This Christmas, the best wishes aren't found on a list.

The Trouble with Wishes by Julie Daines
Catherine Haywood is desperate to claim the affection of her long-time friend Frederick Milton, but Frederick only seems interested in courting the new young lady in town. Catherine makes a series of wishes, thinking that is the safer route rather than openly putting her heart on the line. But as each wish is fulfilled, she realizes getting what she wished for is not the same as getting what she wants.

We Wish You a Miserable Christmas by Samantha Hastings
Two secret pen fellows meet only to learn that they already know one another in this Christmas comedy of errors! Pranks and Wishes by Rachel Kelley Stones

I loved this anthology! It came at the perfect time when I was worried I was hitting a book slump, and it pulled me right out of it!

The Trouble with Wishes: I gave this one 4 stars. The friendship between the two main characters was so heartwarming, and I loved the way the wishes were introduced. The mutual pining added just the right amount of tension and sweetness. It was a fun and heartwarming read!

We Wish You a Miserable Christmas: This one absolutely blew me away, earning a 5 star rating. It gave off You’ve Got Mail vibes, with two characters writing to each other anonymously and falling for each other without realizing they already know one another. Watching their relationship evolve through their letters and seeing their friendship grow outside of the messages was so satisfying. The moment they finally revealed their identities was perfect ... I honestly would’ve rated this higher if I could!

Pranks and Wishes: This was the sweetest friends to more romance, and I gave it 4.5 stars. I loved the unique twist where they pranked each other and how she used pranks to keep him from meeting her grandfather. She thought he was interested in courting her sister, but in reality, he wanted to court her. When tragedy strikes, even he starts getting cold feet. The mix of lighthearted pranks and deeper emotional moments was so well done.

I received a complimentary copy, and this review reflects my honest opinion.

This set of three delightful holiday novellas purely warmed my heart. Catherine makes wishes, meets a new friend, and pines away for her childhood friend, turned crush, Frederick, in this sweet friends-to-more romance that’s full of heartwarming moments and laughs. Frank and Margaret have the most delicious banter in a secret letter, hidden identity, and forced proximity situation set during the Christmas season. Thomas and Elizabeth love to prank one another and an antic gone wrong turns their friendship into something more.

Each story is a beautiful offering no matter the time of year, but especially during the winter days. Wonderful characters, charming writing, and dazzling connections.

Another wonderful Timeless Regency Collection! And it's set around Christmastime! Although you could easily read these novellas any time of the year and be very happy and satisfied!!! I love that I always know that I can read these books and share them with anyone, knowing that they are clean reads!

~The Trouble with Wishes by Julie Daines~ 5* ~
I loved Catherine and Frederick's story! Catherine has been in love with him since they were little but when he returns to town and starts spending a lot of time with a new young lady in town, and the town starts spreading word about Frederick proposing to someone soon, Catherine has no other option except to step up and make her feelings known! She spends time making wishes and has some humorous situations that she finds herself in. I loved it all! And Frederick is a perfect gentleman that will make your heart very happy in how he approaches Catherine!

~We Wish You a Miserable Christmas by Samantha Hastings~ 5* ~
I loved the pen pan letters going back and forth between Lady Authoress and Mr. Penfellow! You're going to love them all too! And then we have Miserable Margaret and Mr. Frank Warner's story happening on the side. They keep getting set up with each other in their house party in London. As they spend more time together they come to realize that their initial impressions of the other was not accurate. As they keep seeing each other in different circumstances they come to realize they are falling in love. And it is super sweet! I laughed out loud, and I loved watching them develop their friendship and a greater understanding of each other. If you love mistaken perceptions and forced proximity, you'll love these two characters!!!

~Pranks and Wishes by Rachel Kelley Stones~ 5* ~
Poor Thomas! He just wants to have some time with Elizabeth to ask her a question. But she's not sure what his plan is and has several ideas and is afraid to talk with him in case it's not a question that she would like. After a prank goes sideways, Elizabeth finds herself falling more in love with him and hoping that those feelings are reciprocated. I loved this one a lot! I loved all three of these novellas but I loved the premise of this one and the misunderstandings that popped up! Watch out for those pranks, they can be dangerous...or make sure two hearts finally align!

Content: All novellas are sweet and clean. They all have a happily ever after that will leave you grinning!

I received a copy from the publisher. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

Here is another amazing Timeless Regency Collection for Christmas.

A Season of Wishes made a great pick to kick off this packed December. It melted away my stress. Each novella is charming right from the start to the end. The characters' plans or schemes go off track in every tale. Still, they wrap up happy, making wishes come true, but taking the long way to get there.

