I think this might be my favorite volume yet, simply because of the twist that unfolded!
Unlike the previous volumes that really focused on Nagi and connecting with her, we start to learn more about Takeru in this volume, which surprised me! I didn't think we would learn much about him this early on, but the things revealed have changed what I thought would be the course of this series, and I mean that in a good way!
I really enjoyed getting an inside look at Nagi's life at home and FINALLY meeting her parents! They were different from what I expected, and I am thankful for that because I feel I didn't really like that at first, or believe they truly cared for her. *hides*
I'm not sure what else I can say concerning why she went home, and or what's happening, but I like how the stakes have increased, and it's no longer a story of Nagi needing to perform well in school and pass her exams. Yes, she still needs to do both those things, but the secret she finds out is no doubt going to make her life busier outside of school, and she's not sure how she is going to move forward. The sneak peek to the next volume at the end definitely leads me to believe that her life is going to change even MORE than it already did in this volume, though!
Very much looking forward to seeing what happens next in this series because I feel even more invested than I did with the previous volume!

Y’know what this story didn’t need? Antagonists. As a school story with a different take on the genre in the form of its “gods”, plus our rambunctious cast of pretty winning characters, it was doing just fine.
Fortunately, the things that it does great are still present, but this decides to aim real big and doesn’t justify that shift to my own satisfaction. Points for effort.
The first part, as Nagi deals with looming midterms, is classic slice of life stuff and a lot of fun. It offers the first of many chances for Touta to show that he is quietly coming to care for Nagi. Not that he would ever admit it, of course, which makes it better.
Plus, it has most of this volume’s Miruru antics, which are not quite as extensive this time, but still good. Miruru consoling Nagi when her own grades are just as bad is funny, but the capper where she’s thrilled they can be together in remedial studies (before they even try studying) is perfect.
I didn’t initially love Tsukuyomi when he was introduced, but he’s such an oblivious and over-powered dope that he turns out to be much better than expected. His opening scene where he’s eating at the school cafeteria after graduation is the perfect depiction of his cluelessness.
The big revelation that kicks off the story involves Nagi’s brother and, well, it isn’t that big. I mean, yes, I guess it is in the story’s world, but it doesn’t land with near the impact the creative team thinks it does.
It doesn’t help that all this is focused on the one character that I think the storyline doesn’t actually need. We definitely get some good from it, but nothing that’s directly related to this new narrative.
Nagi ends up at home and both Tsukuyomi and Touta wind up there as well (along with Tsukuyomi’s put-upon manager). Lots of mayhem and chaos ensue, plus a really good moment for Nagi herself towards the end that is very lovely.
It’s not a deal-breaker, but I could have done without this big swing. Give me school adventure and Touta being tsundere and Miruru being clingy all day. That it manages to be enjoyable despite the weak swerve is a testament to the groundwork already laid out.

Une petite série que j’apprécie beaucoup!! Par contre le retournement de situation dans ce tome était TOO MUCH, Presque comique tellement c’était fou d’un coup. Mais sinon j’aime trop l’héroïne et c’est divertissant !

4/4.5 stars. Great story development, character depth, pacing, and art. I am still enjoying this. So much seems to happen in each volume.

