When this proof popped through my letterbox last Friday, I just couldn’t believe my luck! This is my favourite thriller series, so I just couldn’t resist diving into this latest one straight away.
And what a rollercoaster of a ride it was: it was absolutely BRILLIANT! Eddie Flynn fans, you’re in for a real treat with this one.
Once more, Steve Cavanagh stuns and surprises with his cleverly written plot, which is intricately woven together like a spider’s web. I loved the different POVs, the different scenarios, and the wit and humour woven throughout.
I just love it when Eddie stands up to begin a trial in court: I get a tingle of excitement with the anticipation of seeing how he’s going to handle each case, and I adore seeing how he outwits his adversaries, and takes them down a peg or two.
Theres a lot more to this story than the courtroom though, and I loved seeing Bloch and Lake play a part in the action again. I was on tenterhooks the whole way through: wondering what was going to happen next, and who the guilty person was. For once, I did wonder if Eddie had backed the right person.
This is the tenth book in this series, and I just relished every page and chapter. It’s an action-packed, masterfully crafted read, and it’s my new favourite book in the series! 🙌🙌
I was sent a proof by the publishers in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Another great Eddie Flynn novel! One of Us is Guilty actually made me squeamish and that never happens. I love seeing what kind of antics Flynn and his team get up to. Such great characters and I love how well they work together. This was a great installment.
Thank you so much to Netgalley for giving me this free advance copy, and I’m writing this review honestly and without bias. I could quite easily sum up this review with one line Cavanagh + Flynn = 5 stars Yes, yes, yes! Steve Cavanagh has whacked his latest Eddie Flynn book way out of the park. This is a very clever put together plot that moves at a relentless pace and had me on the edge of my seat for the entire book. The courtroom scenes are so brilliantly done and Eddie proves why he is one of my most favourite characters in a book. There are twists and turns that will leave you gasping and oh my that ending - did not see that coming. Sheer brilliance. Steve Cavanagh is the absolute master of a courtroom drama and ten books in he is still very firmly at the top of his game. I have given every book in this series five stars and this one is no different. Outstanding
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an arc of this book. All opinions are my own!
Holy crap, I love this Eddie Flynn series so much. It genuinely just keeps getting better and better, and I honestly don't know how Steve Cavanagh still has ideas left because every book somehow manages to top the last one.
One of Us Is Guilty follows Patrick and Vanessa Vanderpool, a powerful couple whose lives are turned upside down when Patrick's mistress is found brutally murdered. With only two suspects and secrets everywhere, Eddie Flynn is pulled into another dangerous case where nothing is as straightforward as it seems.
This book had me punching my bed multiple times because I kept thinking, "Are you serious right now? That did not just happen." The twists were absolutely insane and delivered everything I want from a legal thriller. I was completely locked in from beginning to end. Cavanagh's knowledge of the legal world always shines through, and it makes these books feel so authentic.
I also loved how the story bounced between different characters and POVs without ever becoming confusing. Everything came together perfectly, and every perspective added something important to the bigger picture.
One thing I really appreciate about this series is that these books can absolutely be read as standalones, and you'd have no problem jumping in here. But following Eddie Flynn throughout the series and watching him grow has been amazing. He's not only a complete badass, but he's also incredibly smart, witty, and exactly the kind of lawyer you'd want on your side, even if he tends to do things the Eddie Flynn way.
Another phenomenal installment and easily one of my favorite legal thriller series ever. Read this immediately. You will not regret it.
Although I have all nine previous Eddie Flynn books sitting on my shelf, I somehow started the series with an advanced copy of One of Us Is Guilty instead… go figure!
If there’s ever been a sign to finally get my shit together and properly work my way through this series, this book was the sign that smacked some sense into me because I absolutely loved this.
The courtroom scenes were phenomenal, the writing had me completely immersed, and I could visualise everything so clearly it genuinely felt like a movie playing out inside my head while I was reading. Those short chapters combined with the pacing made this ridiculously addictive and I flew through it.
Throw in rich people superiority complexes, multiple POVs, corruption, layered reveals, courtroom drama and an ending I absolutely did not see coming, and this became exactly my kind of thriller.
This book was basically catnip for me. Safe to say I’ll now be heading back to finally start the Eddie Flynn series from the beginning because if One of Us Is Guilty was this good, I need to know what I’ve apparently been missing out on all this time.
