For centuries, it has been customary for werewolves to infect their young. Any hope to undermine The Banishing’s law would result in execution at The Gallows.

As such, choosing not to continue their line via transmission of the curse of Lycanthropy has never been attempted.

That is, until now.

Despite Gwendolyn’s acceptance of her fate, her father finds it impossible to infect his only child and all that is left of his wife with such a heinous disease.

In her pursuit to pacify him and overthrow the curse, Gwendolyn complicates their quest by falling in love with a boy who is harboring a damning secret.

A secret that could end them all.

As an uprising forms and Gwendolyn fights to harness ancient magic, she must soon choose if this journey is worth their lives… More importantly, if their love is.

Joined by packs of bloodthirsty beasts, creatures rooted in mythology and an enchantress who holds the key to their future, can she overthrow a curse that has held them captive for generations? Or will her upheaval cost her more than Lycanthropy ever could?

Thank you so much for my ARC!

Moonborn drops you into a world where werewolves, fairies, magic, and so much more come alive. Our FMC, Gwendolyn, is faced with conflicting struggles of wanting to be a dutiful daughter, but also wanting to be unapologetically herself. The main cast of characters feel tangible and like you are along for this journey with them. We get to see each of the characters come to terms with their own internal battles, as well as, overcoming the physical obstacles placed in their way. There are many twists and turns that will keep readers on the edge of their seats, urging them to find out what happens next. Ultimately, the warmth of the bonds between the characters truly shine through and proves just how far each of them are willing to go to save each other.

Can't wait to see how the story will continually unfold in the next book!

Where do I start?! Moonborn is so good! Beautifully written, perfect world building, and captivating plot twists. I couldn’t put it down. A story that keeps you on the edge of your seat, plus the setting is described perfectly where you can imagine everything. I loved Gwendolyn and her father’s relationship. And I loved the romance weaved in too! The story was emotional and heart-wrenching in the best ways. And the ending! Ahh! I can’t wait to read the next one. Moonborn is a must read for anyone who loves fantasy, werewolves, and ancient magic.

A well written book. Moonborn thrusts you into a whole new world, one you didn’t see coming. As FMCs go Gwendolyn isn’t bad. I enjoyed the way she moved and spoke and I even enjoyed some of her choices though there were times I screamed “what!?! No!” Lol. Moonborn keeps you on your toes. The world building is fantastic and bloodlines woven in is even cooler. I haven’t read something quite like this before and I appreciate how it differs from a lot of fantasy out there. Short chapters which I appreciate and cliff hangers that draw you in for more. This was a great read! Can’t wait for book 2!

Moonborn by Sarah Moore

First—huge thank you to Sarah for letting me be an ARC reader!! I really loved the overall plot of this book. You had me hooked from the beginning the second you said werewolves.

I landed on 3 stars, but fellow readers—just because a few things didn’t hit for me does not mean you shouldn’t read this. Definitely give this story a chance.

One thing that tripped me up (and honestly feels silly when I explain it) was the FMC’s dad being named Faolan but having the nickname “Fae.” My brain kept reading “Fae” and automatically thinking we had, well… Fae in this world. Especially in the beginning, I kept getting confused about who or what was being referenced.

The second thing that knocked my rating a bit was the instalove between Gwen and Tiberius. I wish that had been handled a little differently—like, why not make them mates? I’m a sucker for an all-consuming mate bond in shifter stories, and that always hits harder for me personally. Totally a preference thing, but it did affect my reading experience.

My biggest struggle, though, was the POV transitions. From the beginning to about the 50–60% mark, I found myself having to stop and reread sections because the POVs changed without any kind of break or header. Sometimes we’d be in one scene and then suddenly jumping to another in the next paragraph, all in the same chapter. Even just a small break or the character’s name when the POV shifted would’ve helped so much and made the flow way smoother.

I know this sounds like a lot, but I really did enjoy the story and want to give honest feedback that might help it resonate even more with future readers. The plot felt original, the world has a ton of potential, and I honestly can’t wait to see where it goes next.

And THAT ENDING!!! GIRRRRLLLLL—YOU GOT ME. I did not see that coming!!

I received this book via ARC

3.5/5 stars overall (I wish Goodreads would allow half stars)

Overall the storyline and plot were well executed. It dove into a world with more questions than answers which opened up a great plot line for twists and turns which the author threw in well. You can tell the author thought through a lot of the little details when giving you breadcrumbs from the beginning giving again a great story line.

