"You’re my person, Ace. It's you. It’s always
been you."

If it’s a childhood best friends to lovers with a marriage of convenience and a second chance? You don’t have to ask me twice. There’s a dual timeline, past and present, which I loved, we get to see how they become friends and what went down. Devny, I loved her and the development she went through during the end of the book, despite having high walls, she truly cared about the people around her. Gary was a loyal and understanding man. He saw devny for who she was and still loved her, he was so patient. I loved how vulnerable they could be.

This was my first book from K.C. Brooks and it was such a treat! What a fun story.

I’m a sucker for a good accidental Vegas marriage trope and tying this in with a childhood friends to lovers twist was so good!

Both of the main characters had so much they were having to overcome, especially Devyn and the way Devyn and Grayson came together and met each other with understanding and love to help overcome their problems was just so sweet.

The mysterious intrigue and suspense was an interesting addition and well written, keeping my interest throughout the story.

I definitely plan to add her other books to my TBR.

What to expect:
❤️ accidental Vegas marriage
♥️ he refuses to sign divorce papers
❤️ childhood friends to lovers
♥️ second chance romance
❤️ ex pro baseball player x lawyer
♥️ parent with Alzheimer’s rep
❤️ mystery and suspense
♥️ “my wife”
❤️ “it’s always been you”
♥️ dual timeline and POV

Don’t you hate when you wake up in Vegas next to your hot best friend you’ve always been in love with, and then realize you got married? Yeah me neither. Sign me up now.

Devyn and Gray are precious but I can’t help to think if they just TALKED ABOUT THEIR FEELINGS they could’ve been together way before this. I guess that’s realistic though…right? I mean I know these are fictional characters but I feel like I know them and am emotionally invested in their drama.

I didn’t expect to get so emotional at the Alzheimer’s representation. I worked with Alzheimer’s clients for 7 years and it is all of the things you’d think. Sad, hard, frustrating, but sometimes beautiful, and those beautiful times are also heart wrenching.

⭐ 4
🌶️ 1.5
🥵 Spicy chapters: 28, 29, 34
📚 Tropes/Themes: woke up married, it's always been you, childhood friends to lovers, second chance, dual timeline, protective mmc, found family, forced proximity, my wife
👀 Dual POV 1st person
🩷 Something I liked: Gray's tattoos 🥹
🧠 Triggers: Alzheimer's, parental death, CA, kidnapping.
🛍️ Available: Now!

💬This book was very unexpected, but in a very good way! I tend to go into books blind- mostly just skimming the blurb for keywords but other than that I just like going into them with an open mind.

The first note that I wrote down was: "This book makes me want to do silly emojis like :3 " because as I started reading it and realizing what the tropes were I was just so freaking excited about all of my besties being in one story 🤣

But not only that, it's like those tropes were in there but they weren't a part of the story but the story was still SO GOOD. That probably doesn't make sense- I guess I mean more that my favorite tropes weren't the main tropes? Either way it's sweet and swoony and I was just rooting so hard for Gray and Devyn to have their HEA. 🥹

And then it morphs from Gray and Devyn working through their trauma and tumultuous relationship/past to a really well done romantic suspense plot.
I feel like the middle dragged a little bit, as it was transitioning from relationship to suspense, but that's not really a big issue

I also appreciated that I was able to read/follow the story easily without having read the previous three books in the series. I mean obviously the prior characters show up in the story but nothing was confusing.

Along with that I think this is the first time I've read an FMC who has self esteem issues but I don't find it annoying. Meaning a lot of times the fmc's issues are just constantly repeated in the book and I kind of just want to tear my hair out and go "I get it!", and that was not the case here so I really like that too.

BRB going to go add the first three books to my TBR

ARC review this book has me reeling! This is an accidentally marriage following Devyn and Grayson who grew up together and had a friendship that doesn’t compare to most friendships. I wasn’t expecting some of the twists and turns I almost felt like the last half of the book wasn’t just romance but so much more without spoiling anything I will say the second half had me on the edge of my seat! The spice in this was perfect only adding to the story and not taking away from the plot which I loved! Highly recommend!

Devyn and Gray are so full of angst and longing for each other. Once they both finally pull their heads out of their asses and start being honest with each other, they realize what they’d both been missing from their lives all along is each other.

I love an accidental Vegas marriage, enemies-to-lovers-to-childhood best friends-back to enemies-second chance romance, and this book is everything you want with those tropes. Add in a little suspense too Perfection!

K.C. Brooks has created a world in Saint Stephen’s Lake that I never want to leave. Sadly, this is the last book in the series, but it’s so, so good and I can’t wait to see what K.C. has in store for us next.

