An out-of-work actress and her best friend’s brother enter into a marriage of convenience—only to inconveniently fall for each other—in this spicy small town romance from the author of Rare Blend and Double Barrel.
He’s after a house. She’s the key to getting it.
Scotland “Scottie” James swore she’d never end up back in her small hometown. But with acting gigs drying up and the city spitting her out, Red Mountain is the only place to go—and the last place she wanted to be. Taking a job at her parents’ real estate firm is meant to be a detour on her way back to the stage. But when she’s asked to help her best friend’s older brother find a lake house, she accidentally lands her biggest acting role yet: Gavin Ledger’s wife.
For Gavin Ledger, winemaker and devoted single dad, life revolves around his daughter. The perfect lake house could help her feel closer to the mother she’ll never know—but there’s one problem: the seller will only sell to a married couple. His solution? The one woman guaranteed to test his patience. Scottie is dramatic, glamorous, and nothing like the steady, quiet life he’s built, yet being her husband—on paper—feels dangerously easy.
The longer they play house, the more it stops feeling like an act. And when the final curtain falls, Scottie will have to decide if chasing her old dream is worth losing the best thing she never saw coming.
Like bottle shock, love can take you by surprise—but the best things in life are often the ones you never planned.

If you live for a man who says “my wife” with his whole chest (real or fake) you’re about to find your next obsession. CLEAR YOUR SCHEDULE RIGHT NOW. 😝 This book is for you.
Bottle Shock honestly felt like settling into a love story I didn’t even realize I’d been craving. There’s something so comforting and intentional about the way everything unfolds. Nothing rushed, nothing chaotic. Just this soft, steady pull between two people who have no idea their whole lives are about to shift. 🤭🤭🤭
Gavin… wow. I fell for him so fast. He’s so calm and grounded in this way that only a man who’s lived, lost, and learned how to love quietly can be. Every single thing he does for Scottie feels so genuine. The moment he pulled that mini fridge out of his bag while they were traveling (just so Scottie would have a place to store her insulin) I knew I was a goner. ✋🏼😩AND he didn’t even make a big deal out of it. He just did it. Like caring for her wasn’t some grand gesture…it was simply who he was. That’s just a little hint and the tip of the iceberg of the kind of man he is. Literally perfect 🫶🏼🫶🏼
And Scottie, she’s honestly the kind of woman I root for with my whole chest. She’s strong in that real, messy way. The way she keeps going even when her ADHD, her diabetes, her career, her confidence (pretty much everything 😭) is working against her. She never gave up on herself, even when life didn’t look anything like she planned. Her journey back home felt so emotional, and watching her slowly let someone take care of her without losing who she is… I adored that.
The fact that they had feelings when they were younger, and both just kind of tucked them away? I love that sort of quiet, almost-forgotten yearning. And seeing it resurface in this unexpected, “wait, maybe it was always supposed to be you” kind of way? Chef’s kiss. 😮💨🤌🏼🤌🏼 I really appreciated that their marriage-of-convenience setup wasn’t cliché or cartoonish. It felt real with stakes that actually mattered. And the way they communicated? Ugh. I could actually scream. No unnecessary drama, no ridiculous breakup, just two adults choosing to show up for each other.
I’ll be honest… yes some grammar and spelling issues pulled me out for a second here and there. But the story itself had so much heart that it absolutely didn’t change how much I loved it.
This book easily became a 5 star for me, and now I’m for sure going back for the first two in the series. And if the next book is Ariana and Cole with a little age gap tension? I’m already clearing my schedule. 🤪🤪

”Scottie has no idea how attractive she is. This woman could wear a paper bag and still outshine everyone else.”
"I can't move on from you. You're all I want. All I think about."
“Maybe it came on fast, but the build was decades in the making. Years of quietly standing back, trying not to want her, going to the furthest corners of the earth to make it go away. None of it mattered. Every road still led back to Scottie.”
