I like violent stuff. Gore and ero-guro included. I don't consider myself a beacon of moral cleanliness. Even I found this one a bit much.
(I'm gonna be talking mostly about the one based off Furuta's murder since it's the largest and most sensationalist chapter)
The fact that this was written to tantalize makes me want to give. I know Uziga's prime objective was to be shocking, but this is more eye-rolling than eye-widening. Makes me wonder if the author himself fapped to the news reports over this.
For anyone that does not know, Junko Furuta was a 17-year-old girl kidnapped by a trio of worthless human beings on her way home from her part-time job. She was holed up in one of their homes and subjected to horrible dehumanizing tortures and rape for over a month until she passed away. They disposed of her corpse in a cement drum, hence she became "the schoolgirl encased in concrete".
Call me a hypocrite, but I wouldn't have minded the cruelty within if it weren't based off something that actually happened. Then you could just chalk it up to fantasym If this were meant to be bring light to the cruelty this young lady faced in her last days it would be a different story, or if the purpose was to highlight the human condition and how cruel and vile we can be to one another. But that's impossible, as anyone familiar with the author knows that his primary objectives are titillation and being as shocking as possible. This is fetish stuff. No depth whatsoever. Just wank rag for people who get off on knowing this is based off a real girl's horrible death.
Subject aside, this actually contains some of Uziga's worst artwork. Now that I'm older I'm kind of on the fence about his art in general. His color images actually aren't bad, and the gore looks pretty good. Can't say the same about the actual in-chapter stuff. I dunno. Maybe he overuses tone. He makes his girls look stereotypically adorable (and same-faced) and goes out of the way to make their torturers ugly as fuck. I dunno if it's shorthand or just to add to the victim's humiliation. Whatever.
I have experience reading Uziga's works and I have to say "Schoolgirl in Concrete" or Shin Gendai Ryoukiden has got to be the most brutal of all his art.
The reason why the story is so gut-wrenching is because it's based on the true story of the murder of Junko Furuta.
There is just something uncanny about looking at this graphic depiction of reality that becomes too much for the reader to stomach. The level of violence is expected of Uziga, however this work not only defaces the victim and victim's family more, but he also makes a profit from her murder. I'm not easily morally-inclined, however this manga should have never been created.
The level of detail wasn't his best either, but that's probably for the best.
It’s just so ugly to even think about making a manga like this, i still can’t believe that the mangaka thought it would be okay if he just made a manga about such a sensitive case like this.
Junko Furuta suffered for 44 days she lived in actual hell and someone really thought it would be a very cool idea to make a manga or a movie or whatever the fuck. I only read about 4 pages and when I knew which case they were talking about i got chills of how horrible this is, I genuinely hate whoever created this shit and whoever enjoyed reading it because THIS IS NOT FUCKING OK
Gave it three stars because he gave us another view of this.
These guys are sadly living a normal life now, even they were involved in more incidents. The japanese goverment apparently don‘t give a f*ck if someone gets tortured or raped. They should have been put in jail for life at least, but no... "teens are just messing" ..."teens deserve another chance", like seriously, if you torture, rape and kill someone for 44 days at a age of 16, you aren‘t just a teen in your head. Stupid teens may steal some shit, but people who do that to a innocent person don‘t deserve to take another breath on this planet. One of them was already 18 and he got out a few years later.
Those guys are lucky that i‘m not the victims brother, because they would experience what hell is.
I’m not going to review this except for that I don’t think that this deserved a star. This is a true crime case of a girl who never deserved any of this and didn’t even get her justice after she died. It even state’s somewhere that one of the people who did this to her has apparently bragged about it proudly. It’s truly disgusting and vile. And I would probably read up the Wikipedia page of what happened to her and treat this with uttermost respect since it’s a real human being. So anyone who reads this to get off: please seek some mental help, you need it.
I don’t want to throw shade at the manga artist since I hope he just made this manga to highlight how unfair this case is and that it should never be forgotten or happen again.
And lastly I just wanted to leave this here to remind everyone that this girl isn’t just a true crime sensation but someone who had a future and a life (in case some idiots might jerk off to this or simply read this for kicks):
Furuta was born in Misato, Saitama Prefecture. She lived with her parents, her elder brother, and her younger brother. As a teenager, she attended Yashio-Minami High School and worked part-time at a plastic molding factory during after school hours since October 1988. She did this to save up money for a graduation plan she had arranged. Furuta also accepted a job at an electronics retailer, where she planned on working after graduation. At high school, Furuta was well-liked by her classmates, with high grades and very infrequent absences.