Author- K.C. Brooks
Book 4- Saint Stephens Lake series
Rating- solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Genre- accidental drunk marriage in Vegas, second chance romance, Estranged best friends to lovers, it’s always been you, secrets
Trigger warning- mentions of death and blackmail

Because now that Devyn is back in his life, he’s determined to prove that there’s a reason their connection has remained unrivaled all this time.

Blurb:
Devyn Winters is no stranger to pain and heartbreak- the first one starting this domino chain was the sudden death of her father, Peter Winters, followed by David’s (the stepfather) arrival. Life became hell, amplifying every year. The only silver lining was her best friend Gray Anders.

Gray’s dad Curt and Peter were best friends. These two, earlier not. It was only after Peter’s death that they became the best of friends. However, as they grew, so did their friendship, along with their love for each other. Many noticed their young love, including David. It didn’t sit well with him, hence he threatened Devyn, stating that if they got closer, disaster would strike. A young teen, scared and hurt she agreed. Thus their distance grew. What added more to the distance was that they started dating other people, along with college. They never said anything to each other, fearing that they would loose their friendship.

Fast forward to the future when Gray is a rising pitched in the NBL and Devyn is a young lawyer in Manhattan. They cross paths in Las Vegas when they were both there for work. Since they were meeting after years, she spends the evening with him and his team. They eventually get drunk, spill out their feelings for each other and get legally drunk married. However, the next day, after Gray convinces Devyn that it was true and wants the chance, he comes back and says they won’t work, finally shattering her heart forever. He let her go.

5 years later, at Calla’s dinner, at St. Stephens Lake, her ex- Jack comes and causes a scene, threatening her. Gray seeing all red punches him and blurters out “My Wife”, thus revealing their secret drunk marriage. Upset, Devyn heads back to the city. There also more trouble- she gets fired. Her boss was under her stepdad’s control. (That man was clearly obsessed with having the 3 sisters under his control.) Also, her secret investigations into David revealed that it has some ties back home. Out of job and with her investigation’s latest clue, she decided to move back temporarily and stays at Calla’s place.

Gray finds out that she’s home, at Calla and Theo’s place. Determined to get her back and believing there is still hope for them, he gets her to stay at the cabin he owned. They are still tense with each other but work out on easing the tension, slowly bringing down the walls built, brick by brick. But, the hurt runs deep. There is a giant wall of secrets between them. Hence one step forward, several step back. They miss the friendship they had.

Only when they get snowed in at the cabin and they are stuck together they finally reveal the secrets they hid. Not all that meets the eye is complete thing. There is always something running deep. Apparently, Gray was also investigating into David, along with Laurel, Devyn’s eldest sister. She was also blackmailed, hence she played into his games to keep the girls safe, the main reason why Gray had to let go of Devyn after years of longing. Together, they get close to justice. Also, Devyn and Gray let go of all the anger, hurt and secrets between them and look forward to their freedom. Alas, the final stroke to tear them apart is struck.

The question lies- do they break it or make it? Does their love stand Unrivalled?

Opinion:
I love this book!! I love KC Brooks books with my whole heart!! One of the best small town series, highly recommended.

My soul was in great pain during the first chapters, especially during the flashback chapters and regret and sad moments. It slowly recovered along with their relation. I wanted to teleport myself into the book and hug Devyn, she deserves a tight hug with the words- it’s gonna be all fine. Both she and Grey have been through a lot and deserve a tight hug and resounding words. He’s a good man, son and husband. He said he would do anything for his loved ones and he proved it time and time. Devyn, his Ace has a heart of gold, a strong one hidden underneath her reserved personality which became aloof and cold due to the constant hurt in her life.

They think they are completely different, but they have one thing is common- their love for their loved ones, so strong that they will do the most difficult thing to safeguard them.
The phrase “Ace of Hearts” stole my heart. I still swoon over it!!

Certain lines were soul touching. The best one being- All love stories end- said by Martha, his mom. That was the most realistic line. Let’s be honest, the book life and real life are different, they can never be 100% same.

I got pissed with Calla and Laurel for hindering their relation. Calla because she told Gray long time back that Devny had a crush on his friend when in reality it was him. And Laurel because she told Gray to let Devyn go 5 years ago, after they got married. But bygones be bygones. Also, I feel bad for Laurel, she completely hid her pain and changed for the sake of her sisters, Eldest Child Syndrome. Two sisters got their story, here’s to hoping that Laurel gets her’s too.

Well, they got their HEA, their love indeed stood unrivalled all along. If its true, its meant to be, no matter what.

OH I have been WAITING for Devyn and Gray's story since book 2! Then there was THAT ENDING of book 3 that left me screaming WHAT and YES at the same time-- I NEEDED this book. I had so many questions over this series and (Un)Rivaled wrapped it up nicely for me. I'm going to miss Saint Stephen's Lake but maybe we'll see them again? Hopefully?

