Mango Tango Murder: a Baron & Graystone Mystery

Rate this book
Revenge is a dish best served cold.

The summer heat wave in Everly is no match for the chill that runs down Belle Baron's spine when she discovers a body in an ice delivery truck. As the organizer of the town's first Ice Sculpture Festival, Belle knows this couldn't have happened at a worse time.

With her coffee shop, The Beanery, serving up refreshing Mango Tangos to overheated festival attendees, Belle should be focused on making the event a success. Instead, she finds herself tangled in a web of decades-old rivalries centering around guest of honor Anastasia Frost—the self-proclaimed "Ice Queen" of the sculpting world.

With the festival in jeopardy and tourists fleeing, Belle finds herself drawn into the investigation alongside handsome Detective Lucas Graystone.

Someone in Everly has a motive worth killing for, and Belle must sift through a blizzard of lies before the killer strikes again.

I am a latecomer to the Baron and Graystone series, but I finally succumbed to the coffee cup on the covers of the books and dove into the first in the series. I did not surface until I read them all and was very disappointed when I got to the end of #6 to find the series had ended when there was so much more to say. What a joyous day when Ms. Pauling announced book #7!

Belle Baron and Lucas Graystone are two of the best protagonists in the cozy mystery world today. Both are such complex well-developed characters with incredible back stories that you get so involved in their day-to-day lives that you forget there is a murder to solve!

In Mango Tango Murder Belle is continuing her aunt’s legacy in the Everly community by planning their first ever Ice Sculpture Festival. Just as the festival kicks off, Belle discoveries that the pasts of the participants are intertwined, and not in a good way. She also finds a body in the ice delivery truck adding to the stress of the competition. Belle forges on with the festival, supported along the way by her faithful coffee creations genius Bixby. Of course, Detective Lucas Graystone is on the case, accepting Belle’s unique style of assistance along the way. Working together they solve this very unique murder resulting in a successful conclusion to the festival.

This book is a wonderful addition to the series, not only is there an ice festival during the summer, but there is also a mysterious murder to solve with any number of prime suspects. If this isn’t enough, there is the developing relationship between Belle and Lucas and Bixby’s pending culinary school entrance. No matter what happens, the reader finds themselves routing for Belle and Lucas, as both have had difficult obstacles to overcome.

The Baron and Graystone series is an excellent series – each book builds upon the others; all have wonderful story lines and difficult to solve murders. Mango Tango Murder draws you in from the start and doesn’t let you go until you’ve turned the last page, and then you don’t want it to end! I am very much looking forward to the next installment in the series (and hopefully many, many more!)

Mango Tango Murder is the seventh book in the Baron and Greystone Murder Mystery cozy mystery series. The heroine of the series, Belle, offers to help coordinate a town Ice Sculpture Festival, and on the first night of the event discovers a dead body in the back of the Ice delivery truck. It is now up to Belle and Lucas to solve the murder and not jeopardize the rest of the town-wide festival. As with every cozy mystery there are numerous potential suspects, and many twists and turns in the story line. While I was able to figure out who the murderer was, there was still a twist at the end of the book that surprised me. The book also continues to slowly develop the relationship between Belle and Lucas. Book six was supposed to be the last book in the series, but I am so glad that the author decided to write a seventh book so we can enjoy these great characters more. If you enjoy cozy mystery’s set in small towns, you will enjoy this book.

Mango Tango was a fun, fast-paced, no spice mystery that I didn’t want to put down. I very much enjoyed the chemistry Belle and Lucas shared, and I loved seeing the development of Belle’s relationships with the lovely people of Everly. The mystery kept me guessing, and just when I thought I had things figured out, there would be another twist that made me rethink my theory. I really like Laura Pauling’s writing style, and have been eagerly devouring every book of hers that I can get my hands on. Highly recommend! I received an ARC copy from the author.

I love the Baron and Graystone series, so I was very excited that there is a 7th book! I love that we get to see more of Belle and Lucas and their developing relationship. It adds to the story but doesn't take away for the murder mystery. In this series there are always multiple suspects which keeps you guessing up until the end. Love the small town and changing seasons that pair perfectly with Bixby's coffee creations!

Interesting series Belle Baron and Detective Lucas Graystone make for a great team. Belle is a member of the Committee for bringing an ice sculpting festival. During the demonstration there is murder of the person delivering the ice blocks for the competition. There is clear undercurrents of animosity within the participants. There is a second murder as well as a attack on one of the suspects. Love the overall investigation and never saw the murderer.

cold as ice

Secrets, lies and murder surround the first ice festival. Belle hopes the festival will be a success but the recents events threaten to shut it down. Belle, Bixby & Lucas race to solve the mysteries before it’s too late. Great story, pick up a copy to see how it all plays out. I look forward to the next book.

Ice

Who knew ice sculptures were so hazardous to ones health. There is a competition for everything. They have a very competitive when it comes to ice or do they? Belle sure knows how to ruffle some feathers. I hope she gets a new car with as much personality as her last on and that things with the very handsome detective heat up. On to the next adventure!😉💚💙