I’m really strong-minded and brutal scenes don’t touch me. But here we have a eroguro manga based on tragedy that actually happened. I see it as a kind of disrespect to the victim’s family and victim herself. I do know that this author has more manga of this genre but this particular one made my hands shake. It also disgust me that he made a profitable manga about a murder that actually happened! I repeat myself, I know, but it’s just beyond common sense that I know. Please, don’t read it if you’re afraid of blood and many kinds of violence. To be honest I wish I never read this.
I feel shame for picking it up and reading it. I did ir purly out of my human curiousity. I love horror and read alot of fucked up things. But considering most of this work ir around a true crime made me feel ill. Feels so disrespectful to the victims family. And i feel like me reading this made me part of the issue.
I should have heard about it and moved on. Not let my curiousity lead the way.
I hate this so much, fucking disgusting and disrespectful to the victim and her family. It's abhorrent of someone to take a real life case as gruesome, tragic, and horrible as Junko Furuta's and glorify it by turning it into a manga. I've never been so disgusted
What the hell?! This is manga was based off of a poor girl who went through a lot of pain, seriously? This is disgusting. Its super gross that someone would make a manga based off of Junko Furuta, a girl who suffered for a long time.
This was fucking sickening. The fact the author is confirmed to have a guro fetish. For those who don’t know the definition of ‘guro’ is: Ero guro is an artistic genre that puts its focus on eroticism, sexual corruption, and decadence. As a term, it is used to denote something that is both erotic and grotesque. . This case is very real and should not be portrayed like this. JUNKO DID NOT HAVE ‘sex’ SHE WAS RAPED AND KIDNAPPED. SHE WAS MURDERED.
This was the absolute worst thing that I have ever read. It’s been years since I read it and I can’t forget what was in it, in fact I didn’t even finish it. I can handle gore and such but this was an actual case that happened to a poor girl who didn’t deserve any of this. Absolute garbage is what this is.
So profiting off junko furuta’s REAL life story should not be normalized. If you don’t know who she is let me explain.
Junko, a 16-year-old high school student, had just been living her life — studying, laughing, dreaming. She was from Misato, and like many teens in Japan, she lived her life with hopes of a bright future. By all accounts, Junko was the kind of young woman everyone admired. She didn’t fit the typical rebellious stereotype often associated with teenagers. In fact, Junko was known for her good behavior — she didn’t smoke, she didn’t drink, and she certainly didn’t do drugs. Her life was one of discipline, hard work, and promise. At school, she was a standout — not just for her striking beauty but for her kindness, her warmth, and her ability to make friends easily. She was popular yet humble. A model student with a contagious smile that brightened even the dullest of days. Junko lived with her parents and her two brothers in a modest home. She was the middle child — her life filled with the typical ups and downs of sibling dynamics but always grounded by the love and support of her family. After school, Junko balanced the demands of her academic life with a part-time job, where she worked tirelessly to contribute to her family. She didn’t just dream of a bright future; she worked hard every day to make it a reality. Her future, it seemed, was filled with endless possibilities — college, career, perhaps even a family of her own one day. Junko had the world at her feet and the potential to do whatever she desired. Now, as I mentioned earlier, Junko was not only a model student but also strikingly beautiful — and her beauty didn’t go unnoticed. She caught the attention of many of the boys at school, but there was one in particular who seemed to take more than just a casual interest in her. His name was Hiroshi Mayano. At 18 years old, Hiroshi was no ordinary high school student. He was known around school as a bit of a bully — someone who walked the halls with a sense of entitlement. He drove flashy, expensive sports cars, wore the most exclusive designer clothes, and surrounded himself with a tight-knit group of friends who followed his every move. To many, Hiroshi was untouchable, a figure who commanded fear and respect in equal measure. And there were whispers about him — rumours that swirled through the school like wildfire. Hiroshi was allegedly affiliated with the Yakuza, Japan’s notorious organized crime syndicate. For those unfamiliar, the Yakuza is a criminal organization that dates back to the 17th century. They are known for their involvement in extortion, blackmail, drug trafficking, prostitution, gambling, and a host of other illegal activities. Their reach is long, and their reputation is terrifying. With ties to an organization like the Yakuza, it’s no wonder that Hiroshi was feared by many at the school. Most students kept their distance, intimidated by the power and violence that seemed to follow him wherever he went. But Junko, despite her reputation for kindness and politeness, was different. One day, Hiroshi approached her, asking her out. And when