The Trouble with Wishes by Julie Daines
Catherine and Frederick grew up as best friends. He comes home from Cambridge to help run the family estate. Catherine notices that Frederick seems to be interested in another young lady, which is not in her plans. She keeps wishing in secret and hides her love from him. He loves her too, but stays quiet, which causes many twists, keeping it fun. This is a sweet friends-to-lovers read.

We Wish You a Miserable Christmas by Samantha Hastings
Frank and Margaret shine as characters. They start by swapping letters under pen names. Their sharp banter cracked me up. I couldn't stop laughing at the awkward moments as they're forced together as guests at her sister's home. They eventually figure out they already know each other, and thankfully, both respond well. This acquaintances-to-lovers tale warms the heart. Pure hilarious fun.

-Pranks and Wishes by Rachel Kelley Stones
Elizabeth and Thomas share a great story in dual views. They are longtime best friends and loved pranking each other through the years. One of Elizabeth's pranks goes wrong and seriously injures Thomas, and this changes their friendship and makes them rethink their true wants and wishes. The friends-to-lovers trope shines here. It's one of my favorites. The warm and inspiring tale was a bit more somber at times, but it sparks some joy in the end.

Each story is entertaining and is a fast read. It was nice that each novella was very unique, but each stands alone and is linked by a shared theme. These are perfect stories to get your mind and heart ready for the Christmas season. There’s something for everyone and the tropes you love. What a great way to bring the spirit of Christmas into your life.

"The Trouble with Wishes" by Julie Daines features childhood friends turned lovers, a Christmas ball, and wishes that don't quite go as planned. (Childhood friends/ neighbors/ Friends to more/ Small town friends to lovers/ a Christmas ball) Friends to more is my favorite trope. 👫

"We Wish You a Miserable Christmas" by Samantha Hastings offers an engaging mail-themed romance between a poet and an authoress, with a shy, romantic hero.
(You’ve got mail style romance/ pen pals/ Traumatic past/ Opposites attract/ forced proximity) I loved the letter writing! 💌

"Pranks and Wishes" by Rachel Kelley Stones tells the fun story of childhood friends caught in pranks, injuries, and a love triangle, as a girl tries to keep her love interest from courting her sister. (Childhood friends/ neighbors / Pranks / Injuries/
Love triangle) Oh my gosh, I felt so bad for them! 🤕

I received a complimentary copy of this book and read it with pleasure. I was under no obligation to leave a positive review.

It's time for Christmas romances! This is a wonderful collection of three sweet romances that take place over Christmas holidays.

The Trouble with Wishes by Julie Daines: Catherine Haywood has been quietly pining for her friend Frederick Milton, but instead of expressing her feelings, she resorts to making a series of wishes. The trouble is, Catherine’s wishes are fulfilled in frustratingly literal ways, and she has to learn that getting what you wish for is a poor substitute for claiming what you truly want. I've missed stories by Julie Daines and was thrilled to see she was included in this collection.

We Wish You a Miserable Christmas by Samantha Hastings: This is a fun enemies-to-lovers romance. Margaret (dubbed "Miserable Margaret") and Frank Warner have been secret pen pals but don't know each other's real identity. The forced proximity of a Christmas house party creates a delightful situation for them to spend time together. I loved watching Margaret and Frank allow their true, less miserable selves to shine through, and the witty banter between Margaret and Frank is the best.

Pranks and Wishes by Rachel Kelley Stones: Elizabeth Quincy is determined to stop Thomas Westin, her childhood best friend, from proposing to her younger sister. Her method involves a prank, with unforeseen consequences. Thomas, however, knows exactly who he wants to marry, and it's Lizzy. This story is perfect for those who enjoy the payoff of a long-simmering romance finally boiling over.

This collection is perfect for fans of cozy reads, slow-burn romance, and happily-ever-afters. I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions in this review are my own.

A Season of Wishes

The Trouble with Wishes by Julie Daines (5 stars)

Ms. Daines perfectly captures the voice of youth! Sometimes when we read romance, the heroine is young, but thinks and acts like an older person. This heroine’s thoughts and actions belied her youth—it was refreshing!

Sweet friends to lovers trope and a delight to read!

We Wish You a Miserable Christmas by Samantha Hastings (5 stars)

I loved this story of grumpy and sunshine! No one essentially changes his or her nature, they love each other as they are. That doesn’t mean that character arcs aren’t happening, both characters experience growth through the insights of the other.

This story is based on two minor characters in another story of Ms. Hastings, “By Any Other Name”…I’m definitely going to find more by this author!

Pranks and Wishes by Rachel Kelley Stones (4.5 stars)

A sweet story of love that grows between best friends. A prank goes awry and Thomas is seriously injured while Lizzy feels guilty about her prank.

