Resonant Solace: Resonance, Book 2

Rate this book
From the author of Rifts and Refrains comes a soulful and deeply romantic story about love after loss and finding your voice when the music stops.

Still reeling from heartbreak, Sophie has walked away from the spotlight, her guitar gathering dust and her voice silent. But when an old friend invites her to help document the untold history of the blues in Memphis, she reluctantly agrees, never expecting the trip to change everything.

Nathan is a journalist chasing legacy and meaning, but Sophie's presence stirs something deeper than his latest assignment. As they explore the city’s rhythms and reckon with ghosts of the past, sparks begin to build between them, unspoken and undeniable, pulling them closer with every shared moment.

Resonant Solace is a sweeping romance about creative rebirth, emotional risk, and the power of connection. For anyone who has ever needed a second chance or dared to believe in one, this is a love story that lingers like a favorite song.

In this sweet story of a friendship that turns into love we meet Sophia, who is a background singer for a best friend and also a guitarist (taught by her father) who goes through a heartbreaking break up and decides to leave the music business for a while. That is until her friend turns up on her door step to check on her and also offer her a chance to travel and help him work on an article. Nathan calls himself checking in on Sophie and he also wants to help him by taking a road trip to Memphis to be his photographer for his latest project he's working on. Along their journey their friendship definitely turns into something more. During their journey, both Sophie and Nate will have some heavy things to unload...and they only feel comfortable enough to unload to each other rather than their best friends (Amara and Jake)...until much later in the story.... During the benefits situation. they both realize that both of them are falling in love.....after the realization, Initially, they don't commit to a relationship but continue with their benefits...until the relationship evolves and .they are mature enough to owe their feelings for one another. Such a cute story...with Outstanding Narration from Winston James and Alyx Monroe.

Sophie and Nathan are friends. He comes to check on her and get her to go on a trip to do a project with him when she has been closed off to their friend group for months. They are clearly attracted to each other and sparks fly while they are on the trip.

The problem is that they want different things. She wants to be a wife and mother. He wants to travel as an investigative journalist. Once they agree that what they are doing is temporary, they embark on a love affair.

It is very clear that they are good for one another. They both just have a lot that they need to work through before that can happen.

I enjoyed this book a lot. After I started it, I discovered that it is book two in a series. I didn’t feel lost by not having read the first book but I am intrigued and will go back to find and read that one as well.

Resonant Solace by Tiye is a beautifully written and deeply moving story that shows how love can grow out of pain and turn past trauma into healing. I loved the way Tiye wove vulnerability, resilience, and romance into this journey—it was equal parts emotional and inspiring.

The audiobook experience made it even more powerful. Winston James and Alex Monroe did a phenomenal job breathing life into these characters, capturing every layer of their emotions, struggles, and growth. Their narration pulled me in and made the story unforgettable.

Huge thanks to NetGalley and Tiye for the opportunity to listen early. This story will stick with me for a long time. 💙

ALC Review
📚 Book Title: Resonant Solace
✍🏽Author: Tiye
📕 Format: 🎧
🎙️Narrator: Winston James & Alyx Monroe
⭐️ Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶 Spice Level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

🕑Quick Take:
We first meet Sophie Turner in "Rifts and Refrains," where she is a backup singer for Amara Johnson. Sophie has been withdrawn and isolated for a month, but an old friend helps awaken her spark for life.

Nathan Price, an investigative journalist, invites Sophie to join him on his next assignment.

Together, Sophie and Nathan embark on a new adventure to Memphis. Along the way, they not only explore their attraction to each other but also redefine their understanding of success.

💕What I Loved:
Earlier this summer, I read “Refits and Refrain” and was delighted to learn about “Resonant Solace.” I enjoyed how “Resonant Solace” continues to explore the legacy of Amara’s late grandfather, Stoney Johnson, who was a Blues artist. Specifically, it spotlights the artist Claudette “Mae Hennie” Saint, who’d worked with Stoney years ago. I loved how Tiye beautifully interwove lessons related to history and their connection to the civil rights movement. The novel was beautifully written, featuring perfect tension, poignant moments, and sweet expressions of love. I melted every time Nathan called Sophie “Twinkle!”

