A pretty typical romance

~3.5 stars~

I was looking for a romantic comedy and this book was recommended. It was ok. Even though easily predictable it was still sweet and i liked it was a complete story. It was pretty cheesy overall but made for a decent no angst, simple romance. It also had a good epilogue. This book was never really funny for me or had me emotionally invested but for an easy, light read it will do the trick.

A fun romantic comedy

As the daughter of a billionaire, 29-year-old Annie Hartford has been raised by her sexist father to be strictly ornamental. Her one contribution, as far as he's concerned, is to marry a man who can take over his financial empire when he retires. Unfortunately, Annie thinks the man her father has picked out is a cynical user, but her father doesn't care. He threatens Annie with a one-way ticket from riches to rags if she dumps her fiance. That's a hard choice to make, and Annie hesitates until minutes before walking down the aisle. Then she bolts in her father's limousine, barreling down the highway dressed in her wedding gown, veil and a diamond tiara, until the limo breaks down in the small town of Pinckney, Georgia.

Sam Ballard, a lawyer and owner of the Dixieland Cafe, is as amazed as the rest of the Pinckney population when Annie hits town. It soon becomes apparent to Sam that Annie is in dire straits, and he makes it possible for Annie to start a new life by employing her as a waitress in his cafe. Soon Annie is living in a garage apartment, wearing hand-me-down clothes, and using a loaner bicycle for transportation. It's a major culture shock, but there are some wonderful compensations as she makes friends in town, most especially with her handsome boss.

Both Annie and Sam have been burned by romance, and are leery of a new entanglement of the heart, but before very long, they find each other too hard to resist.

This is a lively, fun read, with two attractive, sympathetic romantic protagonists, and a host of quirky, small-town inhabitants to brighten up the story. If you enjoy romantic comedy, you will have a great time with this book.

I rate this story as follows:

Heroine: 4 stars
Hero: 5 stars
Subcharacters: 5 stars
Romance Plot: 4 stars
Setting: 5 stars
Writing: 5 stars
Overall: 5 stars

A quick romance following an escape from an almost marriage set up by billionaire father. Annie wants to manage her own life, but Daddy dearest cuts off all her funds to make her marry after 3 months of dating. Annie runs, stealing a limo, wearing her wedding finery. She ends up in small town with a broken down car, no money and suddenly the town adopts her. Sam, lawyer, diner owner, used car salesman enters picture. From there pretty typical and predictable plot, with a couple laugh out loud moments. Not bad for a quick listen.

The narration was well done, The characters were excellently portrayed.

This wasn't the best book I've read. As a matter of fact, it was rather disappointing.

The characters were likeable but there was no chemistry between them. I would have expected Annie to be a spoiled rotten rich kid that had been overindulged her whole life but that wasn't the case. When she jilted her fiance at the altar, she had very few hiccups with adjusting to a "normal" lifestyle. It was like she knew everybody would look out for her and expected them to do so.

I don't know much about Sam. His life was slowly revealed but when he met Annie, she copped an attitude with him and he didn't like her from that point on. Where and how did he fall in love with her? Yeah, he was attracted to her but I felt no connection between the two of them.

The story was unrealistic. I love fiction as much as the next guy but this was too much for me. *Spoiler* When Annie gets to Darla's, this very expensive pink diamond tiara flies into a tree and Annie just leaves it there. She gives the wedding dress to Darla who faints (why?) but leaves this tiara in the tree. Darla remarries Bo, her ex-con, ex-husband and she makes him go get the tiara weeks after the thing went up there. Sam and Annie stand up for them at their wedding and miraculously, Annie produces an Appraisal and a Certificate of Insurance. She'd left without her purse or any money and had nothing but the clothes on her back. That had been made very clear throughout the story. So where did these documents come from? Sorry but that ruined the entire story for me.

I thought the ending was predictable (the whole story was) and I didn't much care for it. Maybe this novel needed to be longer or something, I don't know. I was reading along, thinking 'I've come this far, I just as well finish it' and then BAM! It was finished. What happened? My head is still spinning.

This book will appeal to a lot of people. Of that, I have no doubt but it just didn't hit me in the heart like romances are supposed to.

