A bad-boy NFL star meets his match in a feisty single mom with this sweet, steamy, and emotional novel about second chances and breaking the rules of romance.
Raising my ten-year-old son, running an animal rescue, and caring for my grandfather leaves zero time for complications, let alone cocky athletes who get under my skin. Too bad the universe didn’t get the memo.
Because a big complication just crashed into my life—literally—in the form of towering NFL quarterback Archer Evans, sentenced to community service at my shelter after a scandal. Despite his mistakes, I try not to judge. He’s got demons of his own, and even though he’s made it perfectly clear he wants me, the last thing he needs is a wary single mom seeing the vulnerable man beneath the muscles and the attitude.
Though I’ll admit, I’m tempted to look.
Not that I’d cave. With his notoriety, Archer would never make it past date two of my eight-date rule. I want simple. Safe. He’s too successful. Too arrogant. Too everything. The definition of complicated.
But as the walls around Archer start to crumble, so do mine. And this complication feels suspiciously like love.
This was really good, the usual angsty story we expect from Sorenson.
Karla always writes great complicated characters with great chemistry. So much depth and emotion and her side characters add so much. But the ending was so cheesy I found myself cringing, but I’m sure many will love it as he humiliates himself for her quite nicely.
Also buckle up for a very slow burn, no sexy time until the very last moment and the last four or so chapters were just an extended epilogue.
Also also, I will always appreciate a sportsball romance with zero sportsball in it.
This is really a little over a four star read because of the long ending but I’m forgiving it and boosting it up because this author is very talented.
*****************************
Got the arc and the audiobook arc, I will be doing a tandem! Wooohooooo! Thanks to Karla for giving me access to both!
Archer was a man-child who was mean to the whole world because he had daddy issues. Remi was a perfectly perfect single mom who worked at an animal shelter and took care of her grandpa. There was a cast of side characters who always knew what Remi and Archer were feeling, and who always wanted to talk and share their wisdom. That includes Archer’s sister who, after seeing Remi twice, declared that she knew her so well she could tell what Remi would and wouldn’t do. Or Remi’s grandpa, who reminded her to use a condom 😩
This book has some good tropes, but that’s it. I’m not sure why this author’s style doesn’t work for me anymore; either she changed or I did, but I struggled with this book. It all felt very surface-level, and I couldn’t really connect with anyone.
Also, I generally don’t mind swearing, but if the word “fuck” is used over 200 times, I start wondering if the author knows any other words.
I skimmed from the courtroom scene on; it was so cringe I couldn’t take it. Some things should stay between two people. I hate public grand gestures, even if they are public by accident.
It’s not that I hated this book, it just didn’t make me feel much (except for that second-hand embarrassment toward the end).
Thanks to Montlake and NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

Why is there no Send to Kindle button? I have to read this ON MY PHONE?? You did me dirty, NetGalley 😭
Karla Sorensen has completely outdone herself with How Not to Fall in Love, and I am officially a puddle of emotions on the floor.
This book is the absolute top-tier, zero-notes contemporary romance, earning a flawless 5-star crown for being pure, unadulterated serotonin. The character arcs are so deeply layered and human that you can’t help but become entirely obsessed, and the chemistry? It’s not just a slow burn; it’s an agonizingly perfect, butterflies-in-your-stomach kind of vibe that makes your heart ache in the best way possible.
Sorensen's writing is incredibly sophisticated yet totally addictive, effortlessly blending laugh-out-loud banter with those quiet, emotionally charged moments that leave you completely winded. It is an absolute page-turner that hits every single romantic beat with precision, proving once again that when it comes to delivering a story with massive heart and undeniable soul, she clears the bar every time.
