In a world of high-class magic and gangster grit, a star-crossed couple must decide where their loyalties lie in the sizzling romantasy follow-up to BookTok star Stacey McEwan’s New York Times bestseller A Forbidden Alchemy.

In Belavere Trench, the Artisans and the Craftsmen are at war. Patrick, the last Alchemist, and Nina, the world’s only known earth Charmer, have been captured by the Artisans, putting Patrick’s rebel union in a precarious position.

Though he hasn’t forgiven Nina her betrayals, Patrick has other things to worry about. He is finally reunited with his father, a prisoner of the Artisans, and the group lands a narrow escape only with the help of Nina’s first love, Theo. Decoding an ancient prophecy, they set off in search of an infinite supply of idium that will determine the course of the war, should it prove more than a myth. Fleeing across Craftsman towns on the brink, they will encounter old friends—and enemies—in search of answers.

“Bury them all” 🪦

Oh, you thought book 1 buried you with plot twists? Book 2 literally tears a seam down the middle of the world and pushes you in so you can’t climb back up.

“How could I tell him that I was every bit as terrible as he feared and still have him love me in the end?”

After the deepest level of betrayal, Nina and Patrick navigate a path (or should I say tunnel?) covered in glass. The pain is real, the cuts are deep. Two shattered hearts trying to figure out if they can piece themselves back together again. The growth, THE TENSION and the longing had me on the edge of my seat. PLUS we have Theo stirring the pot!

“I think you and I . . .we’re meant to carry on as we are. Broken parts and all.”

I will die on the hill that Patrick is Tommy Shelby.
Can we please bring suspenders back? The loyalty this man has for his family, his town, the ones he loves - it’s unmatched!

Book 2 also expands the world, that crazy network of underground tunnels all lead to towns that get to to be explored! As the characters get pulled to different locations we also get to learn more about the history & origin of magic. Be prepared, there are so many insane twists! Theo, Polly, John, Rose.. arrghh I can’t!

I honestly can’t wait for book 3! I’m not ready to leave this world so I’m diving into a re-read of book 1 🙌🏼

—-

“If I was a knife, then I could rip and slash and gouge until the aching ebbed. It wasn’t idium I wanted. It was revenge.”

“Patrick’s eyes had always been a danger to me. One glance, and I was swallowed”

Literally need this in my hands yesterday. It's been two months and I'm still thinking about book one. I miss Patty.

Ngl, while I am not surprised bc AFA is phenomenal and deserves a million NG requests for AFP, the NetGalley denial stung a little bit for this one BUT Saga is a real one for sending that sampler. I am SO stoked and I cannot wait for Summer to get my hands on this book!!!

This starts off so strong — literally picking up right where the last book left us, which I always love in a sequel. It immediately pulled me back into the story and the world.

One of the big changes in this book is that we get quite a few new POVs. The first book was just Patrick and Nina, so it was interesting to see the story open up to other characters. I’m not totally convinced the extra perspectives added a huge amount overall, but they were still a welcome addition and helped flesh out the wider world.

Around the 40–60% mark the pacing dipped a little and things slowed down. Personally I didn’t mind too much because there were some really lovely moments tucked into that section — little bits of absolute gold. Miss Trunk, the old woman who can only communicate through piano in her antiques shop, was such a standout character. And Polly discovering all the letters Otto had sent her after she betrayed everyone? That moment hit so well. There were some real gems in this book — I just wanted even more of them.

Patrick and Nina still completely have my heart. I adore them and I’m desperately hoping we get even more of them in book three. And Donny’s wit was such a welcome reprieve during some of the heavier parts of the story — I loved every time he showed up.

The prophecy about the three daughters was such an interesting concept, but I do think it could have been a bit clearer. I kept expecting some big reveal — like Nina being an ancestor or somehow holding the powers of all three sisters — something that tied it all together in a bigger way. Because of that, parts of the book did feel a little bit like a bridge or filler book in the series.

That said, I still thoroughly enjoyed it and the yearning was absolutely on point.

I will 100% be picking up book three — honestly I cannot wait!

“You seein’ this shithole?” “I’m blind, cockhead.”

Donny strikes again! Possibly my fav side character ever! He gives Carrion a run for his money.