I really liked Devyn. I wasn't sure about her after Calla's story, but I'm so glad we got to get to know her on a deeper level. The flashbacks in this book were amazing and so insightful to soooo much, not only giving us answers to why Devyn and Gray went from best friends to "enemies" but what makes Devyn tick the say she does. It made me hate David, her stepfather, on a stronger level than I already did- like I HATE that man. But back to Devyn, I loved seeing the softer side of her here.

Gray- Oh Gray. I already knew I'd love you but this sealed the deal. First, your tattoos.... and not just any tattoo. No, every single tattoo is representative of Devyn, even after you all stopped talking. I CANNOT. Talk about SWOON. I know what you did was to protect her, but my heart broke for the two of you. I'm so glad this was a second chance story. It was everything. I also love how much you put everyone else- like your parents, first. It shows the man you are.

Family dynamics were a huge part of this story. The Winters sisters' relationships, Devyn/Gray, Gray/parents, Winter sisters/mom. I was here for all of it. One of the things that I've been looking forward to so much was David getting his comeuppance. It was time! But K.C., I have one question- why did he hate Gray so much? The suspense at the end was a nice, and unexpected touch in this romance book! Sigh, I just love these characters so much!

Review To Follow …

Devyn and Grayson’s story was chaotic to say the least. Ever heard of right person wrong time? Their timing was off every time .. Both completely in love with each other but both have their own reasons for not perusing it . For Grayson , his main focus was protecting his wife , whereas Devyn felt betrayed by him and used anger and resentment to cloud any love she had for him ..

This was written in dual POV , dual timelines and interconnected with the rest of the books in the series. I did enjoy the side characters , especially Graysons parents , their love and story was beautiful but bittersweet.

The reason for my rating -

Issues with consistency- Grayson was described in the prologue as having long dark blonde hair , Further in the pages it’s described as long and wavy .. but in the cover it’s dark brown and short

Going back to the past was a great way for us readers to understand their intense connection but the ages they were at didn’t match the words used . It wasn’t realistic at all and at times made me cringe. I could cope with one of them being wiser and mature for their ages but having a group of 16 years olds say stuff like “ tell him before it’s too late “ even words like that at the age of 9.. it felt weird .

There was so much going on in the first part - no pacing , thrown drama after the other with no gap . I will admit I was close to DNF’’ing. Although their story was decent , the writing wasn’t for me . The whole build up felt a little underwhelming especially how the ending was rushed

Personally, this book wasn’t for me which is a shame considering the synopsis had me running to sign up ! But If you’re looking for a small town romance, that has likeable characters with heaps of angst, suspense and emotion .. then this book would be perfect for you!

(Un) Rivaled by K.C. Brooks

5/5

K.C. Brooks does it yet again! This is the last novel in the Saint Stephens Lake series and I'm so sad that it's over 😭

This last installment may be one of my favorites but I think I say that about all of them. Also love that they take place in upstate, NY because that where I'm from!

Gray and Devyn were childhood best friends that lost touch. As adults they reconnect and accidentally get married! Now Devyn wants nothing to do with Gray until they both find themselves back in their hometown. This book not only has great romance, banter, and will they won't they energy, but it also includes suspense. K.C. does an amazing job merging the two genres. It was so fun seeing where all the other couples from the first 3 books were at in their lives as well. A well written conclusion to an outstanding series.

Accidental marriage is such a great trope and add in childhood best friends on top of that and I am sold.

These two had so much tension and watching them both fall apart was sweet and hot. I will say one this I hated the most was the whole not talking thing. If they talked like years prior all of the heartache could have been avoided.

The mystery and suspense was a nice addition. I loved the Alzheimer's representation and all the feelings and emotion that went along with it.

This was a first read from this author but I'm sure I will be reading more!

This is the last book in the Saint Stephens Lake series and it just might be my favorite! Give me accidental marriage and add in some romantic suspense and I just eat that up.
Devyn & Gray are childhood best friends that always had feelings for each other but could never get the timing right. I loved the dual timeline and POV so you got to see how their friendship formed and also what caused them to have a huge falling out. Right before their fallout, a drunken night in leads to a wedding in Vegas. 5 years later, Devyn finds herself jobless and has to move back to her hometown. Gray sees this as his opportunity to win his best friend and wife back.
I absolutely loved this and couldn’t put it down. The banter and tension was hot! This was the perfect ending to the series and I can’t wait to see what’s next!

27 pages in and I’m crying. Dear goodness my heart. Devyn is a girl after my own heart. She spent her whole life protecting everyone she loves. Being the strong one. I truly felt connected to her on a personal level. It hurts my heart that she doesn’t ever truly feel good enough.

