The Couple's Secret

A totally addictive and binge-worthy crime and mystery thriller

Seven years ago, Tobias Lachlan and his fiancée Cora Stevens went out for a romantic dinner together. They left the restaurant smiling and holding hands, Cora sent a text message to say they were on the way home… but they were never seen again, leaving their family and friends with broken hearts and unanswered questions.

Detective Josie Quinn is shocked when she’s called to investigate the discovery of their bodies in a submerged car in the river just outside Denton. The medical report soon shows that Tobias and Cora were brutally murdered, sending shockwaves through the community and reopening the case that police thought had long gone cold.

With no obvious clues, and no sightings of the couple after they left the restaurant that night, Josie draws a blank. Tobias and Cora’s children, now grown, can’t imagine who might have wanted their parents dead. The discovery of a tiny old-fashioned key in the remnants of Cora’s purse could unlock the mystery, but no one knows what the key might open, and Josie can’t figure out what it meant to Cora. But secrets don’t stay buried forever, and if Josie knows one thing to be true, it’s someone always knows something. As she digs deeper, Josie finds evidence that this perfect couple might have been keeping secrets. Secrets from their children, and secrets from each other.

But then another body is found—another member of the family, tragically silenced forever. Josie’s investigation has stirred up more than just the river bed, and she knows that the killer is now even more desperate to keep their secrets hidden. Who is trying to rip this family apart, and can Josie find out before it’s too late?

An absolutely nail-biting and utterly gripping crime thriller from Amazon, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Lisa Regan. For fans of Angela Marsons, Robert Dugoni and Rachel Caine!

A solid 4 Stars– "The Couple’s Secret" is the 23rd installment in the Josie Quinn series, and I approached this book without any prior knowledge of the previous 22 entries. From the start, I was drawn into a captivating mystery that showcases Lisa Regan’s talent for building tension and suspense. However, as the story unfolded, I couldn’t shake the feeling of being an outsider at a lively gathering where everyone else was in on the jokes and backstory.

For readers who have followed Josie Quinn’s journey from the beginning, this book undoubtedly offers a wealth of familiar relationships, intricate backstories, and nuanced character dynamics. Regan has crafted a rich universe that rewards long-time fans. Unfortunately, as a newcomer, I often found myself scrambling to piece together details that would provide context for various emotional moments and references sprinkled throughout the narrative.

Josie Quinn is portrayed as a compelling protagonist, and the plot twists are cleverly executed, keeping the reader on their toes. Still, I sensed that the emotional depth of specific interactions and revelations would resonate more profoundly with those who have a deeper understanding of the characters' histories. While there were moments that felt poignant, I often felt their full impact eluded me due to my lack of familiarity with earlier developments. (That is a me problem, not the writing.)

For dedicated fans of the series, "The Couple’s Secret" will surely be a rewarding addition that continues to build upon established storylines and character arcs. As for my experience, while I appreciated the gripping narrative and Regan's engaging writing style, I initially felt like an outsider stepping into a world filled with warmth and familiarity. Nevertheless, I embraced the journey with determination and purpose, and I intend to read the series from the beginning to appreciate the relationships and history woven into the narrative entirely.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own, and I was not obligated to write a review.

Gripping, thrilling, shocking, mysterious and hard to put down, Lisa Regan has another hit on her hands with The Couple's Secret!! It's full of secrets, tension, twists, revelations, and chilling moments. The Couple's Secret picks up where the last book in the series, Husband Missing leaves off!

Josie Quinn is called in to investigate the grisly discovery of a car emerged in a river outside of Denton, PA. Inside are the bodies of Tobias Lachlan and his fiancée Cora Stevens who were last seen at a restaurant the evening they went missing. Their bodies indicate that they were viciously murdered. Now Josie and Gretchen must interview their family, friends, children to gather more information for their investigation. But then another body is found and the investigation kicks into high gear as the stakes keep getting higher!!!

This is one of my favorite series and I can always count on Lisa Regan to deliver shocking mysteries, thrilling detective work while also giving viewers glimpses into the characters' lives. Speaking of the characters' lives, Josie and Noah are going through a lot in this book both individually and as a couple. They also recently become guardians of Wren, a teenage girl, left in their care. I enjoyed seeing Josie and Noah support each other and be there for each other. Plus, the whole Denton PD is there as well as members of Josie's family who are determined to help Josie and Noah celebrate their marriage!

