the main one, a guy, rescues everyone and (probably) save everyone
- not all of the numbered people survive
- bad guy has closer connections than they think ( family member to a friend)
- mistake someone who they thought was a number
- release the information that the world is in trouble to only get bad results from it

So I did investigating to find out which was published first. And sorry but it seems like the last thirteen would be the one to point fingers at. There are so many similarities, even in minor plot point. Maybe they have become cliche. Idk but this has made the stars for this series drop.

This series was just one massive roller coaster ride. So many ups and downs, and don't even start me on the cliffhangers. Let's just say this man is King. So here we are, it's finally wrapped up and I can't help but admit that my heart was broken just a teeny weeny bit. Also I really did not see the big reveal of who Solaris really is coming. What a joy to be part of such ride.

this book was amazing it gave me so many suprizes and i was shocked when i found out that Sebation was Soleris and that Doctor Dark was on his side. the way James left the series was good and if he wanted to he could make a follow on series.
Overall a great end to a great series the last thirteen will be missed lots

I'll be honest... I'm a little disappointed with this ending. This whole time, I've been rooting for Solaris (whom I knew from the beginning would either be Ben or Sebastian) to have good reasons to have done all the things he did and for his transition to be on the side of the Last Thirteen. When that didn't happen, and he died without making ammends, the book felt unfinished. Yes, the book acknowledges the questions it hasn't answered in a way that suggests they never will be, but I feel it would have been more satisfying to give Solaris (and Dark even) a character arc that made their decisions make sense. Though, I appreciate the hints earlier in the series that suggested Dark's possible evil nature. Still, it was a good ending if not the best. The idea of power in the air supplying the world is interesting.

Everything comes together in this grand finale and I was surprised when the big twist was revealed (a positive for me in a mystery). I am satisfied. Overall, I think this series is interesting. I can’t say I loved it but it’s solid work and enjoyable, perfect for those who appreciate a fast paced adventure story with thriller elements and a bit of technological speculative/urban fantasy twist to it. I think this was packaged under fantasy for my local library but it felt more like mystery to me and not bad for a mystery.

This was a very good end to the series. I feel satisfied with the ending and it was very exciting leading up to opening the dream gate. I also liked that Solaris’ identity was revealed so early in the book (even though I had figured it out several book ago) I was glad that I didn’t have to wait until the last 10 pages to find out for sure! I will miss these characters!

Finally caught hold of the remaining books (3,2,&1) in this series. Had been waiting to finish the series since a long time. Had lots of thrill reading this entire series. It is very nicely written.
Thank you James Phelan

I have to admit it took me a long time to finish this book. It was the end of the series, and I wasn't anxious for it to end. I will miss the characters. I would recommend that you read all thirteen in a row. They have a lot to say about good and evil in our world.

This book is the final gear in the machine (see what I did there?). The ending reinforces the glimpses throughout the earlier books, and there’s a fantastic face-off between Lora and Stella. One on the things I liked best about this series was the shades of grey approach to the characters – all were ‘good’ and ‘bad’ to some degree; all were tested as to how far they could be pushed.

Throughout the series, I liked the way different chapters were focalised through various characters - it allowed Phelan to tell the various threads perfectly. I did a mental 'yes!' when I came to the last third or sop of this book - which focalises through 'The Last Thirteen'. It adds to the action that it's not just from one character's perspective, and also reinforces that they're all in it together.

Stick with the series – this book makes it more than worth it.

3.5 stars. I felt the beginning was everywhere jumping between characters stories was confusing. I had a hard time remembering where the character was when the story went back. It all came together beautifully towards the end when the last thirteen were together.

I quite enjoyed the whole series. Although I felt the last book lacked something that the other books had, hence my lower rating. The Upper primary school/teen market will enjoy this series.

It started out well, but then from halfway, it didn't progress much. I might give the next one a go. It's a very thin book. Only about 200 pages.

Best adventure book series I've read so far! Unexpecting plot twists and events. Sebastian is Solaris?! AND he's the last Dreamer?! Man, who would've seen that coming! Great series. Love it.