This book picked right up where it left off, and that was in a gut wrenching scene, the emotions were high reading through this story with the hurt, anger, betrayal, the heartbreak, the quests and the friendships!

“War was a gentlemen’s game. Women were just the currency”

The blue balls the slow burn gave me were big! Stacey, you’ve ruined me for all other men. No one will ever compare to Patrick!!!!!

“When you look up at me like that, darlin’,” he said in warning, “it’s like darin’ me to ruin you.

Thankyou to netgalley for this arc.

I was nervous for this book, not gonna lie. So many books suffer from that sophomore book curse where the heroine goes on her hero journey and finds self discovery or whatever. This book did not feel that way at all.

I'm so distraught now, having been in a book slump for WEEKS. Stacey revived me but also I NEED BOOK 3 ALREADY. Back to Slumpville I go.

This book gave everything that I hoped it would. We got to see more lore, more heart, more Patrick 🫦, just more.

Thank you so much to the author, Saga Press and Netgalley for the opportunity to review this title. I attest that I am leaving my review voluntarily and honestly.

Holy crap—this book is so good.

This was one of my most anticipated reads of 2026, and I’m honestly so glad I got the ARC because it completely lived up to the hype. The entire time I was reading, I kept thinking, this is so good. And what’s even crazier is that feeling never dropped—not once. If the book had ended at any point, it still would’ve been a 5-star read for me. And when I got to the actual ending? Same feeling.

It never lagged. It’s fast-paced, super engaging, and I was locked in from start to finish.

What really stood out to me is that this book delivers on everything. So many romantasy books lean heavily on romance and let the plot fall to the side—but not this one. The plot, the world, the storyline—all of it is incredibly well done. And then on top of that, the banter is phenomenal. Not just between Nina and Patrick (which is amazing), but between all the characters. The dynamic between the men had me laughing out loud—I could literally hear their Irish accents the entire time.

And the tension between Nina and Patrick? Painful in the best way. The yearning is so well done and just keeps building the entire book.

I also loved the additional storylines—Theo, John—there’s just so much here to sink into, and it all works together.

I could honestly go on and on, but bottom line: I loved this book. I’m fully obsessed, and I cannot wait for the next one. This series is already shaping up to be one of my all-time favorites.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance copy. All opinions are my own.

This was one of my top anticipated reads of 2026 and it did not disappoint!! The world in the series is by far one of my favorites! And the relationship of Patrick and Nina is just the best! You thought the twists were amazing in book 1! Buckle up for the roller coaster of book two! The yearning, the mystery, the anticipation that is in this book is phenomenal! I am beyond thankful I was chosen to receive an arc copy of this book! If you do not have it preordered… you need to add it to your cart immediately!!

This is book two in The Artisan Trilogy, where Patrick the last alchemist and Nina the only earth-charmer are caught in the middle of a full-on war between magic factions and end up chasing an ancient prophecy that could decide the entire conflict. It’s basically rebels, betrayals, exes showing up, and a road-trip quest for a mythical resource while everyone is fighting for power.

I feel like this is peak romantasy chaos with politics, tension, and messy feelings layered on top of worldbuilding. It reads like dramatic fantasy TV in book form, and I’d be here for the emotional disasters.

It’s not often a book leaves me completely speechless but this one did. The moment I closed it, I just sat there, trying to process everything.

Absolutely magnificent. I devoured every page.

Stacey has such a talent for pulling you into her world and making you feel everything. Every emotion hits, this story is a full emotional rollercoaster, and I was completely along for the ride.

We pick up right where A Forbidden Alchemy left off, and from the very beginning I was on the edge of my seat. The plot is so well thought out, the storytelling is incredible, and those twists! Some genuinely had my jaw on the floor.
The way the world building expands from book one is fantastic and makes the story that more interesting.

Patrick and Nina, I love so them. Their chemistry is electric, intense, and completely addictive. You can feel every moment between them.
Also their growth and character development was spot on!

And when an author makes you care just as much about the secondary characters, you know the story is something special. I was just as invested in them, sometimes even raging at them too 😂

If you’ve been thinking about picking up this series, do it. I can’t recommend it enough, you won’t regret it.

