I actually ended up enjoying this a lot more than I thought I would..
I love any book that has a dark secret society, one with power and rituals, one where you obey or you die, so you know I loved this!
Please check the trigger warnings, this is a dark romance and contains some heavy themes!!!
Laurel is just trying to survive college, balancing her dad and a job delivering pizzas, until one night she sees something she shouldn't have.. Now she a prisoner of The Order and Carrson keeps her as his Bonded. She's thrown in a violent world and Carrson is at the center of it.. She isn't going down without a fight though, but the more time she spends with Carrson, the more she sees another side of him and feelings start to grow..
Laurel found herself in a dangerous situation, but she was strong and she fought for herself. I loved her inquisitive mind and how even do she hated the world she found herself in, she always tried to understand Carrson..
Carrson was cold and dark, he valued control and power, it's how he was raised, but his soft side, the one that came out slowly with Laurel, was so special. He was always honest, always tried to answer her questions the best he could and he was so protective. He deserved so much better, the things he had to endure were atrocious...
I loved Thomson and Sam actually really grew on me, I wasn't expecting that..
The Order was very cult-like, it was creepy honestly.. The amount of trauma they inflicted on their children left me speechless... I'm really curious what their end game is, I really hope we'll learn more about them in the next two books..
I really enjoyed Laurel's and Carrson's progression. You could see them falling in love little by little and that scene at the party was so good, but the scene towards the end was my favourite.. I love how they didn't want to care for each other, but couldn't stop their feelings. Him teaching her to fight, her being there for him, how they both became each other's person, it was simply amazing.. I need more of them!!
I'm going to be honest, I didn't think I was going to enjoy this book after I read one specific scene that I, personally, really hated at the beginning.. But, the rest of the book was so much better. That scene though, it isn't something I can really stomach, so I took away a star for it..
Also, I thought it was weird she didn't call her father..
It was a quick read, the pace of the story was fast.
That ending though, I needed book two like yesterday.. I can't wait to learn more about this world!

Yep! Total just devoured this book in 24 hours.🔥
The romance in this was everything! This was exactly how I like my dark romance—beautifully done character dynamics. A dark, twisted,"made man” male lead that is ruthless but also has a hidden golden retriever heart, especially with her! ♥️ and a realistic leading lady that has gone through awful trauma but will not show weakness and is willing to fight for her happiness!

Fast paced
Swooning romance
Lovable characters
High stakes
With it being such a short read, it did flow the story along with jumping weeks at a time throughout the story, so I did feel like I missed some development, but that is to be expected in a fast-paced, 300-page book. There could have also been a little more plot with the secret societ,y but we might get more of that in book 2 ♥️ This first book was definitely focused on building the romance of our characters, and I was here for every second of it :)