This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Very enjoyable

Cinderella in reverse, rich girl in fantasy bridal dress escapes from a fatherly enforced wedding and ends up as a waitress in a small town. This totally delights her as she is determined to be normal. Of course there is a handsome man handy for romance purposes and a relationship develops along with friendship with the town's ladies. Towards the end there is a quick resolution of her ex-fiancee, father and missing mother. Most of the story involves her developing relationship and personal growth, while the dramatic elements which originally propelled the story vanished until they finally had to be resolved in order to end the book.

Annie has always done what her Billionaire father demanded/expected of her including preparing to marry the man that he chose for her to marry. All of a sudden minutes before walking down the aisle she runs out of the church stealing the limo and running off realizing that to marry a man she not only did not love but came close to hating was not something she could/would do! She runs all the way to a very small town in GA where the limo breaks down, she has no money and her bank account and credit cards are frozen. This small town was her saving grace! It is not great literature but is a warm and cozy book of love and redemption and the real meaning of having friends! Made me laugh and cry. A feel good book during Covid! Thank you Charlotte Hughes!

Chuckles for days

Reading this story the main characters were hilarious. You have a pretty serious Jack of most trades and an heiress with a smart mouth. The story is so down to earth you feel like it could be a true story vs a fictional one even if you do have an heiress as one of the main characters

Funny & sweet

Annie was a little over the top perfect, as was Sam but together made a cute story of funky love. Best character was Darla & her ex con husband “who was really a good guy”! Please?

It was simple

The villain was easily defeated. The hero and heroine didn't really get to know each other. It was cute but too wholesome. Life isn't a Hallmark movie.

In the book See Bride Run! By Charlotte Hughes you meet Atlanta’s Iron and Steel billionaire heiress Annie Hartford. She has no desire to marry a man she does not love, which is where the runaway bride part comes in. Annie’s very controlling father has been calling the shots her entire life but this time he has pushed her too far that she hijacks the family limo, only to have it break down in small town Pinckney, Georgia. Then Annie meets small town lawyer and restaurant owner Sam Ballard who has been unlucky in love as well with his own runaway bride. So the last thing he expects is Annie coming into town in a short waitress uniform and breaking every dish in his Dixieland Café since she only graduated high school and then finishing school. Still, he can’t very well fire her because she has won the hearts of everyone in town and he starts to fall in love with her but he doesn’t know if she will stay or go running back to her rich father.

The first sentence of the book is “The Wedding had the makings of a Fairytale.” I knew that this would not be a fairytale wedding because the title of the book is See Bride Run! Which is a dead giveaway that at least the first wedding will not be happening. Annie seems like a young woman who has had her entire life mapped out for her by her very controlling and rich father. She has been the good obedient daughter who listened to her father especially after her twin brother was killed in an automobile accident. I could relate a bit with her since at first I didn’t know what to do with my life after high school but it wasn’t until I got out into the world that I knew I needed to go back to school and find a career that I can love. When Annie first meets Sam after first arriving at Pinckney they didn’t know what to do with the attraction that hey initially felt for one another. It was fun watching how they slowly got to know one another while trying not to fall in love since they both have had bad luck with love in the past. As I was reading the book there were a few punctuation mistakes that kind of distracted me from some of the story though I was able to get past them because the relationship that Hughes was slowly building between Annie and Sam had me turning the pages to find out what would they both do next.

Reading Annie and Sam’s journey to finally finding the love that they both have wanted but seemed like they might never have it was a bit slow with some pit stops of misunderstandings and getting to know one another while having the whole town interfering. I felt that this book was a fun and exciting romance novel that had me from the very first sentence. I especially loved the epilogue because she left me feeling fully satisfied with how Annie and Sam’s romance ended without leaving me feeling like there was something missing which has happened sometimes when I’ve read a romance novel. I’ve read Hughes’ Kate Holly Crazy series books and when she went on a break from publishing new books I’ve always kept an eye out for when she would finally publish something new. So when I got a message from her that she had a new release and wanted to know if I would like to review the book. I obviously said yes because I knew she would deliver a good romantic read for me and that is why I give this book 4 stars.

Eldon Wentworth (groom, Duke, aka Jimbo) & Katherine Anne Annie Hartford (29, bride, billionaire, twin) were to be married in Portland, Maine.
Winston Hartford (father) had no problem paying for a very lavish upscale wedding.
In 1930, grandfather had founded Hartford Iron & Steel. Vera Holmes (60+ housekeeper) & Snedley (chauffer) work for the family.
Eldon was to manage the plant & Annie was to run the Hartford Foundation.
The wedding never happened.

