Pearl just checked in. To her own personal nightmare.

Things aren't going well for Pearl Fuller. Reeling from a breakup and struggling to make ends meet, she's sleeping on her ex’s couch and working nights at The Driftwood Motel.

The same motel that years ago was the scene of the legendary Berkman murder. They say that room 52 has been empty ever since that night. But if that's true why can Pearl see someone moving around in there? And why is she the only one who can hear that eerie voice?

No one else seems concerned, but they don’t have to spend every night sitting alone at the front desk, certain that someone is hiding out there in the darkness, watching.

The only bright spot in Pearl’s life is Noah, a guy she recently met who has drawn her in with his charm and good looks. But it's beginning to feel as though Noah isn’t who he says he is, and soon Pearl suspects he knows a lot more about room 52 than he's letting on.

Will Pearl discover the truth before it’s too late? Or is she about to open the door to a nightmare so twisted that her worst fears will pale in comparison?

I enjoyed this.

It's a little silly at times, and I did want our MC to have a little more self esteem, but I was definitely along for the ride.

Expect a fast paced and very suspenseful read!

I was definitely surprised by the who and why of everything and I felt so bad for our MC. She seemed to live a life where everything that could go wrong definitely did go wrong!

This is an easy little beach read. I'd read the author again.

This was a brilliant read. Throughout most of the book I was thinking 4 stars but the twists and the end bumped it straight up to 5!

It was really well written and fast paced. It really picked up around half way through and had me hooked until the end. I wanted to read on and find out what was happening and I didn’t even predict it, that’s how you know it’s twisty.

I really felt sorry for Pearl and angry at others, it definitely evokes emotion. What a rollercoaster!

If you have any content triggers, I advise you to read any trigger warnings beforehand.

I recommend this to anyone who likes a twisty, psychological thriller!

Overall, I give this 5 stars!

The Motel by Nancy Savage, life isn’t going so well for 25 year-old pearl she works the night shift at a job she used to love but since her original boss Jack died and his daughter Heather has taken over she finds every opportunity to make pearls life miserable not to mention she recently broke up with her boyfriend Peter but due to financial issues she still sleeping on his sofa. This is why when Lucas tells Pearl about an app where she can do odd jobs at her convenience she is reluctant but her other coworker Molly insist she sign up. This is when she gets the email saying she’s been matched to be a house sitter for a woman named Cherry she is to watch her animals for a week while her and her husband are out of town and she will be paid $1000 something pearl desperately needs. this is where she meets kind Noah who seems to always be around when she needs someone and when he’s not all she has to do is call and he immediately shows up and she feels like she’s really falling for him. it may look like pearl’s life is looking up but it really isn’t. She learns her ex and now roommate Peter is dating someone else which is the catalyst for her to move out not to mention all the strange things that’s been happening like her getting locked in the janitors closet at work, the attic at Cherry‘s house not to mention someone let all the rabbits out of the hutch at her housesitting job. even though she feels as if she’s falling for Noah her ex Peter is sending her mixed signals leaving pearl not knowing what to do in the middle of all the trouble someone is visiting on poor pearl. She even gets accused of breaking inCherry safe and stealing $50,000 cherry accuses her of getting the job under false pretenses in pearl knows someone is setting her up she just doesn’t know who it could be. by the time Pearl finds out who the culprit is she may not live long enough to tell anyone about it. There is so much more to this book because I haven’t even mentioned room 52 which pearl never thought to be haunted despite the rumors but soon she hears a woman singing and sees someone looking out the window when the room should be empty. It is so well done and when I say I couldn’t put the book down I’m being completely 100% honest. this is a crafty mystery and although a smarter person could’ve followed the clues, I myself was totally shocked! I do want to say I felt bad for poor pearl the way her mom treated her being abandoned by her dad when she was little but I did fine Pearl was the creator for a lot of her problems whenever a decision was to be made she seem to always make the wrong one and I totally didn’t get why she gave her last $20 to the charity when you need a gas for her car but I digress this book was still a great interesting twisty read I have read other books by the author it will continue to do so as long as they are as good as this one. #BookSprout, #TheBlindReviewer, #MyHonestReview, #NancySavage, #TheMotel,

Pearl works at the Driftwood Motel and is always mindful of all her boss’s expectations. Pearl can’t risk losing this job. Her boyfriend Paul and her have just broken up and now she sleeps on the couch until she can find somewhere to move into. But things aren’t looking too good for her.

