Asahi is an ordinary girl who shares a small apartment with the boy she grew up with, Minoru. Which wouldn’t be all that strange, except…Minoru died four years ago. The “thing” that occupies Asahi’s apartment is nothing like her childhood friend—it’s inhuman, grotesque, and keeps demanding Asahi’s life at every opportunity. But Asahi doesn’t mind. As long as Minoru is there with her, absolutely nothing else matters…right?

Yeah, no. I am not doing this one. I mean, the MC is a 17-19 year old girl, the ghost varies between anywhere from 10-12 to very very sometimes the 15 he was before he died, and let's say seeing a 17-19 year old stick her fingers in his mouth (or reverse) or them hug or get close was just a bit mmmm nah. Also the obsession of the girl was just a bit much. I really seriously thought she had murdered him or something given the first scene, but then we learn he died in an accident. And then there are the countless scenes of him trying to murder her... I just wasn't into any of it. And then it also ends on a cliffhanger.. Nah.

This was macabre and twisted. Asahi has an unhealthy relationship with Minoru, the boy she grew up with and who died four years ago. He showed up at her home and she welcomes his presence even though he tries to kill her at every turn. She's managed to reject him so far and is managing the ghost in her own way. The dead boy has remained fifteen, and now his younger brother, Wataru, has grown past him. Minoru has always been protective of his younger brother, but as Asahi seems to grow closer to Wataru, Minoru reveals his presence to Wataru too, and he's not nice about it. First volume ends with this cliffhanger.
This was a bit too much for me. The macabre imagery bordered erotic at times, which felt a bit uncomfortable, considering the real Minoru would've been only fifteen, though the morphing ghost likely isn't even him. I'm not going to read more.

I knew there was something off with Minoru from the moment he appeared on page, but I couldn’t help but grow to enjoy his character regardless. Throughout the volume he continuously changes, never allowing the reader to know what to expect from him. Will he turn into a demonic monster and try to drown the main character, Asahi? Will he act as his old self and request to eat popsicles together? His conforming to his will, something completely unknown to anyone but him, fills the volume with a feeling of constant anxiety. After all, who could guess what someone who just came back from the dead will do next?
While Minoru is the type of scary one may come to expect from a boy seemingly possessed by a demon, Asashi is her own type of frightening. Honestly, the two of them truly belong in a horror story. While the demonic Minoru just appeared in front of Asahi’s house one day, she was somehow able to accept him with open arms—despite the fact he had died in front of her just a few years prior.
Asahi’s willingness to conform to her new reality is both impressive and scary. Her love for Minoru seems to surpass her sense of normalcy and self-preservation, as though he is constantly blatantly coming for her life, she doesn’t seem to blink an eye. This leads to a few rather tense scenes, as she tends to let the boy get very close to achieving his goal.
In my opinion, I believe that Minoru has indeed been possessed by a demon (currently unconfirmed), but is fighting the demon on the inside. This would explain his drastic, and at times rather odd behaviours—asking for her to create a throat for him to enjoy ice cream like he did with her while alive, for example. And to add a reason I find Asahi to be an equally frightening character, she doesn’t even hesitate to shove an arm into his mouth to create it for him upon request.
Asahi’s character is far easier to comprehend than Minoru, in my eyes—she’s heavily grieving the loss of a loved one. She blatantly expresses that she wishes for the Minoru that is currently with her to stay with her forever, so she doesn’t seem to mind all much that he’s changed.
A demonic friend is better than no friend at all, right?

This story revolves around three main characters—Asahi, Minoru and Wataru, whereby these three are childhood friends. Minoru and Wataru are siblings, whereby Minoru is the elder brother and Wataru is the younger brother. The three of them had always been inseparable since a young age.
That is, until Minoru passed away in an attempt to save Wataru from being involved in a car accident.
And out of nowhere, Minoru—or whatever that creature is—came back, and showed itself to Asahi.
What could possibly bring Minoru back? And is that really Minoru? Are these characters really what we thought they are?

A young woman lives with a teenage boy who isn't what he seems...
Thus far not quite as weird as Junji Ito's stuff or Gou Tanabe's Lovecraft adaptations, but certainly intriguing enough. I'm always curious about new horror manga that isn't the traditional ghost story, and this one certainly piqued my interest. While some of the details had rather disturbing erotic & obsessive undertones, I'm in for reading the rest of the story and finding out where the various hints and leads go.
Thus far not quite as weird as Junji Ito's stuff or Gou Tanabe's Lovecraft adaptations, but certainly intriguing enough. But Asahi's fine with the constant weird things this life form does around her house as long as she can have her best friend near her again. This murderous body-horror would be great for readers who have devoured The Summer Hikaru Died and need more reading material.