Devyn and Grayson are so cute. Grayson is so protective of his girl. David is the literal worst. The thriller aspect to the story, OBSESSED!

I really loved this book so much....like A LOT! Thank you so much for letting me be an ARC reader for your book.

MY WIFE
This was a fun read. I enjoyed this second chance romance. I was only a month in and was like "no they did not!" and "but why?!". I really enjoyed the mystery in it. I liked that they cared for each other but they were also by the same purpose without realizing it.
You follow Grayson, a former athlete, and Devyn, who is a lawyer. They were best friends growing up and slowly drifted apart. They get brought back by unexpected events. It was fun seeing them bickering and trying to fight the connection.
These characters had so much depth to them. Their battles didn't create a road block or had them hitting rock bottom. Their communication skills also improved 🤣

Devyn Winters' life is crumbling, leaving her no choice but to return home, where her former best friend and accidental husband, Gray, still lives. Determined to earn back her trust, Gray refuses to give up on her, but Devyn is wary of risking her heart again. As buried secrets surface, Gray finally opens up, forcing them to navigate both their past and the dangers ahead. Their journey is gripping, with each revelation pulling me in deeper. If you love romantic suspense, this is a must read!

Struggled to read through this book. This seemed like it should have been more of a novella. Plot seemed like it was one book to start and then morphed into a different story at 70%. Confusing. 🫤 Had a problem with the MMC, he seemed like two different people and I couldn't reconcile the two sides, they never meshed for me. There were parts I really enjoyed but not enough of them to give it more than 2 stars

Another trip to Saint Stephens Lake is exactly what I needed!

-Second Chance
-Accidental Marriage
-Childhood Friends to lovers
-Small Town

Waking up next to your best friend after getting married in Vegas, calling it a mistake and hiding it for years. That is until it can no longer be hidden. Grayson & Devyn learn to rebuild their relationship after so long being apart. They learn to trust each other and finally open up. Once the guard come down, it is truly beautiful to read. The way Gray is always there to show Devyn that he isn't going anywhere makes you swoon.

The romance, the suspense, the spice was a beautiful combination!

Thank you K.C Brooks for the ARC opportunity!

Five stars, what a smash.
No notes! I was hooked at the end of book three when he dropped "MY WIFE," and that's really all she wrote!

KC's writing is always such a joy to read, and Gray and Devyn were no different. I loved them, and I will miss this series, but I can't wait to see what comes next!

K.C. Brooks you’ve delivered yet again another amazing book and I’m so grateful to have been given the opportunity to arc read for you.

If there’s one thing I love it’s romance books but then add some suspense into it and it’s just SPECTACULAR ✨ this book kept me on the edge of my seat, every time I said I’ll just read “one more chapter” I just ended up staying awake all night 🙈

This book was one emotional rollercoaster, for Devyn because of the loss of her father and Grayson because of his father’s Alzheimer’s, made me tear up a lot. They both have gone through so much and I loved how their love for each other rekindled into something so beautiful.

Grayson, cares so much for his loved ones, he’s such a kind and loving person - always there for others. Devyn, although she may be seen as the tough, grumpy person she’s just gone through a lot and hiding her emotions was just easier for her. But deep down she as well is a woman who loves so fiercely, after all she is Grayson’s Ace 🥹

That phrase “Ace of hearts” is just so beautiful and the story behind it is even more 😭

Once again K.C. Brooks thank you for giving me the chance to arc read in exchange for a honest review 🫶🏻

Gray as an MMC was still okay, and I liked him. Just maybe not when he dated Devyn's younger sister while he was clearly in love with Devyn. But I can still chalk that up to him being a dumb teenager. Also, I get that he had to retire from baseball to take care of his father, but we don't get much, if any, insight into what his life was like as a baseball player. There were some glimpses, but not enough to paint a clear picture, so the ending and him landing a job as a coach also seemed very out of the blue, given there was no indication of any sort of that being a possibility.

Devyn wasn't really a likable character for me personally. It was said that she could come off as cold and detached but was just shy or cautious, but that really didn't seem to be the case with her. I get why she had to keep Gray at a distance, but she wasn't very firm on it because she didn't stop being his friend but also just tried to keep him at a distance any time things got a little too close to them crossing the line of friendship. That way her behavior was quite inconsistent.

There were flashback scenes that showed how Gray and Devyn went from being enemies to best friends to strangers again over the years. However, Devyn and Gray's relationship/friendship just didn't seem to add up for me right from the start. It just felt sort of forced, and I didn't get any sort of best friends vibe from them at all. There was always some sort of misunderstanding going on between them throughout the years, which led to them randomly being distant with each other for extended periods of time and then having weird, awkward conversations when they crossed paths, but to the world, they kept saying they were best friends. Personally, they didn't behave like how best friends would.