5/5 ⭐️

Phenomenal. Chef’s kiss. 5 stars. In fact, take all my stars.

Incredibly action packed, not a dull scene. It picked up right up from that godforsaken cliffhanger in Forbdiden Alchemy, one book ending I will never forget. My heart was constantly racing, I was at the edge of my seat, you could not pry this book from my hands when I was immersed into it, loved every second.

Patrick. Patty, my man. I LOVE HIM. He’s so perfect. No notes.

An absolutely perfect second book for a trilogy, which as they say is very hard to do. Stacey knows what she’s doing and she DELIVERS.

The world politics. The romance. The tension. The character dynamics. THE DIALOGUE. Loved it all!! Girl knows how to keep my interest, and keep my heart racing because omg the stakes.

Stacey I need book three. I can’t wait a year, PLEASE!

I swear these books have crack in them bc they are soooooo good!!! I love the gloomy atmosphere and setting and the stakes of the story. I will forever love Patrick and he can do no wrong ever. These books inspired me to watch Peaky Blinders and I’m just as obsessed. I love how different these fantasy books feel and it’s a refreshing breath for the genre. I can’t believe how long I’m now going to have to wait for the next book 🥲

Big thank you to Simon and Schuster and to netgalley for the e-arc!

This book picks up immediately after A Forbidden Alchemy and instantly hooks you back into the story. There’s action and high stakes straight from the beginning and I was invested in the story immediately. We begin with Nina and Patrick taken prisoner by the House whilst also dealing with the breakdown of their relationship after all the lies and betrayals.

The dynamic of their relationship has obviously changed a lot and the angst of it all hurt my heart. Patrick wants to hate her but also can’t take his eyes off of her, protects her at every turn, wants to give her the room to make her own decisions. Being in his perspective and reading the thoughts he had about Nina made me feel half giddy with excitement and half devastated because they weren’t actually together.

The slowburn was absolutely excruciating and had me on the edge of my seat. The longing from him in this book? The yearning? So good. He’s so underrated as a book boyfriend and I will gladly hype him up so everyone else can meet him and love him as much as I do.

Also, we all love a f**k it moment and this book did it PERFECTLY!!

I did rate book one highly too but any of the minor complaints I did have were completely gone in this book. The plot flowed a lot better, I felt like there wasn’t a point I ever thought it was slow or I was waiting for things to pick back up again. Of course the betrayals and twists didn’t end either, Stacey McEwen has a way of subtly dropping them in there and then continuing with the story while I’m over here just completely reeling and you know what? I love it.

The characters are also a high point for this series. They’re all so morally grey and complex with layers and different motivations and the constant turns of working together, betrayal and then redemption kept me so invested. There’s definitely a few I have a lot of complicated feelings for and honestly it makes me even more excited for the next book to see where they end up. There was a moment close to the end where it really hit me just how much I love both Nina and Patrick, they’re a book couple I will think about a lot and I really hope at the end of this they get some sort of HEA.

The ending? I feel like I should thank Stacey for not traumatising me because for a few minutes there I was so scared but it still ended in an absolutely insane way and I’m so invested. Now I impatiently await the third book and daydream about Patrick Colson🥹😭

I literally devoured A Forbidden Alchemy, so I was BEYOND excited when I got the approval for this eARC!!!!

First of all, the world and the prophecy element in this series just keeps getting more fascinating. The way the story peels back layers of the prophecy and what it actually means had me completely hooked. Every time I thought I understood what was going on… something else shifted and suddenly everything felt more dangerous and complicated. I LOVE when a fantasy series keeps expanding the lore in ways that make the story feel bigger and more intense.

I am so attached to Nina and Pat, honestly I love every single character in this book!!!! Minus a couple but I won’t spoil!!!! Everyone feels layered and human, making choices that aren’t always easy or perfect but that make sense for who they are. Watching their loyalties, fears, and relationships evolve under the pressure of everything happening was so compelling.

The plot is nonstop tension throughout. This book does such a good job balancing the political intrigue, the magical elements, and the character-driven moments so that everything feels important. I genuinely didn’t want to stop reading because I needed to know what would happen next.

Also can we talk about how Stacey McEwan writes emotional scenes??? Because WOW!!!!!!!! By the end I was equal parts thrilled and emotionally wrecked, which honestly is exactly what I want from a fantasy like this.

