Grow A New Garden ~ Plan, Design & Transform Any Outdoor Space by Becky Searle
I have been reading gardening books weekly now for about 6 months. I have not reviewed most of them or recorded them as read in my Goodreads, but thought this year I will. Some like this one, I read cover to cover. Others I can skim and realize that it’s over my head, or not the type of gardening I’m interested in. This one for the most part I found enjoyable but mostly I think because it’s winter, and allowed me to dream a bit about spring and summer.
This author is from England, so style and plant choices are likely very different. I have found Midwest gardening books, Michigan specific books and native gardening books much more to my taste. So while I didn’t rate the book, I did enjoy it!
A few simple takeaways for me though:
•plant more flowers among my vegetables
•plant more herbs and vegetables among my flowers
•create hideaway spaces
•water feature for soothing sounds
•container gardening in awkward spots
•consider mulching (far away from house 🐀)
I found this in the “new nonfiction” stacks at my local @royaloakpubliclibrary.