Also, Gray dating Calla in that context just gave me the ick because he was clearly in love with Devyn while he was dating Calla. The whole part where Devyn gets jealous of her own sister dating her best friend after SHE gave her the permission to date him was just not done for me.

The way Gray was okay to leave his then girlfriend Calla at the bar to go after Devyn just because she seemed upset was not okay with me either. Also, they were both teens, but the kind of conversation they had didn't match their age and seemed far too mature for a 15-16-year-old.

This is the first book I'm reading in the series, so I don't know what kind of interaction Gray and Devyn have throughout the other books, but the five-year jump after that prologue wasn't what I was expecting. They get married in Vegas, and then it's cut to five years later. And though we get flashback scenes of their relationship growing up until then, we don't get any insight into what they were like together during those five years and if there was any interaction at all. And Gray being a baseball star at the time, with his team being present for the wedding, how did this news never come out?

Once they did come clean about everything that happened in the past years and revealed all their secrets, their relationship felt better after that. That was the first time the two truly felt like a team for me, and they worked really well together. I feel like all the secrets they'd kept for so many years only to protect the other just made their relationship/friendship seem too unreal and strained for me to connect with them.

It felt like a lot was going on, and the pacing seemed kind of off, with the flashback scenes giving us the backstory for Gray and Devyn, then cutting to the present and how both had secrets from each other and were navigating their new reality, plus the suspense plot around Tom. Then there was also the random involvement of Jake in the midst of all this chaos, which I didn't have much context about. Maybe there was more to Jake in the previous books, but I didn't entirely understand his reasoning for doing what he did to Devyn to get back at Tom. That plot just came out of nowhere.

I did enjoy the suspense part of the book revolving around Tom and how Gray and Devyn tried to figure out the missing pieces of what he was up to along with the help of others. I wish that part had been given more attention throughout the book, because how it all wrapped up at the end left me with a lot of questions.

Some aspects seemed to be left unresolved. Like, what was the resolution Gray and Martha came to regarding Curt's condition and care? Did they ever reach out to Devyn's mom to get him into any trials? The whole reason behind Gray quitting his career as a pro baseball player was because he needed to take care of his dad, but that part was just left unresolved. I didn't get any insight into Devyn's relationship with her mother or sisters, for that matter.

I truly loved the relationship between Martha and Curt, and knowing Curt's current situation made me tear up. Their love is just so pure and the kind you wish for.

I'm hoping the next book is about Laurel and Thomas because there seems to be something there, and they would make quite the pair.

Thank you to K. C. Brooks for providing me with the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

(Un)Rivaled by KC Brooks is an emotionally charged second-chance romance that brings readers back to St. Stephens Lake for a final, unforgettable love story. With a mix of childhood friendship, unresolved tension, and the weight of past trauma, Devyn Winters and Grayson Anders' journey is both heartbreaking and deeply satisfying. Devyn Winters is known for being sharp, guarded, and grumpy—qualities she’s honed to survive the cutthroat world of corporate law. She has worked relentlessly to climb to the top, but when she’s unexpectedly fired, she’s forced to return to her hometown, a place filled with memories she’d rather forget. The last thing she expects is to come face-to-face with Grayson Anders—the boy who was once her best friend, the man who secretly married her in Vegas, and the person who shattered her heart. Grayson Anders was once a rising star in Major League Baseball, but life had other plans. When his father’s battle with Alzheimer’s worsens, Grayson leaves behind his career to return home and help his mother run the family bar. Unlike Devyn, he’s the town golden boy, loved by everyone, always putting others first. But beneath his easy going nature is a man who has lost his passion for the game—and the one woman he never stopped loving. Now, back in St. Stephens Lake, Grayson offers Devyn a place to stay while she figures out her next move. As they spend time together, their old banter returns, their chemistry reignites, and the walls between them start to crumble. But Devyn has her own battle to fight—she’s been quietly working to bring down her corrupt former stepfather, the man responsible for the pain and trauma of her childhood. When her past catches up with her in a dangerous way, Grayson refuses to let history repeat itself. He lost Devyn once, and he won’t lose her again.

Devyn is a deeply relatable character, shaped by hardship and resilience. She carries the scars of her past, not just physically but emotionally, and has spent her life trying to protect those she loves—even if it means shutting people out. Her strength is admirable, but it’s her vulnerability that makes her truly compelling. Grayson, on the other hand, is the perfect counterbalance to Devyn’s hardened exterior. He’s the kind of man who puts his family first, who would give up everything for the people he loves. His struggle with losing his passion for baseball is one that many athletes face—when the game no longer feels the same, when the pressure outweighs the joy. His journey is not just about rekindling love, but also about finding purpose beyond the sport that once defined him.

