.25 stars for what it could be like. Tho tiktok would love it. They would even hype it.
A very cheap rip off of that “other book” that I happen to very much love and adore. I didn’t like this book at all. My problem wasn’t that it was similar similar to that “other book”, as book dupes doesn’t bother me much. But rather it’s this book only that I just don’t happen to like, and simply despised it. It was really corny, cringe and with the WMC as a whiny and annoying character, and a hero with zero personality except making big talks 💀
🪧“Say his name again, and I’ll bend you right over this table and fuck you until the only name you can say is mine. You’ll be so full of me you won’t even remember who you were thinking about before.”
And mind you they just met. This line alone ruined the mood and then and there I knew it was going to go downhill for me. It was catered and written around the tropes and «spice» doesn’t matter how they don’t just serve tho

So apparently he asked her to be his fake gf and propositioned her for it too. I get he wanted her as a hand candy to reform his playboy image yada yada but why tf would she agree? What’s in it for her?
Along with that, the conflict towards end seemed to have been used to just to increase the word count? What was even the point of it? There was 0 grovel and 0 angst? Literally no chemistry. The boy obsessed trope couldn’t alone save this book just because author says that he’s. Their sex scene were whack too. The ending was rushed and boring. Overall, it’s a pass from me!

Mediocre. This book is a plagiarized, cheap, badly written, awful rip off The Favor by Suzanne Wright, which is laughable because it’s one of my favorite book. It’s like the Shein version of a high end piece of clothing.

I had the literal best time reading this book. Beck and Margo are seriously a new favorite couple of mine and so is this book! I loved every single second to this. Beck is literally so hot! I want that man for myself! He is absolute perfection 😭. I just finished this book and I already miss it so much. If I could give this book a higher rating than 5 stars, I WOULD.

Also, we're like 6 chapters in and they're already pining hard for each other. I get insta-attraction, but possessiveness? Jealousy? Bleh.
I'm not the biggest fan of fake dating storylines, but I appreciate one when it's believable and well done.
These two arranged a fake relationship out of nowhere, for questionable reasons, and even had the "we need to set some rules" speech.
We all know you're going to break those rules, guys.
You can't stop eye-fucking each other. Just jump into a real relationship and call it a success.
Jeez.

You know what…I have not had the best time with highly recommended books from booktok. The irony is that I’m not even ON TikTok, they just make their way over to the bookstagram world, and I gobble them up…like an idiot. I hoped for so much more from this book, but instead I got chapters and chapters of boring interactions, an Adorably Clueless FMC who I just wanted to shove down so that she would shut the fuck up, an asshole MMC who was good for one thing and one thing only, and a whole bunch of pointless fluff. Including but not limited to…that ridiculous third act “breakup” over a stupid secret that really wasn’t even all that. MEH!

sigh. guys like Beckham Sinclair (H) only exist in fiction. 😪 i give credit to his Taylor Swifts “Mastermind” themed plans because his obsession with the h and how he treats her throughout this book is the strongest point of Black Ties and White Lies. what bothers me the most is the fact that the h has it too easy.
“It’s insulting that you think I’m normal. I’m far from normal, Margo. I’ll go to great lengths to get what I want.”
i love fake engagement/marriage scenarios. however, this one is flimsy at best. the h uproots her life to follow her cheating (ex) boyfriend. then shes doing the same with his brother (H). i dont understand why she agrees to his proposal. i mean, whats in it for her? simply for a reassurance (not 100% guaranteed) that she’ll get an interview for her dream job?? seems hardly believable. 🤷♀️ this book has FIVE straight chapters of a sex scene, which is hot but also excessive and too drawn out imo. overall, ive read better romances with the same tropes. this wont be my first choice to recommend to people, but its not too bad.

Black Ties & White Lies was recommended to me so many times. But honestly, I read it because of the author's video of a particular scene. Marketing genius!
Beck has always had feelings for his brother’s ex-girlfriend, Margo. A little year after the break up with the brother, Beck needs Margo’s help and propositions her with a proposal. Margo makes it far from easy for him. She fights him tooth and nail. It’s glorious.
Page nine is when I fell in love with Beck. The man buys a company just to talk to the women of his desires and heart. Why? Because she refused all his calls. From that moment on, I knew I was In for a fun and wild ride.