Even though the story starts off right away, it actually took me a few chapters to really get into this one. But once everything settled down, I was genuinely having a great time with it.
There’s something about dark academia and secret societies that immediately intrigues me and this book definitely piqued my curiosity.
I’ve been thinking about it all week since I read the blurb and I just had to know what it had in store for me.
This book wasn’t as dark as I expected, but I get that it could feel darker for some readers, so please check the trigger warnings before starting it‼️
To me, it felt like a dark romance you pick up when you want some edge but not too much heaviness.
Story kicks off when the fmc gets pulled into a secret society after being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Mmc is a very important figure in that secret society and he offers her a deal she can’t really refuse. From there everything changes for her and for him.
The secret society was very well explained and the fmc even compares it to The Handmaid’s Tale in some ways, which really fits.
I enjoyed learning about the rules, the depth and how rooted this society is.
Even though the book was short I think it did a good job setting this world up and I’m really curious to learn more in the second book.
The main couple, Laurel and Carrson, were fantastic. I loved them both individually and together.
Their dynamic was full of tension, push and pull, banter and they were so cute to read about 🥰
They are both tortured souls and powerful characters in their own way.
Carrson is shaped by a society that expects him to be ruthless and merciless and he definitely is, but throughout the book his softer side slowly shines through, not just for Laurel but for others he cares about too.
He’s not a typical morally grey character and I appreciated that his development feels gradual and believable, not an instant 180 just because Laurel came into his life.
As for Laurel, she is strong minded and never backs down.
She doesn’t expect anyone to fight her battles and I respected that a lot. Her heartbreaking past made me ache for her and her deep need for belonging after everything that happened to her is something I connected with.
Even though her bond with the girls in the society is complicated and wrong, I’m glad she found some sort of family with them, especially since they’re all trapped in this secret society against their will.
I also appreciated that she understands just how bad the situation is and that her love for Carrson doesn’t cloud her judgment.
As for side characters, there aren’t many but Samantha definitely stands out.
Though a side character, she felt just as important to me.
She’s the mama bear of the girls, caring and thoughtful, but also witty and fearless.
Really enjoyed every time we got to learn more about her and her interactions with Laurel were so funny and cute to me.
Also intrigued about Thomson, he has a lot of potential and I hope to see more of him in the next book.
My biggest issue with this book is how many questions it opened up without answering any of them.
I know it’s just the first book, but I expected at least a few answers. It bothered me a lot that we got nothing.
One thing I couldn’t stop thinking about while reading this book was the very first scene.
The book starts with Laurel delivering pizza to the sorority house where she witnesses something she definitely shouldn’t have and that ends up being the main reason why she is being immersed into this secret society.
I kept asking myself, who thinks it’s a good idea to get pizza delivered when they’re involved in something they’re trying so hard to keep hidden and are clearly busy dealing with it 😂
It just didn’t make sense to me. I know it’s not a huge deal, but it stayed on my mind the whole time.
Also, the ending felt rushed and honestly their plan for how to handle the situation at the end pissed me off so much.
I expected so much more and even the cliffhanger did nothing for me.
That said, there’s room for improvement in the next book and I’m very intrigued about where the story goes from here.
All these issues I mentioned definitely don’t take away from the fact that I still had a good time reading this.
Overall, I’ll definitely be reading the next book. As I said this book opened up a lot of questions and I can’t wait to see how everything unfolds.

Took that plunge and grabbed this, started it, and couldn’t put it down..
She was in the wrong place at the wrong time..she witnessed something she shouldn’t have and that lands her in the lap of a secret society.
This is the sort of story line I seek, I crave them like my next breath, and this one didn’t disappoint..
This society was more twisted than I’ve ever encountered before, sick, twisted, and was hard to wrap my brain around the concept but those pages went by in a flash of light.
I was hooked.
Bonding. This concept had my mind going haywire..like wtf is that all about!
A week without wifi has had me deep in my iPad reading without any distractions, I can’t even watch tv because yep apps on my tv need wifi.
After a cliffy I had prepared myself for being that it’s a series, I couldn’t prepare myself for how brutal it was..I’m unsure how she’s going to get out of this unscathed..

Laurel is trying to keep her head above water while attending college. With a heartbreaking history, she’s forced to take care of her alcoholic father while paying for everything on her own. To make ends meet, she works as a pizza delivery driver. While delivering pizza to a frat house, she stumbles upon something she never should have seen. Now she’s faced with being a prisoner to the leader of the frat house, Carrson. Little does she know, her life is about to become a lot more complicated.
Laurel is thrust into a secret society called The Order. They have complex rules, high expectations, and above all, loyalty. Neglect any of them, and there will be severe consequences. Laurel’s inquisitive nature and bit of feistiness had me liking her throughout the book. She’s able to observe, absorb, and learn her surroundings without losing her voice or holding back how she feels about certain situations.
Carrson’s character surprised me with how much I liked him. I wouldn’t say he’s very morally grey (I think I’ve read worse), but he’s definitely no saint and he’s not shy about admitting it. Throughout the book, you get glimpses into why he is the way he is.
I thought the story did well with the pacing of how they came together. Carrson is dominating in nature, dark and powerful. He doesn’t shy away from challenges and has no time for weakness. Laurel, on the other hand, is intelligent, observant, and empathetic. When they come together, they teach one another that showing weakness can still be a form of strength.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. The pacing was good, the side characters have me wanting to know their journeys, and I’m excited to see how all of this unravels. * Please check trigger warning ⚠️*