Steve Cavanagh is one of my favorite authors and I eagerly await each of his releases, so when I got a bookseller proof copy I had to read it immediately. I knew Eddie Flynn 10 was going to be a big one and it absolutely did NOT disappoint!!
One of Us Is Guilty puts a wealthy, high-profile couple at the center of a gripping murder investigation. Eddie Flynn, as always, finds himself risking everything to uncover the truth and the stakes have truly never been higher. The book is packed with clever details and hidden clues, and I didn't see a single twist coming. ESPECIALLY that final chapter. Steve. You are brilliant.
I genuinely can't wait to get this into the hands of everyone and share this brilliant book with them!
At every stage you think you have the murderer figured out, and Eddie Flynn is having the wool pulled over his eyes. But of course he’s not, and he has more tricks up his sleeve than any prosecution in his way. Everything we have come to expect from a Steve Cavanagh book is in here, cunning, wit and brilliant story telling. Thank you to Netgalley for the advance reader copy.

4.5 stars rounded up to 5 stars.
Another great installment of the Eddie Flynn series! As can be expected with any Steve Cavanagh novel, One of Us Is Guilty was a complicated case with many moving parts. You think you have an idea of what is going on while also questioning how in the hell Eddie will be able to pull out an acquittal for his client. The case looks hopeless as the trial begins and you just hope all of your favorite characters make it out alive. When the final twists were revealed, I was gasping aloud and blindsided. As it should be with a true twist, all the clues were there but I did not connect the pieces until Cavanagh revealed them to me. I love that all the moving pieces and questions are accounted for and everything ties together in the end with your jaw left hanging on the floor. Love it and the entire Eddie Flynn series. The ONLY reason I am not giving this book 5 stars is because I felt there were times when Eddie was not 100% on his game and picking up on when he might have been being lied to or conned. Usually Eddie immediately spots it but there were times in which I thought he might be losing some of his edge. Otherwise, this would be an east 5 star read!
Steve Cavanagh really knows how to pull me straight back into Eddie Flynn’s world, and One of Us Is Guilty felt very much like him on form again. This had everything I enjoy about this series, the courtroom drama, the danger, the twists, and that brilliant cunningness that comes from Eddie being a con man as much as he is a lawyer. There is always something so satisfying about watching him work, because you know he is looking at things from an angle nobody else has quite considered, and I love that about him. I was really pleased to see Bloch play a bigger part in this one too. She has always been a character I have liked, but here it felt as though she had more space to step forward and actually be in the thick of it. I enjoyed seeing her in action more, rather than just hovering around the edges of Eddie’s story, because she brings a different energy and strength to the book. Eddie is still very much Eddie, of course, but Bloch gave this one an extra layer for me. The tension is there throughout the whole book, and Cavanagh does a brilliant job of keeping you unsure. I genuinely didn’t know what had happened, or whether the defendant was guilty or not, and that uncertainty kept me turning the pages. It is one of those books where you feel as though you are being given pieces of the truth, but never quite enough to put the full picture together. I liked that feeling of being kept on edge, and there were plenty of moments where I thought I had worked something out, only for the story to move in another direction. That said, I didn’t really take to Vanessa. I wanted to feel more for her, especially given her situation, but I found myself getting frustrated with how little she fought her own corner. I know not every character can react in the way you want them to, and people under pressure do not always behave logically, but it annoyed me that she often seemed unwilling, or unable, to properly speak up for herself. I found her quite hard to connect with because of that, and it did make some sections less gripping for me than they might have been. My biggest issue, though, was that I did feel a little lied to in places. I do not mind being misdirected in a thriller, in fact, I usually love it when it is done well, but there were a few inner monologues and thoughts that later turned out not to be true, and that grated on me. It felt as though some things had been included purely for shock factor, rather than because they naturally fit with what the characters knew or believed at the time. There is a difference between a clever twist and making the reader feel as though the rules have shifted after the fact, and this did slightly fall into that for me. The ending also left a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth. I had to reread it a few times because at first I thought I must have misunderstood something or that it was a mistake. Once I realised it was deliberate, and not something that had been overlooked or under-researched, I found it quite hard to come to terms with. The way the facts were essentially undone by a donation did not sit right with me. I can understand the point being made, and I can see why it was written that way, but it still left me feeling a little unsettled, and not entirely in the way I wanted. Even with those flaws, though, I thoroughly enjoyed the book as a whole. It was fast, tense, and clever, and it reminded me why I enjoy this series so much. Eddie Flynn books always have that extra spark to them, because they are not just legal thrillers, they have danger, heart, manipulation, and the kind of sharp plotting that keeps you reading far later than you meant to. This one was not perfect for me, and there were definitely a few things that frustrated me, but it was still a really strong read and another reminder that Steve Cavanagh knows exactly how to keep a reader hooked.