Tropes:
- Love After Loss
- Friends to Lovers
- Redefining Purpose
- Women in Blues Music

🎭 Narration:
Winston James & Alyx Monroe are two of my favorite voice actors. Both Winston and Alyx did a phenomenal job narrating this novel. Their performance was superb!

⚠️ Heads Up (Trigger/content warnings):
- Pregnancy Loss
- Parental Divorce (off-page)
- Infidelity (off-page)

💭Final Thoughts:
I am excited to share my thoughts on “Resonant Solace,” which I reviewed as an ALC. This audiobook felt like a warm hug, featuring delightful moments of flirting and banter between the characters. At the same time, they challenged each other to heal, grow, and shift their perspectives. I highly recommend “Resonant Solace” as an audiobook. As an immersive reader, I have already purchased a copy for my personal audiobook library!

Resonant Solace is book two in Tiye’s Resonance Series and now it’s Sophie and Nathan’s turn at romance. While dealing with heartbreak and loss, Sophie has cut herself off from everyone until Nathan comes through and offers her a chance to join him on an assignment. While on this assignment, they both can’t help but explore the growing attraction and the musical history. As they continue to peel back the layers of history, doubts begin to penetrate the fragile foundation Nathan and Sophie have created. Will they allow past hurts and aspirations to interfere with a chance on love?

I truly enjoyed reading Sophie and Nathan’s story. Readers will instantly fall in love with Nathan as soon as he knocks on Sophie’s door in first pages of the story. Nathan was determined to get Sophie out of her “funk” and offering her the opportunity to work with him on the assignment exposed Sophie’s other talents. Sophie is dealing with heartbreak and emotions, as she spends more time with Nathan, she realizes Nathan brings out the best in her.

Tiye does a great job with character development and displaying various themes throughout this story. Resonant Solace allows readers to see how Sophie learns that happiness comes from within and not from other people, and that not everyone has to travel the same path. Nathan and Sophie were two people with a unique connection that its as if they could sense when they were in distress and gelled. They fought it, but when love is in the equation, it can bring you to your knees.
Overall, great story and good catching up with Mari and Jake and finding out a little more on Stony.

Note: I received an advanced copy from Honey Blossom Press via-NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.

Resonant Solace is a slow burn mixed with a musical history lesson. Through this musical journey exploring the legacy and history of Memphis Blues, Sophie and Nathan learn things about themselves that allows them to open up to love.

Sophie has lost her love for music due to a broken heart. She desperately wants to be able to have a musical career while having a family. But can she have it all?

Nathan has been successful in his career but he yearns for so much more. With the insistence from their friends, Amara and Jake, Nathan uses his current assignment as a way to get his friend out of the house and hopefully back to the music she loves.

Both Sophie and Nathan have demons from their past that they have to face and overcome. While researching for his writing, they are forced to face them head on. Along the way (and with a little spoken truth) sparks begin to fly and a situationship evolves into so much more.

I did not read Rifts and Refrains, and I believe that this story picks up from the end of that, but it can definitely be read as a standalone. Alyx Monroe and Winston James bring Sophie and Nathan to life. This is one of my favorite duos and they cannot miss.

I received this Advance Listener Copy (ALC) courtesy of Netgalley and the publisher to listen and review.

Resonant Solace by Tiye was soulful, emotional, and beautifully written. This story resonated with me deeply — especially Ms. Claudette’s storyline, which was both heartbreaking and powerful.

We follow Sophie, a gifted musician trying to rediscover herself after a period of heartache. Enter Nathan, a charming journalist with commitment issues, who offers her a chance to reconnect with her passion and her purpose. Their chemistry and emotional growth made this book such a moving experience.

This wasn’t just a romance — it was a journey of healing, passion, and self-discovery. Tiye layered Sophie and Nathan’s love story with the rich history of Black blues and country music, highlighting the often-unsung heroes of the genre. Those moments with Ms. Claudette were so vivid, it felt like the ancestors were speaking through her.

The scene at the historical museum, when Nathan broke down — I felt that in my soul. It was the cry of generations finally being heard.

The narration by Winston James and Alyx Monroe brought the story to life perfectly. Their voices gave every moment weight, warmth, and rhythm.

“Resonant Solace” is the perfect title because that’s exactly what this story is — resonant in every emotion, and full of solace in every note.

This is the second book following Rifts and Refrains, and Tiye did not disappoint.