Laurel’s inquisitive nature and bit of feistiness had me liking her throughout the book. This one is for the girls who love toxic, dark academia, secret societies, and unwell men with too much power and too many feelings. If that’s not you… keep walking 😌
Our story follows Laurel who ends up entangled with an elite secret society and a powerful, complicated man who has no business wanting her, but absolutely does. Secrets, rituals, trauma, obsession, and power plays follow.
Here’s the thing, this book isn’t reinventing the “dark college secret society” wheel. We’ve got the classics: captive vibes, sharp banter, trauma history, brooding MMC, enemies-to-lovers heat, jealous girl rivalry, training scenes, power + tradition vs morality.
But yeah… I eat that mess up every. single. time. It scratches the itch.
The writing flowed really well. Scenes weren’t filler, the dialogue hit, and the tension between Laurel and Carrson was great. Their emotional shift did feel a little sudden at one point, but I still felt it. Carrson’s internal struggle between tradition and conscience was actually one of my favorite parts…I’m curious where that’ll go.
Also really liked the arc with Sam (our jealous girl). It wasn’t predictable and it made me like both girls more.
Heads up: tons of triggers. They are 18+ but a lot of what’s discussed happened before then, so just go in prepared.
The ending left me feeling a little “…really?” I don’t totally buy Laurel pulling that off solo. And yes, huge cliffhanger. Of course.
But I’m definitely grabbing book two. I need to see where this spiral leads.

📖 Bookish Thoughts
I was honestly surprised by how invested I got in this story. The beginning was a little slow and I wasn’t sure where it was going, but once it clicked, I could not put it down. And that ending… I need book two immediately 😰😰

My first book from Lexis Davis and I loved this book from start to finish! It starts off as a girl trying to make ends meet by delivering pizzas but upon doing so she stumbles across something she wasn't meant to see. From that point her world turns upside down and she has 1 year to fight through and survive. I loved the banter, the fight scenes, the world building and the spicy scenes. The ending of this book had my jaw on the floor and I am dying to get my hands on book #2 which is set to release later this year 🖤 If you love dark romance, forced proximity, secret society and dark college books, this is one you need to grab asap!

Pretty Vicious is not just morally gray, it’s morally black, and readers should absolutely check trigger warnings before diving in. This is a dark, unapologetic romance that leans hard into secret societies, power imbalances, and a slow-burn enemies-to-lovers dynamic that simmers with tension.
The MMC is dangerous, commanding, and deeply unsettling in the best way for this genre, while the FMC refuses to be passive, pushing back at every turn. The banter is sharp, the atmosphere is intense, and the secret-society elements add a constant sense of unease that keeps the story gripping.
And fair warning: the ending is a cliffhanger. A brutal one. I closed this book absolutely dying for the next installment and immediately needing answers. This story doesn’t just pull you in and it leaves you hanging in the most unhinged way.
Twisted, provocative, and addictive. If you love morally black men, high tension, and shadowy power structures, this one is absolutely worth the read.

This was so fun. It was everything that I wanted and more. I devoured this like a feign. Lexi transported me to another realm in this immersive, academic setting, dark bully romance. The world building and secret society aspects kept me enthralled, so much that I couldn't put my kindle down.
Laurel is a sweet innocent young lady who grows in strength, courage and determination thanks to Carrsons encouragement and belief in her. I cried for her and came to love her character, alot.
Carrson needs to be protected at all costs!! Honestly, fuck his Dad with a rusty nail! Because this acts of service man is more than happy to service Laurel 🤭🤭🤭 and I happy to be sat.