Her life is in the throes of chaos and she can’t afford for anything else to go wrong.

This was a wild ride of a book. Just when I thought Pearl couldn’t possibly handle any more being thrown at her she did. Always rising above and conquering the world.

I loved the setting of the motel and the murder room. But, I just have to say that Paul’s “excuse” for ending their relationship was so fking stupid. Like cringe-worthy stupid.

AG recommended this book after she read it, so I of course skipped reading the blurb and just purchased the book. Another killer rec because I loved this one.

The story is mostly told from Pearl’s perspective, but every now and then we get the ominous chapters that are from some unknown person who is watching Pearl. This becomes the mystery we need to try and figure out. Who is this mysterious person who is watching Pearl and why are they watching her.

There’s also the fact that the motel has a “murder room” where you guessed it - a murder happened years back.

The twists and turns that this book takes will leave your head spinning. Such a fun and crazy read.

The Motel had a synopsis that gripped me from the start.

I felt for Pearl at the way things worked out for her. I was anxious for her as she took a job at the motel. I was happy when she met Noah, and hoped he would bring stability to her life.

Who is he really?

What happened in Room 52?

The Motel is very well written, and is a book that will stay with me for a long time. Thanks to Nancy Savage.

The Motel is a slow-burn psychological thriller centered around Pearl Fuller, who works at the Driftwood Motel, a place infamous for its “Murder Room.” Decades earlier, a woman killed her husband in room fifty-two and then disappeared, leaving behind a chilling reputation that has haunted the motel ever since.

Now, strange things are happening in that same room, and Pearl takes it upon herself to investigate. But she’s juggling her own struggles too; a recent breakup, homelessness, and the unsettling feeling of constantly being watched.

While the premise hooked me, I expected more from the story. Too many loose ends were left unresolved, particularly the mysterious “Watcher” who appeared occasionally but never truly connected to the motel or revealed an identity. Pearl’s character also felt stuck in a repetitive cycle, which made her come across as bland and indecisive. And the ending? Odd and unsatisfying.

Overall, this one had great atmosphere and potential, but it didn’t quite deliver on the intrigue it promised.

Y’all. Pearl just checked in… to her own personal nightmare. The Driftwood Motel isn’t just creepy—it’s Room 52 creepy. Years ago, a grisly murder happened there, and the room’s been “empty” ever since… except Pearl sees movement and hears a voice no one else can. 🛎️

Pearl Fuller is us when life decides to be cruel: dumped, broke, couch-surfing, and stuck working nights where shadows lurk and danger whispers. Enter Noah—charming, handsome… and hiding secrets that might be tied to Room 52. 😏

Savage nails tension, atmosphere, and suspense—so vivid you can smell the mildew and feel the cold creeping through the hallways. Some twists are predictable, but the characters and creepy motel vibes keep you glued.

I really enjoyed this thriller. It follows Pearl who seems to be plagued with unfortunate circumstance after unfortunate circumstance. Whether it’s bad life choices or just a twist of fate, our girl, Pearl is definitely out on her luck. She works the night shift at a local “stuck back in time” motel. Her boss seems to hate her, her mom isn’t the nicest, and she and her boyfriend are broken up and financially she can’t seem to get her head above water. And could there be a ghost at the motel messing with her? Things just aren’t going her way. Could it get any worse? Well, you know the old adage about asking that question.
I enjoyed this story immensely with its shocks, suspense and revelations that I quite frankly wasn’t expecting. 100% RECOMMEND

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Overview
The Motel is an engaging mystery thriller that weaves together a dual timeline narrative filled with tension, secrets, and slow-building suspense. The story alternates between the perspective of Pearl, a woman navigating a difficult period in her life after losing everything, and that of a mysterious watcher, whose cryptic observations add an extra layer of unease and intrigue. As the plot unfolds, the reader is kept guessing about the watcher’s identity and just when you think you’ve figured it out, a second twist shifts everything once again.

