If You Give a Grump a Christmas Tree Farm

Rate this book
From Wall Street Journal bestselling author, Nicole James comes a grumpy sunshine, small town, holiday romance!

JJ—

I’ve been to Christmas Town. Never thought I’d admit that to anyone. And yes, it’s a real place.

My brother and I visited there many times when we went to see our grandparents for the holidays. The small Tennessee town is proud of its name and takes it seriously. Gramps owns the local Christmas tree farm, Holly Jolly Farms on Candy Cane Lane. I know, right? Gag me with a spoonful of sugar.

I haven’t seen Gramps in forever, so never in a million years would I have expected that he’d leave it to me and my brother in his will. Only problem is, my brother passed away eight months ago. Guess gramps didn’t get a chance to update his will before he kicked the bucket.

It’s not that I’m ungrateful. We had some fun times there as boys, but now I’m a grown man who lost his Christmas wonder a long time ago. You could say I’m the definition of Bah-humbug.

To top it all off, I now share ownership of the place with my brother’s widow, a woman I’ve never even met.
Why is that, you ask?

Because I’m the black sheep of the family. I left home a decade ago and joined a motorcycle club. How’s that for a flying finger to the whole fam?

Needless to say, I haven’t been invited back since.
Not once.

So, all things considered, I’m thinking we make a quick sale, and unload the place to the first buyer we can find. But Rebecca has other ideas. She wants to make a go of it and she’s got a ton of ideas.

She’s complicating everything with her perky attitude and persistent optimism.

Per the stipulations of the will, neither one of us can sell unless the other one agrees, at least for the first year.

So, now I’m stuck with a failing tree farm and a hot-as-hell partner who pushes all my buttons, and is full of stinking Christmas cheer.

If I hear another ho-ho-ho, I won’t be responsible for my actions.

Between the tinsel and glitter and twinkling lights, the tree farm on Candy Cane Lane is coming back to life and my sexy partner is trying my last nerve and testing all my willpower. Lord, save me. It’s enough to drive a man to drink.

Pass the eggnog and don’t skimp on the liquor.

I’m in Freaking hell.

If you Give a Grump a Christmas Tree Farm is a stand alone, Grumpy/Sunshine, small town, holiday romance by Nicole James. This is my very first book by this author!

JJ Reardon lives and works with his motor cycle club in Birmingham, Alabama. He left home when he was still in his teens, trying to get away from a family that always treated him like he was less than. Within the MC, he found the family he always wanted. When he is called back to Christmas Town, Tennessee because his grandfather passed away and he was named in the will, JJ had no idea the surprise that was waiting for him.

Rebecca Reardon is the widow of JJ’s older brother. Rebecca’s marriage had not been a happy one. She was also made to feel like she was less than by the same person that had such a hand in making JJ’s childhood so unhappy. She can’t imagine why she has been summoned to the lawyer’s office for the reading of the will of her deceased husband’s grandfather. She had loved visiting him on the few times her husband had taken her but they weren’t particularly close.

Both Rebecca and JJ got a huge surprise when they are awarded joint ownership in the Holly Jolly Christmas Tree Farm from their grandfather. Rebecca is excited, thinking this could finally be something she could do that she would love. But JJ is less than excited and wants to sell his half. Good thing the will states that they have to own and operate it for one year before they can sell.

Things get off to a bit of a rocky start but these two are determined to get things up and running at the farm. The job before them is daunting, though. Rebecca proves herself to be wonderfully resourceful. As they spend time together and get to know each other, their emotional walls start to fall down around them and feelings as well as respect begin to grow. Rebecca also sees that the relationship JJ has with his MC brothers is not at all what she thought it would be. These men are brothers in the truest sense of the word.

Watching these two finally accept themselves and the talents they alone had was wonderful. They had both been hurt by the people that were supposed to love them. Watching their confidence grow and their trust in each other was what they needed to finally break free from their pasts and accept a future they never allowed themselves to dream of.