‼️ ARC REVIEW ‼️

This is book 2 in Tiye's Resonance series, however none of the characters from Rifts & Refrains (book 1) make an appearance. So to me it's more of a standalone but with connected themes; music, romance, personal growth journeys, big dreams and support systems. Sophie is in her late 20s and going through a major loss, while still yearning for the love she grew up seeing between her parents. Nathan is a longtime friend and accomplished journalist that comes to Memphis for their friends' wedding and to research a documentary on the forgotten black blues and country music artists from the Civil Rights era. I thought it was a beautiful story that captures the complications of adulting that impact our love lives. As love doesn't happen in a vacuum. When you meet and or begin to connect with someone, that journey is often dictated by what each individual has going on in their life (family, dating histories -especially if recent, loss, grief, etc). My only disappointment is that although music was the foundation for the plot, there wasn't any original or live music on this audio like in Rifts and Refrains. Still, CHECK IT OUT!

My heart is full after finishing Resonant Solace. Sometimes your HEA doesn’t look how you expected. This was a beautiful love story about two people who had to learn to not be afraid of the big love they had for each other. Falling in love while still healing is complicated. Both Nate and "Twinkle" are complicated!
Sophie was too focused on what she didn’t have and couldn’t see what she did have was what she actually wanted. When what you think you wanted isn’t want what actually makes you happy, it can be hard to adjust your vision. However, a man that helps heal the heart that was broken by another is all green flags. Thankfully, her parents got her together!

This is a grown folks romance, no melodrama, just two people enjoying each other, leaning on each other, being intimate with each other while learning to accept this life changing love they never expected.

Alyx Monroe and Winston James did an amazing job with narration! There are parts of this book where their outstanding delivery married with the heavy emotion of the text, gave me goosebumps.

Received an Advance Listener Copy (ALC) through NetGally.

We have two great narrators Winston James & Alyx Monroe who brought Sophia & Nathan’s character’s to life.

We first meet Sophia is Background singer who also plays the guitar who decided she was going to stop singing, playing and socializing and went off the grid until Nathan her friend who is a well know journalist shows up on her door step.

Nathan see what’s state Sophia is in after her breakup and decided to intercede in her life and asks her to join him on a road trip to Memphis to be his photographer for his latest project.

Along their journey their friendship evolves into something that isn’t a full on relationship but they definitely are sharing the benefits.

Their story contains topics that cover love after a loss, Miscarriage, second chances and Blues history which was a bit too much for me. Which was a mini history lesson that expanded over to many chapters. I will say I was able to look past those parts because there was a good story and romance building between Sophia and Nathan.

Resonant Solace by Tiye
🎧 Narrated by Winston James & Alyx Monroe

> “Some love stories aren’t loud. They hum in quiet moments, growing stronger without saying a word.”

Resonant Solace is a heartfelt, deeply emotional follow-up to Rifts and Refrains, and Tiye absolutely delivers. What could have been a typical friends-to-lovers arc became so much more—thanks to her lyrical writing and fully realized characters.

The heroine discovers she’s capable of more than she ever believed—no longer shrinking in the shadow of limitation. The hero? He learns that being broken doesn’t make him unworthy of love. Their connection is layered with unspoken gestures, heavy silences, and the kind of mutual care that makes your heart ache in the best way.

The narration by Winston James and Alyx Monroe is phenomenal. Every pause, whisper, and emotional beat felt real—like I was living inside the story.

If you love romances that explore healing, vulnerability, and love that speaks louder in actions than words—this one’s for you.

Thank you @librofm and @dreamscape_media for the #gifted audiobook 🙌🏾

In Resonant Solace, Tiye tells a deep and caring story about how music and love can help you heal. The book is about Sophie, a musician who stopped playing because of a broken heart. She goes on a trip she doesn't want to take to Memphis to help write about the history of the blues. While there, she meets Nathan, a reporter looking for meaning in his work. The two of them find a strong connection.

This book is a great story about getting a second chance, finding your art again, and finding your voice after a big loss. The city of Memphis, with its long history of music, is a good place for the story. The city's rhythms and past are a lot like the feelings of the MCs in the book. Anyone who likes a good, heartfelt romance will find Resonant Solace to be a moving book that stays with you like a favorite song. It's a love story not just between two people, but also about finding your way back to yourself.