My thoughts
I found The Motel to be an enjoyable and well-paced mystery thriller. The short chapters added to the pacing, making the story easy to fly through while maintaining a consistent sense of intrigue.
The dual timeline worked effectively to build suspense, and the inclusion of the watcher’s perspective was particularly clever as it kept me guessing right up until the end, especially with the unexpected second twist.
That said, there were a few elements that didn’t quite land for me. In particular, Peter’s character felt somewhat out of place. His extreme reaction to what happened between Pearl and Jason (before the events of the book) seemed disproportionate and didn’t add much emotional depth or development to Pearl’s arc, other than setting up her desperation and homelessness, which became the foundation for the rest of the story. I couldn’t help but feel that their breakup could have been handled differently or for another reason that tied more organically into the plot. Instead the plot touched on domestic violence (controlling behaviour) without putting any thought into how the topic was explored. Perhaps Peter was intentionally portrayed in this way to give another suspect for who the watcher could be but it just didn’t work for me personally.
Despite in my opinion a few minor character missteps, it’s a solid, short thriller that will kept me engaged and eager to uncover the truth.

In The Motel, Pearl Fuller struggles with emotional and financial challenges while working the night shift at the mysterious Driftwood Motel. The motel is infamous for an unsolved murder and the eerie Room 52, said to be haunted. As Pearl encounters strange events and grows close to an enigmatic man named Noah, she begins to question what is real and what is imagined. This psychological thriller explores trauma, isolation, and the thin line between reality and illusion.

Hands down, I’ve never read an ARC faster than I read The Motel. I started this book last night at 8 PM, got 75% in by 10 PM, and finished it this morning before work—I WAS INVESTED in Pearl’s story. Pearl was actually very likeable and incredibly relatable; although she was going through a really rough time and was on the verge of homelessness, there are moments where, despite her hardship, she is kind, honest, and quietly resilient.

I loved the eerie aspect of Room 52, and especially loved the motel setting—it gave the story a dark, atmospheric vibe that perfectly matched Pearl’s circumstances. The plot is quick, fast paced read, and the end literally made my jaw drop and gave me that smirk on my face that clearly says "I did NOT see that coming but damn that is GOOD". This is a 5 star read and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a thriller with a little razzle dazzle of spooky.

This book had me wondering: if I had nowhere else to go, would I stay in a haunted motel room with a dark history?

An enjoyable read

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5 stars)

The Motel by Nancy Savage was a fun and surprisingly engaging read that blended drama, romance, and suspense in an entertaining way. One of the main aspects I liked was following Pearl as she searches for love while caught between two men, Noah and Peter. Though I personally felt both were wrong for her, it was interesting to watch her navigate her emotions and see who she would ultimately choose.

Another big highlight for me was Lucas. It’s rare to find a character who starts off as sleazy and ends up being genuinely lovable, but Lucas completely won me over as the story progressed. I really appreciated how the author gave his character growth and maturity. Similarly, Heather turned out to be another unexpected favorite. While she is mean most of the time, she’s dramatic and over the top at times in an entertaining way that she often lightened the mood.

The ending was another strong point, packed with twists I didn’t see coming,  especially the reveal about the watcher. There are multiple surprises in those final chapters, and they tied the story together in a satisfying way.

If I had one critique, it would be that the book leaned a bit more into drama than suspense. While the drama kept things lively, I sometimes wished for more tension and mystery. Some of the suspense scenes also felt repetitive, like the repeated instances of Pearl checking on the Branson house and finding another animal missing. Moreover, though I liked Edsel as a character, his role didn’t feel entirely necessary to the plot.

Still, The Motel delivers a solid slow-burn thriller that truly picks up in the second half. With its engaging characters and twisty finale, it’s an enjoyable read that keeps you guessing right up to the end.

This time last year, I read The Couple In Cabin 14 by this author and really enjoyed the writing style, which perfectly suited this, my favourite genre.

This read already had me hooked before I had even opened the book!

Ever since starting my thriller/horror reading journey, I've found that hotels/motels make such a great backdrop to a creepy read.....and this was certainly no exception.

After her breakup, Pearl is struggling to make ends meet and working nights in The Driftwood Motel.

It's creepy enough working nights alone - but this motel was the scene of the legendary Berkman murder and Pearl is certain that she can see movement and hear whispers from inside the room that's been empty ever since.