This was super cute and definitely filled with Christmas spirit. These two most definitely deserved to finally find love and happiness. The farm sounded like such a fun place I would have loved to visit.

The Perfect Christmas Story

It has to be perfect especially when you bring a biker in on it. When JJ’s grampa dies the man never changed his will because shortly before this JJ’s brother had died. The will gave the Christmas tree farm to both of his grandsons…or in this case JJ’s sister-in-law who he has never met.

She is his opposite because she is happy and full of Christmas cheer. Since they can’t sell the tree farm according to a stipulation of the will, they have to work together to bring the tree farm back to life. Good thing Rebecca has a lot of ideas how to do just that.

This is definitely a feel-good Christmas romance that was heartwarming and made me smile. You can’t go wrong when a book makes you feel this good.

Grab your favorite blanket, a cup of hot cocoa ☕ and snuggle buddy 🧸 for this one
JJ will steal your heart 💖 while Rebecca will have you believing in second chances.

JJ and Rebecca inherit the family (grandparents really) Christmas tree farm
Rebecca is over the moon about it, while grumpy pants JJ just wants to sell and move on
Though Gramps foresaw this, and I think a whole lot more, and put in a 'clause - not that kind of Clause
They had to wait a year before they could sell

And let the sweetest chaos begin as our two opposing personalities try to work together

Rebecca was a take-the-reins, I can make this work kind of gal
Whereas JJ originally gives off "whatever," I can do this for a year vibes.
But slowly, as he gets to know Rebecca and spends some time with her, he melts just like a marshmallow on a s'more
And doggone it, it was just as sweet

All bad puns aside, this was a sweet read with some very, very high heat 🔥🧯 moments
Solid secondary support characters from Rebecca's overly protective sister to the charming brothers JJ rides with
Some humorous scenes that had me laughing out loud, I love JJ's Brotherhood
A bit of angst from past events and the 'rents
Some short lived suspense - these two are magic together, they can handle anything
A couple of surprises that invoked the "awwwws"
And let us not forget the antagonists who will get your blood to boil
JJ's brother and the DNA donors? ICK!

A solid staycation that will leave you believing in the magic of the holidays and possibly needing a fan 😏

My Rating: 4.5 stars!

**ARC was generously provided in exchange for my honest review.**

Fun, flirty, and completely feel-good vibes. It’s just the type of Christmas romance that gets you giddy for the holiday season!

This is James’ third Christmas MC romance, and each one has been a fantastic addition to her already existing MC world. But what makes this one stand out from the rest is how much more centred it is around its MMC, and his life outside of his motorcycle club. As much as I am addicted to the Evil Dead MC, this is a sweet change of pace from the usually gritty storylines. This time around the brotherhood were purely present for positive reinforcement. They added comic relief, a solid support system, and the familial dynamics that JJ never had with his own growing up.

It’s always a hoot seeing past characters make an appearance. They not only add another layer to the story, but they never fail to take me on a trip down memory lane. Their tight-knit friendships are genuine and just so damn realistic, from their bantering ways to their heart-to-hearts. It’s one of the main reasons why I can never get enough of James’ MC world.

If you enjoy reading holiday romances—at any time of the year, if you love seeing rough and rugged MC bikers meet their ol’ ladies in the most smiling-inducing way, and if adore small-town settings, then this book will instantaneously be a comfort read for you as well.

It’s well-paced, told from dual POVs, and whilst in my opinion, a little on the shorter side of a full-length novel, it doesn’t feel abrupt. The gradual relationship from platonic to friendship, to finally romantic felt believable as JJ and Rebecca spend a good portion of the book getting to know one another. They quickly realised that they make quite a team, and each offer what the other never contemplated experiencing in their life.

JJ is sweet, heartwarming, and just about made me melt. A biker who is thoughtful, caring, and protective as hell?! A biker who has no qualms about putting the hard yards in, and if need be, make assurances to ensure Rebecca’s personal insecurities or doubts doesn’t get in the way of her aspirations.