I count Karla Sorensen as one of my favorite authors for a reason, every book i read from her catalogue is either a complete binge or a five-star emotional rollercoaster. How To Not Fall in Love did not disappoint in that regard, because it was the perfect in between and i absolutely loved everything about it.
the story follows a single mom trying to make end meets while working at a dog shelter, and an mmc who’s a well-known football player completely lost in his own life, who ends up crashing into that same shelter. their dynamic started with an enemies-to-lovers edge but slowly shifted into something softer that was rooted in friendship, and i really loved that progression.
the mmc was such a layered character. at first, he came off as a complete asshole, but the more we learned about him, the more his behavior started to make sense. i appreciated how his character unfolded, especially how he tried to be better, particularly knowing how much the fmc’s child looked up to him. that added so much emotional weight to his growth.
there was also a plot twist i genuinely didn’t see coming, which made the story even more engaging. overall, it was such an enjoyable, emotional read, with that signature Karla Sorensen writing that just pulls you in so effortlessly.
i’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a single mom romance with a lot of heart, emotion, and character growth. and i really hope we get a book about the mmc’s sister, because i’d pick that up just as fast.
many thanks to the publisher & the author for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review
All the right tropes. All the right moments. And somehow…not the emotional damage I was hoping for.
This had all the ingredients I usually devour, single mum, broody athlete, redemption arc and emotional accountability but somehow it stayed in the “this is nice” zone instead of ruining my life.
What worked for me (aka: I see the vision…)
I’ll give credit where it’s due, when the book finally gives us context for Archer’s behaviour, it does reframe him in a meaningful way.
The protective brother angle, him taking the fall and that whole “ruin me, but not her” energy? Yeah…that worked. And his apology scene was strong, no excuses, no deflection, no “but you also...” nonsense. Just accountability and a clear “I’ll earn it". We love to see it.
I was fully expecting miscommunication chaos but instead we got: actual conversations, clear boundaries and emotional honesty. Remi lays it all out, her past, her fears, her standards and Archer listens. He doesn’t bulldoze her, doesn’t charm his way around it, just…stays.
Also the “you decide what happens next” moment?? Sir. Respectfully. That was attractive.
The slow build does lead to some genuinely good moments: the awkward chaotic flirting with the teammates, the “I wanted to ask you out and didn’t know how” panic confession, the first kiss where she chooses him and he just…lets her.
Those moments? Cute. Effective. Earned.
Where it lost me (aka: why I never fully connected)
The characters felt a little flat
I see the intent behind both characters but they never really stepped outside their core traits. Archer cycles through angry, guilty and protective on repeat while Remi stays firmly in cautious, responsible and guarded mode. We get the reasons behind who they are but I didn’t always feel like they evolved beyond those starting points in a way that surprised me. Their growth felt expected rather than revealing, like they were moving through the motions of an arc instead of uncovering new layers that shifted how I saw them.
The emotional depth felt surface-level
The book tells us Archer has trauma, Remi has trust issues and that this relationship matters but I didn’t consistently feel it. Even the bigger moments, apology, backstory reveals and vulnerability were solid but not quite as impactful as they could’ve been. I wasn’t wrecked. I wasn’t spiralling. I was just...observing.
The pacing was slow without strong payoff (for me)
The first chunk especially felt like: tension > internal thoughts > more tension > repeat. And while things do pick up once Archer’s motivations are revealed, it took a while to get there.
By the time the emotional stakes really started landing, I wanted a bit more momentum or escalation to match it.
It plays it a little too safe
Ironically, for a book about breaking rules...it sticks pretty closely to them. Nothing felt particularly surprising or standout. It’s well executed but nothing about it felt new.
Final thoughts
This is a solid and easy-to-read romance with some genuinely good moments especially once Archer’s character opens up and the communication between them strengthens.
But for me, it stayed in that “I see it, I respect it but I don’t feel obsessed with it” space. I wanted a bit more depth, distinct characterisation and emotional impact. And instead got something that was consistently "just fine".
Final verdict
3 ⭐️ — good on paper but I never fully felt it in my soul.
I liked it…I just never fell for it.