I love the character development in this series as well as the strengthening relationships between many of the characters. Plus, the ending gives readers a little tidbit into one of the character's live and it has me chomping at the bit, wanting to know where Lisa Regan is going to go with this in the next book!!!!!!

Mysterious, gripping, thrilling, shocking, and hard to put down!!! I can't wait to read the next book in this amazing series!

Detective Josie Quinn and her partner, Gretchen, were called to an old site in Denton, far from the town and unused in the main. A car had been sighted in the river as with the drought, levels had fallen further than usual. What they found was the bodies of two people who had gone missing seven years prior; who had basically vanished into thin air with the police investigation stalling for lack of evidence. Now Josie, Gretchen, Noah and Turner were on the case, determined to find answers, especially for the couple's three children.

After days of frustration, only learning that the two in the car had been brutally murdered, Josie felt her irritation rising. Meeting and getting to know Tobias & Cora's children, Jackson, Zane and Riley, now adults, Josie felt their loss deeply and needed to bring them closure. But could she? The evidence was sparse; seven years in the river had washed any signs away. And then there was Noah, who was still suffering from their last case. And Wren - sweet, grieving, teenage Wren. Would Josie cope with it all? Of course...

The Couple's Secret is the 23rd in the Detective Josie Quinn series by Lisa Regan and it was another cracker of a read! I love catching up with Noah & Josie, as well as Gretchen (Turner not so much!) and now Wren is in their lives, there's an added layer of softness to them both. I'm already looking forward to #24 :) Highly recommended.

With thanks to NetGalley & Bookouture for my digital ARC to read and review.

Confession: When the Witches Words Reading Group drops everything for a new book in this series, we mean it. This is book twenty-three and somehow we’re still obsessed. Every single time we finish one we all say the same thing: it just keeps getting better.

We adore Josie, her team, her family, the whole found crew energy is why we keep coming back and why the books still hit.

Verdict: If you haven’t started this series yet… seriously, what are you reading ??

(Still compulsively reading. Who am I to disrupt my flow by writing detailed reviews? ;-) )

Finally, a complete winner!

This is Josie Quinn no. 23; if you know her, read it. You won't be disappointed, I promise! No Mettner whining, no dead granny trauma, just a cold case coming up from the bottom of a river, a patchwork family, and its secrets.

If you're new to Josie Quinn, feel free to jump right in. Yes, you're missing a lot of background but it doesn't matter all that much. The case is still riveting and interesting.

Thrilling, suspenseful, intelligent, and warm-hearted in some aspects (Wren!) as well. Really good one!

I love the Josie Quinn series and this 3 star review doesn't change that, still a very good book, just not one of my favourites or top in the series. It was a bit different to the norm, with less PP focus and more family, relationship focus and I enjoyed it but was just a bit less engaged than normal. I can't wait to see how the relationships and challenges pan out though.
Looking forward to the next in the series and many thanks to author, publisher and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.

Tobias and his fiancée Cora tragically disappeared 7 years ago. Their bodies are found at the bottom of a murky river in a car. Detective Josie Quinn is called in to investigate the case. She discovers dark secrets the couple were hiding.
This is the 23rd installment in the series. It is an intense and gripping read with many twists and turns. I couldn’t hardly put it down.

The Couple's Secret is a fantastic new thriller in the Josie Quinn series by Lisa Regan. When Detective Josie Quinn is called to a scene she isn't prepared for the couple in the submerged car to be a case from 7 years ago. Tobias Lachlan and Cora Stevens were married and had a blended family of kids. They went out to dinner, seemed happy, and Cora texted the kids that they were on their way home. That's the last anyone ever heard from them again. It's like they vanished into thin air. What really happened to Tobias and Cora? Josie now knows that their car went in the river and they died inside. Simple as that, right? When the medical report comes back it shows that they both were shot in the head before the car went into the river. This was murder plain and simple.

It's hard enough to solve a murder case, but one that's 7 years old is very challenging. The kids are now grown and have no idea who would want to murder their parents. The only clue is a skeleton key found in Cora's purse. What could this be the key to? There's nothing in the house that it would fit. Why would Cora have this in her purse? As Josie investigates and questions people of importance from 7 years ago, It turns out the couple might have been keeping secrets from their kids, their friends, and each other. When another family member ends up dead, Josie knows someone is trying to keep the secrets hidden from all those years ago. Who among the living would do this? This book is fast paced, exciting, and there is a big twist you won't see coming. I thoroughly enjoyed The Couple's Secret and rate it 5 stars with my highest recommendation. I'd like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy of The Couple's Secret in exchange for a fair review. #TheCouplesSecret

Review to follow nearer publication date.