Rebecca is the gentle, soft-hearted, and loving counterpart to JJ’s character. They are complete opposites who balance each other out. Seeing them navigate through their feelings, whilst being in constant close proximity, and trying to get a handle on their new venture on top of it, is what I find makes this story so gripping. There are just enough heat and sexual tension included to give this holiday read some spice.

This book does contain somewhat of a “third-act” drama. But with the direction JJ and Rebecca’s story was heading from the very beginning, it shouldn’t come as a surprise. They’re both thrown into an entirely new backdrop, adjustments and life changes are to be expected.

Whilst there are no dark themes, it does still broach on sensitive matters that some readers may find themselves identifying with such as, being in an unhealthy marital and/or familial dynamic involving belittling, bullying, made to feel useless or always at fault, resulting in insecurities about one’s self worth. Putting aside the romance, James has written a good-flowing, weighty story bringing forth real-life circumstances many can connect with. I love that both JJ and Rebecca grow and learn from each other, and provide strength, love, support, and a sounding board whenever needed.

If I had to nitpick, the epilogue could’ve been extended. I wish it was longer. I would’ve loved to have seen their HEA beyond their first couple of years together. But c’est la vie. In the end, I was still left happy-sighing in contentment. I honestly wasn’t expecting a book for JJ, but hot-damn did he leave me swooning after him.

You don’t need to read any of the previous books from the Evil Dead MC series, as this is a standalone, but if you want to check out the backlist of books, specifically from JJ’s MC chapter, I recommend starting with Shades, Ghost, and Hammer. But all in all, if you’re not already raring for the upcoming Christmas season, this book will definitely get you into the spirit!

Nicole James has given us readers a real treat this Christmas Season. If You Give a Grump a Christmas Tree Farm is a well written, quite romantic holiday romance. Yes it involves a biker and his club brothers but it doesn’t contain all the usual club action. Instead it shows the softer, loyal, comradery of bikers and their huge capacity for caring and love.

The synopsis above will give you the gist of the book, but what it doesn’t tell you is the storyline will have you laughing, smiling and wanting to bop a head or two. The banter and push and pull between JJ and Rebecca is perfect, along with the spark between. Can JJ survive his home town and all its memories, let alone the high spirited woman that is his former sister-in-law? Can Rebecca convince a grumpy JJ to give the Tree farm a go and perhaps show him the joys of Christmas and the town he grew up in?

I fell in love with JJ and Rebecca and you will too. This is a heartwarming, fun Christmas time MC romance that this reader highly recommends grabbing up asap, sitting in a comfy chair with some hot chocolate and simply enjoying.

I absolutely adore a good MC Christmas romance, and Nicole James—who consistently delivers heart-pounding, can’t-put-it-down Motor Club series—does it again with If You Give a Grump a Christmas Tree Farm: A Grumpy Sunshine, Small Town, Holiday Romance. This festive gem was the perfect story to get me fully in the Christmas spirit.

When JJ finds himself back in the small town he never wanted to return to, he discovers he’s now co-owner of a Christmas tree farm—a town that could rival any Hallmark movie for charm. But that’s not all… the farm is also part-owned by his brother’s widow, Rebecca. Sparks fly from the moment they meet, and I was instantly immersed in all the holiday magic.

JJ may be ready to sell, but Rebecca is determined to make it work. Can JJ let go of the memories he’s tried so hard to forget? And can Rebecca melt the heart of this big, burly biker and reignite his Christmas spirit?

With sizzling heat that could melt the snow around them, a story full of heart, and all the festive feels, this is a moving, swoon-worthy, must-read for the holiday season… and it has that biker feel that makes it all the more irresistible.

Don’t be fooled by this cute illustrated cover of Nicole James’ If You Give A Grump A Christmas Tree Farm. Inside, readers will find JJ, a broody MC biker, whose brother and gramps pass away, leaving him a Christmas tree farm he doesn’t want. He doesn’t even like Christmas. In addition, he has to see his brother’s wife, Rebecca, who owns part of it. Things get a wee bit complicated when they both develop feelings for each other. What will people think?