If you love character-driven fantasy with prophecy, high stakes, intense relationships, and a world that keeps getting deeper the more you learn about it, this series is SUCH a ride.

Five stars easily. And now I will be impatiently waiting to see what happens next because I am absolutely not done with this story yet!!!

Thank you so much to Stacey McEwan, Simon & Schuster, and NetGalley for this eARC!!!

A Forsaken Prophecy is a thrilling and tension filled adventure, and an excellent sequel to A Forbidden Alchemy.

In the wake of the events and betrayal at Kenton Hill, earth charmer Nina Clarke and Patrick Colson, the acting head of the miners union, are taken by the House and forced to confront Lord Tanner. But a tragic series of events, and the recovery of a mysterious book, lead Nina and Patrick back to the Brink, trying to stay one step ahead of the House and their infantry of magic wielding Artisans. Reluctant allies once more, can Nina and Patrick find their way back to each other in light of all the betrayals on both sides?

I LOVED this one! LOVED IT! A Forbidden Alchemy was a favorite book last year, and I am absolutely thrilled to have received an early copy of A Forsaken Prophecy. We see some familiar faces, have some new POV chapters, and learn more about the House and the Artisans. We also learn more about Idia and the history of Belavere Trench, and how much those in power seek to control the narrative. This book was full of twists, action, and so much romantic tension. It is a true slow-burn, as Nina and Patrick must deal with their past betrayals, and the cuts that go too deep, but the payoff is so worth it. I also really loved the historical arc with Idia, and the underlying thread of women fighting for their rights and freedom for centuries. This book keep me so engaged throughout - it is literally non-stop. I can not wait for Book 3!

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Saga Press for the advanced copy of this incredible book. All opinions are my own.

Absolute perfection!!

Far out, Stacey has done it again with all the twists and turn. I was shook!

I loved that it picked up exactly where book one ended, with Pat and Nina in a tunnel and their futures unsure. I loved that in this book we got to see more of the world and also got more perspectives. Donny was a fave of mine in book one and the role he played in this part of the story was so good.

This book has something for everyone.
- found family
- betrayal
- yearning
- secrets (and when you think you’ve figured them out, you haven’t)

When you get to the end you are in for a treat with the epilogue. What the actual!! I need book three right now.

Thank you NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for the ARC.

aaah, this book is so hard to review as I ADORED book one. I loved the peaky blinders vibes, the magic felt authentic and different but this book took me forever to get into and even then, my attention dipped in and out of it. The pacing was off and I felt the plot was going around in circles, particularly in the middle. A lot was happening but also not a lot? I was kinda thrown.
however, the slow burn was BURNING and the tension was ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥
I feel like I need to sit with this one

10/10 follow-up, almost no notes. The Nina/Patrick yearning was exactly what I hoped for, as was the deeper dive into the Colson family. Donny POV chapters! 🤌🏻 Perfection. I love this series for not being afraid to be deep and dark, but still being sexy and fun too.

This was one of my most anticipated reads this year and of course it didn’t disappoint. This story literally picks up right where the book 1 ends. The betrayal and hurt is so palpable and I could feel it coming off the page.
Patrick, Nina and Theo story just twists and turns from there. Patrick yearning was felt, he had so many feelings he had to work through but one thing for sure that man loved Nina with all he had. Nina had so many things thrown at hurt and the tenacity to overcome them was perfect. My heart hurt with her and broke as well. Theo, oh Theo, I loved seeing him really grow in this book. I was really proud of him even when I felt like punching him. This book is filled with so much world building and it was just what we needed. I cannot wait for book 3! If you enjoy 1920s gangsters, magic, world building, an MMC who yearns then I highly recommend this book!

✨ARC Review✨

Patrick CARRIED this book on his back.

I read A Forbidden Alchemy last year and I had a lot of fun with it. I really liked the atmosphere of the book, I loved the banter between Patrick and Nina, and I loved the magic and visualizing it. I loved the family all together and the stakes, it was overall a really good time.