Audiobook Experience

The audiobook version is also excellent, thanks to narrators Winston James and Alyx Monroe. They do a wonderful job of bringing the main characters to life. With two voices, you can feel Sophie's sadness and her slow healing, as well as Nathan's journey and the real connection building between them. For a book all about sound and feelings, the audiobook is a great way to experience it.

This was a fabulous listen full of fun characters, real life stressors, and a right person right time romance! If you’re looking for a dual narrated listen, this one is done so well!

Sophie is a musician who leaves the group she plays guitar and sings background after a bad break up. She has hidden herself away to try and figure out who she is and who she wants to become.

Nathan is a journalist who recently made it big after writing about a forgotten musician who contributed greatly to song writing before his death. Now he is interested in a new piece and wants to bring along the friend of a friend Sophie to take photos to document his research.

As the two spend time exploring Memphis and discovering the forgotten history of the blues, they also discover that they have fiery chemistry. Through their journey they discover that their goals are different but their hearts feel the same. Follow along as these two discover love, each other, and themselves in this touching story.

Resonant Solace was a musical masterpiece. I enjoyed it immensely especially the emotion that was infused into it and the playful banter between Sophie and Nathan. I loved road tripping with them on their Black American music history tour. It was fascinating. I loved the way the historical aspects were interwoven into the story they enhanced the emotional impact and depth of it. I love the way this author does emotions, they leap off the page and resonate deeply within the reader. The narrators, Winston James and Alyx Monroe did an outstanding job with this story. They emoted it so, so well. I loved listening to them. I don't know if this was a device issue or not but I found Nathan's chapters were louder than Sophie's. I found myself having to raise the volume when it was her and lower it when it was him. Other than that I highly recommend this audiobook.

Resonant Solace by Tiye is a beautiful second-chance romance that blends love, friendship, and history in such a heartfelt way. Sophie and Nathan’s road trip through African American legacy of the blues was both moving and educational. I appreciated how much historical depth the author wove into their journey, giving the story more richness beyond the romance.

I loved watching Sophie and Nathan navigate their past trauma and grow from friends into something more. Their story felt authentic and emotional, and the pacing allowed their relationship to develop naturally.

The audiobook narration by Alyx Monroe and Winston James was excellent. Both narrators truly brought the characters to life and captured the emotional beats of the story perfectly.

This is a heartfelt, thoughtful, and inspiring read. Highly recommend for anyone who loves second-chance romances with depth and a strong sense of place.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this incredible arc! This was my second read from Tiye and I’m loving her writing with each story. We follow Sophie, a beautiful and talented musician, who is trying to find her way back to her life after taking a hiatus caused by heartache. Nathan, the sexy, journalist friend with commitment issues swoops in to offer Sophie the opportunity to figure out her next steps career wise and have some fun in the process. Sophie thinks she knows what she wants in life, but spending 3 months on the road with Nathan is about to
change everything she thought she knew about herself. This was a beautiful story of healing, passion, love and self discovery intertwined with some Memphis Blues history. In my opinion, this story really makes you want to root for both characters while also provoking the reader to reflect on what you really want from your relationships and how to achieve that.

Resonant Solace is book two; while it's book two, you could easily read it as a standalone, but if you want the full, rich experience between these characters, I would highly recommend reading Rifts and Refrains.

*Check trigger warnings*

Love this book, I think more so than the first! The character development and the relationship between Sophie and Nathan was so beautifully done. Two broken people trying to put each other back together. I wasn't a fan of the miscommunication, but it was done well and didn't really last that long like most books.

The audiobook is dual narrated by Winston James and Alyx Monroe. I enjoyed both of the narrators; they were both easy to listen to and also understand. Listened at 2x speed.

First, this was an ALC through NetGalley. Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher.

Next, the narration was okay. They have done better work. They are two of my top narrators, and it wasn't bad, just not their best, in my opinion.

Finally, the story was a slow burn, and I am not really a big fan of slow burns. However, if that is your thing, I believe you will like this. I don't like comparing multiple-part books, but I felt like the first one was a little bit more interesting. This one wasn't necessarily bad, but it seemed to drag and only got really good at 60%. I am glad the FMC and MMC got it together, and there was another happily ever after.

P.S.: The copy of the audiobook I got does not mention this, but trigger warnings included: miscarriage, racism, assault, and PTSD.