I felt that, although Lizzie seemed to feel guilty about the prank, Thomas never once blamed her for his pain and possible permanent disability. Even when he goes through a bout of depression and anger, he never blames her even in his thoughts. No human is that perfect.

Anyway, other than that caveat, it’s a heart-warming story of family, friends, and love that stands the test of time no matter what.

The Trouble with Wishes by Julie Daines
This is such a cute story Catherine was devastated that she was losing her best friend, Frederick. She also was determined to make her wishes, even though their wishing well was filled in. She definitely let her imagination run wild.

We Wish You a Miserable Christmas by Samantha Hastings
Margaret Smalls is an authoress of novel, nobody knew that it was her story. When she received a letter from a fellow author, delivered through her publisher, they began corresponding. The story was intriguing as these two penpals came to know each other and find out they’re true identities. A charming story.

Pranks and Wishes by Rachel Kelley Stones
Another wonderful story to finish out this anthology. Elizabeth and Thomas had grown up his friends and when he came back after beingg away, they picked up right where they left off. They had always enjoyed pranking and teasing each other. But when one prank turned disastrous, could they forgive each other. I love the characters. I loved the banter and camaraderie. A charming holiday read for sure.

Such a lovely collection of Christmas novellas!

The Trouble with Wishes by Julie Daines
Excellent novella for all fans of the friends to lovers trope! It is my favorite trope, and Daines wrote it beautifully in this novella. Catherine and Frederick are adorably dense when it comes to each other, and I loved that everyone but the two of them could see things clearly! My other highlight with this novella was the friendship between Catherine and Nora. I love a well written female friendship; friendships are so important and good friendships make for good stories!

We Wish You a Miserable Christmas by Samantha Hastings
Hastings’ writing feels to me like a comfortable, cozy blanket - her writing pulls me in instantly every time, and I always enjoy every page! I loved revisiting characters from one of her earlier works (By Any Other Name) and getting to know ‘Miserable Margaret’ as one of the main characters. I love how this story continues to build on the theme of people being multifaceted and having more goodness than is visible on first impression. And the witty chapter titles were the icing on the cake for this novella!

Pranks and Wishes by Rachel Kelley Stones
Such a perfectly cozy Christmas read! The friends to lovers trope is my absolute favorite, and Stones executed it perfectly with Lizzy and Thomas. The concerns about losing the friendship, about the other having romantic interest in someone else, and the absolute aversion to just discussing things openly were perfectly done and felt so realistic! The way both characters were absolutely reasonable about everything but each other just made me giggle too!

Thank you to the authors for the ARC copy; all opinions are my own.

The Trouble With Wishes by Julie Daines. Catherine is making wishes for new gowns and simple things. However as she makes wishes she realizes the are getting granted, but not how she would like them to be. There is always something not quite right. Her mother gets sick and she realizes all the frivolous things she wished for mean nothing, family is what matters. Her friend Fredrick is a good friend and with this experience she has he is along for the ride and they mean more to each other than mere friends.
We Wish You a Miserable Christmas by Samantha Hastings. Margaret and Frank both write under pen names. They have been writing each other for a time and both realize they care for the other. However they don't know who the other is. As Margaret goes along with her sister to a friends home she encounters Frank whom she does not think much of. As they get to know each other better their feelings change and then they realize who each other are. All is well that ends well.
Pranks and Wishes by Kelly Stones. This is your typical story of two friends liking each other, but afraid the other doesn't feel the same way so neither of them share their feelings. Elizabeth fears her best friend Thomas may be asking to court her sister so she makes a mud pit he has to cross through to get to her home. However Thomas tries to jump and misses. He is injured and ends up at her home for a time recovering. Both send little messages to each other hoping for the other to speak up. After hardships and misunderstandings they finally make their way to each other. It is a happy ending!
I was given an ARC of this book and left this review voluntarily. All opinions expressed are my own.

The first and last story seemed a little too similar (friends since childhood, boy has been away for a few years, comes back, but girl seems to think he's in love with someone else, girl fights to get him back, misunderstandings are reconciled and they get together). I skipped the second story; it didn't grab my attention after a few chapters.

3.5 rounded up

This was a cute little holiday romantic treat. I loved the second novella by Samantha Hastings with the enemies to lovers trope combined with close proximity, but with the twist of not knowing the others' identity, sort of like the movie You've Got Mail. The first and third stories were fine, but felt more YA-ish, especially when the main conflict could have been solved with a simple conversation. But they were still enjoyable and brought the Christmas spirit into my holiday season.