There’s a bit of drama regarding the forbidden aspect of JJ and Rebecca’s romance. There are several good spice scenes between them. Readers will understand how Rebecca can move on from her husband to his brother. I liked it when JJ’s fellow club members popped in. The story’s MC piece was fun, as was the epilogue.

Thank you to Author Nicole James for the gifted copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

4 Star Review If You Give a Grump a Christmas Tree by Nicole James

Nicole James is a new author to me and I am surprised I have not come across her books before.

Tis the season and I love any stories set around the holidays. Add in that it is set in Christmas Town, Tennessee and I couldn’t wait to dive in.

When JJ and his late brother inherit their grandfather’s Holly Jolly Christmas Tree Farm on Candy Cane Lane, I knew that I was in for an entertaining read.

JJ is a Christmas grinch and the last thing he wants is to share it with his brother’s widow Rebecca.

Rebecca is sunshine to JJ’s grump and it was entertaining to watch the dynamic as their relationship developed.

What follows is a story that will get you in the mood for the holidays.

This was a wonderful book to have read and really made me feel the holiday spirit. JJ and Rebecca are great characters together. They share a bond due to having experienced life with JJ’s family and that wasn’t so great. Such a feel-good read about proving people wrong and that anything is possible if you truly believe in your dream.

A great holiday read. Love the suspense and chemistry between the JJ & Rebecca. Both experienced JJ’s family (which wasn’t the greatest). Now they are left Holly Jolly Christmas Tree Farm. They have to keep it open for a year before they can cut ties. But things get interesting during this year. I really enjoyed this book.

JJ comes home and gets a surprise he doesn’t want or need.

Christmas Town, Tennessee. I can honestly say I have not missed you.

Rebecca needs something in her life worth fighting for and she found it.

This is a wonderful Christmas story that gives you all the feels to get you in the spirit of the season. A slow burn romance that gives a grumpy biker and a widow a chance at happiness.

I wasn't sure what to expect from a grumpy MC brother trying to save a Christmas tree farm, yet I was not disappointed. JJ is estranged from his family so there's a bit of tension there. Rebecca has been pushed down, not allowed to be herself and it was great following her journey of discovery, and rebuilding her true self. I enjoy the back and forth between them, the time spent getting to know each other, and how she works on cracking the grump. That creates a strong bond between them that kept the pages turning. It's a read I didn't want to put down!

I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

IF YOU GIVE A GRUMP A CHRISTMAS TREE FARM by Nikki Landis is a stand alone, contemporary , adult, holiday romance story line focusing on widow Rebecca Reardon, and her brother in law, MC member John Joseph ‘JJ’ Reardon.

Told from dual first person perspectives (JJ and Rebecca) IF YOU GIVE A GRUMP A CHRISTMAS TREE FARM follows in the wake of the death of JJ Reardon’s grandfather. JJ Reardon has been estranged from his family for a very long time but the death of his grandfather finds JJ returning to Christmas Town where he will come face to face with his brother’s widow, a woman he has never met but a woman who is about to become his partner in more ways than one. JJ’s grandfather has left Holly Jolly Christmas Tree farm to our story line couple but the caveat of the bequeathment is that our couple must work together on the farm for one year before coming to a decision about the land.

The world building follows JJ and Rebecca struggling to bring the farm back into favor with the people and townsfolk of Christmas Town. Working together, JJ and Rebecca discover their ideas will benefit them both, as well as the tree farm they will grow to love.

The relationship between JJ and Rebecca is one of forced co-habitation and proximity in an effort to honor the demands of JJ’s grandfather’s will. With very little knowledge of a working Christmas Tree farm, our couple must work together for the farm to survive but JJ never expected to fall in love with his brother’s widow, and Rebecca never expected to fall in return. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters are energetic and dynamic. We are introduced to several members of JJ’s motorcycle club, as well as JJ’s parents Janet and Tom.