Après un deuxième tome sympathique mais où la série peinait à décoller car elle peinait à trouver sa voie, l’autrice semble avoir trouvé le bon filon cette fois et le chemin est enfin tracé.
Sympathique shojo d’aventure ésotérique, Kamisama school m’avait bien plu par ses réminiscences de shojo fantastiques que je lisais plus jeune, mais il me manquait quelque chose. Après un premier tome enthousiasmant, j’avais trouvé la suite un peu bateau et j’avais peur de me voir enfermée dans un schéma « aventures académiques » qui ne me plaisait pas plus que ça. J’ai donc été ravie de voir se dessiner autre chose ici.
Cet autre chose, c’est la rencontre entre l’univers de l’école où Nagi a été inscrite et ses histoires de famille. En effet, l’autrice vient faire se percuter de manière on ne peut plus énergique les études de Nagi pour devenir une kami et le mystère de ce frère qui communique avec elle uniquement par le biais d’une peluche. Ni une ni deux, la mangaka a sauté sur l’occasion pour dérouler le fil de son intrigue autour de lui, impliquant Nagi dont elle va développer le rôle et les pouvoirs, mais aussi son camarade Tota qui a tout déclenché, et bien sûr le dieu Tsukuyomi qui veille sur elle depuis le début. Il n’en fallait pas plus pour que l’histoire soit lancée.
J’ai beaucoup aimé trouver enfin un fil rouge, même si celui-ci n’a rien de révolutionnaire. Le mystère autour du frère de Nagi est quelque chose qu’on a déjà vu et n’est pas particulièrement profond ou complexe. Il fait appel cependant, à sa façon, à la culture japonaise et à certaines affaires qui ont eu lieu ces dernières décennies. C’est donc assez chouette de voir comment ils mêlent actualité et culturel / folklore. Je salive d’avance à l’idée de suivre l’enquête que cela va déclencher et les thématiques plus lourdes que cela va impliquer. Mais pour le moment, c’est frais, léger, plein d’humour et de bons sentiments, avec le plaisir de voir une héroïne qui évolue soutenue par certains proches malgré eux. On aime voir Nagi prendre confiance, tester ses capacités, encouragée par Tsukiyomi et un Tota, toujours aussi revêche mais qui s’attendrit. Ce sont des dynamiques classiques mais efficaces.
Il faut dire que le joli dessin, tout doux et tout rond de Modomu Akagawara fait son petit effet. C’est joli tout plein de voir Nagi danser. La mise en scène des scènes d’action est énergique sous ses crayons également. Et les personnages ont un charme indéniable, qu’ils soient en mode normal, sérieux ou SD (super deformed). A nouveau, c’est un dessin assez lisse et typique mais qui fait le job à merveille.

J’ai hâte de poursuivre les aventures de notre apprentie kami à la recherche de son frère avec ses amies qui apprend en même temps à se connaître.

Après avoir dévoré le second tome, je me suis aussitôt jetée sur la suite. Et heureusement d’ailleurs, parce que ce troisième tome était absolument génial. Il se passe pas mal de choses qui finissent par changer l’histoire. De plus, elle va prendre une autre tournure et j’ai tant envie d’en savoir plus maintenant. Vraiment hâte de pouvoir lire le prochain tome! Surtout quand on voit que l’histoire prend un tournant, on s’attend vraiment a une suite incroyable!
Dans ce troisième tome, Nagi et ses amis se remettent à peine de leurs émotions après leur séjour en pleine montagne qu’ils doivent déjà commencer à réviser pour les examens de mi-trimestre ! Malheureusement pour elle, la lycéenne a un train de retard sur ses camarades et aurait bien besoin d’aide… Elle se tourne alors vers Tota, qui est un élève modèle, mais le jeune homme prétend ne pas pouvoir lui donner de coup de pouce… avant de lui laisser négligemment des livres utiles qu’il a empruntés à la bibliothèque. Peu après, lorsqu’elle veut les lui rendre, elle fait malencontreusement tomber la peluche de Takeru… qui s’est transformée en poupée maudite prête à attaquer les deux apprentis kami ! Nagi parviendra-t-elle à élucider ce mystère ?
Comme je viens de le dire, il se passe énormément de choses dans ce tome mine de rien. Déjà on découvre la vérité à propos du frère de Nagi. C’est quelque chose d’inattendu pour le coup et j’avoue que je n’aurais jamais pu penser ça une seule seconde. Ça nous prend complètement par surprise et comme je l’ai dit, ça va changer énormément de choses pour la suite de l’histoire. J’ai adoré ce tome qui se déroule uniquement dans le sanctuaire de la famille de Nagi. Ça donne un côté plus intimiste et j’ai beaucoup apprécié. Surtout en voyant ce qu’il se passe dans la seconde moitié du manga. J’ai vraiment adoré voir Nagi se préparer, préparer le sanctuaire etc. Les dernières pages étaient magnifiques à regarder, Nagi est resplendissante dans sa tenue de danseuse et la façon dont elle bouge c’était incroyablement beau. Par contre la fin nous promet une suite des plus intéressantes à suivre.. Je me demande ce qu’il va bien pouvoir se passer par la suite…