When I get an opportunity to read the latest Steve Cavanagh book-It goes straight to the top of my ARC pile-regardless of publication date! So here we are!
“The worst times of your life seem to last an age”
And, the book opens with Eddie Flynn having one of those moments-as he wakes up in the trunk of a moving car, wondering if when his abductors pull him out, he will be taking his last walk….
But, of course, we will have to circle back to that.
How did he end up in this predicament? It started FIVE MONTHS earlier with a MURDER….
Patrick Vanderpool, son of a billionaire media mogul, is running for Political Office but the affair he's having could derail everything.
Vanessa Vanderpool, is his wife, and she is not about to turn a blind eye to this affair. She has warned the young lady in question-Molly Green-to stay away from Patrick but she doesn’t appear to be listening.
She arrives at Molly’s apartment and waits until she sees her husband leave.
When the “OTHER WOMAN” is found brutally murdered, there are only two suspects.
Patrick and Vanessa
Was Molly dead when Vanessa arrived or was Vanessa the one who killed her?
ONE OF THEM IS GUILTY
The story unfolds through various viewpoints but mostly through those of Patrick, Vanessa and our FAVORITE Conman turned defense lawyer the VERY VERY CLEVER Eddie Flynn. Because both suspects are sharing their version of the truth, there is some repetition in the chapters, as parts of their story are identical-but parts are drastically different.
We find out how events led to this outcome beginning SIX weeks prior to the MURDER and then learn more about halfway through the book when the TRIAL begins-circling back to the trunk of the car BEFORE there is a verdict.
Since Eddie’s partner Kate left the law firm in the last book, it’s Eddie and Harry at the Defense table, and nothing could make me happier as Eddie will take RISKS at Trial which the straight laced Kate wouldn’t, making for a much more ENTERTAINING experience in the Courtroom.
Bloch (FEARLESS!) and Gabriel Lake are still investigating and Denise is still running the office so we get to catch up with them and others from earlier books. Although this can be read as a standalone, the relationships between the characters grow and evolve throughout the series, so it is beneficial to read them in order to appreciate that.
I was correct with many of my guesses, but there was a twist in the end that I didn’t suspect making this another COMPELLING read and nearly impossible to put down!
Will we get an Eddie Flynn book 11? I have no idea but I would be all for it, and that SPEAKS VOLUMES because as a general rule-I don’t like many series-but I can’t seem to get enough of this one!
Warning ⚠️ The Murders in this installment are pretty graphic!
A buddy read with my lovely friend Ceecee from the UK! I was delighted that we could read this one together and share our thoughts along the way! Be sure to watch for her review!
Expected publication date in the UK: July 30, 2026
Thank You to Headline Publishing and Steve Cavanagh for the gifted ARC provided through NetGalleyUK. As always, these are my candid thoughts!
4.5 stars Eddie Flynn #10 Eddie is back to three resounding cheers. Currently, Eddie is in the boot of a car, he knows the end could be near and as per usual, his ability to get himself into trouble is some kind of gift. How does he get there? This story starts five months previously with the brutal murder of Molly Green, assistant to Patrick Vanderpool, the son of billionaire Julian Vanderpool. Patrick has political ambitions and this could well jeopardise his chances of success especially as he has been having an affair with Molly. It’s obvious he will be a murder suspect alongside his wife Vanessa. One of them is guilty but which one? Eddie and his team need to learn the truth but they put themselves at great risk.
Steve Cavanagh is back with a bang. Right from the start, he has me scratching my head trying to figure it all out. First of all, why is Eddie brought into the defence team? These people are über rich and could have anyone and yet they pick our Eddie. Do they want a fall guy for some reason? If so, they don’t know Eddie. Secondly, some characters are really hard to read, even Eddie is perplexed and if he’s perplexed, I’m doubly so. At least one of them is up to something, that’s clear from the start, but what? We have to wait a while to find out and it’s clever.
There are several points of view (about five) but with this author it’s part of the plot ruse and there are two conflicting points of view which add to the conundrum of who is telling the truth. There are so many layers to it that it’s hard to discern and I love that air of uncertainty. There is some repetition and overlap and whilst I can see what the author is trying to do here, at times it’s almost word for word.