I’ve been very impressed by the Timeless Regency Collection books I’ve read so far- they’ve surpassed my expectations! Each story is page turning, well fleshed out (despite being in short story form), and satisfying. This one was no exception. The books were loosely connected to Christmas time and also had the theme of wishes woven throughout, which proved for a fun and interesting read.

The Trouble with Wishes

Catherine and Fredrick have been friends forever, but when Fredrick finally comes back from school, things just seem different. Catherine yearns to be with Fredrick, but the rather suffocating Miss Upton seems to have captured his affection. Catherine finds herself crouching with coins in her palm, sinking her wishes into the drainage ditch near her home. But when her wishes start coming true- sort of- she starts wondering what she needs to do to get what she really wants. Will she find the guts to turn her wants into more than just wishes? I loved the concept of wishing for something, getting what you wished for, and then realizing you should’ve been more specific 😂 The wishes theme in this story was humorous and heart-warming, and it endeared me to Catherine immensely. Expect a sweet friends to more trope and a much anticipated Christmas ball.

We Wish You Miserable Christmas

Samantha Hastings’ short story was incredible! This was my first story from her, and I was impressed. Margaret (aka Regret) deserves all the rather miserable nicknames bestowed upon her. But considering the trauma she’s gone through in her life, she’s earned the right to be a little cranky. Frank is a big guy- think Wreck it Ralph- who is also a poet and scholar. But for such a big person, he has trouble taking up space. Bashful and awkward, he’s loathe to communicate with any woman, let alone one as pretty and witty as Margaret. But in his secret correspondence with a Lady Authoress, he feels like he can finally be himself. Will Margaret prove too much for him to handle, or will the Lady Authoress be impressed with him beyond the written page? I loved that this wasn’t reverse grumpy sunshine, but rather grumpy/awkward! There were tons of witty one liners and loveable side charters I liked as well. Five stars!

Pranks and Wishes

I am a HUGE Rachel Kelley Stones fan, and this one featured the romance perfection and gritty depth I’ve come to expect from her books. We’ve got a classic friends to lovers set up, but with pranks. When Elizabeth’s prank goes awry, Thomas’ plan to speak to her Grandfather about what Lizzy assumes is a marriage proposal goes out the window. Lizzy thinks Thomas is in love with her sister, and Thomas is worried that his charismatic cousin will win Lizzy’s heart before he has a chance. Add in a terrible injury, Christmas plans, and an austere Grandfather, and you’re a chess piece away from checkmate. Will Lizzy and Thomas be able to find out the truth about how the other feels before it’s too late? I loved Lizzy’s Grandfather and the way that wishes played a different but endearing role in this story. Lizzy’s character was well written and very mature- even with all of the fun pranks! The end scene with Grandfather as well as the final scene of the book were my favorite.

I highly recommend picking this one up!

The Trouble with Wishes , Julie Daines Catherine Haywood
Lots of miscommunications and not completing sentences so the angst continues.
Catherine makes wishes at ditch on her land after the well was filled in. She wants a new dress and her childhood friends affection. Frederick is back from Cambridge and has been escorting a Ms. Upton around town. Catherine believes his affection lies there. She makes friends with a girl living with a local busybody. Catherine's aunt shows up with a new dress in a color that is repulsive. Catherine's other wishes are also answered in some way, but it doesn't bring her closer to her ultimate desire of Frederick's affection. Turns out Frederick liked her the whole time, but she did things that made him question her affection (like force him to dance with her friend at a dance lesson). She finally puts her hand over her heart in church as a cue to Frederick, which gives him the courage to make his feelings known. Ms. Upton is the niece of the cousin of Frederick's father. They had hopes for her and Frederick, but he wanted Catherine. They get engaged at the Christmas ball.

We Wish you a Miserable Christmas, Samantha Hastings
I am a sucker for the anonymous letter trope. Margaret comes off pretty abrasive at times, but you have sympathy for her as she was attacked by the nephew of the woman she was a companion too. It is kind of an emasculating story for Frank. Basically, Margaret knows she will be in charge in their marriage. It doesn't resolve the story line about his family dilemma, but it sounds like this is a novella to a greater series.