she politely, but firmly, turned him down, many were left in shock. No one told Hiroshi “no.” He wasn’t used to it, and certainly not from someone like Junko — someone who had everything to lose and nothing to gain from getting on the wrong side of someone like him. Yet, Junko remained gracious, always sweet and respectful, but her decision was final. For Hiroshi, this moment would plant the seed for something darker — a moment of rejection that would slowly twist into something much more sinister. The Abduction of Junko It all began on November 25, 1988. That day, Junko was riding her bike home from her part-time job when she came across Hiroshi and his friend, Shinji Minato. Hiroshi had ordered Shinji to kick Junko off her bike, and then he would pretend to rescue her. This was his way of trying to impress her so that maybe she would change her mind about him. Of course, she wouldn’t. After Junko was knocked to the ground, Hiroshi helped her up and offered to escort her home and keep her safe. Of course, Hiroshi had no intent of helping her at all and he certainly was not going to walk her home. He tricked her as they walked together, luring her into an abandoned warehouse. There, he sexually assaulted Junko, threatening to kill her if she screamed for help. This would just be the beginning of the absolute hell that Junko had to endure. Hiroshi had no intention of letting Junko go, even if she complied with his demands. When he was finished raping her at the warehouse, he dragged her to a hotel and continued to repeatedly force himself upon her. He was so excited about his conquest, patting himself on the back, that he had to call his friends to come see. He called Shinji Minato, the boy who had kicked Junko off of her bike, and his other friends, Jō Ogura and Yasushi Watanabe. At this point, his friends wanted to join in on the rape. They had all previously participated in the gang rape of a different girl one time before. That girl was lucky enough to be let go once they were finished, but Junko would not be. Around 3 AM, Hiroshi took Junko to a nearby park with his friends. You might think this could be her opportunity to escape. However, they had found her home address from a notebook in her backpack and told her that they knew where she lived and that Yakuza members would kill her family if she attempted to escape. The boys decided to keep her held hostage so that they could continue to abuse her, but they needed a more private place to do this. They took Junko to Shinji’s house in Adachi, Tokyo, as his parents were out of town. Once there, Junko was ordered to call her family and tell them that she was safe. So she did what she was told because of their threats. She was forced to say that she had run away, but she was safe and just staying with a friend. She was also forced to ask her mother to stop the police investigation into her disappearance. Unfortunately, this phone call to her parents would be a huge mistake, preventing just about any chance of her rescue. She couldn’t possibly begin to guess the unimaginable horrors that lay ahead of her for the next forty-four days. Things could have been stopped here, but they weren’t. Eventually, Shinji’s parents would come home from their trip and find this unknown young girl — Junko — in their house. Junko was initially told to pretend to be the girlfriend of one of the kidnappers. However, Shinji’s parents eventually realized that Junko wasn’t there by her own free will. They did literally nothing to help her. Actually, they assured the boys that they wouldn’t call the police on them. According to the parents’ statement that they would later give, they knew of Hiroshi’s Yakuza affiliation and said that they were worried about retaliation for getting involved. They were also afraid of their own son, Shinji, who was known to be extremely violent towards them. So this poor girl continued to be held captive, raped, and tortured in the most brutal of ways, and they did absolutely nothing to help her. Even as they heard her screams and cries coming from the room she was held captive in, they ignored it. *I’m going to go through a list of just some of the things that were done to Junko, and this is a trigger warning. Disturbing content ahead.* Junko was humiliated and kept naked most of the time. She was raped every day, both vaginally and anally, by more than 100 men. Hiroshi had invited other affiliated gang members over to participate in the rapes of the 16-year-old Junko, and it’s estimated that she had been raped over 500 times. At one point, she was raped by 12 different men in one single day. They would often use her as a toilet, urinating on her when they had finished doing what they had to do. The degradation was just starting. They amused themselves by inserting objects in her anus and vagina, including a bottle, an iron bar, scissors, a hot light bulb, roasting needles, grilled chicken skewers, and a lit firework. Beyond that, they starved Junko, and they forced her to eat live cockroaches and drink her own urine to survive. Junko often had to sleep naked on the balcony during the winter, and in Japanese winters, the temperature tends to drop below zero. Likewise, they would force her to sit for hours in a freezer. The boys also hung her from the ceiling, where they would beat her with golf clubs, iron rods, and