The sole survivor of his squad after an IED attack in Afghanistan. Badly injured, Lance is medically retired and must face life outside the Marine Corps. Left adrift, Lance struggles with survivor guilt, PTSD, and addiction to pain medication. Rebuilding his life, Lance is again hit hard with personal tragedy. At the point of just ending it all, the world takes that choice away by trying to destroy itself, while at the same time dumping a group of young boy scouts in Lance's lap.
WHOA, what a backstory on main character, & his retreat from society before WW3 happens. Captivating story, frightening situations, harrowing events. Definitely looking forward to a sequel!
Can't wait for the next book. Liked the extra details on things that happened. The characters reflected real personalities. There are some hard sciences but the author presented the reality of the situations.