A Forsaken Prophecy takes place right after the events of A Forbidden Alchemy and it was interesting. We get more POV's this book and that can be a plus, but it might have been a determent to this sequel. Sometimes it felt like it halted the momentum of the story. I still enjoyed myself, but I feel like less POV's can be better cause you can connect with the characters more.

I LOVED Nina, Patrick, and Theo being captured together, and I LOVED Theo's character growth in this book. I actually felt really bad for him, and I want him to find his happily ever after, especially since Polly said people like her and Theo don't usually get their happily ever after. So sad. I didn't like how much of a "love triangle" was a source of arguments in a few scenes, and I didn't like how Nina reacted to Theo being so vulnerable, but it's fine, she kind of made up for it.

Nina was good, she goes THROUGH IT in this book, this girl cannot catch a break it seems, but I liked how she handled things, or rather didn't handle things, and seeing how her power is growing out of her control. It was fun to see that played around with and Patrick being her anchor in a way.

Patrick... incredible. The LINES this man delivers, the YEARNING, and trying to hold himself back was TORTURE, but in the best way. The care and love his has for Nina, how he shows it through his actions, phenomenal. His page presence knocked it out of the park. Although I will say his hotheadedness got a little much throughout the book with how easily he was triggered, but it was okay and I can look past it because I love him.

The plot was a tad bit slow for me this book. It's the second book so I feel like it got into the category of slow second book in a trilogy leading up to the finale, but it did hold my attention for the most part. I am scared, especially with that epilogue, of how the third book will go and the hopelessness we will potentially be feeling in it.

Random things I loved: I loved Mrs. Trunk using a piano in order to speak, I thought that was so sweet and clever. I loved that Otto wrote letters to Polly! When the FMC wears a beautiful, revealing gown, and the MMC who is trying to keep a distance from her sees her and struggles... a masterpiece.

Lines I loved:
- "There are lines I can't cross with you again."
- "Eyes on me."
- "Do me a favor Nina, and don't come any closer."
" Why?"
"Because I'm a man like any other and not a very good one."
- "It's better to be near you and know you are safe than to be without you at all."
- "Do you want me to tell you what men see when they look at you?"
- "Scurry girl"
- "I've got a miner in the North, he'd be forlorn if I left."
"Pretty girl like you? With a miner? Such a waste."

All in all, this was a decent sequel, I did enjoy the first book a little more, I thought it was paced a little better and I connected a little more with the characters, but this book had Patrick being Patrick and that is enough for me. I am excited to see how this all concludes, I just hope everyone who deserves some form of happiness gets it, I'm looking at you Theo, and Polly, and Patrick, and Donny.

Thank you so much for an ARC!

Thank you to Net Galley, Simon and Schuster UK and Stacy McEwan for the ARC of A Forsaken Prophecy in exchange for an honest review.

I genuinely can’t believe I managed to get my hands on an early copy of this book. From the moment I finished A Forbidden Alchemy I have been pining after this much anticipated sequel and let me tell you, I was not disappointed.

This book is delicious in all the best ways.

A Forsaken Prophecy follows immediately on from A Forbidden Alchemy. We follow Nina, Patrick and the gang as they strive to decode an ancient book which could hold the answer to all their problems, with the help of some familiar but not necessarily welcome faces.

When I say this book is filled to the brim with tension, I mean it. And we’re talking all different types of tension. I loved experiencing the friction between the characters as I was reading through. It was so rewarding to read as Patrick as he struggles with his feelings for Nina after the betrayal he faced in book 1. It was also interesting to see Theo’s perspective and the tension he has with his father as his belief system is pretty much shattered over the events of the book. There are so many other amazing examples I can give here in regards to the tensions Stacy creates but I’m anxious not to give anything away!

I touched on it briefly above but this book jumps from POV to POV similar to book 1 however we get more insights into other characters in this book. More POVs is normally a turn off for me but the characters are presented in such a clear and distinct way it’s easy to fall into each character as your reading through. Not to mention everyone is so interesting and dynamic, I wanted to know what they were experiencing!

The level of suspense is also incredible in this book, again so many examples but the one that sticks out to me is the chapters we got in Donny’s POV. We can see this tower of cards starting to tumble around him as he try’s to pick up the pieces in Kenton Hill and as the reader you know it’s only matter of time before something gives. It’s the type of plot which has you racing through because you need to know what happens!

