WAITTT THIS ONE KINDA KILLED IT?? I love women who get revenge on men that wronged them cause nothing is sweeter than that revenge. 🤭

I really, really enjoyed our FMC of this book, Jessica. She was so badass and didn't take shit from anyone while she carried through with her revenge. A lot of us experienced being so smitten with someone we were supposed to trust and then they do something that just breaks everything; I know I have. Probably not to the extent of insurance fraud cause you'd be in jail, but you get the point. While Jessica was by no means innocent in this book (and it's made very clear throughout the story), I like the perspective of the female empowerment of not letting someone get away with wronging you. She was smart and persistent and just overall brilliant in the way she went about making and executing her plans.

Just the premise of the plot with this book was enough to draw me in. However, there were so many other plot twists and turns that just had me hooked from the very beginning. This book was fast and engaging and so twisty. Conning the con-man who sent her to fail for years? YES oh my god I was sat. This was yet another random audible find, but here we are again with it absolutely delivering. I also really enjoyed the jumps from present to past of her being in jail and making a new friend who changed her life. It just made the story all come together by the end without leaving any, or at least mostly any, plot holes and questions. It was just a fun and enjoyable ride.

Overall, I never know what to expect when I find random audiobooks, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one! It was so fast and fun and didn't take itself too seriously. I think it'd be a perfect palette cleanser if you need something short to break up some heavier reads, but honestly I'd recommend this even if you just want something to put on in the background. The author did a great job of including very easy to digest information while at the same time making it entertaining. Definitely enjoyed this one!

I really enjoyed the story! But, the added sounds were distracting because they weren't consistent. Occasionally, there was a car noise or a paper crinkling, and it was more startling than adding to the story.

Entertaining enough for a pallet cleanser, but the story was very basic.

Everything was too convenient, and while I'm glad Jessica got her revenge, it honestly just didn't feel satisfying to me.

The story while fun, was both simplistic and unrealistic with way too many plot holes.

I liked the narrator's Voice but wasn't a fan of the added sound effects as they were inconsistent and jarring.

The story had potential but kinda fell flat, however it's a good listen if you don't wanna think too hard.

Enjoyable listen, normally I despise timeline jumping as a cheap way to keep you engaged, but the author did a tremendous job and I really enjoyed the characters and the story.

I really hoped this would be more than what it was, but honestly, it’s just an average audiobook for me. On the positive side, I really liked that the story stayed in a single POV, and watching the FMC get her revenge was satisfying, but the execution just felt like nothing special. The FMC got lucky a lot throughout the book, and even though she successfully pulled off her revenge and had some character development, she did a lot of illegal things to get there. For me, conning the con man—even if he is her awful husband—doesn't exactly scream great character growth.

The writing style is simple and easy to follow, which made it a great background listen while I was multi-tasking and getting things done around the house. It's nothing complicated, so if you're looking for a low-maintenance, light revenge thriller that doesn't require a ton of deep focus, you might enjoy listening to this one. Ultimately, it was just okay for me, a decent filler listen, but not one that's going to stick with me.

The audiobook "The Smart Girl's Guide to Revenge" by Jessica May Harper is an engaging, witty, and clever mystery thriller featuring a con artist and dark humor, centered around a strong female lead and outstanding narration.

This book was truly brilliant and clever, and oh my, it was so delightful! I relished every moment of it! It's an engaging, very interesting, and gripping story that captivated me from the very first minute! I seriously couldn't stop listening!

The narration by Kaya Scodelario was exactly what you hope for in a perfect audiobook! The sound effects added an extra layer to the experience. And the main character? I completely fell in love with her! Jessica, the strong female protagonist, embarks on a satisfying journey of revenge, allowing us to appreciate the story's emphasis on her redemption and intricate plan for justice.

The narrative unfolds from both past and present perspectives, enabling us to enjoy the revenge tale while uncovering more about the origins and backgrounds of both characters, giving us a better understanding of her emotions.

The story kicks off with Jessica being released from prison, where she served time after taking the blame for an insurance fraud scheme she devised with her husband, Jimmy Lake. To her astonishment, she learns that Jimmy had been deceiving her all along, leaving her incarcerated and broke while he roamed free.
With a singular determination for justice, Jessica devises a complex and wicked plan for revenge against the one who betrayed her.

I wasn’t sure after reading the blurb but I love Kaya so gave it a go.
Some actors “over act” audiobooks but Kaya was perfect.

I loved the idea of women scorned finally getting their own back. The idea that they found their “ride or die” partners, even if it was in jail.

I hope a part two comes out. I want to see what Avril has up her sleeve.

3🌟 (Audible Plus Catalog)

Short + sweet. Exactly as revenge should be!

Side note to Audible: if you're going to include background noises (phone ringing, papers shuffling, etc), either do a full production or don't waste the reader's time with random noises that do nothing for the story.

3.8 stars 🌟 A lighthearted revenge story, I love the moral o the story. I quite enjoyed it, but I’d love it more if there was less content on Jessica’s obsession over Jamie, but I guess it probably rings true to people who have been in toxic relationships, I’ve never been in one, I found that part a bit repetitive thus annoying.

I would say this is more of a 3.75. I did it on Audible and the reader was absolutely perfect for the book. The storyline was pretty predictable. I kind of guess what the ending would be very early on and it did end the way I thought it would, but it still was super enjoyable. It’s a nice short read of just something is like a pallet cleanser kind of book about revenge

It was okay. I felt it was a little slow and just didn’t seem that interesting. Yea, she did her revenge. But the back and forth from prison to current life seemed that it didn’t help much with the story.

3.5 stars. This was a bit different for an Audible Original. There was way less production, but the story was better overall than others I’ve listened to. I loved how it got straight into the revenge plot without a ton of build up or back story. I enjoyed the protagonist, Jessica, and her friend from prison, Avril. While the plot focuses on Jessica’s revenge against her con-man husband who let her take the fall for insurance fraud, it also heavily deals with morality and making amends. It’s pretty short so the story was a little predictable and too easily wrapped up, but I liked the optimistic ending.

Such a cute book, well written and good story line. Loved how it played out. If you enjoy a good murder mystery with a slight twist then you'll love this cutsy murder mystery. It all ties up nice in the end and just has an overall good feel. Will definitely be looking for more titles from this author.

It’s been a long time since I tried an Audible Original, but a friend recommended this one, so I listened to it. It was… okay. Sort of interesting story, hardly a likable character in the whole book except for the ones these two dirt bags scammed. Nevertheless, even though the main character pissed me off, her husband pissed me off even more, and it was a satisfying ending after all.

Love a good revenge, and love when it's a smart women getting it.

I also loved the subtle sound effects - at first I thought my phone was giving me a notification alert I had never heard before, and then I realized. Few and far between - they added just the right amount of accentuation to the story. Fun stuff. :)