Samuel Sam Aaron Ballard (lawyer, Darla boss) owned the Dixieland Café (Pickney, GA). Darla Mae Jenkins (waitress) worked for him. Ms. Flo & her daughter Patricia work in the kitchen. Everybody that is/was somebody had eaten there.
Guess were Annie ended up.
Bic Fenwick (Mechanic/owner, Fenwick’s Towing & Garage) observed smoke coming from under the hood of the limousine.
Sheriff Harry Howie Hester ask her for her DL.

The crowd was starting to get larger: Marge Dix (60), Agnes Moore (librarian), Edyth Petrie (80, sister), & Ethyl Petrie (80, sister) had their own opinions about the matter.
Annie promised Darla the wedding dress.
The Limo was off to Bic’s place.
Sam gave Annie a ride to Darla’s trailer & back to the Dixieland Café.
Annie meets Vera BFF Lillian Calhoun.
Darla takes Annie to Ernie’s Place. It’s hopping. Darla left with Hank.
Darla was ill so Annie is going to take her place for the night at Dixieland Café.
Gladys (head breakfast waitress) would show her the ropes.
Sam came in later he was not thrilled.
Annie returns to the trailer after work & meets Boswell Bo Jenkins (husband).
Change of plans she ends up at Sam’s house & meets Martha Fender (Sam’s housekeeper).
Next stop Annie movies into Lillian’s garage apartment.
Annie is off to college. Betty gives her the class schedule. Mr. Barnwell is the Accounting 101 instructor.
Last class Introduction to Business Concepts.
Darla bachelorette party & Annie classmate Nelson as the male stripper.
The Okra Festival came/went.
Darla & Bo got married.

Will Annie & Sam fall in love?
Will Annie return home & claim her title & vast fortune?
What is Lillian Calhoun secret?

My favorite store in the South Piggly Wiggly.

Defiantly Andy & Barney Fife of Mayberry 1st came to my mind. Car 54, Boss Hog, Starsky & Hutch.

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written delightful romantic comedy book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make great romantic comedy movie, or mini TV series. 1 book I didn’t want to put down. It goes to the top of my best list for 2015. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.

The whole charming and delightful story of See Bride Run- a story of second chances at life and over-coming insecurities to fall helplessly in love with someone you perceived as unattainable or unsuitable- literally played out like a truly brilliant romantic comedy from the very beginning to the last word of the prologue.

A witty and refreshing take on the runaway bride plot, it sees young Annie Hartford- a beautiful socialite who has been groomed from birth simply to be nothing more than the perfect housewife to a husband chosen by her domineering multi-millionaire father, a man so archaic in his misogynistic beliefs that he sent his daughter to finishing school to obtain skills in order to help her gain her MRS degree rather than to college to learn an actual skill. The tale starts with Annie deciding to take control of her life after suffering in silence for far too long and after a series of events she ends up in Pinckney, Georgia where small town community really means small town family, where looking after one another is just a way of life and where the locals take a down-on-her-luck Annie and show her what love and acceptance is all about.

Charlotte Hughes has managed to construct an entire town that immediately captivates you, the inhabitants, each individual personality and their unique and quirky traits reels you in like a wide mouth bass. The interaction with one another and the constant bickering and jesting and cajoling had me in stitches. It’s such a wonderful tale and utterly refreshing because there isn’t a mountain of prosaic graphic sex scenes, it’s sweet and soft and for once you have to get off your perverted and sex scene saturated mind and actually use your imagination when it comes to the love play. Sam, the multi-tasking cafe owner, lawyer and car salesman takes an instant dislike to our unfortunate and intrepid heroine Annie and that alone makes for some of the best and most hilarious scenes I’ve had the good fortune to encounter, the dialogue between the two sparkles and shimmers with great comedic timing and biting sarcasm.

‘Sam shook his head as if to clear it. “Holy hell Buster she knocked me off my feet.” He glared at Annie, who looked quite pleased with herself. “She sure did,” Buster said. “That’s assault and battery if I ever saw it. You want to press charges? ‘Course, you know folks are gonna tease you something fierce about being beat up by a girl.”

It might be a gentle and unfurling love story between Annie and Sam and about them over-coming adversity to get to the HEA point but I do feel that Annie’s independence and striking out on her own was the real focal point. She’s an absolute gem of a character to read about with a Bambi like innocence that seems to draw the locals and Sam to her but under that seemingly naive exterior she’s the strongest and most considerate person you could probably have in your corner, strong and just utterly likable. So together the initial meeting, the growing closer and the gorgeous prologue Annie and Sam combined make this a winning romance in my eyes.