And I can’t talk about A Forsaken Prophecy without mentioning the romance. I absolutely love Patrick and Nina, I think they complement each other perfectly and while I found myself at times shouting my kindle for them to just ‘kiss already!!!’ I completely loved the distance and growth between them in this book and am super intrigued for what’s in store in book 3.

Now just to set a timer for July next year for book 3.

I’m not desperate …. You are!!!

Thank you SO MUCH NetGalley for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for a review!!

“Whatever lies in wait here, you’ve faced worse. Remember that. You’re stronger now.”

THE SCREAM I SCREAMMMTTTT. Once again, Stacey McEwan has ripped out my heart and mind (but really what did I expect after reading the first book 🫠)

A Forsaken Prophecy takes place literally right after A Forbidden Alchemy. Without spoilers, I thoroughly enjoyed the highs and lows of the plot. I also loved how the author didn’t shy away from the characters experiencing their own inner turmoil. Each character had their own flaws and insecurities but it was so interesting and addicting to keep reading. The betrayals and plot twists do not compare to ANYTHING in the first book. I was on the edge and internally screamed because of all the twists, pot stirring 👀, and TENSION goes craaazy!!! 👀👀

The author also continues on in the mix of first and third person POVs and was done in a way that didn’t leave me confused. I feel like keeping to this style of reading was interesting because it really felt like I was IN that world. I also loved how the plot evolved to drive in the high stakes of the book. By the time you get to the end you’re like “UM WHAT THEEE”.

I loved reading the first book in the series and this did not disappoint. I hate that I’m already itching to read the next one. Now if you need me, don’t…. because I will be thinking about this for the next year. 😭

5⭐️ Loved it! A must own book.

Read this if you like rebellion stories, messy redemption arcs, multi-POV chaos, and tension so sharp it practically cuts you.

📖What’s inside:
Quest for Magic 🧭
Multi POV (with tense shifts 👀)
✊ Rebellion
On-page intimacy 🔴
Redemption stories (yes multiple. Everyone is sorry, but do we forgive them? Idk)
Explicit language
🌈 Inclusive
Hate to love kinda (it’s complicated)
🤫 Secrets and betrayals

✨Vibes:
I got Mockingjay rebellion energy in this one, but honestly? This book is doing its own thing.

Book boyfriend meter: ❤️‍🔥
Endgame. No notes.

💭Thoughts: Patrick… my man. The tension in this book is unreal — hurt, longing, and so much emotional push and pull. I loved the multiple POVs (even with the tense shifts) and how distinct each character felt. The pacing dragged a bit in places, but the story and writing more than made up for it. This series feels so unique, and I’m fully invested. Easy 5 stars.

➕Should you add this to your TBR?
Absolutely.

Continue this series.

Especially if you’re craving something that feels fresh, emotional, and a little bit different from everything else out there.

Thank you to Sagapress books and Netgalley for an eARC copy of this book. Keeping it real with my honest thoughts as always. 🖤

THIS BOOK!! This is the standard for what every second book in a series should be!! It was INCREDIBLE! The pacing, the plot development, the character arcs, the tension, the romance, the twists!! Every single POV was utilized perfectly! I went through the full spectrum of emotions and every single trope/micro-trope was embedded in the absolute best way possible!!

Patrick!!! This man!!! He has me enraptured and completely under his spell! He speaks and I am at his mercy!! He is supportive, protective, the way he defends those he loves and the way that man offers comfort..… I just cannot get enough!!

We really start to understand the whys/motivations behind certain actions in this one and the layers to all of these characters is insane! It is proof that everything is grey, nothing is black and white. It all depends on perspective! That epilogue had me freaking out and I will be counting down the days until the finale! If you haven’t started this trilogy, now is the time! It is an absolute must read!

Thank you so much to Saga Press/S&S for the review copy!

“it’s clear to me now that you could betray me in the worst ways, and I’d still step over every code I have to defend you.”

“I don’t want a good man,” she said. “I want the one in front of me.”

“You’re impossible to ignore.”

“When you look at me like that, darlin’,” he said in warning, “it’s like darin’ me to ruin you.”

“Lord, I’m a weak man when it comes to you.”