"I might just have to keep you." She giggles and then stares at it a bit more before putting on some jewelry to finish off the look. Meanwhile, I'm stuck on her words, even though they were said in jest. Because I'd love nothing more than to be kept by her.”

things to know about the book ↓
🍾 best friends brother 🍾 single dad 🍾 “my wife” energy 🍾 marriage of convenience 🍾 no third act breakup 🍾 dual POV
A huge thank you to Luna Literary & Michelle Naomi Mosley for allowing me to read this arc. These are all my honest opinions in this review.
Marriage of convenience! He's always been obsessed with her from afar! Her best friend's brother! A single, adoring dad! Small-town vibes! All my favorite tropes!? YES! "Bottle Shock" by Michelle Naomi Mosley is great! I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The main characters, Scottie and Gavin, have terrific chemistry with one another, including tons of terrific banter and a lot of steaminess. Gavin is such a good person. He used to be a thrill-seeker, but reformed his ways when he found out he had a daughter named Lily, whose mother died when she was born. Gavin has been the best dad he could be, given the circumstances. He definitely gives "golden retriever" energy. I adore how much he adored his daughter, and how he adored Scottie, too. Scottie has a fiery personality-borderline chaos demon, and has endured a lot in her life. She has diabetes and ADHD. She is also an actress who hasn't been getting consistent work, so she didn't realize her insurance had lapsed and is forced to go without her ADHD medication for some time. In order to get health insurance again, Gavin offers to marry Scottie. Their very real, formerly secret feelings for one another eventually, slowly come out over time, but they keep their relationship a secret from everyone, including Gavin's sister/Scottie's best friend. Shenanigans abound! I'm not quite sure how I feel about the ending, but that might be a me thing. There is A LOT of spice here, and it's not all necessary, but it certainly is hot. I loved the dynamic between Gavin and Lily, as well as the interactions between Lily and Scottie. This book is really good, and I'd love to revisit the other books in the series.
Thank you to Michelle Naomi Mosley and Luna Literary for the complimentary ARC of this book. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this review.
I have been and always will be a big hardcore michelle naomi mosley fan and this book only proved that further!! Bottle Shock is what I can only describe as one of those cozy small town romance reads that slips under your skin from the very first chapter & imbeds itself in your mind, body & soul. Michelle Naomi Mosley blends emotion, tension, and a deep-rooted sense of place into a story that feels both intimate and deeply cinematic. Everything she writes is so easy & comforting. The novel unfolds around the complexities of ambition, love, and loyalty, all set against the intoxicating backdrop of the winery world—where every character is aging, fermenting, or bursting under pressure in their own way. What’s better than drama, wine & who doesn’t love a winemaking daddy with a slutty little thigh tattoo, man bun, the cutest angel of a daughter and wears glasses?
The writing in Bottle Shock is dense but without ever feeling too heavy. The characters are layered, flawed, and achingly human, navigating choices that linger after every page. I found myself savoring the quiet moments just as much as the explosive ones—each scene crafted with intention, each twist earned. I honestly can’t believe how fast I flew through this book - it was THAT good that I stayed up all night to read & just couldn’t put it down. The themes of trust, temptation, and self-discovery are woven so naturally that you don’t even realize how deeply you’ve sunk in until you’re already emotionally invested.
If you love character-driven stories with sharp emotional edges, atmospheric settings, and that perfect blend of heart and tension, Bottle Shock is absolutely worth the read. PLEASE go read it & the others in this series. You WILL NOT regret it because It’s the kind of book that leaves you thinking about the characters long after the final page—and maybe even craving a glass of something full-bodied and complicated.
What to expect in bottle shock: 🤍 Single dad 🤍 Messy, complicated relationships 🤍 Found family 🤍 Secret marriage of convenience 🤍 Forced proximity 🤍 ADHD & Diabetes rep 🤍 Small town winery 🤍 Best friend’s brother 🤍 Slowburn romance with emotional intensity 🤍 Healing from the past
Thank you to Michelle for being amazing & always sorting the best romance novels for me to devour, and for Luna Literary & Michelle’s team for gifting me an arc copy to read & scream about!