Margaret has been corresponding with a poet who shares the same editor. They have opened up to each other. His last letter invites her to a symposium in London he will be presenting poetry at. In the letter he asks to court her. She agrees to stay with her sister in London. She grew up poor, but her sister had been given up for adoption to a wealthy cousin. As the sister grew up in wealthy circles she was able to marry a man with means, Peter. Peter has a friend named Frank, who is a poet. He is super shy around woman, but recently has corresponding with an author and asked to court her. Frank decides to stay with Peter in the lead up to the symposium. Frank and Margaret have met over the years, but Margaret doesn't have a lot of patience for him and his not speaking to her ways. Peter and Jenny convince her to give Frank a chance. They also conspire to have them spend time together. Margaret essentially decides she can be the bold one and she advances the relationship. Just as Frank is thinking that Margaret should be the one he courts they are dancing and she says if she were weather she will be a hailstorm which is something she had said in her letter. Frank realizes during the dance his mystery woman and Margaret are one in the same. The next day at the symposium he is very nervous to speak, but Margaret helps him along once she enters the room by heckling him. It goes great and he closes with a poem he wrote the night before about Miserable Margaret. Her prefers miserable Margaret to any other woman with bright smiles, etc. He proposes to her and she accepts.
"Poetry is like medicine, good for the soul, but best enjoyed in small doses." p. 197

Pranks and Wishes, Rachel Kelley Stones

It was fine. Story moved along at a good pace. I thought Thomas' reactions were bizarre at times, and it was not clear why Lizzy only had one opportunity per day to see Thomas in his room. Her mother was a sad figure that appeared to have had a mental break of sorts. However, it is eventually revealed that she lost her mother (old enough for Lizzie to have some memories) and husband (5 years) within a short period of time. Then she lost her son when Lizzy was 17. So that is pretty rough. Their grandfather taking care of them basically saved the day. He parents by adage which is a nice touch in the book.

Lizzy has pined after her childhood friend for 4 years. Turns out Thomas is really into her too. However, her grandfather has discouraged any courting. Now she is 19 and Thomas has returned from school on a mission to get permission to court her. The problem is his attempts to be nice have convinced Lizzy that he wants to court her sister, Delilah. They had always played pranks on each other, so she creates a mud pit on the side of the bridge by their house to prevent him from meeting with her grandfather. He jumps over the mud pit, but then slips and breaks his leg, a rib, and gets a concussion. She is mortified and drags him on her sled to their home with the help of his cousin who shows up. He has to recuperate there, so she can see him, but the cousin is also into Lizzy and has been asking to spend time with her. This infuriates Thomas. Eventually, Lizzy brings a chess board into his room to play chess and they start getting somewhere. He calls her terms of endearment and she reassesses her view that he likes Delilah. However, he soon gets bad news from the doctor who advises the bone did not set right and he may have to rebreak the bone at a later time or deal with the pain and have a limp the rest of his life. He is horrified and thinks it affects how he should approach getting a wife. He is able to go home much to Lizzy's dismay. He begins to withdraw. In the meantime, his cousin shows up to ask if Lizzy will agree to a courtship, but she makes clear early in the conversation she is not interested by insisting they do not call each other by their Christian names. He gets the hint, and later tells Thomas that he won. Thomas is still torn up about his leg, and it moody. One day he almost lights his room on fire by throwing a pillow in frustration. His cousin shows up to help Thomas back into his bed as Thomas was able to put the fire out, but didn't have the energy to do anything but lay on the floor. The next day Lizzy arrives for Christmas dinner. Over a game of chess Thomas asks her why she made the mud pit and she confesses everything. He responds rather oddly. Ranging for anger to desire to a pity party for himself. He lets her leave without really responding. That night his cousin convinces him to go after what he wants. They arrive at her house in a sled, and Thomas gets his cousin to draw their initials in the snow to match the initials they put on the bridge four years ago. She comes out and he confesses his feelings and concerns. They agree they will court and start making out with his cousin several feet away. The cousin asks to go home and the story ends with Thomas making him wait longer.

Three wonderful stories that will pull you in.
This collection is one you will really enjoy. The first story is ‘The Trouble with Wishes’ Julie Daines, takes you to a small village where Catherine is desperate to attract Frederick by making wishes instead of expressing herself. But life is not always what one wishes for. Can she step up to take some control? The second, ‘We Wish You a Miserable Christmas’ by Samantha Hastings will introduce you Miserable Margaret and Frank who can see the value and strengths in Margaret. But can he get her to see her own worth and the value he sees? ‘Pranks and Wishes’ by Rachel Kelley Stones finishes the trio. Here you meet Elizabeth who in sets up a prank to keep her friend, Thomas, from courting her sister. But when her prank go horribly wrong, will there be any way to save their relationship and build on it? I received an early copy and this is my honest review.

This collection will be a great choice for readers this Christmas season! Each of the novellas is long enough and well-developed enough to make it a satisfying read, while at the same time being short enough to easily fit into the busy Christmas season. All three stories are sweet romance with believable characters. There's humor and great dialogue and, of course, the magic of Christmas!