I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would! The beginning chapters had me feeling icky towards the mmc, but the circumstances definitely improved.
I always love reading about secret societies in dark romance, and this was no exception. The university/sorority setting was interesting and I liked the setup of the characters.
Laurel was a great fmc, I loved how strong and stubborn she was and how she grew throughout the book, not letting all the hard things she faced get her down. Carrson teaching her to fight and protect herself was everything!
Carrson himself is a very morally grey, almost black mmc, being the heir to the secret society. He needs to be the leader of this dark culture and he does some very questionable things throughout the book, but it adds to his character development. I liked that we got to see some of the crazy trials he went through when he was younger.
The side characters were also charming, I loved some of the sisters, but Thomson was great and even Samantha really grew on me in the end.
I cannot wait for the second book after the ending, it’s gonna be a painful wait 💀

“You have me all fucked up. I don’t know what to do with these feelings. It’s reckless, the things I’d do for you. The people I’d kill for you. The way I’d burn down the fucking world, turn it all to ash, to keep you safe.”
This is a lot like other dark academia books I have read, but it kept my interest and even had me chuckling a few times at the bater between the characters.
The cliffhanger definitely left me needing to know what happens next. I will definitely be reading the next book and keeping up with this series.

I am absolutely unwell. And by unwell, I mean I finished Pretty Vicious, closed my Kindle, and immediately stared into the void wondering how I’m expected to function as a human until the sequel drops. This was the perfect way to end my 2025… and also the worst, because now I need book two like I need air. 🖤📚
🕯️ The Vibe
Lexi Davis absolutely ate with the atmosphere in this book. Dark Academia meets Southern Gothic in the most deliciously sinister way. Ashford House feels heavy, secretive, ritualistic—like the walls themselves are watching you. And The Order? Not just a creepy aesthetic. The danger felt real, oppressive, and unavoidable. The stakes were high, and the tension never let up.

Laurel was such a standout for me. I loved that she wasn’t a helpless damsel waiting to be saved. Watching her go from a pizza delivery girl just trying to survive college to being trapped inside a secret society was such a brutal shift—but she fought back every step of the way.
And Carrson Ashford… sir. SIR. 🥵 He is the blueprint for a cold, commanding, morally gray MMC. The bonded dynamic? The enemies-to-lovers tension? The constant push and pull? Absolutely feral. The whole vibe was very much “Obey or Die”, and the chemistry between them was straight-up flammable. 🔥
⚠️ The Verdict
Pretty Vicious is dark, fast-paced, addictive, and impossible to put down. I devoured it. HOWEVER—fair warning to future readers: the cliffhanger is criminal. Like, call-the-author-to-the-stand criminal. You will immediately need Pretty Savage.

I saw southern gothic academia + secret society and said YES PLS and I was not disappointed.
This fmc, while not my fav of Lexi’s, was quiet and sweet. She definitely was not the type for a crazy secret society. But our mmc, Carrson, brought the crazy out of her.
Pretty Vicious was a lovely push and pull of tension and slow burn. Lots of hatred and anger and maybe a liiiiittle unwanted lust and intrusive thoughts. The slow burn was absolutely worth it, because Carrson is SUCH A MAN UNF ya know? Did that sentence make sense? No. But do you get what I mean? Absolutely.
He has beautiful respect for women, extreme teddy bear syndrome when you strip back his harsh facade, and it made me want to continue living in their heads for a little while more.
The cliffhanger though? Why don’t you just lay me down in traffic next time. It’ll probably feel better. Jfc 🤣🩷

This was not what I was expecting at all which led to a lot of disappointment. After reading the synopsis, I thought I was going to be in for a wild dark romance with lots of spice. This just wasn't it. The pacing was very all over the place with this being a slow burn in both romance and plot. One thing I did like was how the main characters took time to develop a deeper connection before getting intimate. I just wish it didn't take till about 50% for that to happen. Overall, I thought this one was just okay. It's one of those stories that almost shares too much lore which makes you just want to skim. It definitely felt like a first book in a series. The writing was good except there was a lot of repetition and the ending was very predictable. I'd recommend this story if your curious about dark romance but don't want it too dark.