Bottle Shock is currently released and everyone needs to go read it asap!! 🤍
This follows Scottie, who has returned to her hometown after an incident forces her acting career to be put on hold. Now she’s back on her parents’ couch, struggling to afford the medication she needs. Life takes an unexpected turn when she crosses paths with her best friend’s brother, Gavin. They both need something from each other and are happy to keep it a secret from friends and family. But will keeping it hidden be enough to stop them from falling for one another?
This book was such an enjoyable read. It made me fall for the characters and root for them in the end. My heart ached for Scottie at the start, but even while she was going through it, her witty, fun responses made me smile. The tension between the FMC and MMC was fantastic their chemistry and shared history was great. Gavin, a committed single dad with barely any time to date, has quietly had his eye on Scottie for a while. Some of the small things he did for her, simply because he remembered the little details, absolutely melted me. He was caring, steady, and knew how to calm her when she needed it. And the spice? Perfection.
There were just a couple of things I want to mention. When Gavin’s daughter instantly knew they were together at the end, it didn’t fully land for me. She’s seven, and for a big chunk of the book she was staying with her grandparents. She was around once or twice, but the FMC stayed in the pool house. I also felt that the timeline jumped a bit at times rather than flowing smoothly days or even weeks would pass. Not a major issue, but noticeable to me who likes a smooth flow.
Overall, it was still a fun, easy read. My first book by this author, and definitely not my last.

Gavin is that DILF, in all senses! I was anxiously awaiting this book ever since I met Gavin in the first book of the series, and it did not disappoint! We follow Gavin, who is Elyse’s older brother, and Scottie, who is Elyse’s best friend. Growing up, Scottie had a crush on him, but he was a few years older. When Scottie comes back to her hometown after issues with her career as an actress, she's set up to help Gavin buy a lake house, though they end up finding out the purchase has terms and conditions.
Gavin was everything I wanted and more - a genius winemaker, nerd glasses and a man bun, slutty thigh tattoo, soft girl-dad energy, and the perfect golden retriever! Scottie didn't fall behind - fierce, badass, resilient, and brave! This was so good and I ate it up in 24 hours!

Heading back to Red Mountain was a treat! This time, it's Gavin's turn and I could not be more excited!
Since finding out about his daughter, Gavin was all in on being the best dad he could be and that means settling in Red Mountain years ago. Scottie is back in town after her acting career appears to hit a roadblock. After a fateful moment where Scottie walks in on Gavin naked, they continue to find themselves in each other's orbits and running into each other. While they had known each other due to Gavin's sister, their feelings take a deeper meaning when they end up fake married to help Scottie for insurance purposes.
Gavin is fantastic. I loved how deeply he cared for those in his life and how he is a literal walking green flag. The way he was able to support Scottie and give her the freedom she needed was fantastic. Scottie, my heart went out to her and everything she had to deal with in Chicago. She is such a strong individual and I loved how Michelle portrayed her reality of diabetes and ADHD. I felt that these moments were so well done.
I also loved how well done the banter was between Scottie and Gavin. There were several moments that had me cackling out loud with glee.
Thank you so much to Michelle for an early copy of Bottle Shock! I am excited to head back to the Ledger family in the future!
Tropes: Single Dad Small Town Fake Marriage/Marriage of Convenience Forced Proximity Best Friend's Brother
This small town series is so good, it’s such a fun, contemporary romance series! I was super excited that the DILF himself Gavin was finally getting his HEA and it was in fact what I predicted at the end of the last book🤭 Gavin and Scottie have such great chemistry and the way these two idiots come together is beyond chaotic, but still beautiful nonetheless😭 I’m going to guess that Ariana’s book might be next with a little forbidden romance, but I’m still waiting for Shane to meet his match too🙂↕️👏
bottle shock is the third installment in the red mountain series and is my favorite so far. you can read this alone, but i think it's more satisfying to read after the first two!
i devoured this. unputdownable. it's been a bit since i have been this invested in a book. i looooved gavin and scottie, watching them fall in love and also grow individually was so satisfying to read. michelle writes top tier banter, tension, and spice and i eat it up every time. they had the best chemistry and you could feel it on every page.
this had everything i love in a romance (single dad, marriage of convenience, best friend's brother) but was so much more than i could have even imagined. i had the best time and i am sad it's over but it was so worth the wait! definitely recommend!
thank you to michelle naomi mosley and luna literary for the early copy!
