Being a Don’s wife means living in luxury; riding in foreign cars, dripping in diamonds, and having every room go silent when you walk in. Roux Rivera knew this feeling all too well – until one bloody night turns her life upside down. With no protection from the law or her husband’s peers, she ends up right back where she swore she’d never return; in her dusty hometown of Shady Springs, Missouri – where they’re whispers, rumors and haters gloating over her downfall.
Jade Johnson lost everything the night her Fiancé died. Feeling that Chicago is nothing but a graveyard of memories, she follows Roux to Missouri – ready to leave the hustle and bustle for a quiet life. However, the last thing Jade expects is her enemies to follow.
Jalenzo owns the flyest men’s boutique in the Midwest; dressing gangsters in custom suits while sliding secrets between the seams. He’s smooth with his words, sharp with his suits, and dangerous in a way that makes Jade want to look twice. Though he’s used to keeping people at arm’s length, things change when Jade walks into his store with her sad eyes and soft curves.
As the annual Cigars and Sundresses festival approaches, Jade attends only because Roux demands her to. But What begins as an unlikely connection, becomes a love story, shaped by loss, loyalty and the belief that sometimes the worst things that happens to us, are only leading us to the life we were always meant to have.

I was throughly entertained by this book from beginning to end. That opening, though, wheww I was shook. I enjoyed each of the characters, especially Roux. She showed strength throughout everything life threw at her. She really should've laid hands on her sister for how she treated her. Jade and Jalenzo were good for each other. I would've liked to have read more on their journey to love. Now that dang, Jalisse got exactly what she deserved. She played stupid games and won stupid prizes. Overall, I enjoyed the story, and I'm hoping the author spins the block for Roux to get her second chance at love.
I'm not understanding why Roux didn't have a separate bank account from her husband? Knowing what he did for a living. Mortissa was very rude and nasty. I see why her husband left her, but Oan should have still been their for the kids. Jahlisse played with fire and got burnt. Jalenzo was just what Jade needed to get over her past.
O’Sharra your modern day view on Boaz and Ruth is truly remarkable. You touched on everything women deal with envy, monetary blindness, social anxiety and depression. Any woman who reads this knows how to open up instead of suffering in silence.
This book had me feeling all kinds of emotions. That is a terrible way to lose your husband and fiance but things turned out great for Jade and her mother in law. Great Read!