Tropes and vibes: • single mum x broody NFL player • redemption arc • forced proximity (animal shelter/community service) • protective MMC (sister + FMC + child) • “I’ll earn your trust” energy • slow burn with bursts of tension • awkward chaotic flirting to emotional vulnerability • found family undertones
the setup… Remi Sinclair doesn’t have time for a personal life, between her job running an animal rescue and raising her ten-year old son Gavin. She’s also caring for her aging grandfather. But her best friend is determined she’s going with her to coveted party so that’s why she sitting at the bar next to the broody man who seems like he’d like to be anywhere else, too. Next thing you know, these two have a hot and heavy moment and she flees. A week later, she discovers that man was Archer Evans, the NFL quarterback who her son adores…and he’s the man who drove his car into the rescue center. Charged with a DUI, Archer’s sentence is community service…at her animal rescue.
the heart of the story… Archer was introduced in Single Dad Dilemma and I have to admit I wasn’t a fan but intrigued to learn more about the guy. My instincts were right because the reality behind the facade of his perfect life was heartbreaking. Remi was protective of her son, managing his shattered image of his idol and shielding her own heart, savagely broken in the past. These were the most compelling aspects of the story.
the narration… Stephen Dexter and CJ Bloom are wonderful storytellers. I enjoyed their interpretations of their characters and overall performances.
the bottom line… Archer Evans turned out to be the character I didn’t know I wanted more of and I enjoyed his backstory. Remi Evans was the right partner at the right time for him, interesting in her own right. I liked their relationship even though I didn’t quite connect with the romance. But there’s so much more here, strong themes that added weight, making this a much more enjoyable story. 3.5 stars
I liked it, but it felt kind of uneven to me. The jump from "do we want to give this a try" to "I love you" happened in a fraction of a second, and gave me whiplash. I didn't believe they were there yet. They'd barely spend any time together, barely knew each other, and hadn't even started trying to have a relationship. I feel like "yes, I want to try to make this work" needed to happen earlier, so we could have some time to see them make it work before it was suddenly I-love-you-let's-get-married time.
And having it happen earlier would have helped my annoyance with Remi, because she really held on to her bullshit for way, way, way too long.
Every time I pick up a Karla Sorensen book she surprises me in the best possible way. Archer is the textbook definition of "if he wanted to he would" and the dynamic between our two main characters was so realistic and human. I read a lot of romance, and I always love how Karla writes her characters. They're dealing with real human emotions, trauma and conflicts that we go through in real life.
Once again, even after some time, this author managed to win me over with her writing and the characters she creates. I still think about Griffin and Ruby from Lessons in Heartbreak, and now Remi and Archer have earned their place in my mind too.
From the very first pages, I found myself completely hooked: I devoured this book so quickly and got swept up in their story before I even realized it. I really loved the way two people from different worlds collide, clash, and slowly get to know each other… until it turns into something deeper.
Between the two, Archer’s POV was a bit harder for me to get into at the beginning. His backstory—growing up in a family where love was tied to perfection—felt quite linear at first, and it didn’t immediately stand out to me. However, his emotional growth, and especially his tenderness toward the end, completely melted me.
Remi, on the other hand, had my heart from page one. Her strength, her love for her family, and her passion for her work made her such an easy character to root for. I admired her so much and was cheering for her the whole time.
The supporting characters were wonderful, adding humor, depth, and warmth to the story—Remi’s grandpa Harold and son Gavin, Archer’s playful sister Analise, the football teammates, and of course the shelter dogs all left their mark.
That said, I did feel a bit lost toward the end. I struggled to fully grasp how they transitioned into starting a relationship—it felt a little unclear and pulled me out of the story for a moment. Still, the ending itself was beautiful, emotional, and definitely delivered.
A small note: I haven’t read Single Dad Dilemma yet, and I’ve seen many readers recommend reading it first to better understand Archer. I didn’t… and of course, I accidentally spoiled myself. Genius move.
Overall, this was a sweet and emotional romance with great banter, godd tension, character dynamics, and a satisfying HEA. One of the highlights of this story is how both characters navigate their growing connection through emotional moments rather than focusing solely on physical attraction.
Thanks to Montlake and NetGalley for the eARC, even though in this case there wasn’t an option to download it directly to Kindle.