Another great instalment in this series. I can’t believe this is book 23. It’s hard to find words that are different to previous reviews for Lisa Regans writing. Just if you haven’t started reading them and you enjoy a good thriller/police procedural then start!
I’ve taken one star off because sometimes I think Josie’s actions are a bit unbelievable, swimming underwater for ages, pulling a license plate off a car with her hands whilst holding her breath for example. A bit too superwoman , but just my opinion. I still enjoy the story.
Thank you to Netgalley and the author for the opportunity to read and review this book.

After finishing the previous book, I had no choice but to dive straight into this one. This brings me current with the series which is a little sad, but thankfully, the author is a prolific writer and is working on more. Very interesting to see where Josie & Noah are at this point and how they're adjusting to their new normal. I'm liking new characters and have no doubt we'll see more of them in future books. Turner...I see you!! I highly recommend this series to fans of twisted thrillers with a nice side of romance that doesn't overwhelm the plot line.

-The Couples Secret-

I ate this book UP in one sitting. This was such a good book and I was NOT ready for those twists. As soon as you read one, there’s more. And your jaw will drop even further.

This is the epitome of “family secrets”. A must read for the lovers of fast paced page turners with a sprinkle of heart pumping the further you get.

Book 23 and Lisa is still surprising me!! This book was not the heartbreak nor the shock I was expecting! I mean one word - Victor. Gah!

When we got to the reveal, I had actually forgotten the prologue! Because I was slow at reading, I bought the audiobook and blitzed it, and when we came to a scene later on, I was like OMG!! This was such a sad read. With so many people we could question, the person it actually is, well, I didn't even suspect.

A couple who went missing years ago are found in their car. But it's the story of how they got there. Alongside this, Josie and Noah now have Wren in their care. Now, not going to lie, I had actually forgotten who Wren and Erica were, but then we were drip-fed some information, and I remembered. The ending was cute, and it felt like now the family was complete.

I love that Lisa can still surprise me, and boy, did she in this book. So many webs were woven that my head was spinning by the climax. It was fantastic and so enjoyable. Josie is as tenacious as normal, and even better, we are starting to get a chink in Turner's armour!! I mean WHAT!!! There is a lot to unpack from the small snippet we were given. I can't wait to get into it in the next book, eek!!

Loved it!

Seven years ago, an engaged couple vanished on their way home from dinner, leaving three children to fend for themselves. Their disappearance remained an unsolved mystery until a submerged car containing their bodies is found three hours away in Denton, Pa., the jurisdiction of Detective Lisa Regan. When it is discovered they were murdered, Lisa and her team reopen the case to find the culprit. As the investigation unfolds, surprising secrets are revealed.

Meanwhile, on the home front, Josie is trying to establish a relationship as a new guardian of a teenager (the cliffhanger ending of the last installment of this series), dealing with husband Noah’s PTSD, and planning a vow renewal ceremony with him.

Cleverly plotted, this is a compelling, twisty mystery with elements of psychological thriller and family drama. Readers will be privy to more and more of the personal aspects of Josie and Noah’s life as well as gaining a little insight into the relatively new character of Turner, annoying enigma that he is.

I enjoy seeing Regan’s characters show growth and change with time and experience. I like Josie. She is a capable, intelligent, though vulnerable young woman.

This is book #23 in the series and I have read all of them, as it is one of my favorites. Regan does a good job of filling in pertinent information in characters’ backstories so it does work as a standalone, although I do recommend trying to read some if not all of the prior stories.

If you like well written, gripping, police procedurals/thrillers, I highly recommend this book/series. I can’t wait for #24.

Thanks to @NetGalley and @BookOuture for the DRC.

would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this awesome book in an amazing series

when josie get the news about a car being found at the bottom of a lake her first thoughts are for survivors but when she arrives on scene it apparent that there are no survivors and that the car had been there for years.... and its only because of a drought that the car had become visible....

getting the car out demanded a lot of time and effort but once it was out and the investigation could be begin.... there was a murder to investigate...not only did they have two skeletal remains they also had evidence of gun shot to both heads and all they needed was an identification confirmation to confirm the two remains were who they thought they were...

man this book had so many twists and turns you never knew what was coming next.... sat on the edge of my seat all through reading this book and i cant wait to meet the new character that we had a brief glimpse of....

this series just gets better and better...

