Only the worthy will rise.

In the underground city of the Burrows, every eighteen-year-old faces the Convergence—a sacred ceremony where ancient, magical animals called Auryths choose who is worthy of power and a lifebond with them … and who is not.

Today, Lennon Benfield’s fate is sealed. She will either emerge from the ceremony bonded and given the gift of magic or be exiled to Earth’s toxic surface to die.

Slade Whitlow was exiled two years ago after being deemed unworthy by the Auryths. When he arrived on the surface, he expected to meet death. But instead, he finds Solis. Now, he leads those left to die, protecting them from the dangers prowling the surface and the lies that drove them there.

Lennon believes every life is worthy. But Slade has seen what happens when that belief gets people killed. As secrets rise and impossible choices close in, the greatest threat may not be above or below—but within.

Hi everyone!!!

I am the author of Convergence and with reviews starting to pick up, I’m officially going to back out of this space and leave it for you guys ❤️

I just want to say I’m so grateful for everyone who takes the time to read this story and has supported me through this journey. I have loved dystopian since the 2012 era that shook us all, and I desperately wanted to create something that was nostalgic and felt like we were back there while simultaneously being new and different!

Please be aware, this is YA so the writing style is generally meant for a younger audience and there is no spice!!!

This book is truly my heart and soul and I have enjoyed every minute of writing and editing it. I hope you all enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed creating it! 🫶🏼

4.5☆ a dystopian romance where they bond with animals? immediately sold. the way I INHALED this OMG!! the pacing was so fast paced. the way I was STRESSING yet I needed to know what happened was the perfect kind of torture. I’m so excited for the plot to thicken in book two after that ending.

if you need to scratch that dystopian itch or want a quick read that will keep you on your toes, this is for you!

ty to nerdfam for sending me an e-arc!

I absolutely freaking loved this book! I randomly stumbled across the author on TikTok a long time ago, and she was teasing her book, which had me absolutely hooked. Ever since, I’ve been following her journey, and rooting her on! Flash forward to now and I had the honor and privilege of beta reading her novel convergence and I couldn’t be more proud and honored to be part of something this amazing.

Now onto the formal book review:
Convergence starts off and immediately hooks you into an amazing adventurous story. Seriously I had such a hard time putting it down (dang work getting in the way). The fact that this is a debut novel shocks me!! This dystopian novel truly brought me into the world, and made me truly beg for more. The characters are perfect. Lennon is unique, protective, and truly is someone I’d love to be friends with! Slade is my new book boyfriend. Seriously mine! No spoilers, but he’s the perfect grumpy, funny guy. All the other characters, are well rounded and perfect! They add to the story, and make you feel things, I didn’t know I could feel about a book.
I truly loved everything about this book. The plot, the characters, the pacing. Everything! It was unique, had a cool magic system, and truly was everything I hoped it would be. My only complaint is now I have to very impatiently wait for book 2! So please internet, do your thing and blow this up so I can get the rest of the story faster!

I will forever recommend this, and I truly hope everyone reads this!

Lastly, Kearstin, thank you for trusting me with your story. And thank you for taking feedback so well! I feel like I’d dint give a lot, but all I did, you were receptive, and I truly respect that! I consider you a friend now, and what you don’t know about me is, my friends are for life, I will forever love, support, and root for you! Always remember you can come to me for anything.

This book itched the dystopian hole that has been missing for what feels like forever!

Full of strong female power in a dystopian world fighting the bodies (basically real life right?)

Dedication:
“To every person who’s been told, “you feel too much.”
Your emotions are power.”

This one had me feeling every emotion. I cried, I got angry, I laughed, and was just full of energy throughout this whole read. I could have consumed it in a day if life had let me.

This is one of those stories where you’re in love with all of the characters and not just the FMC and MMC.
Especially our wolves . Vesper and Kaleu 🐺🥹♥️
Lief is my favorite though and I’m so stoked to get to know him more.
I love how we are still questioning and on the edge of our seats over Lennon and Slade?!? The slow burn is real!

