ARC Review: Whispers in the Dark by Ashlei Morelli Release Date: 1st September 2025
Whispers in the Dark is a gripping and atmospheric read that kept me turning the pages. Ashlei Morelli does a fantastic job building tension and creating an eerie, suspenseful tone that lingers even after you’ve finished. The premise is compelling, and the writing pulls you in right from the start.
I especially enjoyed the way the story maintains a steady sense of unease throughout. It’s one of those books that you can easily sink into, with moments that made me want to keep going till the end.
That said, I found myself wishing it had been a little longer. The plot is strong, but I would have loved more depth in the character development to really connect with the people at the heart of the story. A few extra chapters to explore their relationships would have made it even more powerful.
Overall, though, Whispers in the Dark is a well-written and captivating book that I truly enjoyed. If you’re looking for something atmospheric, tense, bingeworthy and a little haunting, this is definitely worth picking up. I’ll be keeping an eye out for more of Morelli’s work!
This was a quick, intense read for me. I loved the format and the writing style. This was a great story told from the POV of both main characters. This gave us insight from both sides, which really helped tell the story. I was drawn in immediately.
I gave it 4 stars because I felt like something was missing. I wanted to know what happened with her father. It was also hinted that this was a large conspiracy with the town. I felt like others were involved and wanted more of the story. I was waiting on something else when the sheriff was killed. I was glad to read the epilogue but felt like it should have told us more.
Overall, this was a good book, and I am looking forward to reading more from Ashlei Morelli

The novella is well written with an opening that draws you in quickly. Eden leaves her beloved childhood home at a young age after witnessing a tragic event, only to return when her father becomes ill so she can take care of him. What transpires from her first steps into her old home is a game of cat and mouse, truths revealed, and forgiveness. A quick read that is easily devoured within a few hours. It was a pleasure to read this ARC.
Thank you, Ashlei Morelli, for the ARC of your book. I enjoyed this story from the very beginning. It was a very fast read, and I always love short chapters. I think it would have been great to have some more of the back story between two main characters. Lucian sounds like an MMC , and I need to hear more about his life.
the book was a good read I enjoyed the story line and couldn't put it down. that being said I really wanted more backstory on the characters and their relationship prior to current events!
ABR read : It was a great read loved the plot line. You think you know what happened but then there would be a twist. It’s a very engaging book and makes you think twice about who you may know or think you know . Wish it was a little longer but maybe they’ll be book 2 🤞
Whispers in the Dark is everything I crave in a psychological thriller—dark, tense, and impossible to put down. From the very first line, I was pulled into Eden’s fragile but fierce world, where every page drips with atmosphere and unease. The writing is haunting yet beautiful, the kind that lingers long after you stop reading.
