Sam Shepard - author, playwright, actor, director, Pulitzer Prize winner, and arguably one of the most photogenic men of our time - is the subject of this unique black & white monograph, published in 1990 to benefit the Film Forum in New York City, "a sanctuary for filmmakers." The images in this book were taken in two sittings, the first in New Mexico, the second at Shepard's home in Virginia. With his stoic profile and pensive gaze set against a dusty western landscape, these portraits of Shepard have an iconic feel, as if drawn from the pages of one of his plays. Shepard's then girlfriend/partner Jessica Lange is featured with Shepard in a number of the photos. Weber's essay for the volume narrates his experiences in Tangier, when he gave Paul Bowles a copy of Shepard's "Hotel Chronicles."