I am so glad I listened to the audiobook as soon as I saw it recommended on a GR friend's blog. I loved many things about this slow burn romance between a Buffalo QB and a single mom who runs a senior dog rescue. The setting is perfect, I am a huge Buffalo fan and the fact that there was a dog rescue that plays a big part of the story had me hooked right away. Archer and Remi are meant for each other. The spice level was medium, just the way I like it 😍 and the narrators did a fab job. I will be sure to pick up more books by this author that was unfamiliar to me before listening to this book.
Karla did it again!! After meeting Archer in Single Dad Dilemma, I KNEW there was more to him than the image he presented to the world.
His redemption arc was sooooooooo good, and he met his perfect match in Remi! They were more alike than first meets the eye, which contributed to their innate understanding of the other’s heart. The author is know for her slow burns that stem from the couple’s natural chemistry. It’s not just about the physical aspect; Karla builds up the emotional connection so you are 1000% rooting for them by the time they realize they can make their relationship work.
In between the romance, there were so many cozy moments (i.e., all the scenes with Pops and Gavin, the puppies, Archer’s teammates) that reminded me why Karla’s books always feel like coming home!
What to Expect: bad boy quarterback, single mom, forced proximity, he falls first, cute puppies
Content Warnings: toxic parent (on page) mentions of drug/alcohol use (off page)
This is my second Karla Sorensen audiobook and she’s fast becoming a new favourite of mine. I loved this one so much - the narrators, CJ Bloom and Stephen Dexter, were perfection and really brought all the emotion, tension, and chemistry to life. Pair a cocky NFL quarterback with a fiercely independent single Mum running an animal rescue, and you just know it’s going to be messy in the best way. Archer ends up doing community service at Remi’s shelter after a scandal, and what starts off tense and messy slowly turns into something softer, deeper, and a lot harder to ignore. This was such a sweet, emotional romance. Watching both Archer and Remi’s walls come down as they learn to trust again was everything. The slow burn was so drawn out in the best way, and the payoff was absolutely worth it 🔥 Things I loved: • Single mum x bad-boy athlete • Redemption arc • He washes her hair (!!) • Sloooooow burn • Found family • Protective older brother vibes • Animal shelter setting • Archer’s teammates (need their stories ASAP) • The most loving, hilarious grandpa
Safe to say I’m officially obsessed and I’ll be diving into more of her books very soon.
Thank you netgalley and brilliancepublishing for the ALC.
This was such a cute read. At first I was a little worried about the mc he definitely had some gravelling to do and I didn’t know if he would be redeemable but the character growth with him was great. I loved Remi she was super sweet and the way she looked after Gavin and her pops and all the dogs at the shelter she had a huge heart! This was a slow burn so I loved that we got to see them grow close together and both grow separately. Thanks to NetGalley and Karla Sorensen for the ARC!
From single dad dilemma we know Archer was a serious asshole and I was curious how the author was going to redeem him.
Archer and the h had a sexy meet up that ended poorly. Things took a turn for the worse when he got a DUI that caused damage to the animal shelter that she runs. The court orders community service as well as payment, his service? Hours spent at the centre..... His supervisor? None other than the woman he can't get out of his head.
******* This has some tearjerker moments but fell flat at others. Archer had an emotionally abusive dad even if no one called it that. He tried for years to get his dad's approval and grew up in a rich but emotionally difficult household with a father that was impossible to please and harshly critical. While I'm sympathetic to Archer's childhood.... This is a grown man worth millions 🤔 I found it a little hard to be sympathetic tbh. It reminded me a little of KA's H's who'd do some shit then we'd suddenly hear of their childhood trauma.....or maybe KA traumatised me so much I'm being too harsh 😂. Either way we do see some growth and change from Archer as time passes.
This is another single parent romance as the h is a single parent to a son she had at 17. One of the biggest reasons this is such a slow burn is because she refused to bring him around her son if the relationship wasn't going anywhere and I absolutely commend and respect her for that. But when thing started shifting I needed to see more interaction between Archer and the son. Especially since he'd mentioned playing ball with a dad, I live for scenes like that in a single parent romance. It's not until the almost end that we get time between Archer and the son.