This had me on edge right from the start and I honestly feel like at points, I stopped breathing and didn't dare blink - I had to read on and find out what was going on.

I even made the mistake of reading late into the night to reach the end and let me tell you, I regretted it!

I was so unsettled that I had to run up the stairs to bed and I dreamed about this book all night!

As bad as this sounds, it's the best sign of a good read and shows just how immersed in Pearls story is become.

I loved the way the characters were portrayed and developed throughout.

Pearl was so relatable as she spent a long time internalising things - so like me!

Noah, although very charming just had me feeling a little wary - was he too perfect or was something else at play here.

I'm just an untrusting kind of girl!

This was a fast-paced and atmospheric read that has you questioning your own beliefs at times.

Give it a read if you dare!

Perfect for spooky season!

The Motel opens with a deliciously eerie premise—a weary night clerk, a seaside motel steeped in rumor, and the unsettling sense that the past is never truly locked away. Nancy Savage wastes no time plunging Pearl Fuller into an atmosphere thick with unease, where odd noises, half-glimpsed figures, and questionable strangers blur the line between paranoia and truth.

The setting is a standout—humid coastal air, dimly lit hallways, and a perpetual undertone of decay. Savage’s writing balances restraint with precision, making each flicker of movement and shadowed corner feel charged with threat. Pearl’s internal landscape—tinged with exhaustion, insecurity, and a quiet yearning for stability—gives the tension a human heartbeat.

Where the book excels in mood and character, it occasionally falters in momentum. Some threads feel left dangling, and the final act leaves questions that may frustrate those wanting a more airtight resolution. Still, the disquiet lingers after the last page, making it a read that thrives more on its atmosphere than on traditional thriller beats.

For readers who like:
- Coastal Gothic settings
- Small-town secrets
- Darkly atmospheric

Final Verdict
The Motel is less about jump scares and more about the slow seep of dread. While it won’t satisfy readers hunting for a tightly plotted thriller, it will appeal to those who savor mood-driven mysteries where the setting itself feels like the most dangerous character.

Grateful to NetGalley, Inkubator Books, and Nancy Savage for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this story in exchange for an honest review.

I really loved this book from the start! The writing is superb and kept me engaged to the very end. The Motel is the ultimate suspense/thriller. I enjoyed how the author developed the main character as the story unfolded.

Pearl, the FMC, works at the Driftwood Motel, which is one of the main settings of the book (and the location of a previous murder). The Motel itself contains mysteries, tales, and questionable characters. The suspense of what actually occurred in room 52, along with who would be revealed as "The Watcher," left me on the edge of my seat.

Pearl was down on her luck, between the breakup with her boyfriend, no place to live, and running extremely low on funds. She can't depend on her sister or her mother, so she's left to figure out how she will survive. She takes an additional job as a house/pet sitter to earn some extra money, which only contributes to the drama. All the juggling she does between her two jobs, her ex, her awful boss at the motel, and the unusual situations she needs to deal with left me wondering what would happen next, along with who was behind the mysterious incidents.

The twists and turns were jaw-dropping. I never saw the ending coming! It was such a satisfactory ending with the author tying up all the loose ends.

I loved the fast pace of the book and how the author brought the characters to life. I definitely recommend the book and look forward to reading more books from this author.

Thank you, Netgalley & Inkubator Books for this ARC!

There’s something about late-night reads that hit different—especially when the story itself is set in the dead of night, in a run-down motel with secrets stitched into every creaky floorboard. I picked up this eerie tale on a whim, and let me tell you, I wasn’t ready for the emotional rollercoaster it took me on.

Pearl Fuller is one of those characters who feels like someone you might know—or maybe even a version of yourself during a rough patch. She’s heartbroken, broke, and bunking on her ex’s couch (we’ve all had our couch-surfing moments, right?). Her only escape is her night shift at The Driftwood Motel, a place that’s seen better days and harbors a chilling past—the infamous Berkman murder in room 52.

Now, I’m not usually one to get spooked easily, but the way this story builds tension had me glancing at my own hallway more than once. Pearl starts seeing movement in the supposedly empty room 52 and hears voices no one else seems to notice. It’s that kind of creeping dread that slowly wraps around you like a cold blanket.