bamboo sticks. One of the most revolting acts occurred when they took a pair of pliers to her nipple, and they ripped it off. At one point, when she was about twenty days into her kidnapping, halfway through the whole ordeal, the attackers were resting after drinking a little bit too much, so she tried to call the police. Unfortunately, she was caught and punished by having her feet set on fire by burning lighter fluid, and they burned her eyelids with hot wax and lighters. This would be the first of two phone calls made to the police. One of the friends of the boys who had participated in one of the Junko’s sexual assaults suddenly developed a conscience and decided that he felt guilty. He would allege that he was bullied into participating in the rape, he never wanted to do it — and he felt guilty, so he told his parents. As a result, they sent the police out to Shinji’s house to investigate. When the officers arrived at the home where Junko was still being held captive and tortured, they first spoke to Shinji’s parents, who owned the house. These parents decided to lie and cover for the boys, telling officers that there wasn’t any girl being held captive in their home. They also invited the police inside and to have a look for themselves if they wanted to, which completely threw the authorities off guard. So, the officers assumed that all must be well. They thought — if there truly was a girl being held against her will, surely these parents wouldn’t invite them in, right…? The police declined the invitation and left without checking the house. This poor girl was absolutely fighting for her life at this point, enduring things that I can’t imagine anyone surviving. If the parents were afraid to go to the police themselves for fear of retribution, one might be able to somewhat understand. However, they were given the opportunity to say something to the police who were already at their door, and they didn’t. They kept their mouths shut. I have to hope that they invited the police in because they really wanted them in there to see what was happening for themselves. But, unfortunately, for Junko, this wasn’t to be. Had the police searched the house and actually gone in and located Junko, she may have well recovered from her injuries. The two police officers who went to the door were later fired for failing to follow procedures. On the forty-fourth day, the final day of Junko’s life, the boys challenged Junko to a game of Mahjong. This is a popular card game of skill, strategy, and calculation, and it involves a degree of chance. It’s very popular in Asian countries. Junko won the game. Now, I have no idea how she was in any state to participate in such a card game, let alone win the game, but she did. Junko was strong. She was a fighter. Of course, Junko winning made them angry. So they treated her to a beating with an iron barbell and fire by setting her legs, arms, face, and stomach alight after pouring lighter fluid on them. Being already badly beaten, dehydrated, and malnourished, Junko’s body went into shock. She had simply endured enough and could not go on any further. She died the following day. Now the group of boys had to get rid of the body — so they wrapped her up in blankets and shoved her body into a travel bag. They then put her body into a 55-gallon drum and filled it with wet concrete. Around 8 PM that night, they disposed of the drum in Tokyo. It wasn’t until a year later that her body was found after a construction worker noticed a foul odour coming from the drum. When the body was recovered, it was discovered that Junko was pregnant when she was killed, likely as a result of one of hundreds of rapes.
Anyway I found this on medium so credits to nikki young for doing this podcast
(This is to those who want to read it, I beg u to not read it if u can't handle gore or if ur someone that can get easily disturbed, I Beg u to stay as far away from this manga as u can, I regret reading it)
I found this manga, not only disturbing, But very Disgusting too...this manga felt as if it was made to mock those women who went through such things IRL. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate awareness about potential situations that can Make u end up changing ur life...but like this? If the manga was only created for shock-factor, then congrats...u shocked, disturbed and disgusted me at the same time then I have ever been before.
There is a limit and I think it was clear you reached it when your (I think) editors asks you to make a story based in a sad and twisted true crime that till today is controversial and treat it in a inhuman way....yeah is based in but the acts are fictional but how describes it is just....disgusting again the art is oke, the stories are short and empty...is not worth it to read even like the Mai-chan daily life that at the end is more like..interesting? Or has like an idea that want to show or I don't know this is just eroguro and gore just...based on a twisted crime that actually happened..
When I finished this book and it was hard to sleep afterwards especially the part where this poor girl begs the killers to kill her already it’s just really sad. rest in peace to the real girl who went through 40 days of hell junko furuta 1971-1989. but if you read about the real case junko went though way worse then what happens here though.