Wow. Just wow. I got my ARC of Bottle Shock this morning and immediately opened the link and started reading, zero hesitation. I DEVOURED this book. I’ve been waiting for this one since finishing Rare Blend and Double Barrel because I loved those two so much, and honestly, calling that waiting might be the understatement of the century. Michelle Naomi Mosley has officially solidified herself as my favorite new author. The way she writes is just magic. Emotional, real, a little bit funny, a little bit spicy... she’s truly got it all.
Okay, let’s talk about Gavin and Scottie because I am obsessed. Gavin is Elyse’s older brother, and Scottie has been Elyse’s best friend forever, so they’ve known each other since they were kids, but never really saw each other until now. I loved that setup so much. Scottie is pure chaos in the best way; she’s loud, messy, hilarious, and just so real. I adored her. But also, my heart hurt for her. She’s dealing with Type 1 Diabetes and ADHD, and the way Michelle highlighted what that actually looks like, like the constant stress about medication, insurance, and just surviving in our broken healthcare system, made me so mad on her behalf and the behalf of others in her situation. Like, irrationally angry for Scottie and for everyone else dealing with that reality. Representation like this really matters, and Michelle handled it beautifully.
And Gavin… MY GOODNESS. Sweet, patient, caring Gavin. Literal perfection. The best book husband (yes, husband, not boyfriend because we’ve upgraded here). He was so down bad for Scottie from the start, and he made her feel worthy and seen and loved exactly as she was. I loved how he never treated her like a burden, but instead, he just got her. Also, he’s tall, ripped, wears glasses, has a man bun, AND a thigh tattoo? I was losing my mind. And he literally grew his hair out so he could learn to braid it and do hairstyles for his daughter? Are you kidding me?! He was such a good dad too! Every scene with him and Lily melted me, and he stepped up and into his role immediately, which I adored.
Their fake marriage setup was so good because it was full of tension, pining, and that slow burn that had me screaming for them to JUST DO IT ALREADY. The chemistry was insane, but it also felt so emotional and right. The CGM scene between them was so intimate and a reflection of how much he cared for her and did not find her a burden, and I actually almost passed out from how sweet that moment was. It was perfect. Their connection felt real and earned, and I loved watching them fall for each other bit by bit.
Also, the Ledger family is elite. That dinner scene with the “pie” conversation? I was actually laughing out loud. Literally, it was so funny and Michelle excels at the hilarious and awkward family interactions. Their banter and chaos are unmatched, and I love how protective and close they all are. I am begging (seriously, BEGGING) for Aria’s book next.
Honestly, Bottle Shock was everything I hoped for and more. Michelle Naomi Mosley is seriously on another level and absolutely underrated, and Gavin and Scottie’s story completely blew me away and was well worth the wait. Emotional, hilarious, spicy, and full of love. This book really had it all and I WILL be telling everyone about it.
Thank you to Michelle Naomi Mosley and Luna Literary for the eARC of this book.
I speeded through this book cause I knew it would be a 3 star pretty early on and yea, it was a pretty steady 3 stars read. This book is like a hallmark movie I would put on as a background noise or spend half the time watching TikTok’s. This doesn’t mean it’s bad, it’s just… exactly how I described it. There were way too many logical loopholes for me not to be bothered by them. They are each other crushes but he was avoiding her but now just stopped? They were supposed to not be do any type of PDA when nobody was there but they had an almost ONS? Any many, many more things like that. The situation with the house (the weekend there) was super weird. The third act drama with his family (let’s call it that to avoid giving any direct spoilers) made zero sense. You can enjoy this story if you don’t question the plot or characters actions too much. I didn’t care for the characters at all. Ok, that’s a stretch, there were some cute scenes, but like overall it wasn’t working for me as a whole.