It is closed door and has two romance stories happening side by side.

As many have said there is a HUGE cliffhanger at the end.

The reason I’m giving it 3.5 stars is due to a confusing beginning and a difficult time understanding some of the formatting. What I mean by that is, even though the book is in third person it is read in a biased tone like, “Gwen thought this was strange of him to do” (no spoilers, not a real line from the book just an example). With that formatting a lot of times authors will still space out chapters per POV for different characters, however, in this book there are a lot of times the four main characters in one chapter and not distinguished in a break making it difficult to know who’s thought are who when just using pronouns she/her and he/him.

To end, I want to preface this by saying I did enjoy the book overall as there were quite a few scenes I enjoyed.

As I sit writing this, I find myself struggling to put my feelings into words. Moonborn felt a little overwhelming in places, likely attributed to my autism and my tendency toward overstimulation. Don't misunderstand me, that's a good thing! The story here is so well developed and it will keep readers at the edge of their proverbial seats. There are times of triumph and times of great sadness, as well as times of confusion and times of complete clarity. It is complicated, as life itself usually is.

I liked Gwendolyn as a character, although her relationship with her father felt quite strained despite the close bond they had to each other. This on its own lent much complication to the rest of the plot.

The world the author takes us to is beautiful and deadly all the same, and danger lurks around every corner, inside every shadow, beneath every wave. And don't even get me started on the cliffhanger ending! I'm not usually one for cliffhangers, but even I cannot deny it was the perfect ending, and it leaves me curious to see what happens next.

Ravenheart Rating: 8/10

I received this book from Sarah as an ARC. I'm grateful i read it!

Moonborn creates a unique fantasty world filled with ancient magic, fantasy creatures, and a tyrant king/lost heir trope. Gwen, the protagonist, initially begins ber journey as a young, obedient daughter who grows into a challenging, brave, independent character. Her relationship with her father shows incredible growth and "coming into your own" independence as she learns of her mother's demise, love with a unique MMC, and her father's future.

The story line is twisty and dives into some beautiful writing, the world building sets the scene well and i greatly enjoyed seeing how Sarah made the commonly used werewolf topic unique and interesting in her own way. I found the foreshadowing endearing and subtle, but powerful when the plot continued to travel.

Overall, i loved this book and the surprises it provided. I loved the uniqueness of the characters, i loved the world building and flashes between past and present. I love that Gwen's character wasnt a damsel in distress and rather that she was the strength. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

So, this was my first time reading a book where multiple POVs swap in and out within the same chapter. At first I was like, “Wait, who’s talking now??” but once I got the hang of it—boom, fully submerged in the story.
We’ve got all the goods: supernatural creatures, family secrets, coming-of-age vibes, and of course… prophecy (because what YA fantasy would dare show up without one?).
Now, this is YA, which means no smut. And listen—I like YA, it’s been a while since I picked one up, so it was refreshing. But also… the hoe in me kept whispering, “But what if… just a little smut between all that action?” (Spoiler: there was none. My inner thirst monster will recover.)
The werewolf lore mixed with family dynamics and big emotional stakes really worked for me. And can I just applaud the FMC? Finally a character who doesn’t suddenly level up like she downloaded a training montage. She actually struggles, she’s messy, and her growth feels natural. We love realistic character development.
The ending? CLIFFHANGER. Of course. And now I’m invested in seeing how book two plays out.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 (story was strong, but the smut goblin in my brain docked a star).

I received this as an ARC read.

Moonborn is an atmospheric and heart-wrenching fantasy that lingers long after the final page. Sarah Moore weaves a tale of curses, bloodlines, and moonlit secrets, but at its heart lies the fragile, powerful bond between Gwendolyn and her father.
The world feels alive with folklore and danger, haunted forests, ancient pools, and creatures whispered about in old texts, yet the emotional core keeps the story grounded. Gwendolyn’s struggle to find her place, torn between obedience and destiny, mirrors the tension of every coming-of-age journey.
With prose that is both lyrical and raw, Moonborn builds like the phases of the moon itself: steady, inevitable, and breathtaking. It’s a story of sacrifice, discovery, and transformation. perfect for fans of gothic fantasy who crave both myth and heart.