In ‘Pretty Vicious’, Laurel unexpectedly finds herself drawn into The Order while delivering pizzas. This influential and dangerous society holds far more power than it initially appears. From the very first page, an ominous sense of tension hangs over the story, and it never truly lets go. Beneath the surface, much more is going on than is immediately visible, and the idea that not even all members know what is really happening gives the book an extra dark edge.
The story is told from the perspectives of both Laurel and Carson, the son of The Order’s leader. These shifts in perspective allow the reader to see both sides of the society. The tension between the characters is palpable, and their fear and doubt are portrayed convincingly. Because the point of view constantly changes, uncertainty remains about who can be trusted and who cannot.
Lexi Davis’s writing style is sharp and fast-paced. The short chapters and cliffhangers make it easy to keep reading. At the same time, the pace is occasionally so high that there is little room to truly delve into the characters. This was something I missed at times, although it is largely offset by the constant sense of threat and suspense.
What makes this book particularly strong is its use of themes. Peer pressure, jealousy, manipulation, and revenge play a major role and are quite intense for a Young Adult novel. In addition, ‘Pretty Vicious’ shows how dangerous power can become when it is held by a small, closed group that seems to place itself above everyone else.
‘Pretty Vicious’ is a gripping YA thriller filled with secrets, tension, and psychological mind games. It is a story in which nothing is as it seems, and where joining may appear easy, but escaping is anything but.

I am fully obsessed with this story. I’m a total sucker for enemies to lovers, and the touch her and die trope gets me every time. I love an overprotective caveman MMC with every fiber of my being!
The book is fast paced, addictive, and impossible to put down. Laurel and Carson’s banter is so good, and I loved that Laurel isn’t just a damsel in distress. She fights back, questions everything, and refuses to be small.
One thing I would have loved a little more of is deeper context early on, especially around Laurel’s knowledge and hatred of the society. She talks about how they control the town and bring in violence and drugs, but we don’t really see much of that on page until later, mostly through Carson’s POV. I found myself wanting a bit more foreshadowing in those first chapters before she’s bonded and pulled fully into the chaos.
That said, I really love how Lexi sets up future plot points, and it’s clear this series is going somewhere big. The pacing kept me hooked, and I’m genuinely excited to see where the story goes next.
I am more than ready for the next book and everything that follows.

“Pretty Vicious” was absolutely amazing and addictive! From the very beginning of this book I was hooked. The character development and tension are top notch. I was head over heals for this book. This book keeps you wanting more. This character focused novel will keep you on your toes with the sizzling tension that will be making you turn on the fan. I can't wait till the next book!

Oh. My. God. I knew I would like this, but I didn’t know I would LOVE IT!! Lexi Davis had me absolutely HOOKED, once I started reading I couldn’t put it down!! I love how well written and thought out the secret society is. I also loved seeing both Laurel’s and Carrson’s perspectives, it really helped with understanding both characters. Their tension was insane, they had me giggling and kicking my feet with their banter! I loved seeing them let their walls down and be vulnerable with each other! This was my first Lexi Davis book, and I’m so glad I loved it because it definitely will not be my last! AND THAT ENDING, OMG MY HEART DROPPED!! I can’t wait to see what happens next!! I NEED BOOK TWO IMMEDIATELY!! 😭

The enemies-to-lovers tension with just the right amount of banter? Perfection. The character development was spot-on, and I loved that Carson’s past was woven into the story. Seeing how quickly he had to grow up added so much depth to his character. I genuinely enjoyed this book and can’t wait for the next one!