IF YOU GIVE A GRUMP A CHRISTMAS TREE FARM is a story of family and relationships, acceptance and love. The character driven premise is entertaining and inviting; the romance is spicy and seductive; the characters are determined and dynamic.

This heartwarming and entertaining Christmas MC romance is a delightful story to immerse yourself in.

The characters are engaging and lovable, and we lenjoyed how the club brothers come together to help make the farm successful. While this holiday -themed story is part of a series, it showcases a different, softer side of MC life, focusing on friendship, loyalty, love, and the desire to help others succeed and form new relationships.

The banter and dynamic between JJ and Rebecca are captivating, and their chemistry is palpable. They make a beautiful couple, despite being complete opposites and we were rooting for them from the start. Their situation may seem taboo to some, but who has the right to stand in the way of love?

This feel-good book evokes a range of emotions and is easy to relate to, especially Rebecca's journey to independence and self-empowerment. Her strength and resilience shine through, making her a compelling character.

JJ's character is endearing, even in his grumpiness. Learning about his past and the pain caused by his family adds depth to his character, and his growth and healing throughout the story are heartwarming.

Exploring holiday -themed books in recent years, we are pleased to have discovered this gem. The plot, romance, humor, and emotional depth, along with a touch of Christmas magic, make this a truly enjoyable read that brings happiness and love to a deserving couple.

"I'm glad you're my partner in this."

JJ and Rebecca had me swooning and rooting for them from the moment they meet! The touch of "forbidden" (due to them being brother/sister in law) was an added layer that I loved for them. They absolutely proved that love transcends judgments, limitations, and expectations of others.

The forced proximity of the Christmas tree farm was the perfect backdrop for these two to fall in love. You can feel the magic in every aspect that was left behind by JJ's grandparents on the farm. And a sweet lab to add to the mix? Perfection! I have a chocolate lab and this was an unexpected bonus feature that made me love their story even more. You'll despise the antagonists and they will deserve every bit of anger you'll feel toward them.

Even though JJ and Rebecca are opposites, I adored how well they balanced each other. They come into the partnership with a lot of judgements of their own, but it doesn't take long for them to see that there is more than meets the eye. JJ helps Rebecca feel like herself and gives her the courage to speak her true thoughts/feelings about things. In turn, Rebecca helps JJ accept that he was carrying a lot of responsibility for others' opinions. Having a front row seat to this made for an incredible read!

Add this book to your holiday reading list -- it's worth losing some sleep over!

If You Give a Grump a Christmas Tree Farm By Nicole James is a cute holiday romance about JJ, who left his hometown when he was younger because he didn't get along with his parents or brother. They favored his brother over him, so he moved on with his life. When his grandfather passed, he got a letter saying he needed to meet with the family lawyer about his will. In his will, he and his deceased brother's wife left the family Christmas tree farm named Holly Jolly Farms, which was on Candy Cane Lane. JJ, not being a very pleasant man, was not thrilled with getting stuck in this Christmas-crazed town to try to run this Christmas tree farm. Luckily, he and Rebecca only had to keep it one year before they could sell if they wanted. It talks about her past relationship with JJ's brother & how the two of them turned this family's soured relationship into something more positive & uplifting, all for the sake of the holidays & Holly Jolly Farms. .*I received this as an ARC reader and am leaving my unbiased review.

Enjoyable read. A little early for the season, but I enjoyed it.

I found JJ to be a grumpy MC character with a soft spot for his grandparents and for his sister in-law. He has fond memories of visiting Christmas Town as a boy and spending the time with his grandparents on their tree farm, but he also has the memories that drag him under, the ones where he's being treated like an outcast even before he joins the MC.

Rebecca has her own scars from JJ's brother and is looking to move on with her life and make a life for herself. She just needs JJ to agree and work with her. They each have their own thoughts on the farm and Rebecca wants JJ to help her out for a year and then he can go on his way.

I enjoyed the story, but it left me wondering what happened to JJ's brother and which MC does JJ belong to?