The courtroom scenes are, as usual, really good. There aren’t perhaps as many Eddie tricks but I love how he is prepared to challenge and keep challenging despite the odds that are stacked against him. I love the hits too about the law and those with money, power and thinking the rules are not applicable to them– more disruptors like Eddie are required! One character in particular has me apoplectic with anger at what he believes he can get away with. He is 100% odious.
The plot twist and turns, I like the pace it’s told at which perfectly suits the storyline. It’s scary in places with danger levels at Mach 1, it’s exciting, tense and suspenseful. I thoroughly enjoy some occasional bits of humour especially from one very colourful character with an equally colourful nickname. I like the ending, it’s good, I have worked part out but not all and everything slots neatly into place. However, after all the excellent buildup, it could maybe have had more oomph.
Overall though, it’s another cracker of a read, so buckle up as this one gets very bumpy.
With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Headline for the much appreciated in return for an honest review.
This was a great buddy read with my lovely friend Jayme - be sure to check out her review!
One of Us Is Guilty, is the tenth novel in the Eddie Flynn series by Steve Cavanagh. Conman turned defence lawyer Eddie Flynn must risk his life to find out. Eddie Flynn is a New York lawyer, having made the switch from a co artist and believes the two roles aren’t that different.
The story centres on New York’s absolute elite, the Vanderpools, a couple who seem to have it all, but are secretly built on a foundation of lies. Patrick Vanderpool, the son of a billionaire media mogul, is a man destined for immense political and societal power. But he has a weakness: an illicit affair that threatens to bring his entire future crashing down. Vanessa Vanderpool, married to one of America’s most influential men, is driven by her own fierce ambitions. Yet, she is trapped in the exact same toxic dynamic, knowing an affair could ruin everything she’s worked for.
When the “other woman” is discovered brutally murdered, the police are left with only two suspects. One of them is a cold-blooded killer. But which one? To solve an impossible case where two powerful people are pointing the finger at each other, you need a defence attorney who can see right through a performance. Enter Eddie Flynn.
Eddie isn’t your typical Ivy League lawyer. He’s a former New York con artist who traded a life of street hustles for a legal gown. In Eddie’s world, cross-examining a witness on the stand isn’t all that different from playing a mark on the street, both require reading a room, anticipating a lie, and manipulating human nature to your advantage.
But defending one half of a billionaire power couple isn’t just a legal challenge; it’s a death warrant. As Eddie steps into the crosshairs to uncover which Vanderpool is telling the truth, he quickly realises that powerful people will stop at nothing to keep their secrets buried, putting his own life squarely on the line.
This is an excellent addition to the Eddie Flynn series, One of Us Is Guilty proves how good Steve Cavanagh is. By only have two suspects, a husband and wife, the narrative creates a tense setting where every piece of evidence can be interpreted two different ways.
Eddie Flynn remains one of the most uniquely entertaining protagonists in crime fiction. Watching him use his street-smart grifter instincts to outmanoeuvre high-priced corporate attorneys and corrupt elite systems is an entertaining change from other legal thrillers. The novel is well paced with an intriguing plot.
I would like to thank both Netgalley and Headline for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Live Status Updates: 🔖Page 260 of 359 Chapter FORTY-EIGHT Bloch - I'm literally in the middle of a climactic scene, but I need to go to bed. I'm looking forward to completing this story tomorrow.
Final Thoughts: I enjoy learning legalese through fiction. I was unaware of how deep the Marital Confidences Privilege goes in New York compared to other states; when the author was explaining the law, I had to do a deep dive to discover if it was true. There was a previous book where they bent the law for the sake of fiction and I assumed this would be the same, but it was not. One of Us Is Guilty didn't quite deliver the same explosive "bomb" of intensity as the previous Eddie Flynn books I’ve read (I’m still waiting on #3 and #7 to be published in the US), but it was still a five-star read all the way through. It is nice to dive into a mystery where I genuinely couldn't figure everything out. I’ll likely be reading this again next year, as I’m sure one of my book clubs will snap it up as a selection. For those curious about the series: The first part definitely needs to be read in order, but the latter part is written in a standalone format where you can jump in anywhere and only get vague spoilers for the previous books instead of a direct continuation.
Recommend to others: Yes! With the way this man weaves a web for a novel, this series could probably go on for 50 books, and they would all be good.