3.5 stars rounded to 4

I received this audio by the author in exchange for an honest review. First of all, I want to thank Ms. Hughes for reaching out and offering this book. I really enjoyed Elizabeth Klett, the narrator. This was a sweet romance without any angst. Annie leaves her future husband stranded at the altar in Atlanta, GA. Her father is a billionaire and has chosen Annie’s husband for her. Annie’s father thinks that she is only good for hosting and preparing for large parties and wants a man to run his empire. However, Annie has decided that she will no longer be ruled by her dad or any man. She quickly leaves the church without her purse, any money, or clothes.
Annie drives until the Mercedes that she hijacked from her father dies and winds up in Pinckney, GA. I had to laugh as Annie is wearing a dress that most women would die for but quickly realizes the predicament that she is in when the local sheriff demands that she gets out of the car. With miles of tulle, Annie squeezes out of the car to be met with gaping eyes from the small Ga town.

Annie’s first round with the sheriff/restaurant owner/lawyer does not go well. Sam Ballard wants no part of loving a woman since he also had a bad experience with his future bride. Reluctant, Sam hires Annie as a waitress in his restaurant. He can’t very well fire Annie, even though she breaks several dishes. The town folk have come to love Annie and want to help her to become settled in her new life.

Annie had grown up with not wanting anything, but now she has to learn to survive on her own. Wearing second hand clothes, moving into a garage apartment, and getting around on a bicycle are just a few of the new changes that Annie must face. Sam has come to love Annie but is worried that she could easily run back to her daddy and beg for forgiveness.

I really enjoyed listening to this book. There was a twist and a slight mystery towards the end. I felt that the end of the book was rushed and could have included more detail on both Sam and Annie’s life. The twist that occurred could have also been a tad bit longer and could have given the reader more detail on how Annie’s relationship changed with Lillian and with Sam. I am from Atlanta, GA and could definitely see how a small town would embrace Annie as one of their own.

This review was originally published on my blog: loveserially.wordpress.com

Quick & Dirty summary: Annie Hartford may be an heiress, but when she shows up in Pinckney’s main street, she is driving a stolen limo, in a designer wedding dress, wearing hundreds of thousands of dollars in diamonds and penniless. Sam Ballard is used to multi-tasking, but after being jilted at the alter Sam isn’t looking for a new bride. But when Sam’s star waitress manipulates things to get Annie a job at his diner, tempers flare. When Annie begins to take her life into her own hands, Sam must decide if he’s going to follow his instincts to protect his heart, or follow his heart by protecting Annie.

What I loved most was the sense of community in the novel. The small town setting made a nice contrast to the austere wealth Annie was raised in. It made a subtle argument that money can’t buy you happiness, but friends make even difficult times bearable.

I wasn’t as big a fan of the constant arguing between Sam and Annie. A certain amount of bickering is fine and can spice up a relationship, but it was over the top. Sam was constantly mad about something, and Annie wasn’t much better. I didn’t even understand half of the reasons why Annie reacted the way she did, so most of the novel I was kind of baffled by their behavior.

That being said, it was a quick read that made me feel warm and cozy in the end, even if the conclusion of the novel was wrapped up a little too nicely with a bow. The epilogue went a long way to help me overlook my annoyance with Annie and Sam; it was just so cute.

Is it worth buying? (Kindle $2.99)

For 211 pages at $2.99, I probably wouldn’t buy it. But, it is free on Amazon Prime, which is the perfect price for me. Who doesn’t like free? For those who don’t have Amazon Prime, if you want a sweet romance with not a lot of sex in it (actually I wouldn’t even call them sex scenes because of the copious use of euphemisms) then this is probably the book for you.

I don't usually go for books like this. I usually don't even pick them up to attempt to read them because I hate plain romance novels but I decided to give this romantic comedy a try. I am so glad I did! If all romance novels were this fun to read I would try to read them all.

Annie runs away on her wedding day, in her full wedding attire. Away from a bully of a father and a liar of a fiancé. With no money and no where to go she has to rely on the kindness of those around her for help. She never imagined falling for the first guy to see her in the small town of Pinckney, Georgia. After a few weeks of being happy and independent she begins to wonder when her father will find her. And what he'll do once he does find her.