This was ok but not as much time was spent on the mcs and the new step parent as in single dad dilemma for me 😔. Again good chemistry, limited sexy times 👀
No cheating Archer didn't seem to be a man whore just an asshole The h became a parent at 17, the dad wasn't involved
We have a single mom FMC running an animal shelter (automatic bonus points) and an NFL quarterback MMC who quite literally crashes into her life. And let’s just say… first impressions? Not great. I wanted to smack him, but thankfully the FMC handled that for me (bonus points again).
What I really liked was seeing his growth. He starts off frustrating, but as the story progresses, you can see him change and work through his issues, which I appreciated.
The romance is definitely a slow burn. Like… very slow. There were moments where I felt like we were going in circles a bit and I was tempted to skip ahead, but at the same time, the chemistry between them was there.
Just don’t go in expecting a lot of spice, because it’s very minimal and only really shows up toward the end.
The football aspect stays mostly in the background, which worked fine for the story. I also enjoyed the side characters, especially the FMC’s grandfather and the MMC’s sister. The MMC’s dad… yeah, not so much 😅
Overall, it was bingeable, easy to read, and had a nice emotional core, even if the pacing dragged a bit at times.
When we met Archer Evans in Single Dad Dilemma (Coach King and Lily), I had no idea just how quickly I would be cheering for him to win the happily ever after with one Remi Sinclair.
But of course I should have known better because I devour anything Karla Sorensen writes.
Other reasons I am obsessed with this book include (but not limited to) the following:
🏈Remi’s 10-years old son Gavin will melt your heart… and watching Archer want to be the best for him and earn his love too is just 🥰
🏈Remi’s grandfather Harold gives all the squishy feelings made better by his stubbornness
🏈Bandit. Scout. Daisy. All the dogs. 🐶
🏈Archer’s relationship with his younger sister Analise
🏈Delightful, golden retriever, Buffalo Storm’s rookie receiver Grant Williams will put a permanent smile on your face 😊 (please give him a book)
Fair warning— get ready for a slowwwwww burn…but don’t worry, when they come together it is 🔥🔥🔥 💕💕💕✨✨✨🥰🥰🥰
The people-pleaser and the hothead." I sighed. "What a pair we make."
If you have read The Kings books, you know Archer. Or like me, you thought you knew Archer. The cocky, no-friends having, football superstar with the bad attitude. All it took was a people pleasing, sweetheart, single mom with too much on her plate to bring him to his knees. Remi was a fun fmc. She was sweet but had some sass when it came to Archer. The journey was enticing.
This book had a little bit of twist and turns. It had the best supporting cast of characters. The grandpa, the bestie, the rookie... and all the dogs... Seriously, hot football romance with a dog rescue subplot. Sign Me Up!
This was a quick, sweet, funny, and cute read. I finished in a 2 days. I really hope there will be a book about the rookie, he was too cute. Oh, and Annalise, I would love to see her get a hea.
Overall, this was a good time book. I will keep reading from this author.
I received this book as an ARC, but the review is completely independent and reflects my own genuine thoughts, feelings, and opinions
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book truly surprised me in the best way.
What stayed with me the most was Archer as a character. He is incredibly emotional, loyal, and deeply devoted. Even while struggling with his feelings for Remi, he never once wavers when it comes to protecting his sister. His willingness to sacrifice everything—his reputation, his career, his happiness, and even his chance at love—just to keep her safe speaks volumes about the kind of man he is.
That kind of quiet strength and selflessness made his character incredibly powerful and unforgettable.
The story itself is emotional, engaging, and full of heart. It pulled me in from the very beginning and kept me invested until the end. The connection between Archer and Remi is strong and believable, adding even more depth to an already compelling story.
Overall, a deeply emotional and beautifully written romance that stayed with me long after I finished it.
Thank you to Montlake and Karla Sorensen for the ALC and eARC of How Not to Fall in Love.
I have been waiting for Archer’s story since he was first mentioned in Single Dad Dilemma, and I was so excited to finally get it. It might be my favorite in this universe.