Patrick Vanderpool is the heir to a media empire. His wife, Vanessa, is determined to protect her family's power at any cost. When Patrick's mistress, Molly Green, is found brutally murdered, both become prime suspects in a case where lies are currency and the truth is buried beneath layers of wealth, influence, and manipulation. Enter Eddie Flynn, the former conman turned defense attorney who has built a career on spotting what everyone else misses. As he digs deeper into Molly's death, it becomes clear that someone is playing a very dangerous game, and Eddie may be the next target.
At this point, Eddie Flynn has earned his place among the most beloved characters in thriller fiction, and somehow Steve Cavanagh keeps finding new ways to make him shine. Every time I finish one of these books, I tell myself there is no way the next installment can possibly top it. Every time, I am wrong. The plotting here is so sharp and so deceptively clever that I spent the entire book trying to get one step ahead, only to discover Cavanagh was ten moves ahead of me. The twists don't feel manufactured; they feel authentic, unfolding with the kind of precision that makes you immediately want to start the book over and see what clues you missed the first time.
What I love most about this series is that it never settles for simply being a legal thriller. These books are puzzles, character studies, and adrenaline-fueled page-turners all at once. The tension is relentless, the reveals are jaw-dropping, and Eddie remains the perfect guide through the chaos because he is every bit as clever as the reader hopes he will be. 𝐎𝐍𝐄 𝐎𝐅 𝐔𝐒 𝐈𝐒 𝐆𝐔𝐈𝐋𝐓𝐘 is another absolute knockout from Steve Cavanagh and proof that this series isn't just maintaining its quality, it's somehow getting better with every single book. Many thanks to Headline for the early copy that publishes in the UK July 30, 2026.
The 10th book in the fabulous Eddie Flynn series is here! In this instalment, the rich and powerful Patrick Vanderpool’s affair is a huge risk to his campaign for governor. And when the other woman is found brutally murdered, both he and his wife are the clear suspects.
With Patrick’s family empire behind him, his wife Vanessa is quickly put on trial and Eddie’s the man they want to represent her. But can Eddie trust her when she says it was her husband who killed Molly, and not her?
Steve Cavanagh has absolutely smashed it yet again! Honestly this series just gets better and better, and I am so addicted! Eddie Flynn is just the BEST lead character for me. He’s always several steps ahead of the most depraved criminals, and lawyers! And I love that I can just get fully absorbed in the story, knowing that it’s going to be a clever, twisty ride and that things won’t end up being what they first seem!
It’s always a comfort settling back into a new story with our usual favourite characters - Harry (and Clarence the dog), Bloch and Lake. I’ve missed them! And they’re as funny and brilliant as ever.
And as always with this series, I went on a wild journey with Eddie, from the first chapter which glimpses ahead to a sticky situation Eddie finds himself in towards the end of the trial, to him and his team wading through Vanessa and Patrick’s lies, to the final twist just when I thought we had all the pieces of the puzzle put into place!
Everything is so intricately and cleverly plotted so that we can’t possibly understand everything until the end - but Eddie, of course, notices everything and he always knows when he’s being lied to!
And the writing, as ever, is snappy, urgent, and compelling. You can feel what’s coming next, and it’s irresistible when Eddie gets one up on the prosecution and, well, everyone who’s against him!
I’m just obsessed with this amazing series and am just going for a small cry now that I have to wait another year for more!
Book 10 in the fantastic Eddie Flynn series, One Of Us Is Guilty explodes out of the gate with a gripping, high energy opening that immediately pulls you in. Told through a multitude of POVs, but it’s the perspectives of the two main suspects that truly hook you they keep you constantly questioning everything. As always, the courtroom scenes are brilliantly written sharp, tense, and utterly compelling. Steve once again proves he’s at the top of his game when it comes to legal thrillers. But this time, there’s an added level of action woven throughout, giving the story an extra edge and making it even harder to put down. The plot is incredibly clever, full of twists that will have you second guessing yourself at every turn. Just when you think you’ve figured it out, the story shifts and pulls the rug out from under you. I managed to guess one part of the twist and felt quite pleased with myself but the other completely caught me off guard. Eddie himself is, as always, a master of outfoxing everyone around him. Watching him piece things together and stay one step ahead is a huge part of what makes this series so addictive. This might just be his best outing yet. As always Harry, Bloch, and Lake are all standout characters who add depth and personality to the story. You can’t help but feel like you’d love to sit down with them all for a dinner party, how fascinating would that be? The ending is absolutely first class smart, impactful, and perfectly executed. This is one of those books that completely takes over your time in the best possible way. Once you start, you won’t want to stop. Im honestly surprised this series hasn’t been picked up for a TV adaptation yet. While it can be read as a standalone, I’d highly recommend diving into the entire Eddie Flynn series to fully appreciate just how brilliant these books are.
