This Then: A Guide to Powerful and Effective Prayer

The Bible says that “One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, ‘Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.” (Luke 11:1) After setting down some foundational principles and explaining what they shouldn’t do, Jesus gives them instructions on how to pray saying, “This, then, is how you should pray…” (Matthew 6:9) He then goes on to explain in some detail what powerful, effective prayer looks like.

In this book, we explore what Jesus said in those verses. Firstly, we look at the foundational principles he laid down and examine the things he said we shouldn’t do, and then we unpack what Jesus said we should do. By the end, we will be equipped to pray according to the pattern Jesus gave his disciples—powerful and effective prayers that change lives and that impact the world.