4.5/5 stars from me! This book had its hooks in me from start to finish. What a beautifully written story! The imagery was fantastic, I could paint such a clear picture in my mind as I read. I loved how in-depth the character and world development were, though I found myself wishing for more background into a few of the characters and their relationships. I also felt like I needed more development of the king; he ended up falling a little flat for me and I didn't despise him like I felt I should by the end of it.
On the plus side...There were so many twists! Some had me actually gasping aloud! I also loved all the love stories involved. I'm rooting for Mira!
I will be honest, there were a few moments that were a bit hard to follow, but overall this is a spectacular book and I can't wait for book 2 to see what happens!!

I didnt know what to expect from this as i havent read just fantasy without smut or triggers in a while. But OMG. It was so good. I devoured it in like 2 days???? I really enjoyed the relationship between our mfc Gwen & her father, and the journey she went on which leads to her obtaining so much self growth.
It is beautifully written in a way that depicts not only the internal battle but the external battles too.

The cliffhanger is hell. Just saying. 🙃🤯

If you love werewolves, fae, magic, and characters that feel way too real… you need to read Moonborn.

Gwendolyn is torn between being the daughter everyone expects — and becoming the person she’s meant to be. And honestly? Watching her figure that out while chaos unfolds around her is so addictive.

The friendships? Deep.
The found family vibes? Immaculate.
The plot twists? I did not see them coming. 👀
And the emotional moments?? I felt those in my soul.

It’s one of those stories where you live with the characters — and you’ll be rooting for them ‘til the very last page. Can’t wait for the next book. 🖤🐺✨

Moonborn is a dark fantasy where the weight of inheritance and the consequences of choice are constantly intertwined.
Hidden and surrounded by limits and secrets, Gwen cannot understand why her father refuses to shape her like himself — why he sets her apart, when others do not hesitate to pass the so-called “curse” on to their own children.

Fueled by a longing to break free from the life she has always known, Gwen chases what she believes in, even as long-hidden truths threaten to change her destiny forever.

Loved this book! The story building is so great, I loved the old werewolf woodsy vibes! The sarcastic moments between Faolan and Tiberius were so funny. Nice short chapters, that leave you on a cliff hanger and makes you keep reading! Cannot wait for book #2!!!

As a reader who enjoys high fantasy with romantic aspects interwoven, I found this book entertaining and easy to read. From lycanthropy to mythical creatures to awakening ancient magic, this book blends incredible elements of fantasy into one cohesive story. Rich world-building is highlighted through the depiction of a magical world thrumming with danger and opportunity, caught in a metaphorical war raging between royalty and the lycanthropes. Meanwhile, the main characters each navigate their own individual journey that is mentally and emotionally trying and physically demanding, pulling the reader deep into the world and its intimate struggles.

Gwendolyn and Faolan are a father and daughter duo that won my heart from the start. I felt both sides intensely: a father hoping to protect his daughter and a daughter seeking freedom from that very protection. This book of self-discovery presents realistic struggles, confirming that there is no right or wrong, only choices and sacrifices. Filled with trial and uncertainty, each conflict highlights character growth as each person evolves to either survive or protect someone they love. Present-day events are embellished with multi-layered backstories, building a foundation for the ominous future ahead. As Mira and Tiberius join Gwen and Faolan on their perilous adventure, the reader learns that complex and emotional histories exist for side characters as well. I found myself racing through the pages, eager to uncover what came next in this story that left me holding my breath.

I received this as an ARC, and I was not expecting a story as unique as this one!
Nearly every chapter had me on the edge of my seat, gasping at cliffhangers, and guessing what would happen next. It’s so easy to fall in love with the characters and cheer them on as they try to overcome all the physical and emotional obstacles in their way.
The world building is so different compared to other fantasy novels (in the best way), and I can’t wait to see where the characters travel to in the next book (or where the next story takes them)!
If you want a distinctive fantasy novel about Lycanthropy, I highly recommend Moonborn!

I received this book as an ARC read. I would give it a 3.5. It was beautifully written. I liked the concept and the storyline, however, especially at the beginning it was a little hard to understand/keep up with. I’d rather have more pages with more explanation of things then it be shortened and slammed pack of events. Hard to keep up with when it’s the first book and you don’t understand the world completely. But overall, this author has a way with words just would like a little bit more of them :)