The mystery and tension just keep getting better!
Volume 3 of The Failure at God School completely blew me away. It was so incredibly engaging that I couldn't predict a single twist, and every page kept me guessing. The reveals were brilliantly executed, the overarching mystery is deepening, and the character development is fantastic. We finally get some crucial backstories, as well as some much-needed answers about her brother's behavior. Visiting Nagi's home was a highlight, and the visuals for her family shrine were stunning.
Beyond the plot, the artwork remains an absolute standout because the illustrator is incredibly talented. The character expressions and dynamic poses are expertly executed, and the attention to detail in the architecture and scenery is gorgeous. Plus (call me weird, whatever, haha!), I am obsessed with the traditional Japanese clothing design in this series!
The "will they, won't they" energy is as agonizingly good as ever. Even though it's still not clear if there will ever be an official romance arc in this manga, you can't help but imagine it happening. Nagi and Tsukuyomi are continuously thrown into these situations where, almost like destiny, they just end up drawn together. Combine that tension with the absolutely gorgeous art, and I am totally captivated.
I’m so delighted with this volume and can't wait to see where the story goes next.
P.S. If Touta ever officially enters the running as a love interest, Tsukuyomi is going to have some serious competition... though Tsukuyomi is absolute gold (and gives major Jinshi energy)!

Now that midterms are sneaking up on her, Nagi is stressed but determined to do well. Once she learns Touta has the best test scores, she seeks him out in hope that he can help. Unfortunately, things go awry once Touta sees the plushie her brother uses to stay in touch with her! Things make even less sense when he tears the plushie apart, revealing there’s a curse doll inside. This turn of events becomes illuminating in ways Nagi never could’ve predicted.
I’ve been enjoying this story a lot, so I was excited to finally pick this up! Otherwise, I was fully absorbed in the story. I’m looking forward to seeing where this goes and how the mystery plot will play out now that there’s been a big jump on that front. I’m also excited to get to know more of the characters since each volume has let us see behind the exterior of various folks.

Un excellent tome! J’adore la tournure que prend l’histoire. L’intrigue a été amenée d’une très belle façon, je ne m’attendais absolument pas à ça, mais ce n’est pas pour me déplaire, loin de là! Je suis prise dans l’histoire, je veux en savoir plus non seulement sur le plot, mais également sur chacun des personnages: qu’en est-il vraiment du frère de Nagi et du mystère qui l’entoure? À quel point les amis de Nagi vont s’impliquer dans cette intrigue? Est-ce que Tsukiyomi cache quelque chose? J’ai réellement hâte de découvrir la suite!

Still interesting. The first part was my favorite. I liked the school antics and her friends. Which then leads us to finding out more about the bigger mystery/story in this manga. Touta is so adorbs with his tsundere ways in this, that's not typically my fav but it works here. Tsukuyomi is so handsome I would love all gods to look like him. He has a bit of silliness that is adorable as well. I am enjoying this journey of Nagi becoming her own powerful god.

Trop bonne découverte ce manga ! L'histoire est trop cool, y'a un rythme hyper plaisant avec de bonnes révélations et on sait jamais à quoi s'attendre. Les perso sont attachants et on sent qu'il va y avoir de la romance hihi (même si je me doute que ça va prendre du temps)

Un excellent tome avec plein de rebondissements et des révélations sur l'héroïne et son frère qui donnent vraiment envie d'avoir la suite pour tout et mieux comprendre. L'intrigue est prenante et les dessins toujours aussi sympas à admirer. Pour l'instant, c'est un manga qui me plait beaucoup.

元気いっぱいの主人公がイケメン達に助けられて自分の神社を救う☆
みたいな王道ストーリーともいえるけど、こういうストーリーにありがちな「両親不在」じゃないし、ミステリ要素結構しっかりしてるし、他の登場人物が喋ってる時にツクヨミがひたすら和菓子貪り食べてる描写(そしてそれに気づいた主人公が次々餌付けしてる)のがウケる。
そしてトータも良い味出してきた。
ナギの弟、どうなってるのか気になる。
というか、踊ってるシーンでナギから弟へのシーン転換、良い。やっぱ漫画家って上手いんだな。

みたいな王道ストーリーともいえるけど、こういうストーリーにありがちな「両親不在」じゃないし、ミステリ要素結構しっかりしてるし、他の登場人物が喋ってる時にツクヨミがひたすら和菓子貪り食べてる描写(そしてそれに気づいた主人公が次々餌付けしてる)のがウケる。
そしてトータも良い味出してきた。
ナギの弟、どうなってるのか気になる。
というか、踊ってるシーンでナギから弟へのシーン転換、良い。やっぱ漫画家って上手いんだな。

This series has the potential to turn very dark, and it kinda has me on edge. Still curious to see where it will go though. The characters are interesting, and there was a major reveal in this volume.

Un peu plus d’action dans ce tome, qui donne envie d’en découvrir plus. J’avais tout de même beaucoup aimé les 2 premiers, les personnages, l’ambiance et les illustrations m’ont bien plu.