The marketing for this whole series worked very well on me but I won’t be continuing this series or going back to books 1 and 2. I’m way past my hallmark era and the execution here was just way too hallmarky for me.
If you like small town , marriage of connivence , single dad , sisters best friend , forced proximity , opposites attract , dual pov , chronic illness rep , one bed trope , then this is for you !
I adore this series and all the characters in it , this follows Scottie and Gavin . Scottie comes back to red mountain as something happened and she needed a change and start fresh . Scottie and Gavin have known each other when they were kids but grew apart when they got older .
Scottie is best friends with Gavins sister Elyse. When Scottie moves back to the small town she doesn’t have anywhere to live so she moves in to gavins pool house next to his house and the that’s when things start to happen and tension goes from there. The tension and banter between them was everything and I loved how they both included Lilly in everything which is gavins daughter . She is adorable and hilarious !
The main characters were so honest with each other and opening up , Scottie has type 1 diabetes and has to be careful when she’s out etc and the way Gavin supported her with everything and made sure she’s ok in every way possible was just ahhh . Gavin is also struggling with grieve from the past and Scottie also helps him and talks about it and creates a safe space for them both .
I swear, being a Michelle Naomi Mosley fan is basically part of my DNA at this point and Bottle Shock just proved why all over again. Reading this felt like coming home, and now I’m already missing Red Mountain with my whole heart.
Mosley has this rare ability to write stories that sink under your skin from the very first page. Bottle Shock is another one of those small-town romances that wraps around you like a familiar blanket. Her writing is rich but never heavy, emotional but never overwhelming, and somehow both comforting and addictive at the same time.
Gavin absolutely stole the show—winemaker, glasses, man bun, thigh tattoo, golden-retriever sweetness, and the softest girl-dad energy. And Scottie? Pure fire and resilience. Together, they’re magnetic in a way that feels effortless and inevitable. Their connection had me grinning, kicking my feet, and absolutely refusing to put the book down. I inhaled this story in one sitting and still wanted more.
This book is full of heart, healing, trust, and two people figuring out how to choose themselves and each other. Mosley gives every character depth, pressure, and purpose, like a good wine, everyone is fermenting or bursting in their own time.
I’m already mourning the fact that it’s over… Red Mountain just feels like home, and now I miss it all over again. Bottle Shock is out now, and you absolutely need it in your life.
"I can't move on from you. You're all I want. All I think about."
I think what I loved most about this book was just how natural everything felt. Scottie and Gavin come together in the most comfortable, steady way that doesn’t feel rushed or chaotic, and it also feels perfectly them, if that makes sense.
Gavin is so calm and grounded, everything he does seems genuine. He doesn’t make his actions a big deal, he just does them (hello where can I find this man?!)
Scottie is a strong FMC but in a messy, real life kind of way that I love. She keeps going even when it seems everything in her life is against her and I absolutely adored watching her slowly realize she could be taken care of by someone else without giving up who she is.
I adored this read, so grateful to Michelle and Luna Literacy for the ARC.
This was such a sweet read! In my opinion, this book was fluffier than Michelle’s first two but I still loved it nonetheless and it was everything I would want from an easy, light small-town romance (with some of spice, of course).
Honestly, Gavin never caught my attention in the series but I am so glad he got his own book because this man… I love a good golden retriever boyfriend/husband, but when this man is jealous, both him and I went feral. These Ledger men are literally *chef’s kiss*!
No surprise here though that I would enjoy this story— give me a single-dad romance and a fake dating/ marriage of convenience trope and just trust that it will have me undone every time. OH, and the banter between Michelle’s character is always top tier.
I am so deeply invested into the Red Mountain series… I cannot wait for the next one!