The only light in Pearl’s life is Noah, a charming stranger who seems too good to be true. And of course, he is. As things unravel, Pearl finds herself accused of theft, haunted by family secrets, and tangled in a mystery that’s far deeper than she ever imagined. The twists come fast, and just when you think you’ve got it figured out—bam—another layer peels back.

If you’re in the mood for a thriller with a touch of the supernatural and a whole lot of emotional depth, this one’s worth checking into. Just maybe keep the lights on.

Nancy Savage's The Motel is a brilliant thriller that had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. The story follows Pearl Fuller, whose life seems to be unraveling after a difficult breakup. As she navigates her new reality, sleeping on her ex’s couch and working nights at The Driftwood Motel, the tension quickly escalates.

The motel itself is not just a backdrop; it's a character in its own right, steeped in the chilling legend of the Berkman murder. The unsettling presence of room 52, which has remained empty for years, adds an effective layer of mystery. Pearl's experiences - seeing movement in a room that should be vacant and hearing eerie whispers - create a haunting atmosphere that kept me guessing.

What I found particularly engaging is Pearl's internal struggle. Is she genuinely witnessing supernatural events, or is her mind playing tricks on her as she copes with her tumultuous life? The suspense builds beautifully, crafting an eerie world where Pearl must confront her fears - both supernatural and emotional.

Noah, the charming stranger, is the perfect foil to Pearl. As her budding romance unfolds, doubt creeps in, and readers are left questioning his true intentions. This tension between trust and suspicion is masterfully woven, making the stakes feel incredibly high for Pearl.

Overall, The Motel is a gripping read that blends psychological intrigue with supernatural elements. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a suspenseful ride that explores the darker corners of the human mind alongside spine-chilling mysteries!

First off, I need to say that I absolutely love this cover. It’s absolutely beautiful!!

Now let’s get right into it, shall we?
Pearl Fuller, our FMC, is down on her luck. Her breakup has left her without stability, she’s broke, her mother isn’t exactly supportive, and her boss at the Driftwood Motel seems to despise her. Stuck working the graveyard shift at this “frozen in time” motel infamous for an unsolved murder and the mysterious, possibly haunted Room 52, Pearl just can’t seem to catch a break.

Between juggling her job, a side gig as a house/pet sitter, and run-ins with questionable characters, life only gets more complicated. And as if the mounting pressures weren’t enough, strange, almost ghostly occurrences in the motel make her question what’s real and what’s not.

I absolutely loved how atmospheric this was. The Driftwood Motel itself feels like a character. Dark, unsettling, and dripping with secrets, it perfectly mirrors Pearl’s struggles. I loved the eerie tension around Room 52, and the creeping suspense surrounding “The Watcher” kept me on the edge of my seat. Add to that the well developed cast of characters, none of whom are quite what they seem and the result is an addictive, twisty ride.

This is the first book I’ve read by Nancy Savage, but it definitely won’t be my last. The Motel is creepy, twisty, and totally bingeable, a thriller with just the right splash of spooky that kept me hooked all the way through.

Huge thanks to the author and @inkubator books for access to the digital ARC via NetGalley in exchange for honest feedback.

In the small town of Blackridge Falls sits the outdated Driftwood Motel. Pearl has been demoted from dayshift to the uneventful graveyard shift where the most exciting duty is the midnight security check. While the motel may be lost in time, Pearl also finds herself lost and unable to move forward with her job and her once happy relationship. She’s stuck in the routine of sleeping on the sofa of her ex-boyfriend’s apartment and working her night shift. The people she mainly interacts with are a few friendly permanent hotel residents, a few coworkers and a boss who seems to have had it in for her since the first day the boss took over management.

Desperate for some change, she accepts a temporary job to help supplement her income for a new apartment. If that isn’t bad enough, there’s a secret stalker in the background, the eery atmospheric creepiness of the motel’s Room 52, and more trouble for Pearl that awaits during this stagnant period of uncertainty.

This is my first of several motel tropes on my TBR and was the perfect choice! It’s a riveting page-turner that evoked a range of emotions. Initially and throughout, I was sympathetic about Pearl’s problems. It continued to hold my attention because of how the mysterious subplots began weaving together more twists than a pretzel! It isn’t often that a psychological thriller leaves me smiling at the end and then throws another surprising final blow. (Don’t skip the epilogue!)