In conclusion, I gave this book 5 stars, as (Un) Rivaled is a beautifully written story about finding your way back to the person you were always meant to be with. It’s about love that withstands time, about healing old wounds, and about realizing that sometimes, the best things in life come full circle. KC Brooks delivers a heartwarming and deeply emotional conclusion to the St. Stephens Lake series, leaving readers with the perfect blend of romance, suspense, and small-town charm.

I’ve been so excited about this story, but sad at the same time since (I think) it’s our last book in the Saint Stephen’s Lake series! But it lived up to my hopes for sure and I loved Devyn and Gray.

Devyn has always come across as a cold, but I had a feeling that she was actually so kind and caring underneath her harsh exterior–and she definitely was so sweet and kind, she just only showed that side to a few people in her life. I admired Devyn’s strength and tenacity so much, and it was great to see her slowly open herself up to Grayson again during this story. I loved their friendship, and it was great to see the flashbacks to that a few times. It was hard to watch them grow apart because of outside influences, but I loved watching them find their way back to each other because Devyn deserved so much happiness in her life. Devyn and Calla’s relationship was amazing, too; seeing their sisterly bond made me smile so much, especially because Calla was one of the few people who got to see Devyn’s sweet side.

Grayson Anders was a tattooed former baseball player with a man bun and it made me drool! Okay, it made Devyn drool, too, even when she wanted to be closed off to it. I loved that Gray had realized the mistakes he made with Devyn in the past, and was determined to make up for his mistakes during this story. It was great to see him take things at Devyn’s pace at first, but I also appreciated when he decided that enough was enough and he was ready to push her a bit so that he could earn her trust back. Gray had a secret filthy mouth that added more drool to the puddle I already had formed because of him! Gray and Devyn’s relationship was hard at times, but I like that they were determined to work through it to get back to their friendship and, eventually, to form a new relationship as lovers.

This was such a great addition to the Saint Steven’s Lake series! While we didn’t see much of the previous couples, we did get a few glimpses here and there and it was great to see them again. I love the added touch of mystery in this story, too! It was great to see Devyn and Gray story, their way back to each other throughout this story and their relationship made me smile. If you’re looking for a small town romance with a bit of mystery, check this one out!

Tropes:
✨ Second Chance Romance
✨ Accidental Marriage
✨ Small Town Romance
✨ Grief & Mental Health Rep

Devyn Winters and Grayson Anders have been best friends for as long as they can remember. As their friendship grew, they both developed feelings for each other but never said anything. Due to Devyn’s terrible stepfather, she could never act on those feelings. And one drunken night in Vegas turned her life upside down — her and Grayson got married.

After five years of blood, sweat, and tears at a corporate law firm, she gets fired and her life turns upside down even more. Not having anywhere else to go, Devyn moves back to her childhood home, where he estranged husband is living. But little does everyone know that Devyn has been doing an investigation of her own on her step father, and she doesn’t plan to stop.

Once back home, she stumbles upon secret after secret, and her husband is there every step of the way to help her. But these secrets could cost her life. Now Devyn and Grayson must not only relearn everything about each other to save their marriage, but also tread carefully in this investigation.

Okay so this is my second book I’ve read by K.C. Brooks and this is by far my favorite book by her. I devoured this book and read it in less than 24 hours.

My favorite thing about this book was all the flashbacks. You get to see how Grayson and Devyn were through their childhood, and how close they were. But not only that, you got a sense on how terrible her stepdad truly was.

Grayson is the absolutely sweetest guy ever. He cares so deeply for Devyn and will do whatever it takes to keep her safe. Devyn is the most stubborn woman, but you understand why. And when she knows the true reason why everything went down they way it did, she finally lets down her walls and let me tell you it’s a sight to see. After everything they both went through, I was so happy they got their HEA because I don’t think there are two more deserving characters than the two of them.

That twist towards the end threw me for a loop because I was not expecting it at all. I had to literally pick my jaw up off the floor. If you love romantic suspenses, you seriously need to read this book.

When I say I couldn’t wait for this story to be released, I mean it! From the end of (Un)Spoken, I knew KC was going to deliver Grayson and Devyn’s story! I could not put this book down, nor did I want to. This entire series is a must read and highlights KC’s ability to bring characters to life. Each character she writes, I find myself relating to and connecting with. The fourth book in the Saint Stephens Lake series brings all of my favorite characters together again, while introducing new ones that are just as easy to love.