And he loves his little girl to the end of the earth. And will do absolutely anything for her.
I think Gavin stole the whole book with how with simply being him. I loved him he was sexy, caring, possessive, gentle, He WAS EVERYTHING. . The best book boyfriend and it’s very hard to top him. Scottie is a strong and resilient woman, she’s doesn’t let anything deter her and I love that about her.
I loved them together they fit perfectly and complemented es other well. 4.5/5 ⭐️
I love this series!! I loved getting to know Scottie and Gavin more throughout this book. I loved the story and i enjoyed the marriage of convenience trope. I love that Scottie and lily got to have their own special relationship and they really emphasized not forgetting Allison as she is a crucial part of their lives! The only thing that took me out of it a tiny bit was the grammatical errors. Some chapters didn’t seem to be edited as carefully as others. Everything else i truly loved and was in 100%.
book three in the Red Mountain Series. gavin only lives for his daughter and his family. he wants to give her the best. he’s looking for a house but the owner only want a family. scottie comes back to her home town. taking on her family business. when her best friends bother asked her to play fake wife. she’s like why not. what’s the worst that can happen. he makes it so easy for her to fall in love with him. taking care of her like nothing. the small thing become big . the lines are crossed and now they are way over their head but in a good way.
I am absolutely obsessed with Gavin. He’s definitely going on the book boyfriend list. I adored Gavin and Scottie’s story so much. I’m a sucker for a best friend’s sibling romance and this one had me sucked in!
Marriage of convenience tropes are sometimes hit or miss with me but I loved the story behind it in this book. Honestly there wasn’t anything I didn’t like about the book. I think this was my favorite of the series!
Thank you so much to the author for sending me an ARC of this book!
3.5. Cute and predictable in a good way. I did get confused about ages a few times, and also felt like Scottie wasn’t fully fleshed out as a character. Actually maybe both weren’t. But I did love the scenery and the community and the feeling they brought up. I also LOVED that the author did a little blurb at the beginning about the two previous books!!! I read this one first so it was SO nice to have a little recap without too many spoilers to understand the story better.
I think this might be a rival for my favorite book of 2025. Scottie and Gavin are everything. Best friend’s brother meets HIDDEN marriage of convenience, what could go wrong? The devotion and love though is *heart eyes* perfection.
i love this book. i love this series. if you’re looking for your next binge read, choose this series!!! the characters, the vibes, the swooniness, all of it is perfect.
thank you so much to the author and luna literary management for the e-arc! 🌙
This was my first marriage-of-convenience romance and honestly? It pulled me in way faster than I thought it would. The whole setup actually felt practical and made total sense. Their opposites-attract chemistry was perfect, and watching their “we’re just pretending” marriage turn into something real had me kicking my feet.
marriage of convenience and single dad aren’t my favorite tropes, but this was done right! michelle never disappoints. i loved seeing scottie and gavin navigate their fake marriage while hiding it from everyone. i’m so excited for the next book!
A gorgeous single dad x sister's best friend romance WITH secret marriage of convenience?! Like anyone needs any more of a reason to read this book! This was such a fun and heartfelt read, I love how reassuring Gavin was in his love for Scottie, he was so down bad for her. I love Scottie's fiery personality and how much banter she brought with her. The chemistry and tension built up was so good and I loved their happily ever after.

Thank you so much to Michelle Naomi Mosley and Luna Literacy for this arc
This was my very first read by the author and y’all, this most definitely will not be my last!! If there is one thing I’m a sucker for, it’s a single dad, but add in a marriage of convenience and forced proximity?!! Yep, I was a total goner and ate this up! I fell in love with these characters so fast and was completely invested in their relationships. The tension between Scottie and Gavin was delicious and their chemistry was perfection. Gavin has had a secret crush on Scottie since they were young and boy is he down bad for her. All the small things he would do for her and all the little details her remembered just had me melting into puddle. And Lily? This little girl was just so freaking adorable and I loved her so much.
Thank you so much to Luna Literary and the author for an arc 💕