Lisa Regan has written another winner with Book 23, The Couple’s Secret. This book series follows Josie Quinn, detective for the small fictional town Denton, PA.

A car was discovered in the river where 2 bodies have been found inside. Life seems not to be dull even in Central PA. Follow Josie and her team as they investigate another crime that turns the town for a loop.

Not only does Josie have her job investigating crime but she has found herself as a guardian to a teenager along with her husband, Noah. Being a detective is hard but this may prove to be more challenging!

Regan does an incredible job of keeping readers engaged with characters and the excitement as crimes are investigated. Her books always have twists and turns so that you still end up surprised at the end.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read the book as an ARC.

I have read all but a couple of the books in this series and this is a great one! Detective Josie Quinn's home life with her husband, Detective Noah Fraley but a new case that comes in has to take priority. The case is actually a cold case, and I liked that element of the story. Remains of a couple who disappeared seven years ago are found in a lake. They are identified as a couple who had last been seen leaving a restaurant together before disappearing. I love how Josie and her team put everything into this investigation to find out what really happened to this couple. Josie works a lot with Detective Gretchen Palmer on this case and their rapport is fantastic and the seamless way they question a suspect together. Some clues were given, but I was surprised when the details of the case were revealed.

There is character development as the series progresses, but most of the books can be read out of order. However, I would recommend at least reading the book right before this one (Husband Missing) since a few things in Noah and Josie's personal life carry over from that book to this one. After a difficult case and some complex emotions from Josie and Noah, the ending of the case and the book are both satisfying. Even though this book was just released, I am already looking forward to the next one!

I received an advance copy of this ebook from Bookouture and NetGalley for review consideration. My review is voluntary and unbiased.

I am a die hard fan of the Josie Quinn Series so I was eager to get my hands on The Couple's Secret. The Couple’s Secret is book 23 of the Josie Quinn series and just like books 1-22 in the series it is an awesome read!

In this one, Josie has to crack a cold case when the bodies of a couple, Cora and Tobias, who disappeared 7yrs ago are discovered in a submerged car in a river in Denton. When it turns out the couple were murdered, the cold case takes on a sinister turn. Josie and Gretchen turn to the couple's family and business partner for answers- digging into secrets and lies to get to the bottom of the murders.

Meanwhile we pick up where we left off in book 22 on Josie and Noah's personal life. Noah is struggling with his personal demons from the traumas of his kidnapping, which is sad to see him struggle. Josie and Noah are trying to navigate being Wren's guardian. It is interesting to see them in this parental role.

We also get a breadcrumb into Turner's personal life. I am looking forward to getting into that more in the next book, hopefully!

Overall, Lisa Reagan remains the queen of detective novels for me and I continue to love and devour her Josie Quinn books!

Thank you to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

4.5 - another amazing JQ novel. This is probably my favorite crime/thriller series. Josie is struggling to be a guardian to Wren and a partner to her husband, Noah, after his abduction. All of that still remains in her mind as she navigates a seven year old missing couple case. Cora and Tobias went missing seven years ago, but when their car is mysteriously found deep in a lake, Josie has to reopen the case and look at from all angles.

This is one of my favorite books in the series. Seeing Josie's home life get to where it is, along with the story of Cora and Tobias - I was constantly entertained.

✅ This is book 23 in the Detective Josie Quinn series. I have read each and every book….definitely one of my favorite series to read. If you are a fan of suspenseful thrillers, this is the series you should pick up. I recommend reading the series in order as there is so much backstory to the main characters that is very important to know.

The Couple’s Secret had so much going on! The mystery aspect was so complex. A vehicle is found after seven years…with two bodies in it. As Josie and Gretchen start investigating, they seem to hit dead ends with their questions and inquiries.
It seems like everyone has secrets they don’t want to reveal. And, what secrets they are!!!
Along with the investigation, Josie and Noah are navigating having Wren in their life.
The Couple’s Secret is a must-read for fans of a suspenseful, twisted, cold case mystery with a psychological twist that will have you reading until you finish the book!
Lisa Regan always delivers a twisty police procedural that keeps me guessing until the end of the book.
BUT……..
What the heck is going on with Turner???? I mean….I need insight into him! He drives me crazy and really isn’t much of an asset to the team. I am hoping for a answer as to why he is not being fired! I have my own ideas of why he is there….

Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Another brilliant crime thriller from Lisa Regan.
When Josie and Gretchen are called out to a car submerged in the water, they know it’s not good.
When two bodies are found in the car they discover they have been missing for a while, and were murdered.
The family are devastated to hear the news, but it’s clear Josie and Gretchen are not getting the full story from them.
They contact the Detective who was looking at the missing persons case previously and with more and more information to work through, the Chief is getting impatient and wanting results.
Josie and Noah are also adjusting to life with Wren and desperately want her to like them.
This is a gripping crime thriller that I really enjoyed.
Thanks to Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book.

Holy smokes! This pulse pounding mystery begins with a found vehicle-one that has been missing seven years. As Josie and Gretchen take on the investigation into the two victims-they run into more questions than answers. Meanwhile at home Josie and Noah are scrambling to navigate their emotions following Noah’s harrowing ordeal and the arrival of Wren. Regan is a master storyteller, keeping the reader guessing about the villain until the end. I definitely recommend this series and I’m looking forward to the next installment! Thank you to the publisher for the opportunity to read an early copy, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Couple's Secret by Lisa Regan is full of mysteries, deep family secrets, and deceit. The Couple's Secret is part of Detective Josie Quinn book series. If you don't know Josie, you should. She is a strong female character that runs towards danger to protect the innocent. The Couple's Secret plot surrounds one thrown together family and the secrets that they all keep. The book takes you on twists and turns until the truth is finally uncovered but also leaves you feeling a little unsatisfied because you don't get all the answers about crimes that were committed 20 plus years ago. This book also shares a new side of Josie Quinn because she became a legal guardian along with her partner and co worker Noah. Josie knows how to be a detective but trying to "parent" a teenager has her stumped. I love this book series for a variety of reasons but if you are a fan of mystery/thrillers, you will enjoy this series. I also think these books can be read as a stand alone as well. Publication date is September 1st, 2025.

The couple in the photo smile at the camera, arms wrapped around each other, faces alight with happiness. They were two people getting a second chance at love, trying to blend their young families and start a new life together. Until their smiles became frozen for the camera forever as their lives were cut tragically short by a horrifying act of violence…

💚Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ💚
Josie is back, and this is a great read. Noah and Josie now have a new teenager in their lives, and they are her guardians. But Ren is not having anything to do with Josie. While Josie is trying to deal with that a new case plops in her lap and it is a doozy.
I love how Lisa Regan winds her way through all the ins and outs of a mystery- Keeps my interest right to the end.

After that ending, I've been eager to discover what happens next with Josie and Noah. I couldn’t help but chuckle and have my heart strings pulled a bit with Wren. There are definitely some growing pains that will happen between Josie and Wren. The mystery in this one was thick with secrets and I was eager to follow along to see what happened to a happy couple that was recently discovered in a lake. The plot twist was wild and I didn’t see it coming at all. I was shocked once everything was revealed. To discover how far a murder will go to cover his tracks after all this time was very chilling. No one is safe in this story…especially when you get close to its secrets.

This review was originally posted on Star Crossed Reviews I received this book for free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Thank you to Bookouture for my copy of this book from Netgalley and for letting me take part in this tour. This is the twenty third book in the Detective Josie Quinn series. This book can be read as a standalone.

Josie and the team have caught another interesting case. This time Josie ends up jumping in the Susquehanna river where a car has been found. Unfortunately this car and the couple in it have been in the river for 7 years. The case has a lot of dead ends not surprising since the couple have been missing for 7 years. It's scary how they just disappeared into thin air. It was tragic but I needed to find out what happened to this poor couple.

As well as the case Josie and her husband have a new challenge taking on Wren after her dad left them custody at the end of the last book. It was very interesting to see Josie and Noah figuring out how to juggle work and looking after teenage Wren. I really felt for all parties in this. Wren is terrified to open up in case she losses Josie and Noah just like she lost her parents. then Josie and Noah are trying to set firm boundaries while also show Wren that they are there for her. It's a real tough situation all round. I always love checking in with the rest of the the regular characters in this series and it's so lovely to see them all doing so well.

If you love a thrilling gripping crime story then this book is definitely for you.

JQ is looking for clues! When a soggy car is pulled from the river Josie realizes they’ve found the bodies of two people who disappeared 7 years ago.
The story was akin to the junk removal business because a lot of junk had to be removed before the little pieces surfaced.
Regan had me fooled as to who really committed the crimes until she allowed the veil to drop.
I loved how things sizzle between Noah and Josie even with a teenager in the house.
Another excellent book!
Thanks Bookouture and NetGalley for the advance copy.
