Eight years ago, a vicious lie cost Eddie Weaver everything—his job, his friends, his family, his entire life. Branded a monster, he was left to rot alone.
Today, he returns to his hometown with nothing but a list of names—and a plan for revenge, eight years in the making.
Per Jacobsen is a Danish author best known for writing thrillers with supernatural elements. He got his literary debut in 2018 when he won a writing competition issued by Byens publishing house in Denmark. Shortly afterwards, he signed a contract with the publishing house Valeta, also in Denmark, who published his debut novel, The mirror cabinet. Per Jacobsen's next three books (books 1-3 in the Strung trilogy) were translated and gave him his international breakthrough as they quickly went to the top of the bestseller list in several countries, including the US and England. Today, Per Jacobsen is a full-time writer and lives permanently in southern Spain with his wife and two children.
I was a huge fan of 25 DAYS by Per Jacobsen, so when I got the arc for WEAVER, I couldn't wait to dive in. It's a decent sized novel and I read it in just two sittings. This book and the MMC were written perfectly. It features a cool interview style as well. And again, Eddie, the MMC, was done fantastically and will forever be a memorable character.
This book is what happens when you FAFO by being dishonest, and then the person decides to play their hand at karma. I was actually rooting for the "bad guy" in this story. The ending had such a fantastic twist that I did NOT see coming, which is always a 10/10 for me. It's quite transgressive and gritty, and I also really liked seeing from Jacobsen.
WEAVER will definitely make one of my top-read lists, and I highly recommend it to everyone!
I liked the premise of the book, but I think that the actual revenges taken should have been more detailed. For example, the revenge for Kelly, what was it? What revenge did he take upon her? What was the aftermath? It’s like you just mentioned her and moved on to the next. She was one of the main reasons Eddie lost everything, but you didn’t tell her fate. I feel the same with Steven. As I said, the premise was good, but the meat of the story was lacking.
I want to first say this author writes really well. He’s good at pulling you in but with that being said I kept waiting for something more in this book because I don’t care who you are, you don’t agree to go meet a teenaged girl alone in the dark knowing no one is around. No matter the reason. I mean at least bring someone with you, like this guy could’ve brought his wife. So even when the whole thing got dropped, if I was the people in that town or even his wife. I wouldn’t believe that you didn’t have something more on your mind that night, when you went to go meet that girl, because that’s just not right and he kinda deserved what happened afterwards for being so dumb to an extent. Especially when you already knew what those group of kids just did to a girl in their school and the girl he was going to meet was part of that group. So that part was not plausible to me because I don’t think anyone would be that dumb. I did like how it made you think and realize how easily you can have your life ruined especially in the day and age of the internet. But this definitely needed a different more plausible way that that happened to this guy in the book.
Eddie Weaver is a typical high school teacher until he is falsely accused of an attack on one of his students. This book follows his journey to exact revenge against those involved and those who refuse to stand up for him. The plot is complex and you will find yourself teying to figure out what is gong to happen next (you may or may not be able to do so!)
The book is well-written and I enjoyed the way the story unfolded. Don't look for a HEA ending (or even a complete resolution) because you won't get it. However, I think we can all relate to having thoughts of getting revenge on someone for their actions. It is also a good reminder to be careful of spreading rumors or believing everything you see or read...you probably aren't getting all the facts. And, this can often cause great misery for those who are falsely accused based on rumors.
Since I have been involved in a similar situation, this book really hit close to home for me. The author is a great storyteller and I recommend any of his books to those who enjoy this genre.
Great Read - Makes You Squirm Knowing What Happens To Eddie Is Closer To Reality Than Most Of Us Want To Believe
I really enjoyed this authors writing style. I really liked the past and present format and thought being interviewed by the police was a great way to lay out everything. While the story is fiction, what happens to Eddie could happen to any of us and while I received no enjoyment reading about the past, I did enjoy reading what Eddie pulled off. I thought the ending was even fitting and that’s all I will say because I don’t want to leak any spoilers.
This is a horror book that is more a thriller, organized in an unusual way. Police interrogate Eddie in 2018 as he tells the story from 2009 that ruined his life. He was a teacher at a local high school when he angered some of the students so much that they decided to get back at him by accusing him of inappropriate behavior with a female student. We get the entire story via flashbacks, along with his present-day interviews with the police where he appears to tell them how he exacted revenge. The story is clever and tricky, requiring the reader to pay full attention to the action. Excellent!
I think this was my favorite if i this author's work. He wove this story so masterfully that I couldn't put it down. It only took me two nights to read and I wouldn't dare go to sleep because I didn't want to stop reading.
The way the main character has his life ruined, only to get revenge on in such poetically just ways is amazing.
I simply can't write this review without giving spoilers, so, just READ IT ALREADY!!
Always excited when I find a good author on my kindle unlimited subscription. The main character easily illicits sympathy as many of us have had not so good things happen to us that were not in our control and not fair. His meticulous planning was exciting to follow, I just wish he would have had a more hopeful conclusion ( hence the 4 stars.) Will for sure check out other books by this author. Highly recommend!!
This was a book club pick and damn I flew through this one. I do wish that this one was longer as I wanted it to go in more depth for each individual. But other than that I had a fun time reading it. I did guess the plot twist at the end but it was still fun twist. I will definitely be reading more books by this author
Lets talk about morally gray and I am 100% HERE FOR IT! This book is dark, emotional, and haunting in the best way. The tension never lets up. The character depth is insane and Per makes sure you feel every ounce of pain, rage, and descent into the darkness with each page. I couldn't stop reading it was just so good.
I cannot stop thinking about it. Highly recommend.
This was a great read! I loved going back and forth between the interrogation and the events that lead to it. The chapters were great lengths. The characters were well developed (just enough info). That ending...loved it!
I would definitely recommend this book! And the author, for that matter! I have quickly become a huge fan of theirs!
Not the thriller I was expecting ... but it was thrilling!
Every chapter revealed another twist you didn't see coming. Great depiction of the devastation caused by deceitful allegations and a brilliant plot for revenge. The characters were well developed. I pitied the victims and despised the villains. This was a fast and fun read from start to finish.
This is a fantastic dark story of revenge, made even darker by the realization that some elements of the tale could actually happen. This might be one of those occasions where you find yourself rooting for the "bad guy," at least sometimes, as you sympathize with Weaver and his situation, becoming invested in what set him on his path of revenge and exactly what he plans to do about it.
I love a good revenge story . the only problem I had was that there were multiple spacing in between words that were far apart , meaning the book wasn't proof read . Great read though
Just what we all want at one time or another. Genius. Will look for more by this brilliant author. Plato was wrong - most of us wouldn't do it. But its nice to hear about some who would. This review is going on too long.
Rating 3.5/5 I love a good revenge plot! This one was okay, the revenge could’ve been more interesting.. for instance, Kelly (she’s the one that basically ruined everything for him) didn’t get it half as bad as the others, but i guess it all worked in his favor.
This is a fast read, one you won’t want to put down. It’s about a man, Eddie Weaver, married, teaching at the local high school- that is, until he’s set up. He loses everything, and in that he seeks vengeance, and he goes about it very methodically.
Bravo this was great fast read OMG I couldn’t read it fast enough I commend you for a very enjoyable experience and added to my must read author thank you
Four stars because it was too short. This book was amazing, one of those “I wish I’d thought of that” though I did hope Weaver would have a happy ending…. Who knows, maybe he did?