I’m now guilty of becoming a new reader fan of Nancy Savage.❤️

My Thoughts: I really enjoyed this one, it almost didn’t read like a thriller to begin with but as the story goes on you do find yourself being slowly pulled in until your left reeling, but knowing which way is up and who you can trust.

Pearl is a rather unlikeable character to begin with, I found her really whiny, yeah she found herself in situations that weren’t ideal, but she didn’t seem to want to do anything to make it better.

Until her colleague encouraged her to put her details on a job website..

What seems like the perfect job comes up for her, it’s only for a week, puts a roof over her head gives her a bed to sleep in and it involves animals.. what could possibly go wrong?!

I didn’t know wether Pearl was safer at the motel or at the house she was looking after because once things started doing wrong she just couldn’t catch a break.

The book has a whole cast of characters & all of them could have been guilty.. I even started wondering if Edsel was involved.. he just always seemed to be there when things kicked off at work.

I found myself unable to put the book down once the action kicked in, I needed to know how it ended.

I would really recommend this one if you enjoy a slow burn thriller.

The motel is a psychological thriller. I was able to fly through this because it was pretty fast paced.
Pearl is really going through it. Everything that could go wrong in her life is going wrong. She works night shift at a motel, her boss hates her, her boyfriend broke up with her and she's still sleeping on his couch in his apartment because she can't really afford anywhere else. She needs something else to help her bring in a little extra cash. Her co worker tells her of a website where she can put in her skills and get jobs based on her skillset. Here she gets a job house/pet sitting for a couple while they go out of town. But when she goes to the house, weird things keep happening. Also, at the motel where she works, weird things are starting to happen to her there too. Especially when she sees the curtain moving in what they call the murder room or the singing she hears coming from the room next door when she is in the murder room.
The story is twisty and you don't really see it coming. But I love the way everything ties in together at the end. This was really thrilling and suspenseful. I'd definitely recommend this one.

🌸 BOOK REVIEW 🌸

Pearl works at this hotel in a small town and she just has the most awful luck, with relationship issues, homelessness, living dollar to dollar. She has been experiencing some strange things happen “The Watcher” pops in and out of the book being freaking creepy 🤣 she responds to an ad for a house sitter job which will pay her a good chunk of money and she can finally get her own place. Of course it’s to good to be true. I don’t want to give to much spoilers but the most psychological suspense really kicks up mid book and the end just had my mouth wide open!

This book had such great suspenseful moments I was literally glued to this book trying to figure out what the hell is happening. Moments where I may have been a big baby and flicked my bedroom light on to make sure no ghosts were hiding in my room about to touch me 🤣🤣 overall an amazing book, an amazing read!! There’s just something about creepy motels that instantly sets the tone, and The Motel had me on edge from the very first chapter. Nancy Savage paints the Driftwood Motel so vividly that I could feel the unease that comes with working the night shift in such a place.

I really felt for Pearl. She’s had such a rough time, and the last thing she needs is to be spooked by an empty room. The fact that no one else believes her only made me root for her more. I loved how her personal struggles blended with the unsettling mystery of room 52, it gave the story an emotional weight as well as plenty of chills.

Noah was another highlight. I wasn’t sure whether to trust him, and that kept me second-guessing right up until the truth started to surface. It made the whole experience that much more suspenseful.

If you enjoy thrillers with a touch of the supernatural and a heroine who feels real and relatable, The Motel is definitely worth checking into. Just maybe keep the light on while you read.

3.5 stars for me. Pearl Fuller working nights at The Driftwood Motel. The motel that is unfamous because Berkman murder that happened in the past. Room 52 is empty ever since . Sleeping at her ex boyfriend sofa and out of money ,life for Pearl is hard enough without strange things that happening at motel. Pearl get her situation sorted for short time, once she get opportunity at house sitting. Then she meet owners gardener Noah ,and maybe will finally move on , and let her ex Peter go?

Who is the singing in room 52?
Who is trying to destroy Pearl life?
Is she in danger?

Full of suspense, creepy hotel room and tension it was enjoyable read. Wish only for Pearl to have more backbone ,and deal with her ex Peter, instead of letting him put all blame on her. I didn't like him, and was hoping she could see she's better off.