The dual timeline was a must for this book! Since Gray and Dev have known each other for so long, there is more history than any other couple in this series. Getting to know them as kids and then adults is a must to be able to fully understand their story and romance. KC writes the dual timelines beautifully, each having their own voices, but coming together to paint a very vivid, full picture.

As they become older and life becomes more, they find themselves dealing with said life in their own way. Life takes them each down their own path, but their story isn’t done yet and their paths intersect often. I loved watching them find each other again and fall into each other again. I also loved getting to know Dev and Gray more throughout this story. They have been side characters in the other three and it was their time, finally!

KC, I will read anything you write and most likely, will love it! This series was fun, deep, and dynamic as each couple had their story told. If you love romance, with a bit of drama, a lot of tension, and spice that hits hard, KC is an author for you! I can’t wait to see what is next for KC, but these characters will live rent free in my heart for a long time!

As always, review any author notes before reading.

Devyn Winters is a focused, career driven woman who doesn’t have time for relationships. She learned a long time ago that loving someone doesn’t mean they’ll always be there. So how is that she has an accidental husband the refuses the sign divorce papers?

Grayson Anders is a professional pitcher that has one crazy night in Vegas and winds up married to his best friend and love of his life. That was 5 years ago, and though they have been married only on paper, she still holds his heart. Now that she is back in their small town, Grayson is determined to get her back.

Devyn and Grayson’s story was so much fun to read. The dual timelines that give you insight to their past as their story unfolds is a perfect way to see how they came to love each other. From their childhood through the difficult teenage years to a wild Vegas wedding and finally to the start of this story, both characters have a love for each other that can’t be broken. I loved that Devyn is a character that guards her heart so fiercely and that Grayson is the only one who has ever been able to see through that. Their story takes you on a roller coaster of emotions that range from longing to heartbreak to deep love.

I was expecting your usual type of childhood love, second chance romance, but I was wrong. Not only was there every element you could ever want from those tropes but there is also suspense and intrigue as well. I think I loved this story because it brought a lot of my favorite things together second chances, forced proximity, a narcissistic bad guy that needs to be stopped, and a group of strong characters willing to stand up and fight.

If you’re looking for a heartwarming love story that includes suspense and a fight for justice, this is definitely one you need to grab!

Unrivaled was my first book from this author, and what a great book it was! This story was an absolute delight. It was cute and fun and the perfect read for a good time.

I’m a sucker for a good accidental Vegas marriage trope, and tying it in with a childhood friends to lovers twist made this one even better! Devyn and Grayson’s journey was packed with emotion, growth, and undeniable chemistry. Both characters had so much to overcome, especially Devyn, and the way they met each other with understanding and love to help navigate their struggles was incredibly sweet and fulfilling.

The added layer of mystery and suspense kept me hooked, adding a fresh dynamic to the romance. It was unexpected but so well written that it enhanced the story rather than overshadowing the emotional depth. The second half of the book had me completely on edge, making it more than just a romance. It was an emotional rollercoaster with plenty of surprises along the way.

Gray and Devyn’s relationship is full of angst, longing, and the kind of slow burn romance that feels entirely earned. Watching them navigate their emotions and come back together was so satisfying, especially once they let their guards down and started truly communicating.

K.C. Brooks has crafted such a fun and intriguing world in Saint Stephen’s Lake, and I never wanted to leave. It’s bittersweet knowing this is the last book in the series, but what a way to end it! Devyn and Gray’s story is packed with so much heart, emotion, and authenticity that it lingers long after finishing.

If you love deeply emotional second chance romances with just the right amount of tension, tenderness, and spice, Unrivaled is perfect for you, and the entire series is one you should check out. I’ll definitely be adding more of K.C. Brooks' books to my TBR!

Thank you to K.C. Brooks for the eARC of this book.

My goodness. K.C. Brooks gets me in my feelings every single time, and I love that about her writing. This special small town she's created in Saint Stephen's Lake lets me get lost in the story and the characters and I never want it to end. I've loved every book in this series and have become so fond of this group of found family and friends.

Devyn and Grayson were inseperable childhood friends, and as they grew up fell madly in love with one another. A drunken night in Vegas leads to an accidental marriage, and then their relationship is over. Their love for each other was never going to waiver though, and the future had other plans for these two.

Devyn goes on to be a lawyer and Grayson goes on to be a MLB star. Life happens and they both find themselves back in Saint Stephens Lake, her after her life falls apart, and him after walking away from his career to be there for his family when they needed him. Grayson was the emotionally capable man that woman wish for. The "my wife" vibe will have you swooning so hard. That man loved Devyn, and was the only one capable of tearing her walls down. He was a man on a mission and that mission was getting his wife back.

The past and present timelines shed so much light on their relationship and how much they truly loved one another and were meant to be together. Their journey was an emotional but beautiful story of unconditional love, forgiveness and knowing who your person is through all the outside chatter and whatever challenges life throws at you.

