Sturdy Cora: A Mail Order Bride Story

Rate this book
Cora Smith has spent her life in the shadow of her younger sisters. Where they are delicate and admired, she is called sturdy and plain. Now, as her sisters begin families of their own, Cora fears she will be left behind forever. When she dares to answer an advertisement in a Matrimonial Gazette, she wonders if God might yet have a place prepared for her heart.

Patrick O’Malley has carved a life out of the Kansas prairie, proving his homestead with sweat and prayer. The farm is flourishing, yet his house is silent and his days are lonely. Believing God has more for him than soil and toil, he places an advertisement for a wife, longing for a woman of faith and strength to share his days.

Through months of letters, Cora and Patrick’s words knit them together. But when she boards the train to Kansas, Cora carries the weight of her deepest that once he sees her, he will regret his choice. On the wide prairie, amid faith, friendship, and the work of the land, Cora must learn to see herself through her husband’s eyes — not as plain or unwanted, but as a blessing from God.

A tender story of new beginnings, tested faith, and the quiet courage of love, Sturdy Cora is a clean and heartfelt mail-order bride romance that reminds us all that God’s plan is greater than our doubts.