I had both the audiobook and the ebook, but I experienced most of this story through audio because the narration was so good. Stephen Dexter and CJ Bloom truly brought Archer and Remi to life and made them feel incredibly real and relatable.
Archer’s backstory, especially the history with his family, added so much depth to his character and made him an especially compelling MMC. This is technically a football romance, but the sports element felt pretty light, which I didn’t mind at all. I loved getting glimpses of characters from previous books, which is one of my favorite things about interconnected standalones.
Remi is a strong, independent single mom, which is a trope I will always love. Give me single parent romances every time. Her son is adorable and actually written like a kid, which made those moments feel even more authentic. The secondary characters were also a highlight, creating a supportive and lovable community around Archer and Remi.
Karla Sorensen has a way of building a world that pulls you in and makes you wish these characters were real so you could spend time with them. I am already hoping we see more of this group in future books.
If you love sports romance, contemporary romance, and single parent tropes, this is definitely one to pick up.
Karla is an absolute must read author and everything I read is always such an amazing experience. She is a go to for sports romance and never lets me down. This book had me completely hooked from the start. It blends emotional depth and tension with some much hilarity that it was a perfect mix and made it impossible to put down.
Remi is a single mom to Gavin and is busy running an animal rescue. Remi and Archer meet one night when she is out. They have chemistry but they go their separate ways without a way to contact each other. But when a drunk driver crashes into the animal rescue’s newly renovated area, she is surprised to find that it was Archer! Even more surprised was Gavin. I loved this kid. He admired Archer as a football player so much, but I loved that he lost respect for him after what he did. Watching Archer try to prove he’s more than his mistakes while she cautiously lets her guard down was so satisfying. Archer had his own demons and secrets that he wasn’t letting anyone in on but as he got to know Remi he really let his guard down and let her in. The chemistry between them was undeniable, with just enough push and pull to keep things interesting without feeling overdone. It wouldn’t be a Karla book if it wasn’t a mega slow burn and it always hits just right.
Stephen Dexter and CJ Bloom were a dream pairing. They sounded so good and were able to really capture all the personalities and the chemistry.
I was provided an ARC and ALC of this book via Netgalley and the author, all opinions are my own.
This was such a sweet romance. Archer has a reputation as a bad boy quarterback, but underneath all that anger and attitude is a heart of gold and trauma from his daddy issues. Remi is a single mom who tries to do it all. She takes care of her grandpa, raises her son, runs an animal shelter, and so much more. Remi is her own worst enemy when it comes to fun and relaxation as she is always putting everyone and everything before herself. Moms single or in a relationship can relate as most of us feel that, as there is always 1000 things to do and we are always exhausted. When Archer comes crashing into her life, literally, she is not happy about it. He's gruff and grumpy but he's willing to pay his penance and make amends. The more time he spends at the shelter doing his community service the more sparks fly between Archer and Remi, but they are both determined to keep things professional. This leads to a slow burn romance as the emotional moments build and they get to know one another.
I'm a sucker for a great grandparent character, and Remi's grandpa was awesome. He raised Remi, and now that he's gotten older and has some heath issues, he needs some help. He still gives her hell and advice when she needs it. I loved him. I also loved Remi's best friend Ness, she was funny and always on Remi's side. Archer's younger sister was sweet despite being raised by such a cold father, and as the story unfolds we get to see her and Archer open up and learn more about their backstory. Archer's teammates are great as well, they tentatively offer support to their standoffish QB, creating some silly scenes and much needed comradery. There isn't much actual football in this sports romance, but it is mentioned a few times.
I mainly listened to the audiobook, and both narrators were awesome. They truly brough Remi and Archer to life. This book got emotional at times and it really came through in the narration. The humor also came through as there were also really funny parts.
This story is a real journey in healing and acceptance. Both Archer and Remi hide behind a title. Remi is the single mum of a pre-teen who feels like she’s barely holding it together. With money worries and life stuff constantly having her chase her own tail….but in reality she’s a machine, she loves her family and friends fiercely, she holds them all together perfectly and never lets any of them down. She has created a happy, loving home with support from her wonderful Pops and it’s no wonder Archer wanted to spend more time there.