First off, how cute were Annie and Sam? Adorable! I knew they would get together as soon as they saw each other and immediately started insulting one another. I thought Sam would hate her since she skipped out on her wedding because that was done to him. But then he tells the story and it becomes clear why he wasn't so upset about that. It almost made me squeal out loud when he kissed her the first time, I was so happy.

Darla was so sweet and so was everyone else in that whole town. These towns must not exist anymore because I have never lived anywhere like that. I grew up in a small city and everyone was NOT this nice. I think it would be nice to live somewhere like that though. I was confused by Bo at first but all of that was later explained.

There really wasn't anything that I didn't like about this book. Maybe Eldon but he got what was coming to him. The ending was fitting and the epilogue was the cutest thing I have ever read in my life. This book has made it to my favorites list and I am recommending it to everyone!

I absolutely loved See Bride Run. The characters are endearing and the author, Charlotte Hughes, portrays them in such a lovely way. There's so much character detail that I could picture each of them in my imagination. At times, I thought the story was going along as a typical chick lit. Then suddenly the author threw in some fantastic plot surprises that I just didn't see coming and my jaw dropped.

I loved learning about what it's like living in a small town and was totally rooting for Sam and Annie. The author made each character unique in their own way, yet I was able to easily connect with them. Even the characters I didn't like were the characters I wasn't supposed to like (Eldon and Annie's Father) so the author did the writing justice there.

Charlotte Hughes is a master at injecting just the right amount of humor. There were some brilliant laugh out loud moments in the story, especially concerning Darla. Equally, there were lots of tender, passionate and fiery moments between Annie and Sam.

I would love to see a sequel with these characters to see how life is progressing for them in their world. Really brilliantly written story, with only a few minor editing problems. The only thing I felt didn't quite fit was the speed in which Sam and Annie went from a strained relationship to being in love. But I was able to look past that and suspend reality because of the great story. I can't wait to read more by Charlotte Hughes.

While seemingly a typical romantic comedy, this fun and feel-good book has quirkiness and twists that make it stand out from the bunch. I enjoyed reading about the eclectic group of townspeople and their crazy lives. I've read and watched many books/movies in this genre, so considering the fact that this book kept my interest and even had a few surprises, that says a lot!

My main criticism would be that the beginning of the story felt very rushed and we didn't quite get enough time to get to know the characters. I kept having to remind myself that Annie used to be rich for example. The author would _tell_ us about the characters, but never really _showed_ us. Why did Annie and Sam hate each other so much from the beginning is another example. It felt like the author knew these characters so well that she kind of forgot that we didn't. We're just supposed to accept everything without evidence and consequently it felt like I was missing part of the story. I wish I was better at explaining these thoughts. I definitely understand if you don't understand, haha.

In the end I am glad I read the book and might look for others by the author in the future.

Note to readers:

2. I strive to fully use all 5 stars. A 3 star rating still means I liked the book!

3. Just like I don't expect my skittles to taste like fine dark chocolate, I don't expect (or even want) my fun paranormal romance books to be in the same category as classic literature. Therefore I try to avoid a lot of comparisons.

Annie Hartford has found herself in a terrible situation. After breaking off her engagement to a man she doesn't love, her billionaire father has frozen her bank accounts and all assets as a way to force her down the aisle. Minutes before she is to head to the altar, she makes a break for it and finds herself in a small town in Georgia with nothing but the wedding dress on her back and a diamond tiara on her head. Being on her own for the first time in her life, will she be able to survive or will the urge to run home be too strong?

I really enjoyed reading this story! Even though she has lived her life trying to please her father, Annie is still a strong character who is willing to try things out. She learns to cherish the small things in life and comes to acknowledge that money isn't everything. She sees that there are still good people in the world, people who are willing to help out a woman in need even though they don't know her.

I only have two minor complaints about this story. I wish there would have been a little more background information on both Sam and Lillian, especially since they both have a special place in Annie's future. I also would have liked the story to have a tad more drama. The ending really kicked the drama/suspense up and I would have liked to see that throughout the whole book. Since it was just at the end, the story felt a little rushed. Regardless, this was still an pleasant read with an awesomely sweet epilogue! I was drawn in by the author's writing style and look forward to reading more by Charlotte Hughes.

See Bride Run is hilarious, gripping, and engaging. I loved all of the characters and how well developed most of them are. There's a lot of back and forth between Sam and Annie from the get go that is really fun to witness. Charlotte captures the heart of small town characters really well.