While Simultaneously breaking inside for these characters.
I love how this completely mind fucked me. You may have cut to so many conclusions, while being so torn, and realizing why it all made sense.
I loved how much this one made me think and question everything.
I love a story where I am always engaged, guessing, and forced to get deeper.
Also obsessed with how much I kept guessing what characters were going to get what creatures 😋

The ending is going to send you btw 😅😂

I’ve been dying to get my hands on this book for months since TikTok and following her journey on Instagram. I’m so beyond thankful that I was chosen by @thenerdfam to be an arc reader. @kdunnwrites is such a sweet individual and the type of author I appreciate supporting ♥️

This book randomly showed up in my FYP on TikTok. It was like it was calling me! I opened a mobile bookstore approx one month ago and watch multiple book related TikTok’s looking for new books to purchase and to see what is hot in the genre’s I don’t normally read. This book kept popping up!!! I’m so glad it did! It has been a hot minute since I read a YA dystopian but that genre is one of my favorites to read. Earlier this week I received a ARC e copy of the book and let me tell you this book does NOT disappoint! The only disappointing thing is having to wait for the next one!
Thank you Kearstin for allowing me the opportunity to read this before its release date. I have pre-ordered several copies of your book to have in my mobile bookstore and I plan to have some type of giveaway to share your book with others. You should be very proud of yourself. The characters are fantastic and pull you in from the very beginning. I could not put this book down! You are seriously missing out if you don’t read this book!

Convergence

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Holy heck!!
I knew from seeing posts and promotions of this book that I would like it. But after reading it! I'm in LOVE!

The magic is top tier. Humans only get magic if they bond to an animal (Auryth) who gives them the magic!! And it is so good! Each animal has its own kind of magic. From frogs to rabbits, foxes, to wolves.
The governing body has decided that only people who bond with an animal are worthy. The rest are to die.
So they get exiled to the surface that is supposed to be toxic and dead from the war many years before.👀🤯
The plot is absolutely thrilling and will keep you locked in the entire time!!
You will love every character and their Auryths. You will laugh, cry, and panic.

Every time I had to take a break from reading - I was already planning when I was going to pick it up again.

I don’t know how Kearstin managed to have a slow burn and a fast-paced book all in one but she did it. The characters are well thought through and developed. The story line is meticulously plotted - I swear I thought I had it figured out and then I didn’t.

I appreciated the details in the pre-read section of the book that gave pronunciations and some illustration. It helped me to have a better understanding of the setting and the plot.

I can’t read to see how this story and these characters continue to develop!

A fast-paced, original debut that reminds me why I love YA dystopia so much. The characters are vibrant and real, and the world is vivid. Reminded me of Atlantia by Ally Condie and Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros with a little Divergent by Veronica Roth vibes as well. My favorite part is the magical animal bonds--there are so many fluffy friends to love. I can't wait to read the next one!

I have mix feelings about this book... On one hand, I loved it. It had a great intrigue and I was really invested in the story. On the other hand, I thought it was kind of lacking some things... The writing was YA, emphasis on the young. It could (and maybe should) have been a longer book since it was jumping from one idea to another without any substance in between. The ideas could have been better exploited and the characters better developed.

All in all, I really want to read the rest of the series to see what's going to happen!

What a KNOCKOUT for a debut book. I am so impressed and in awe of the world that you created, it was excellent. It was an honour to get to be a beta reader, and watch your story grow from where it started to where it is now.

Convergence is a true YA dystopian fantasy, perfectly combining the required elements for the genre. It features very well developed characters, a unique magic system, and a plot that is well thought out and unpredictable. It was truly enjoyable to read, even when it wasn't emotionally.

While this completely feels like its own work, I would say that it is most comparable to the Divergent series, the 100 (show, not book) season one, and Fourth Wing (in regards to the Auryth's bond, and communication). Even if these aren't up your ally, I feel that this would be an enjoyable read for most people who love a good dystopian book.

Convergence had me hooked right from the start (though I fell in love with the world from TikTok). Right away we are thrown into this world, that will only blossom and grow more as the series continues, where you can really immerse yourself due to who well everything is described. I really feel attached to these characters, especially Slade (He is absolutely hilarious and grumpy and perfect), Shiloh (Protect him at all costs, I kept repeating to myself that he better not get Prim-ed), Leif (His full circle moment near the end has my heart. He is a great comic relief character who doesn't fall flat, and his love and defence of Slade is perfection) and Lennon (Her character has made so much growth from where she originally started, I am so proud of the place where she has ended up in this version, she has really come into her own as a character and has a strong voice and sense of self! She isn't the weak or perfect cliché that happens oh too often in these genres, and I love how real she feels). Every character that you get to know feels well fleshed out, thought through, and like they were there for a purpose.