Good mystery thriller with a twist that I didn't expect. Hope to read more by this author.

Thank you netgalley, booksprout and publisher for arc.

Ok, this book here – it deserves, no, it NEEDS all the attention it can get!

As soon as I was done reading it, I realized I wanted to scream from the rooftops about it. It needs to be seen. It needs to be read. The world needs to know about it.

Have you read The Vacancy in Room 10 by Seraphina Nova Glass? Did you love it? Then you will absolutely love this one. It has the same vibe (but not the same story), an atmospheric, eerie motel in the middle of nowhere, weird people, sketchy characters, found family, twists, and a very, very satisfying ending. Also, if you are like me and start to wonder if the book might get ruined by a sneaky surprise paranormal twist – nope, that doesn’t happen here! Nothing paranormal here!

Now, tell me, what do we do to make this book go big now? I really want more people to see it. I believe it deserves to be seen by every thriller reader out there. Forget about McF and the likes, this is the real deal now.

First, thank you Netgalley & Inkubator Books for this ARC!

Motels - or hotels - with haunted rooms are surely no new thing in fiction, but I can't deny it is a trope I do really enjoy. Easy to say, though, seeing I do usually not stay in motels/hotels myself. Like, I can count on one hand how often it has happened in my life.

anyway, back to the book. Our MC, Pearl, does work nightshifts at The Driftwood Motel, which, years ago, was the scene of a murder, and the room it has happened in stayed empty ever since. Only Pearl, when being all alone on her shift, is hearing sounds coming from there. She feels watched, and convinced someone might be hiding in there for reasons she really does not want to think about....

I did really enjoy the dark and eerie story and do very much recommend it! 5 stars from me!

This was my first time reading anything by Nancy Savage, and I was completely pulled in. The story follows Pearl, who’s going through a tough time, she’s broke, heartbroken, and working the night shift at a run-down motel with a dark past. She’s trying to hold it together, but life keeps throwing curveballs.

The Motel is the perfect setting for a thriller. It’s creepy, quiet, and full of secrets. Room 52, in particular, gave me chills. There’s something off about it, and Pearl seems to be the only one who notices. The way the story blends mystery with a touch of the supernatural kept me guessing the whole time. I scare easy so I was careful while reading this.

Noah, the mysterious guy who shows up and adds even more questions to the mix. I wasn’t sure what to make of him.

The ending was wild. It’s gripping, eerie, and full of unexpected turns.

Pearl (great name) was such an interesting character to follow. Don't get me wrong, that girl attracts some serious chaos, but the writing style had me utterly sucked in to the story and hungry to discover what happened next in Pearl's haphazard world.

I also really admired her tenacity, because things are really stacked against her at several points in the story but she just digs deep and carries on - I really liked that part of her character. She was also deeply flawed and made illogical choices at points but that just made this all the more readable.

My second favourite character was probably Lucas, he added a fun dimension to otherwise eerie events that unfold around Pearl.

Overall this was a good psychological thriller, with a few really nice fun touches - I don't think I've read anything else by Nancy Savage but she's an author I will look out for now.

Pearl is having quite the time with her life, it was great, a wonderful sexy boyfriend she has lived with, and then it all goes bad and wrong all at once. A guy kisses her, and she backs up and tells him that is not okay. But when she tells Peter, he takes it that she kissed him, and...
Now they are broken up, she is out of money, no place to stay... and that is just the nice beginning to her days of hell!
If you would like to read a book that will keep you reading, wondering what could happen next, this is that book! I do know that if I am looking for a hotel, I would not stay in room 52.
Thank you, Nancy Savage, for a great story!
I received a complimentary copy of this book and this is my honest review.

I struggled with this book. Pearl Fuller wasn’t a very likeable character for me—she often complained about her life and didn’t seem very good at either of her jobs. A lot of her choices felt frustrating or confusing (WHY would you spend time snooping through your boss's house when you know you're on a time crunch?), which made it really hard to connect with her.

The motel storyline didn’t really come into play until the very end, and Noah’s character wasn't connected to it in any meaningful way. The whole 'there's something going on in room 52 and 'why is she the only one who can hear that eerie voice?' plot resolution was so disappointing.

Overall, the story just didn’t work for me.