Patrick Vanderpool is the son of a billionaire mogul and destined for power. But the affair he’s having could ruin everything. Vanessa Vanderpool is married to one of the most influential men and has her own ambitions. But the affair could ruin this also. When a woman is found brutally murdered, there are only two suspects and one of them is guilty. Eddie Flynn and his team are called, risking it all to find out.
It’s not a secret that the Eddie Flynn series is one of my favourites and Steve Cavanagh is a preferred author of mine, so it’s only to be expected that this would go to the top of my reading pile. Book ten in the series did not disappoint, with each book getting more and more clever. This was another multi layered plot, filled with twists, secrets and gripping court room scenes. I love the way Eddie’s mind works, having a lot of fun watching the moves he makes to stay on top of his cases and get justice. I enjoyed catching up with the rest of the cast of characters also, all are very strongly portrayed and each offer something original. I especially enjoy the scenes with Bloch, finding her a fascinating character.
This was a fast paced, suspenseful read and definitely does not shy away from dark themes, however there is still the trademark witty humour that balances this well. There were plenty of action packed scenes to keep me gripped to the pages and a very satisfying conclusion! The author is the master of the final shocking twist.
Even though this is a part of a series, it can be read as a standalone, however I would encourage everyone to read the previous first to not miss out on this great series and build some backstory. I can’t wait to read more from this talented author and hopefully it won’t be too long until there will be more of Eddie Flynn! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this copy in return for an honest review.
Steve Cavanagh has done it again!!! I’m convinced he cannot write a bad book.
One of Us Is Guilty is the tenth installment in the Eddie Flynn series. While each book can absolutely be enjoyed as a standalone, the recurring cast of characters is one of my favorite parts of the series, so I always recommend starting from the beginning if you can.
For anyone new to the series, Eddie Flynn is a former con man turned criminal defense attorney who only takes cases when he genuinely believes his client is innocent. His background makes him unlike any other fictional lawyer I’ve read. He's constantly thinking several steps ahead, spotting details everyone else misses, and coming up with unconventional ways to defend his clients.
This time, Eddie represents Vanessa Vanderpool, the wife of a wealthy gubernatorial candidate and daughter-in-law of one of the most powerful men in the country. Vanessa is accused of murdering Molly Green, a staffer on her husband’s campaign, and from there the story spirals into something much darker and far more twisted than I ever expected.
This book is dark, shocking, and completely insane. Every time I thought I had things figured out, Steve Cavanagh pulled the rug out from under me. His plotting is so intricate, yet everything fits together perfectly by the end. I was completely invested from the first chapter and flew through this book.
One of the things I love most about this series is that it’s never just about Eddie. The investigators, detectives, and recurring side characters are such a good found family.
If you’re looking for a legal thriller that is fast-paced, brilliantly plotted, and packed with jaw-dropping twists, you can’t go wrong with this series. Steve Cavanagh continues to prove why he’s one of my favorite thriller authors, and I’ll be reading every Eddie Flynn book he writes.
This author just keeps getting better and better! His latest book is suspenseful, mysterious and compelling with so many twists and turns and although I thought I’d worked out what was happening before the end I wasn’t completely right! When Molly Green, researcher to political hopeful, Patrick Vanderpool, is found murdered in her apartment, Patrick’s wife Vanessa is accused after an affair between the two is suspected. Patrick is also in the frame but manages to avoid being arrested. However the evidence is not clear and when Eddy Flynn, defence attorney extraordinaire is asked to defend Vanesa things become very dangerous as Patrick’s powerful father threatens Eddie as he doesn’t want his son in gaol for the crime. The story is told from many viewpoints but the tension never diminishes. I couldn’t put the book down until I knew what had actually happened. The truth is only revealed at the very end! Steve Cavanagh certainly knows how to write a thriller and hold the reader’s attention -I don’t know how he does it! I liked the way the author told the story from all the different perspectives including Bloch’s, Eddie’s plucky gung ho female investigator and the accused, Vanessa as well as Patrick’s - this made the plot all the more interesting and indeed it was difficult to work out who was telling the truth- unreliable narrators spring to mind. Bravo Steve Cavanagh, you’ve written another winner here and I highly recommend it whether you are an avid fan of Eddie or new to these legal thrillers you will definitely enjoy “One Of Us Is Guilty” Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for my advance copy.