One of my favourite things about this book is the pacing. There is not a single moment in this book that feels flat or that it is dragging on. The chapters all feel intentional, showcasing just how well plotted out this book is. I love that the pace follows the intensity of the situations that the characters find themselves in, especially in the last half of the book where things really take off. I truly wanted to just sit and binge read this book. Though not short, Convergence is a quick read because it is so hard to put it down!

Kearstin, thank you for writing this book, and for allowing me to enjoy this world, and for a look behind the curtain. It has been the coolest experience, and I am forever grateful.

Amazing, immersive, heartbreaking, intense...LOVED IT! Kearstin really hit it out of the park with this wonderful debut novel! I am so honored to have been chosen to read, proof-read, and offer my opinion on the ARC!

The world she created is so detailed and amazing; and the characters are so complex yet easily relatable in so many ways. My advice...go in blind. Let yourself be swept away in this all-encompassing world of 'The Burrows,' 'Solis,' and 'Exion."

The FMC, Lennon, is so fierce and protective and has such a good heart and enviable moral compass, yet you get to see her struggles and how she wars with herself over the decisions she's forced to make. She is a beast!

The MMC, Slade, will make you swoon, rage, and want to kill him and kiss him all at the same time! He's so complex and faces so many struggles along the way, and you cant help but cheer him on!

And don't even get me started on the animals, or "Auryths"...they will anger you, melt your heart, and make you cry! The connection between the characters and their "bonded" will capture your heart!

I cannot WAIT to continue this series and find out how it all shakes out in the end! I absolutely loved every minute of it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Such a good easy read from start to finish! The author grabbed me in straight away and then that was it, I couldn’t put it down. Great world building, whilst I was reading it felt as though I was there with the characters and felt with them.

My only complaint would be that I already need the second book. ❤️

INCREDIBLE!! Convergence hooks you from the very start and pulls you right in to the sci-fi dystopian world, I couldn’t put it down and loved every minute of it.

The storyline is so fresh and unique while also reminding me of fan favorites like The 100, The Golden Compass and even Fourth Wing. The characters are incredibly well written and described, even some of the smaller side characters ended up on my list of favorites and the sarcastic/snarky yet insanely loyal bonds between characters and their bonded animals, Auryths, were so fun and meaningful during the story.

I would read 500+ more pages of this book right now if I could, I already can’t wait for the next one!!!!

An incredible storyline with awesome characters, that will make you laugh, scream, cry, root for them and always keep you hooked and wanting for more. What I love most about this read, is being able to be as clueless as Lennon trying to figure out the world around her and protect those she loves, while also trying to find who she is in the new circumstances that she is surrounded by. She is not only a really strong FMC but is also just a girl, who can be impulsive, emotional, caring, fun and so many more things. From start to ending I was on the edge of my seat and no matter what theories I made in my head there was no way I could have expected the ending, which I loved by the way. Slade is such an intriguing character, we know just enough to love him and know he is just trying to survive like everyone else, but still there is some mystery to him that brings you in without a flicker of doubt.
THE AURYTHS, are the most incredible thing, like you took dystopian to another level and I am absolutely in love with all of them. This took me back to being a kid watching Winx Club and hoping to have powers and be able to communicate with animals (such a childhood dream). This book has been everything and more... Kearstin, thank you for the honor of being able to read it!

Oh My Gosh. Where to even begin. This book blew me away. I could not put it down. The way the author created this world is just so beautiful. The detail. The way I could picture this story as I’m reading. Underground city, YA Dystopian vibes, magical animals (my favorite the wolf), romance and multiple points of view. I absolutely devoured this book. The author keeps you wanting more, the chase, the thrill. The CLIFFHANGER at the end! I cannot wait for book two & this book doesn’t even release for 7 more day!! Do not pass go on this book! Slade I always knew you’d turn out to be my favorite.