First of all, thank you so much for the ARC ! That was my first, like, actual ARC and I’m so happy !
SO, honestly, at first I wasn’t that much into the story. I wasn’t a big fan of the writing and I didn’t really like that whole “cult vibe”. But you know what, I’m glad I kept reading. The story didn’t go as dark as I thought it would, which I loved ! And there were actually some sweet moments haha, so I really liked it !
I feel like I’m going easier on this book than on other books because I just got out of a reading slump, but halfway through the story, I really started enjoying it!

If you love a secret society book, especially in an academia setting, put this on your TBR now! It has all the elements I personally love in the genre but adds the surprising element of autonomy for the FMC. Yes, she is forced into her situation by the MMC, but he never presses himself on her or tries to force her into a box which is what normally happens in these stories. Laurel stays herself and doesn't lose her edge along the way. I love that about this book. I also like that Carrson the MMC is not mean for the sake of it. His character does what needs to be done but never feels excessive with the role he has in The Order or his brotherhood.
I also like that we got some depth with some of the many side characters. A shocking amount considering how short this book is. The storyline itself feels like it's an exploration of 2 people trying their best to land softly when life is throwing them out of a plane with no parachute. They're combined traumas tie their souls together like yin and yang kindred spirits. Them meeting in the middle is how they survive. This first book is about their internal fight, the next seems like it's fighting all the external demons. I can't wait for book 2!

I love it when a book completely surprises me.
I have to admit, I read the first few chapters and thought... uh wow, this is dark 😳
The men are unhinged, it’s toxic, it’s very cult-like.
I hesitated to continue, not because I was triggered, but more like, “Do I even want to read something this dark?” (Note: I’m still somewhat of a newbie when it comes to dark romance 👀)
But then, past the 25% mark, I. WAS. HOOKED. 😮💨
This quote really sums up how it felt while reading:
“He's forbidden fruit, and even though it may poison me, I can't stop myself taking a bite.”
Laurel, a girl who just wants to mind her own business, gets swept into a blood-bound society against her will. She finds herself a prisoner, surrounded by dark and dangerous men, and then.... there’s Carrson.
‘Dangerous’ doesn’t even begin to describe him. He’s lethal, complex. I wanted to hate him, but I couldn’t 💔 The more you uncover about him, the more my heart hurt.
"I'm glad you understand the situation so well."
His smile is cruel. "I am the devil, and this is Hell. Welcome. Play by my rules or die. Those are the choices."
I ATE UP the dynamic between Laurel and Carrson. The tension, the banter, the electricity between them was incredible. They both carry trauma, yet the way they fit together just made sense 🖤
This book reminded me why I love a dual POV. The switches made their story even stronger; you get to understand both sides, and their choices hit harder. The dream chapters from Carrson’s POV were my favorite (and also the most heartbreaking ones 🥺).
He kisses me. Not a lava-scorching kiss this time. Not wild and consuming. No, this is something else. It's tender. Steady. Still hot, but in a softer way. It's the warmth of a fireplace after coming in from the snow. The feeling of a favorite sweater against bare skin. Hands wrapped around a mug of steaming cocoa.
The kind of heat that doesn't burn. It stays, soaks in, lingers.
Also, a huge moment of appreciation for the writing ✍️ I don’t know what she infuses in her books, but damn. At one point, I’d been reading for two hours and felt like I’d only read three chapters 😅 The pacing was perfect, and the emotions on the page were raw and beautiful.
And the little artwork pages sprinkled throughout the book? I wasn’t ready for that, but I LOVED IT.

He looks like a deity.
A ruined god, fallen to walk among the mortals.
If it weren’t for that small hiccup in the beginning, this would’ve been a full 5⭐ read.
For now, it’s a solid 4.25⭐ and I honestly can’t wait for book 2!
