He’s a healer who needs a break. He’s an alpha trying to rebuild a broken pack. When fate throws them together, sparks ignite…
Devon’s whole life has been about responsibility. Between his duties as Pecan Pines’ healer and caring for his dying father in the mountains, he hasn’t had a moment to breathe or imagine a future for himself. When he overhears reckless young wolves from the Thornebane pack plotting to kidnap him, Devon does something shocking. He lets them.
Carter never asked to lead a pack feared for its brutality and hated for its past. As the new alpha, he is determined to prove Thornebane can change. Then his wolves drag in a healer from a rival pack, only Devon doesn’t look like a victim. He looks like temptation.
The moment their eyes meet, the bond between them is undeniable. Fated mates. But with distrust from every side, a dying father, and enemies who would love to see Thornebane fall, Carter and Devon will have to risk everything to claim the future fate has promised them.
Devon (Pecan Pines Book 8) is Devon’s and Carter’s turn in the limelight. The Pecan Pine series is all about wolf shifter packs and the politics of maintaining peace and managing to have some kind of life. Devon is the Pecan Pine Pack’s head healer and he is close to throwing it all away. He is worn out by paperwork, training up his replacement and keeping a check on his ailing father and the travelling that involves, all things that keep him from doing the job he loves, healing and helping others.
Carter is the new pack alpha for the Thornebane pack after decades of bad and cruel management by the previous alpha. He has a lot of damage to repair, both actual and mental, as well as dealing with some of the less co-operative members of the pack who may or may not miss the old ways.
Devon makes a fateful decision on overhearing two young members of the Thornebane pack talking about their mother needing medical help. He lets them take him to the Thornebane land where he discovers the sorry state of their medical facilities. After a confrontation with the Carter, he begins to treat those in need of healing only for the Pecan Pine alpha to turn up with backup looking for answers.
The story is about Devon and Carter realising they are made for each other but having to tread carefully due to inter-pack politics and lack of trust, not forgetting the internal problems within the Thornebane pack. There are some wonderful moments involving Devon and the young Thornebane volunteers as they begin to build a care system from scratch, under his guidance. There are characters from previous books in the series but ‘Devon’ stands up well on its own without needing much in the way of infodumps. I found it to be a very strong story, in fact one of my favorites, with Devon and Carter playing it safe while they get to know each other and then diving in when they admit their attraction. A great read with wonderful lead characters.
This is book eight in the Pecan Pines series. Each book is a standalone read focused on one couple the but entire series has an overlaying storyline. I think you would get more out of it if you read them in order. This is the story of Devon and Carter. Devon is the principal healer for the Pecan Pine's Pack. He is frustrated by all the training and paperwork that he is continually doing rather than actually treating people. Add in his frustration with his parents refusal to move, he is desperate for a break. That comes when he overhears two juvenile wolf from the Thornebane Pack whispering about kidnapping him. He hears how desperate they are for someone to help their hurting mom. So he lets them take him away. Carter is the new alpha for the Thornebane Pack. A pack that has a terrible history of brutality and is hated by all the surrounding packs. Carter is trying to change things for the better. Show everyone that the Thornebane Pack has grown and changed. Unfortunately not everyone is welcoming the change in behaviour and thinking. As soon as Carter sees Devon he knows that his pack is now possibly on the brink of another war. They still haven't recovered from the last altercations. Each knows upon meeting that the other is their mate. But both men have heavy responsibilities and recognize the problems ahead. But Fate does not get their choices wrong. This is their story. The book is written well and is easy to read. I liked how Devon's healer qualities just shone through. Offering his services as a healer and demanding his pack alpha allow him to stay. And Carter would love a mate to help him handle the rebuilding needed to his own pack. Together they face the challenges head on. I really enjoyed this story. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

I loved this book. Great world building and wonderful characters. I loved both Devon and Carter. Poor Devon was stretched so thin, mentally exhausted, and desperate to just rest away from all the responsibilities crushing him. When the book summary said, 'When he overhears reckless young wolves from the Thornebane pack plotting to kidnap him, Devon does something shocking. He lets them,' I didn't expect kids, or the heartfelt reason for 'kidnapping' him. It was sweet and I loved them immediately.
I was completely entranced by this story. The tension between Thornbane pack amongst both themselves and others after the previous alpha ruled over them with fear and control, and gave them such a bad reputation. Carter was alpha now and was very in tune with taking the actions of a good alpha, rational and assessing, authoritative control rather than dictatorship, and nothing of the cruelty of the previous alpha. Like Devon, he also had a lot on his plate and wanted to do the best for his pack.
I loved the dynamic between Devon and Carter as both a healer and an alpha, and the way their relationship developed. I thought they made such a great match.
I loved a number of the supporting characters. I was hooked and could wait to find out what would happen- both in their relationship, where Devon would end up caught between two packs, his dying father and family obligations. This is easily one of my favorite books in this series. 5 stars
Devon is the healer at Pecan Pines, but he has so much on his plate that the stress is wearing him down. His father is sick and refusing to move to Pecan Pines. He's drowning in paperwork, so when he overhears some kids at the gas station talking about snatching him because they need him to heal their mom, he decides to let it happen. Carter is the Alpha of Thornebane. He's trying to show his pack a new way of life. The old Alpha ran the pack with violence and fear. He felt an immediate draw to Devon, but he was fighting it. He couldn't risk a war between Pecan Pines, plus he had people in his own pack that were causing problems. But when Devon ends up in danger, he's finally forced to admit his feelings.

"The chemistry between us wasn’t a slow spark. It was a strike of lightning, instant and blinding."
This is book 8 in the Pecan Pines series by Fel Fern and Kara Kitt. I love this writing duo so when I saw this on Booksprout I knew I had to grab it.
What a great read. I've read each book in this series and this is one of my favorites. Devon, The Pecan Pines healer has been one of my favorite characters. I'm so glad he got his HEA along with Carter, the alpha of the troublesome Thornebane Pack. This was a match made in heaven.
Fated mates, kidnapping Devon seems to be a popular activity, both guys are what each other needs, can't wait to see what's next in the Pecan Pines series
Delightful! Now we know why Devon kept disappearing. Devon faces a conundrum when he starts questioning his life's purpose. He is juggling several balls, none of which make him happy. He discovers an alternate path which opens up a new box of challenges which may lead ot ultimate happiness, potential danger and big dilemmas. I like the characters Fel created, it is nice seeing old characters and the decisions and choices are intriguing. Nicely done. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Devon is a healer from the Pecan Pines pack and has been feeling restless. He goes to check on his parents and gets kidnapped by two kids from the Thornebane pack whose mother is hurt. When Carter the pack alpha catches them Devon tells him he came on his own free will. This book in the series is funny but also very intense since the packs are not on the friendliest term and there are a couple of instigators who make trouble from the Thornebane pack. Really enjoying this series.
Devon is a healer. He stops by a gas station in another packs territory and overhears a couple of juvenile wolves talking about their mom having some problems with her leg. Knowing their pack doesn’t have a healer, he goes with them to see what’s going on. Then he meets the alpha Carter and the rest is history.
This is book eight of the Pecan pines series and it is another great addition, this is Carter and Devon’s story and we get a great fated mates story as they both find the person they need to help them navigate through their hurdles. Great read.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. I was looking forward to Devon and Carter's story. Carter and Devon are drawn to each other and they are well balanced and perfect for each other.
Devon is the lead healer of the Pecan Pines pack who volunteers to be kidnapped to help some children's mother at the Thornebane pack. Carter is the Alpha of the Thornebane pack and fights his attraction to Devon. Their HEA is a must-read in this series.