Convergence is an action packed, YA, dystopian novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat! I really enjoyed this debut novel by Kearstin Dunn and thank her and the nerdfam for the gifted eARC.

In the underground city of the borrows, 18 year olds must go through the convergence. This annual event held by the regime has magical beings called auryths decide who is worthy of being bonded to them and will rise up through the ranks of society. However not everyone is chosen and is sent to their death above ground for being unworthy.

Lennon has dreaded this day her entire life as she believes every life is worth saving, which is against the rules of the regime. When secrets start to come out about the regime and the world above, lennon will have to choose between her ideals and the people she loves the most.

This book is for fans of books like the city of ember, divergent, the 100, and the golden compass! It's a dual POV narration with a slow burn closed door romance. Our characters have powers that are brought out with magical bonds to animals and are on a journey to uncover the secrets of a world unknown.

I really liked the concept of this book! It's very fast paced and has lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing throughout the book. I loved that our main character wrestles with her moral compass and the political views she has been taught to blindly follow. I felt the author did a good job of describing the setting of the book.

I enjoyed the slow friendship/romance between our two main characters. Their interactions feel genuine and their dialogue was refreshing. I'm loving the bonds to magical creatures of all kinds, I am a sucker for a magical creature book.

I do feel the world building needed a bit more developing. I think this book could have been two books as there was so much content in one book that it didn't allow for in depth explanations about this world. I wish a lot of scenes were more fledged out and had more complex background. We move from "scene" to "scene" so quickly it didn't allow for that and it doesn't make me feel as attached to the characters, places and impactful moments.

Because there was so much going on it felt like there was maybe some plot holes, or just things not fully explained, or things that felt rushed that should have been explained in a first to a series.

** spoilers ahead for those who haven't read**

For example; Archie disappearing- what happened, where do auryths get their powers, why do some auryths live below and don't know about the above ground auryths, how slade manages to be so in control of his powers and teach someone else despite not having a mentor and how did he learn, her grief period of losing her best friend. Many things just felt under developed.

So for me I wish this had been split into two books because I actually did really enjoy the writing style and I'm impressed this is a debut novel! I would have LOVED to have more background information and depth to allow more complex/deep character, world, and plot building. Which you can definitely have in YA!!

the epilogue was great, I did kind of have a feeling we were heading in that direction but it really made me confused about the dad so again hoping a lot of this is cleared up in book two.

I am very excited to continue on with this series and can't wait to see what happens to our characters in book two!

I never write reviews, so Kearstin this one’s for you!

I’ve been in a fantasy spiral since I got back into reading a couple years ago, but dystopian was always home growing up. This book was such a unique bridge between dystopian and fantasy that scratched an itch I didn’t know I had. BookTok, thank you for doing your thing and letting me in on this as it was developing!

First of all, I can’t wait to see where the story will go, and as first time published author, best believe I will be coming back to see where this story takes the beloved characters, and also the writing journey!
We were given just enough to keep the big questions unanswered and prep us to be waiting impatiently for the next book!

As for the characters, it’s so easy to love Lennon and Slade. It takes the grumpy x sunshine trope to a whole new level. Slade is the book boyfriend everyone wants, he pines, hes grumpy with a soft spot, and he’s got a bit of darkness, maybe still some mystery we don’t quite have answers for? It’s clear he’s been through a lot, and trying to survive and keep people alive around him.
Lennon is a strong FMC. Nothing about her feels forced. In a true dystopian way, she’s also just trying to survive and figure out life beyond the lies of corrupt governments. She has to change her ideals and mindsets given what she’s learned, but she never really gives up on the people in her life.
The way the Auryths and their personalities are brought into the story and also parallel to their bonded, LOVE. I personally love the detail to the type of animal and key traits that get included (without saying too much).
I can also tell there are going to be a couple side characters that I’m going to be so attached to as the story unfolds!

The ending:
Without saying too much, the epilogue was the perfect sprinkle of giving an answer but also not really answering anything at all. But also left me even less of a fan of Lennons Dad.
I was actually sad that it didn’t continue because I just wanted to keep learning more.
So SIGH, I guess I’m just waiting to read the next one now!