Archer is the rich arrogant QB with a father who is nasty and a total control freak. There has never been any love in his household apart from the feelings between him and his younger sister. A sister he would protect with his life. It takes some tough talking, inner reflection and bickering with Remi for Archer to finally see what he truly wants and can also achieve….simply by letting folk in.
I really enjoyed this story, there are some real heartfelt moments, tough love talks and lessons to be learned for all of them, but in the end it works out for everyone. By the way….I do love Pops!!
What to Expect: Sports (Football) Single Mom Forced Proximity Slow Burn Forbidden
There's only one word to describe how I feel about this book: Incredible. Full of the slow burn goodness and emotional turmoil that I come to expect from Karla, Remi and Archer had my heart from chapter one.
Archer and Remi are forced together when Archer is assigned community service hours after driving drunk and wrecking the lawn of her animal rescue. At first, Remi resents Archer's presence. But the more time she spends with him, she realizes that underneath his bad boy quarterback persona Archer is a broken man who needs a safe place to call home.
This love story is achingly beautiful. It was delicious how the tension built between Archer and Remi as the story goes on. I loved the side characters, and how much they helped push our two main characters together. Remi's son and Archer's sister were also fantastic. But above all, my favorite element of this story is the redemption journey that Archer went on. Seeing his growth with his team and with Remi had me listening to this audiobook in one sitting.
The narrators Stephen Dexter and CJ Bloom were fantastic in their roles. I could not get enough and will be listening to this story again.
This was just a really cute and easy book to read. Nothing overly dramatic or complicated, just two people trying to keep things casual while very obviously becoming important to each other. I think what worked best for me was how natural the relationship felt. A lot of the romance builds through everyday moments, conversations, helping each other out and spending time together. It felt sweet without trying too hard. The characters also felt mature. They have baggage and fears and some emotional walls up, but it never turned into exhausting miscommunication or ridiculous drama for the sake of the plot. The chemistry was great and the slow burn was done really well. That said, this is definitely a quieter romance. If you want a lot of angst, twists, or huge emotional explosions, this probably won’t hit that way. It’s more cozy and centered on the relationship itself. Overall, this was just a genuinely enjoyable romance. Sweet, comforting, sentimental, and very emotional.
Ooof, that got me. Either I’m about to menstruate, or Sorensen knows how to pack an emotional punch.
This book follows Archer, A very angsty benched football player, and Remi, the very overextended single mom. From their hot and slightly embarrassing almost hookup in a club to the mandatory community service Archer is court-ordered to do after he DUI'd right into the yard of the animal rescue Remi manages. Talk about an oof.
I loved Remi; she was utterly exhausted by life and all of her commitments, but still managed to be there for the people she loved and show them her care. She was great. Archer's story broke my heart. The ONLY time I accept that sort of manchild behavior is in books. In IRL, get some therapy! Don't worry, though, Remi doesn't give in easily; he really has to work for it.
I really enjoyed the journey, and I'm so excited to read more from this author!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher/Author for an early copy for review.
I absolutely loved Archer and Remi’s story. This book pulled me in from the very beginning and did not let go. It made me laugh and made me emotional. I loved watching Archer try to become the man Remi and Gavin deserved, and seeing Remi slowly let her guard down. Their chemistry was amazing, but what I loved most was the growth and healing between them and how they truly made each other better. I also loved the side characters and the humor and depth they brought to the story. This story was heartfelt, emotional, and funny. I completely devoured this book.
Thanks to NetGalley and Montlake for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Gahhh Karla sure knows how to hit me in my feels 🥹 that epilogue especially omg!
Safe to say I loved this one! It was a really easy read especially with the audiobook because the narrators were amazing.
I loved that not all was as it seemed and how everything unfolds! I lovvvveeedd how slow burn this one was! I was salivating over the tension between Archer and Remi! Their chemistry made it all worth it!
I love a sports and single parent romance combined, add baggage that they both need to overcome and some twists and it was a really good time! 😍