I do, however, worry that her "small town" is a little too big. Not sure if that make sense, but in parts it's painted like the towns of less than 3,000...okay, less than 1,000 if we're being truthful, that I've lived in my entire life. However, there's a Piggly Wiggly, a K-Mart and a community college? Not likely in a town where they know that someone purchased a new garter belt! The way the characters and the town were painted for the most part spoke of a much smaller town, so having the larger chains and multiple shopping options just didn't fit. I don't think that would be overly distracting though, unless you've only ever known real small town life.

The characters are eccentric, loving, and pull together in a time of need. The way small town people are. I enjoyed watching Annie adapt and grow into small town life, though a little more struggling on the front would've made it more realistic.

Overall, I really enjoyed this one and highly recommend it to any of you that enjoy a funny, lighthearted romance with an independent and entertaining cast of characters!

Four stars only because of some inconsistencies and editing errors that have been shared with the author.

This review is from: See Bride Run!: (Romantic Comedy) (Kindle Edition)
I really enjoyed See Bride Run! This contemporary romantic comedy tickled my funny bone and warmed my heart. It is the first book I've ready by Charlotte Hughes and I can't wait to read more.

Annie is a wealthy heiress and she runs from the alter the day of the wedding to keep from marrying the man her father has chosen for her. Eldon is just like her father: a controlling bully who only cares about money. Stealing her father's limo she heads to the small town of Pinkney, Georgia. Suddenly with no money to her name she relies on the generosity of strangers, who quickly become friends, to help her get back on her feet. While she was used to money she quickly settles into her new life as a waitress, college student, and living on a budget. This happened too easy for me to believe, but that is my only complaint.

Sam owns the Dixieland Cafe. He expected Annie to be a stuck up rich snob. He was instantly attracted to the beautiful woman with long legs. Annie proves to be more than meets the eye. How could he resist her charms when she has a heart of gold? Still, it isn't an easy journey for the two of them and the constant ribbing and misunderstanding were spot on.

This book had some twists I didn't see coming. This is a romantic comedy worthy of being turned into a Hallmark movie.

What's a girl to do when her father is trying to force her to marry a man who can take over his financial empire when he retires and not for love? See Bride Run opens with Annie Hartford ditching her wedding and stealing the family limousine and getting as far as the small town of Pinckney, Georgia when the car broke down. As luck would have it, Annie meets Sam Ballard, a lawyer and owner of the Dixieland Cafe who seeing that she needs help gives her a waitressing job while they have a love-hate work relationship.

She goes from a lavish lifestyle full of parties, chauffeurs and more money that one knew what to do with to a small garage apartment, hand-me-down clothes, and using a loaner bicycle. Following the formula for a Romantic Comedy you can quickly guess what happens but the journey to get there is quite the adventure and not only are you rooting for the heroine but you also fall in love with the characters who live in Pinckney.

I was surprised at how much I actually enjoyed this book, I don't read a lot of Romantic Comedies but I was immediately engrossed in the story and the people. I would not be surprised if this book becomes a movie! I think one of the other reviewers (Dianne Socci-Tetro) said it best with "The story includes a bit of a mystery, a lot of humorous shenanigans and at least one steamy love scene. It concludes with the requisite 'happily ever after'."

I received a copy of this book for review purposes, my opinions are 100% my own. #BrideRun

De auteur was me bekend.

3 sterren.

A fairly simplistic and unbelievable tale about an heiress who runs away from her wedding by sneaking out the back door of the church and taking off in her father’s limo just minutes before she’s to walk down the aisle. She did try to call off the wedding days earlier but her autocratic father wouldn’t hear of it and threatened to freeze all of her assets. So without any identification or money, she ends up in a small town where people just want to help each other and she’s such a kind and wonderful person that everyone loves her.

Wow, I just don’t know where to go from there. A romance? Yes. No problem with that. She meets a really nice guy whose only fault appears to be that he so easily jumps to the wrong conclusions. And yes, there is comedy with the majority of it taking place at the beginning of the tale. The characters are quirky, interesting and quite likable.

But to specifically discuss the unbelievable aspects would be giving away too much of the story. Although I will say that a piece of it involves how easily she gives away the only assets she has without having a penny or a job, and her apparent disregard for insurance fraud.

Not a bad read and for the most part light and easy, but too many things just don’t come across as realistic.