Big thanks to Kearstin for doing multiple giveaways to read the unreleased ebook! I was super excited to have won, ate this up, and I can’t wait to add the book trophy to my shelf once it’s released! Congrats on such a huge accomplishment!

This is not my normal type of book but wow! Maybe it should be.
Ever since the war, the population has had to live Below because you can't breathe the air Above.
And possibly worse.
Which is also what makes sending people to the surface the ultimate method of population control.
Once a year, everyone is tested to see who they bond with. Everyone MUST bond, because to not bond with an Auryth means you're worthless because you have no access to power or magic.
Which is why it was so important to Lennon that she and Wilder, her best friend and man she was falling in love with both bonded.
But only Lennon does. She bonds with a wolf - only the second time that's happened - and Wonder comes back alone.
He's quickly exiled Above and Lennon must face a world without him and just as her brother, Shiloh, starts getting into trouble himself and Lennon makes a snap decision that may be crazy enough to work.
Or doom them all to death.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Convergence and finished it in one afternoon! Fast paced and interesting, with an entirely new living and magic system that was still well described and easy to understand, it's the best kind of book to jump start my interest into dystopian fiction.

I’M OBSESSED! Very few books keep up reading until after midnight lately but this one absolutely did! I didn’t want to put it down and my sleep was compromised 😂

I am such a big fan of dystopian reads and this one just felt so nostalgic! It’s perfect for fans of The 100 or Divergent!

I absolutely loved Lennon and Slade and their chemistry and dynamic was top tier!
I’m a huge fan of the mental communication trope and was so excited to see it in this book! Their animal companions, Kaleu and Vesper, totally stole the show with their sassy commentary throughout the book. They had me laughing out loud several times 😂

I loved all the secondary characters as well and the found family trope is also a big favorite of mine! Also there was a strong sibling bond with Lennon and her brother Shiloh which I always love to see. I’m so excited to continue the series especially after that last chapter 👀

Seriously one of my top reads of the year!! It was just released on Kindle Unlimited so get your copy now! 👏🏻

4.75 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ if you love dystopian books like the hunger games and the 100 but you also love the magic elements of a fantasy book you simply must read this new Dystopian novel!!!
This book delivers on all the must haves. The plot is fast paced and it will keep you flipping pages late into the night. If you like the dragons and their bonded from fourth wing and the telepathic dialogue they share, then you will loveeee the Auryths! The world is unique and it sucked me right in. I could visualize all of the places we traveled and I miss it already. And Let’s talk about the MMC for a second. He is broody, has a tortured past, and has shadow magic… need I say more? I need more Slade and Lennon in the next book!! ❤️ The book ends on a cliff hanger and I need book 2 in my hands ASAP!!!

✨ARC Review✨

5/5 stars, without hesitation. I have a rule that if a book makes me tear up, gives me goosebumps, or makes me have to close the page for a few seconds to regroup - automatic 5 stars. This one managed to make me do all of that, and I’m a tough crowd!

This is an incredible dystopian fantasy that everyone needs to be running to get. The storyline is unique but gives you that “yes, this is the dystopian fantasy I’ve been missing” feel. If you loved Divergent, Matched, The Mazerunner - this is for you. 🪙

I’m at a loss of words at what more to say other than when’s book 2 coming, Kearstin?!? We need it!! 🥵

Sooo don’t read this book. Because by the end, you’ll be desperate for the second one… and guess what? It’s not out yet. I’m actually losing my mind.

I’ve been begging the book gods for a good read, and this one delivered, it hit me right in the nostalgia. It honestly made me feel like a teen again, totally hooked on a dystopian book and refusing to put it down. The twists, the magic and the emotions hit in this book.

There’s definitely things that could be improved on or expanded on to really give a full picture to the reader, but I feel like it’s only going to get even better with more books and I can’t wait!

“A Dystopian Obsession That Left Me Breathless and Begging for More”

This dystopian fantasy gave me major Silo, Divergent, and Uglies vibes—in the best possible way. The character dynamics were fantastic, full of tension and heart. My emotions were all over the place—heartbroken one moment, irrationally furious the next (you know which character I’m talking about). This story had me in a total chokehold; I physically couldn’t put it down. I need more of this world, immediately. 🔥📖