This was such a beautiful listen. The pacing flowed so well, and I loved the way Sophie and Nathan connected—their banter felt natural and real. Even though this is book two, I had no problem following along (and now I’m excited to go back and read Rifts and Refrains).

The way Black history and Memphis’s musical roots were woven in really stood out to me—it added so much depth and made me want to plan a trip there myself. It’s more than just a romance; it’s a story about second chances, rediscovering your dreams, and finding your voice again.

The narrators were excellent and made the story come alive. I’d definitely recommend this one.

This audiobook was a beautifully crafted experience—soulful, heartfelt, and rich with emotional depth. The storytelling was engaging, with a strong narrative pace that kept me invested throughout. I especially appreciated the natural banter and genuine connection between the characters. Sophie and Nathan’s relationship felt authentic and multidimensional, blending romance with meaningful personal growth.

The dual narration by Winston James and Alyx Monroe was a standout feature. Both brought their characters to life with warmth and nuance. Their performances were well-balanced and compelling, adding an extra layer of emotional resonance to an already powerful story.

Highly recommended for anyone who loves character-driven romance with heart and substance.

After reading Rifts and Refrains, I knew I had to read the next one. Tiye has a way of writing that feels soul-deep—you don’t just read the story, you feel it. Every emotion, every hesitation, every spark.

This is a romance about second chances—at love, at music, at finding your voice again when circumstances has silenced it. Sophie, scarred from heartbreak, puts down her guitar , her voice and her heart until an old friend, Nathan, pulls her into a project about the history of blues in Memphis. What starts as reluctance turns into something transformative—both for her music and her heart.

Winston James and Alyx Monroe absolutely bring this story to life.

Loved it!

Sometimes it’s perfectly okay to be a little selfish with your feelings when stepping into something new. Both Nathan and Sophie carried past trauma yet they helped each other heal in such an intentional way. The attention given to the Civil Rights Movement was powerful and beautifully woven into their story. As someone from Memphis, this book inspired me to dig a little deeper into my own city’s history. The care and passion Nathan put into his research really stood out. What made their love story even more special was that they started as friends first, laying the foundation for something truly beautiful. The way they showed up for each other and loved each other through everything was absolutely top tier!!

Unfortunately, Resonant Solace just didn’t resonate with me. While the premise had potential, I found myself struggling to stay interested in the story. The characters felt a bit flat, and the chemistry between Sophie and Nathan didn’t come across as genuine or believable. Because of that, it was hard for me to invest emotionally in their journey.

If I hadn’t received this as a free ALC, I’m not sure I would have finished it. While this one wasn’t for me, I know every reader’s taste is different—others may connect with it more than I did.

Resonant Solace is a tender, music-infused romance that captures both the ache of loss and the beauty of rediscovery. Sophie’s journey from silence back to song feels raw and authentic, while Nathan’s search for meaning gives the story an added depth beyond just love. Together, their connection grows slowly and beautifully, like a melody that lingers long after it’s played. Set against the soulful backdrop of Memphis blues, the novel weaves themes of healing, second chances, and the courage to open your heart again. A heartfelt, deeply romantic read that will stay with you like your favorite track on repeat.

I really enjoyed this one. Of course, it was good to catch up with the characters from Book 1 (Rifts & Refrains). Tiye does an amazing job of creating multi-dimensional characters, and this host of characters are no exception. Our MCs Sophie and Nathan are friends, but they can't deny their chemistry. Nathan convinces Sophie to join him on the road for a journalism assignment, and little did they know this would be the start of a beautiful romance.

I loved how sweet and caring Nathan was and his nickname for Sophie! I also loved that Sophie comes to the realization that to let love in, you must first embrace the love within.

Another lesson…

In love, black history and music! This series continued schooling us on black heritage when it comes to country music, blues and beyond. Nate and Sophie finally got on the same page and I adored them together when they weren’t frustrating me, lol! It was also great to catch up with Jake, Amara and the rest of the crew. Winston and Alyx did a great job bringing this story to life in audiobook. Another well written and thoroughly researched gem by Tiye!

Music, love, growth and maturity. When love doesn’t go the way you expected with your last and you’re afraid to love again. Sophie had to learn to trust and believe in herself. Nate comes in just when she needs him most.