These fun, festive stories will help set the mood for the Holiday season. These stories are entertaining, quick, and relaxing reads. The characters and plots in these stories are memorable and interesting. I really enjoyed these wholesome, clean regency romances. My favorite story was Pranks and Wishes. It was hilarious and several twists.

Please note I received a free ebook to review, however, this is my honest opinion.

Novella 1-

The minute I finished this first novella I knew that this collection was going to be one of my favorites. And I was so right, so be prepared for complete fangirling.

Catherine. THIS WOMAN! She was such a fun FMC. I loved the progression of wishes and how she realized that to get the results she wanted she needed to face them head on. Her friendship with Nora was so sweet and the ROMANCE, Catherine was cracking me up because same girl, same.

Frederick. This man is literally perfect for Catherine. This man radiates ~yearning~ *que the swooning* and is trying EVERYTHING to confess his love. Pesky women and a headstrong lead make this difficult though.
Reading him was like watching a man go through wipe-out with mud-balls being thrown at him (by the FMC), and he STILL SUCEEDS, looking
FI-INE *swoons*.

These two were EVERYTHING and I truly did not want this story to end! I definitely need to check out more books by this author because I was completely invested the entire time.

CW: loss of a sibling

Novella 2-

Ready for more fangirling? Yes, yes we are. I read By Any Other Name by Samantha Hastings last year and ADORED IT, so when I realized this book was going to be about Miserable Margret and Frank I SCREAMED into my pillow, I was so excited. The Christmas vibes? Amazing. The Black Cat FMC and PAINFULLY shy MMC gave me LIFE. If you want cutting banter, romantic poetry, and mistaken identity, THIS IS THE BOOK FOR YOU. Like seriously, READ IT.

Margret. It was so fun to see Margret from her POV. I loved learning her backstory, even though it was so sad, and why she is so "miserable" as everyone calls her. This story, while a romance, was also a healing journey for Margret, learning to forgive and let those she loves in. And the way she helped Frank open up? I CAN'T.

Frank. This man was a JERK in BAON, who then ended up being such an amazing friend for Peter (MMC in that book). So, again, reading from his POV was AMAZING. Self conscious and painfully shy around women, Frank was SUCH a fun character. His internal monologue was poetic (fitting, because he's a poet) and the way he was drawn to Margret was ADORABLE.

The letters between these two were SO FREAKING CUTE and I loved how it added the pen-pal mistaken identity aspect. The amount of swoony and iconic lines these two have is insane. And the chapter titles were PERFECTION. Seriously this novella was
EVERYTHING.

CW: vague description of attempted SA in past-- FMC uses self defense, family tension, sadness over death of a relative, estranged family

Novella 3-

I'M NOT READY TO BE DONE. That was my exact thought when I finished this book.
Seriously these three novellas were EVERYTHING, and I need to binge every book by this author because this story was *chefs kiss* PERFECTION.

Elizabeth. Oh Lizzy can I PLEASE have your brain. After a genius prank goes awry, Lizzy's best friend, and the man she's been pining over, is bedridden in her house with a broken leg, rib, and bruised head (and lets be honest, ego). Guilt over his pain is FOR REAL, but Lizzy takes this as a chance to spend more time, and hopefully convince him that she is the girl for him... not her sister.

Thomas. 1- this is my favorite name, second to Philip, so I will adore any and every character with this name. 2- THOMAS FREAKING WESTIN HAS A PhD IN YEARNOLOGY. This man has had it BAD for his best friend for YEARS. And when he's finally going to ask for permission to court her? Broken bones and a bruised ego, but hey, he's bedridden in her house *smirk emoji*. If only his cousin would stop making moves on his woman...

THESE TWO AHHHHHH. Oh my gosh the mutual pining was perfection. The misunderstanding was HILARIOUS i actually love the miscommunication trope WHEN ITS DONE WELL, and this book DID SO GOOD, because it is so realistic). The side characters were all so interesting. And the ending, I was SCREAMING. "I want to go caroling" had me THROWING MY KINDLE ACROSS MY ROOM. Anyways, a completely normal reaction to a book, I'm aware.

CW: death of sibling, depression (side character), injuries, fire

Just in time for Christmas, a delightful anthology featuring three favorite authors! I loved all three stories in A Season of Wishes! Enemies to lovers, friends to more, unrequited love, & more play a role in these engaging novellas filled with all the lovely Christmas traditions.

The Trouble With Wishes by Julie Daines is a delightful childhood friends to more romance with a bit of unrequited love. Catherine Haywood spends an inordinate amount of time & gold coins making wishes. She’s in love with her best friend Frederick Milton, but is convinced he’ll propose to another. Will Catherine gain the courage to stop wishing & tell him how she feels? I thoroughly enjoyed Catherine’s & Frederick’s heartfelt romance. Loved the charming humor & even Catherine’s mold colored dress!