The mystery and suspense added to the plot in such an intriguing way and will have you so invested in the outcome that you will both want to know what happens, but not want the story to end at the same time.

I'm so sad to leave Saint Stephen's Lake but also excited to see what K.C. Brooks has for us next.

𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐑𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠: 4.0 ⭐
𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥: 2.0 🌶️

(𝐔𝐍)𝐑𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐝 was a great read. I was so excited to read this one and it gave me all of the feels! Here are just some of the things I loved about this book. First, I want to thank K.C. Brooks for the Alzheimer’s disease rep in this book. As a person who lived with someone who was in the later stages of this terrible disease, I felt seen and understood. I really appreciate the care the author took in approaching this topic. The difficulty of seeing your loved one forget who you are is so hard to live with and K.C. Brooks perfectly captured this in the story.

I also really loved the way the author told Grayson (MMC) and Devyn (FMC) story using dual timelines. I am finding that I really love this way of storytelling. It allows the reader to see, and not just be told that these two people were best friends since childhood who went through so much together and then after life tore them apart, we are watching them come back together again. The beauty of seeing this for yourself as a reader really helps in seeing the chemistry and the love between the characters and makes the story so much more enjoyable. Grayson and Devyn went through the ringer and life certainly gave them lemons, but they decided to make lemonade with those lemons, and they persevered. I was happy to have witnessed their love story.

I absolutely loved (𝐔𝐍)𝐑𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐝. From the friend circle and how they supported this couple, to the mystery as it relates to Devyn’s stepfather, to the way Grayson loved and took care of my girl (i.e. the tattoos and the meaning behind them, and the spice (this one was spicy y’all))…my goodness!

I would definitely recommend this read.

Received as an ARC.

❄️ Small Town Romance
❄️ Second Chance
❄️ Accidental Marriage
❄️ Childhood Best Friends
❄️ Forced Proximity
❄️ Romantic Suspense

If you’re in the mood for a wild ride full of past mistakes, unresolved feelings, and just the right amount of chaos, Unrivaled delivers. Devyn, a fiercely ambitious lawyer, has her carefully curated life flipped upside down when her accidental Vegas marriage to Grayson comes back to haunt her, right as her career hits the rocks. The prologue wastes no time, throwing you straight into a drunken wedding, complete with amnesia, and setting the stage for years of simmering tension. Buckle up, because it’s a lot.

The story dives deep into heavy themes like family loyalty, childhood trauma, and the messy power of first love. And if that’s not enough to keep your heart in a twist, there’s even a playlist woven into the narrative that hints at all the emotional gut punches ahead. Bonus points for the author’s note that gives a heads up on sensitive topics, always appreciated when a story ventures into deeper emotional territory.

That said, Unrivaled isn’t afraid to lean into some well-worn tropes, which might feel a little too familiar for some readers. The characters? Oh, they’re flawed, beautifully, frustratingly flawed, which makes their journey both captivating and occasionally maddening. Devyn and Grayson’s path to confronting their past and untangling years of emotional baggage is a bumpy one, and whether they actually get it together will make or break the story’s payoff.

In the end, Unrivaled promises a rollercoaster of second chances and self discovery. If you’re ready for a bit of drama, a lot of heart, and a sprinkle of chaos, this one’s worth the ride.

When Devyn Winters' world falls apart, she's left with no other option than to return home to Saint Stephen's Lake. She feels like it is a mistake and that's verified when she is confronted by Grayson Anders: her former best friend, former love, and accidental husband. While dealing with his own personal issues, Gray is stunned to see his estranged wife in town again and he has made his goal clear: to earn back Devyn's trust.

K.C. Brooks doesn't disappoint in the fourth book of the Saint Stephen's Lake series which explores the story of Devyn and Grayson. Devyn is an amazing character; complex in relatable ways as she dedicates herself to her father's legacy as well as her family and friends. She has endured an emotional storm growing up that left her strong, but hardened as she returned to Saint Stephen's Lake. It was wonderful to see herself open up to Gray. Speaking of, Gray is so devoted to Devyn, by taking anything he can to get to know her once again. Built with a big, protective and steadfast heart for his family and those close to him, Gray is a strong MMC that Devyn needed in her life and the realization that they need each other. Their chemistry is spectacular and backed by strong storytelling that blended the past and present in order to understand their relationship and root for their happy ending. The mysterious subplot and suspense was a strong addition to keep my interest throughout the story.

The entire Saint Stephen's Lake series feels like coming home and a place that you want to visit in real life with each being so strong with characters and storytelling. Thank you to K.C. Brooks for the opportunity to ARC read this novel!