If You Give a Grump a Christmas Tree is JJ and Rebecca’s magical holiday story set on Holly Jolly Christmas Tree Farm, Christmas Town, Tennessee. I love the holiday season and I loved everything about this quick read from the characters to the name of this quirky town.
JJ is called back to town for the reading of his grandfathers will but the last thing he expects is to find out he has inherited Holly Jolly Christmas Tree Farm with his late brother’s widow Rebecca. Determined to go back to his MC club he tells Rebecca they need to sell but the inheritance is based on them keeping the business for a year. What follows is a well written, magical read that Christmas movies are made from.
This is the first book I have read by this author but it won’t be the last.

JJ is the black sheep in his family, who left home decades previously to join an MC. JJ and his brother spent many a happy times at their grandpa’s Christmas tree farm, and when he passes, he leaves to the two of them, but JJ’s brother passed away the year previously, and now his brothers widow Rebecca is his business partner. Rebecca knows how to push JJ’s buttons, and they complement each other perfectly.
This is a well written easy to read story, with family, friendships, emotions, grumpy / sunshine, opposites attract, humour, witty banter, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, small romance.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

JJ is back in town after leaving years ago. All he wants to do is get over the reading of his grandfather's will and get the heck out of town. It is not a place he wants to be or calls home, but when his brother's wife walks in, things are about to change. Rebecca had no idea who JJ was until they met, let alone now that they are going to be business partners for a year. She has to beg him to stay and help. His parents are POS's, and I was not a fan. As JJ and Rebecca figure out how to bring the tree farm back, they also have to figure out how not to fall into bed together. I loved JJ's MC family and the way they were there to help when needed. But this book is not without drama. You won't even guess all the secrets and drama that come with this story, but it will be entertaining.

JJ and Rebecca officially meet when he attends the reading of his grandfather's will. She finds out she inherits half of the farm and so does he. She is a widow, who was married to his brother. He doesn't want the farm and wants to sell it. She wants to keep it and so things begin with a rocky start for them. JJ was stand-up and didn't play games with her. Rebecca was kind of self-absorbed at points in this book. She wanted him to just go along with what she wanted and didn't seem intent on putting him first at all. That kind of rubbed me the wrong way. It would have also helped if we were told how JJ's brother died. His family dynamics were easy enough to figure out. Her family's dynamics were more difficult. Overall a good story with a great holiday theme.

I really enjoyed this story. The chemistry between Rebecca and JJ was there from the start. Both came with baggage that had to be overcome in order for their love to truly shine through. I loved Rebecca's desire to have something of her own and how hard she worked to feel the confidence to run her own business. There were obstacles, but I was proud of how JJ got them help and changed his outlook as his feelings became deeper for Rebecca. Having a wonderful solution at the end added to my enjoyment. A great story.

I am so in love with this grumpy biker. JJ returned home after his Gramps passed only to find out that Rebecca his ex-sister in law is now co-owner of his Gramps christmas tree farm named Holly Jolly Farm and they are forced to make a go of it for the next year. Rebecca and JJ realize that they both have misconceptions about each other and this just makes things more complicated. I loved this story and every misstep they took as they fought JJ's unforgiving parents. I couldn't put this book down and I wanted more of them. Definitely a not to be missed book.

Sweet and saucy Christmas story. Just and Rebecca meet when his grandfather leave them the Christmas tree farm. Rebecca is his deceased brother’s wife. These tow have serious sparks but more than that they understand each other and, while working on the farm, they get to know each other and start to care for each other. The only thing that I found strange is that his family is mentioned at the beginning and then never again, but maybe I am the only one noticing that.
Anyway, great story. Puts you in the holiday spirit and it's real heartwarming.

A terrific holiday story

What begins as an intense story, slowly drifts into a funny adventure, which leads to a HEA that no one expected. It's a terrific holiday story that everyone will enjoy, and can be read anytime of the year.
The Grump (lol!) is actually a member of the infamous Evil Dead MC, which is awesome. I'm not sure why it wasn't listed with the original series, but it's still a definite must read book and series.
I would definitely recommend this book and outstanding author.