We Wish You A Miserable Christmas by Samantha Hastings combines secret pen pals, enemies to lovers, & opposites attract in this engaging story. Miserable Margaret’s a secret authoress who’s been corresponding with renowned poet Mr. Penfellow. When they both discover they’ll be in London, Margaret agrees to attend one of his readings & meet for the first time. Margaret’s attending her sister’s Christmas House Party, but also attending is Mr. Frank Warner who barely speaks a word & seems frightened of Margaret. As they spend time together, Frank opens up & they find they have a growing attraction. But, will Margaret choose the poet she only knows through letters or the one she’s falling in love with? I thoroughly enjoyed the hidden identities, witty banter, & seeing these two opposites find love.

Pranks & Wishes by Rachel Kelley Stones is an enjoyable friends to more, unrequited love story with a prank gone wrong. Elizabeth Quincy & Thomas Westin have played pranks on each other since childhood. But, when Elizabeth suspects Thomas is going to ask to marry her sister instead of her, she plays a prank that goes horribly wrong. This story kept me on the edge of my seat! There were so many interruptions just when the truth was going to come out. I loved the caroling, grand gesture, & the rival cousin.

Highly recommend! I received an advanced copy from the publisher with no expectation of a positive review. All opinions are completely my own & provided voluntarily.

This time of year, leading up to the New Year, is my absolute favorite time to read novellas. Life is crazy with fall festivities, birthdays, and holidays that I’m drawn to books that will give a quick fix of happily ever after. When I heard about the Timeless Regency Collection’s newest anthology, A Season of Wishes, I knew I had to read it. My hopes for this anthology were met with each sweet story. I enjoyed every minute of each novella.

We Wish You a Miserable Christmas by Samantha Hastings
-You’ve Got Mail vibes
-matchmaking sister and brother-in-law

-playing Blind Man’s Bluff
-dual POV

Margaret and Frank were such unique characters. I loved how their relationship developed and grew on paper and in real life. It was so well done. I was rooting for them both from the beginning. The ending was so delightful.

Pranks and Wishes by Rachel Kelley Stones

-she takes care of him
-childhood friends to more

📚✨ BOOK REVIEW ✨📚
Title: A Season of Wishes
Series: Timeless Regency Collection Book #21
Authors: Julie Daines, Samantha Hastings, Rachel Kelley Stones
Genre: Regency Romance, Clean Romance, Holiday
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

📝 My Thoughts:
This holiday collection was pure joy to read! Three novellas, three different takes on love, wishes, and second chances. All perfectly suited for curling up with a blanket and cocoa. Each story stands alone and delivers a satisfying blend of humor, heart, and seasonal warmth. 🎄

✨ The Trouble with Wishes - A sweet friends-to-lovers tale about realizing that what you wish for isn’t always what you truly want. Uplifting and heartfelt.
🎀 We Wish You a Miserable Christmas - Funny, clever, and full of witty banter! The secret pen-pal twist had me smiling the whole way through.
💫 Pranks and Wishes - Tender and emotional, with a beautiful reminder that love often begins with trust and friendship.

💌 Who would I recommend this to?
Anyone craving short, wholesome, holiday romances filled with warmth and self-discovery. Perfect for fans of clean historical reads and cozy Christmas magic.

🔖 Favorite Quote:
“Our own actions determine our path. We reap the results of what we sow. Wishes are simply arbitrary hopes founded in desire but lacking in reality. They can distract you from achieving your goals.”

📌 Final Verdict:
A heartwarming trio of Regency holiday tales that leave you smiling and hopeful. Go make some wishes and maybe read this one twice! 🌟

I loved every story in this anthology. It would be hard to even pick a favorite. In The Trouble of Wishes by Julie Daines, I loved it that the main character's name was Catherine, just the way I spell it. Her sweet way of trying to show Frederick that she cared for him was truly adorable. I also loved the friendship she is able to strike up with a young woman who is lonely and needs female companionship. We Wish You a Miserable Christmas made me think of The Taming of the Shrew. "Miserable Margaret" is quite the character. I enjoyed the letters between her and Mr. Penfellow. She is someone who does not mince words, and you pretty much know where you stand with her. I had not realized at first that these were characters from By Any Other Name, also by Samantha Hastings. It was so fun when I realized that and made those connections. Pranks and Wishes by Rachel Kelley Stones begins with a pranking scene and then moves to four years later, again to a pranking scene. Unfortunately this prank goes very much awry. I liked seeing the different perspectives of Thomas and Lizzy. It was good to see inside their heads and know what they were thinking, planning, and hoping for. I would love to see a story about Mr. Roland sometime if the author feels he needs his own story. I read through these stories pretty quickly since I enjoyed them all so much. This has definitely been one of my favorite Regency anthologies.