The Eddie Flynn series has become one of my all-time favorites, and every time I open a new installment, it feels like catching up with old friends. I love the relationships between Eddie and his team, and one of the things Cavanagh does so well is letting those relationships grow naturally throughout the series. While every book can absolutely be read as a standalone, longtime readers are rewarded by seeing these characters evolve over time. He gives just enough backstory to keep new readers grounded without ever slowing the pace.
This may be one of the strongest entries in the series yet.
When a powerful husband and wife both become suspects in the brutal murder of the husband's mistress, everyone seems to be lying, and every new revelation changes what you think you know. The plotting is unbelievably intricate, with timelines, clues, courtroom strategy, and twists that all fit together flawlessly. Just when I thought I had something figured out, Cavanagh pulled the rug out from under me.
I started this over a holiday weekend and finished it in less than 24 hours because I simply could not put it down. The courtroom scenes are as sharp and addictive as ever, the tension never lets up, and Eddie Flynn continues to be one of the best protagonists in crime fiction.
If you haven't started this series yet, do yourself a favor and pick up book one, The Defense. If you're already an Eddie Flynn fan, you're in for a treat. This is Steve Cavanagh at the top of his game.
Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for the advance copy. All opinions are my own.
Steve Cavanagh is back with the tenth installment in the Eddie Flynn series, One of Us Is Guilty, and I couldn't wait to see what Eddie was getting himself into this time. Cavanagh is one of the most consistently entertaining authors I read, and once again he delivers everything I've come to expect. Sharp wit, courtroom drama, clever twists, and a story that's nearly impossible to put down. Another fantastic addition to an already outstanding series!
If you enjoy thrillers that are gripping without being overly dark, this series is a perfect fit. It's always fun catching up with familiar faces, and I was happy to see Bloch (always FEARLESS!), Gabriel Lake, Denise, and several other returning characters back in the mix. While this book works as a standalone, the relationships between the characters continue to grow throughout the series, so reading the novels in order makes those moments even more rewarding.
The story is told from multiple points of view, primarily Patrick, Vanessa, and, of course, our favorite con man turned defense attorney, the incredibly clever Eddie Flynn. Since both suspects tell their version of what happened, there are moments where the stories overlap. But don't let that fool you. The similarities only make the differences more intriguing, and figuring out who's telling the truth is half the fun.
Will there be an Eddie Flynn #11? I have no idea, but if there is, I'll be first in line. This series is consistently clever, fast-paced, and ridiculously fun to read. Every new installment is an absolute blast!
Many thanks to NetGalley, Headline, and Steve Cavanagh for an advance copy. All opinions are my own.
I always love seeing a new instalment in my favourite thriller series - Eddie Flynn is such a unique protagonist, and I love seeing the difficult cases he gets himself into!
This case was pretty exciting (as we have learned to expect by now), and as per usual, my favourite section was definitely the trial: I just love seeing the games that Eddie plays with the whole courtroom, and sifting through the layers of lies and corruption was really satisfying.
What I especially liked about this book was the amount of action that we got to see with some of the wider cast. Bloch and Lake are a super fun duo, and it was nice seeing them play a bigger role in this book! I didn’t think that the mystery had as many twists and turns as previous instalments in the series, so I was glad to have the action to bring some of that same excitement.
The ending had a bit too much of “I’m just going to sit down and reveal everything”, whereas I usually prefer to see this unfold over time. Some details were also left hanging, which left me feeling a bit like we as the audience were misled for no reason, but luckily most of the story did get wrapped up in a way that made sense.
Overall though, I definitely think that you would enjoy this book if you’ve read any of the other Eddie Flynn books! Although all of the books in this series can be read as a stand-alone thriller, I really recommend reading the others first to get a better grip of some of the characters.
Thank you to NetGalley and Headline for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
4.5 stars for this 10th instalment in the always enjoyable Eddie Flynn series.
Here Eddie and his team find themselves defending the wife of a prominent politician who is accused of murdering and beheading one of his female aids. But it seems the husband, who isn’t the faithful type, was having an affair with the aid and the wife says that it was he who committed the murder.
Not only is he a prominent politician, he is the son of a multimillionaire media mogul who won’t let his sons political career be sidetracked, especially with an election coming up and will do anything to make sure he remains untouched.