The Trouble with Wishes by Julie Daines
This was a fun read! Catherine was sweet, if a bit young feeling. She was trying so hard to protect herself from disappointment and change. It was sweet to see her develop a friendship with Nora and how she gained perspective and courage. Catherine learned courage over the story and was able to connect with her family over the story. She learned about herself and her relationships. Frederick was so sweet! I loved his sense of fun and how genuine he was.
We Wish You a Miserable Christmas by Samantha Hastings
A fun twist on the opposites attract romance, this story was a fun holiday story. I felt for Margaret and her struggles internally and with her relationships. I loved how she and Frank helped each other grow. Frank grew so much over the story. I also had so much fun with Margaret’s family, I love a meddling family!
There is mention of past attempted SA.
Pranks and Wishes by Rachel Kelley
This was really sweet! I loved Lizzy and Thomas’s friendship and how natural it felt. They had to go through some difficulties and misunderstandings. I was rooting for them! I enjoyed the side characters and their relationships. They both had families that they loved and cared for, even when they did not like them!

All of these stories were fun and got me in the holiday mood! It was a lovely collection of sweet historical romances! All of the stories only feature kisses.

Three well written stories of the magic of the Christmas season and love.

The Trouble with Wishes was a fun story of a heroine wishing for special favors but finding that the wishes although “fulfilled “ were not exactly as expected.
The hero is part of her childhood and her wishes… but what happens next you will have to find out.

We Wish You a Miserable Christmas was a mixture of sweet, funny and a bit grumpy.
The hero is a shy, kind and gentle man who doesn’t feel as he belongs in society or elsewhere.
The heroine is a strong willed woman which sees the world through eyes that have the weight of the world.
But they are soon back together and discover the better sides to each other and themselves….but what happens next you will have to find out.

Pranks and Wishes is of two childhood friends who are finding themselves having feelings that are changing. They play pranks on each other but when one goes different than planned does it help them find how the other feels or are the feelings for another? What happens next you have to find out.

I enjoyed each story very much. They had humor and love. The plot’s twist is enough to keep it entertaining.

I discovered a new author while enjoying two of my favorite ones.

I received an ARC copy of the book and all opinions are my own.

✨Audio Review✨

A Season Of Wishes
Timeless Regency Collection

⛲️The Trouble With Wishes by @julie_daines

Wishing and wishing doesn’t always give the desired results. Catherine has found many of her wishes to come true, but is she wishing for the right things. Adored sweet Frederick and the events with the dress and him happening upon her wishing often. Sigh. Such a perfect story.

🎄We Wish You A Miserable Christmas by @samanthahastingsauthor

Swoon. Frank was so sweet. The way his ears pinked often with his painful shyness. His warm temperature. His Height. The poems. Secret letter writing. Ah. Margaret and her fiery nature was just the thing he needed and I love when she realized it.

❤️‍🩹 Pranks And Wishes by @rachelkelleystones_author

Oh man. Doesn’t everyone like a good prank, but hate it when it goes too far. Sadly one does in this story, but it brought these two together in the best and most healing way. Thomas’s love for Elizabeth (Lizzy) knows almost no bounds, but when he feels broken he decides to let her go and boy does it make him grumpy. Their silly pranks and friendship from childhood was my favorite.

Adored this Audio! Grace did an Absolutely Perfect job! Every story was uniquely it’s own and every story got me into the Christmas Spirit. Loved every minute of this listen! Truly!

I loved this collection of Christmas novellas! I haven't read many romance anthologies, but I think it's time to change that. I'm realizing I really like a shorter, fast paced romance.

The Trouble with Wishes is well written and funny best friends to lovers story. I loved both main characters (and one of the side characters reminded me of Miss Bates in all the best ways). Catherine is in love with her childhood best friend, but doesn't know that he loves her back. The mix up feels very believable, which isn't always the case in romance novels.

We Wish you a Miserable Christmas took a little while to hook me, but I ended up loving the unique main characters and different family background. It was fun to read about a fellow pessimist.

Pranks and Wishes is also a friends to lovers story, but with a dual POV. The best friends in this novel love to prank each other, until one prank goes too far and has life changing consequences.
Dual POV's aren't my favorite, but I did get into it as the story progressed.

The only thing I regret is reading this before the Christmas season! Save this for Thanksgiving weekend and read with a cup of hot chocolate.

I received an ARC copy, all opinions are my own.