As Eddie and the team dig further into the investigation they soon discover that this goes deeper than the husband and wife, with corrupt police and judges and a lawless rich elite capable of anything, putting Eddie, his team and his family in immediate danger.
I really loved this one. A mixture of mystery/thriller and court drama, the story is expertly weaved as the layers are slowly peeled back. The ultimate page turner, I found it hard to put this one down.
The only slight criticism I have, and this may come down to personal taste, I found the ending dragged on a little too long with one too many reveals than felt necessary.
It’s the only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars and marking it a 4 ( well 4.5 ) but I really did love this book and would highly recommend it.
Many thanks to the publisher for the ARC through Netgalley.
I've read several of Steve Cavanagh's books and every one has been a brilliant read. One of Us Is Guilty is another gripping addition to the Eddie Flynn series and reminded me exactly why this remains one of my favourite crime thriller franchises.
Eddie Flynn is such a fantastic lead character. A former con man turned defence lawyer, he's clever, resourceful and not afraid to bend the rules when the situation demands it. Despite his sharp edges, he's also a devoted father, a flawed ex-husband and someone genuinely driven by a desire to uncover the truth and deliver justice. He feels incredibly real and is impossible not to root for.
One of the things I love most about this series is the supporting cast. Gabriel Lake continues to be a standout character. His unique understanding of criminal psychology, combined with his unassuming nature, makes him a fascinating addition to Team Flynn. Melissa Bloch is equally brilliant. Tough, perceptive and fearless, she often feels like the team's secret weapon when situations become dangerous. Harry Ford also brings wisdom and experience to the group, providing Eddie with invaluable guidance when the stakes are highest.
As for the plot, this book had everything I want from a thriller: mystery, intrigue, plenty of suspects, shocking twists and a genuinely compelling whodunnit at its heart. The story kept me guessing throughout and every new revelation added another layer to an already complex case. Just when I thought I had things figured out, another surprise was waiting around the corner.
Fast-paced, intelligent and hugely entertaining, this is another winner from Steve Cavanagh. Whether you're already a fan of Eddie Flynn or new to the series, this is a thriller well worth picking up.
Thank you to NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
Steve Cavanagh has done it again. One of Us is Guilty is a tense, addictive legal thriller that grabbed me from the first chapter and never let go.
What I love most about Cavanagh's books is his ability to combine clever courtroom drama with genuine suspense, and this novel delivers both in abundance. The plot is packed with twists, but they never feel forced. Every revelation feels earned, and just when I thought I had everything figured out, another surprise changed the game.
Eddie Flynn remains one of the most compelling protagonists in modern crime fiction—smart, flawed, and endlessly entertaining to follow. The supporting cast is equally strong, with enough ambiguity to keep you questioning everyone's motives throughout the story.
The pacing is relentless, making this one of those books that's impossible to put down. Short chapters, sharp dialogue, and expertly planted clues create a constant sense of tension. Even when I suspected where the story was heading, Cavanagh still managed to surprise me with how it all came together.
If you're a fan of legal thrillers, mystery novels, or books that keep you guessing until the very end, One of Us is Guilty is an easy recommendation. Another superb entry in the Eddie Flynn series and further proof that Steve Cavanagh is one of the best thriller writers working today.
Big thank you to NetGalley and Headline for the ARC
One Of Us is Guilty is another tough case for Eddie Flynn with enemies that have no compunction in murdering people involved desperate to stop him defending a murder case. Patrick Vanderpool son of a ruthless billionaire media mogul is canvassing to become a state governor and having an affair with one of his assistants. When this assistant is found murdered and beheaded his wife Vanessa is caught on security camera entering the mistresses apartment building that same evening. Accused of murder Eddie is hired to defend her. Eddies job is made extremely difficult and dangerous with corrupt officials from police officers and even the presiding judge being involved. With Eddies investigators uncovering secrets it leaves his team and family being in perilous situations. But Eddie is no coward and such a fighter he’s determined to get to the truth. His cross examination in the court case is brilliant as are all his legal arguments and how he handles the prosecutor and the Judge. There are moments of levity that had me laughing out loud. Action packed, jaw dropping scenes this is another exciting rollercoaster of a read, with a cast of well described characters and a storyline that is remarkably clever and incisive. Congratulations Mr Cavanagh another sure fire winner. My thanks to net galley and publisher for the opportunity to review this book honestly