So many times, I couldn’t stop laughing. Black Ties & White Lies is a must read

I wish someone would give me back the hours I spend reading this book, cus it was so fucking bad, I don't know where to start
About the writing:
It was the worst, idk if the text didn't went through any corrections or something, but it was written like 10 year's old first wattpad fanfic.
Many times I needed to read again the whole paragraph just to understand what the sentence meant or go back few pages so I'd know what is happening where and even then, I still couldn't understand some scenes.
Also what drove me mad were dialogues, to be specific - how men talked, cus they didn't talk, they GROWLED, ROARED, HISSED EVERY DAMN TIME THEY OPENED THEIR MOUTH wtf are they dogs???
About the plot
There wasn't any
This book has no interest being this long, cus nothing actually happened, it was a mix of random scenes put together.
False advertising:
Marriage of convenience - no, they didn't get married
Fake dating - they didn't date, they jumped each other almost immediately after first meeting
Workplace romance - there were maybe three scenes in the office
About the characters
Main girl was so not like other girls, insecure, cus he's so handsome and wealthy and could have every model and miss worldwide he wanted, but she's so plain🥺 *insert eye roll*
Despite this book being over 400 pages idk anything about this girl besides three facts:
1) she was dating Beck's younger brother
2) she likes to draw
3) she likes some weird coffee
Nothing else, no description of anything except how much she wants to fuck Beck 🙄
Beck was supposed to be this billionaire possessive boyfriend all booktok love yeah??? Well he wasn't, also don't know anything about him except three facts:
1) he's very rich
2) has younger brother
3) "can talk dirty, but sweet at the same time"🙄
But imo he was borderline too possessive and controlling, example, he took main girl to her apartment to pack so they could fly to his apartment in NY, which he informed her abt like
5 min earlier, to which she makes argument, cus like bro should've given her some time to prepare??? So when she didn't want to go, he grabbed her and forced her to go pack, like there were these few scenes that he grabbed her too roughly and like it didn't feel like good kind of possessiveness just borderline lil abusive
Their relationship
There wasn't ANY kind of chemist between the main characters, he fell in love the first time he saw her🙄, she loved him since like week after they met🙄
They were just cardboard pieces without any history, thoughts, or personalities, just let's fuck hot billionaire and let's force this girl into fake marriage so she'd love me, yey😀
The pacing was so much off, she literally saw the guy for the second time, moved into his apartment, got him coffee as his new "assistant" fucked him, drama, the end, in the span of a month.
It all felt like the author saw a bunch of these quote videos on tiktok, decided to take the most viral ones into the book, throw sex scenes and publish it.
This is the longest review I've ever wrote so hope enjoyed, cus I suffered so u don't have to.
Also it's after midnight and I should very much prefer to be sleeping so idk if anything I wrote makes sense.

Beck was such a hopeless romantic and I loved to see a soft side from him , then he was 🛐. Margo I liked her but at the same time have not much to say about her .
Yeah - have mention that at first I almost gave up at how insta -lust hate hate insta lust /love but continue reading cause these 2 have a past together 🖤.

It took me over two weeks to finish this book. Half the reason might be my schedule, but the other half is that this book unfortunately doesn't offer much depth to the characters and plot. Therefore I wasn't looking forward to open this book and finish it.
"My heart can't live here if it's not living here with you."
It makes me sad because this book could have been so much better with the way the story was set up. Because Black Ties & White Lies takes place in the city that I love and live, and the trope that I like to read with extra little spice to it. Nonetheless, I could only give this book 2.5 stars.

I really don’t like leaving bad reviews because I know authors put their heart in their work but :
It felt like the author took everything Booktok likes (or what’s popular) to put it in the same book. That’s way too much.
I think you can play a Booktok bingo with this book.
Some things were RUSHED, did he really just say that at the very beginning of the book ? Why ?
A plot magically appears at 80% of the book to create a third act breakup (gosh I was mad)
2 stars because the spice was actually not bad but for the rest I am sorry I didn’t like it.

Black Ties and White Lies was everything. Definitely one of my highlights of this month and one of my new favorites of this year. It starts so fast and it's so easy to get into. Margo is approached by her ex-bf's brother, Beckham, about becoming his new assistant but also eventually weave this tale that they fell in love and becoming engaged. Obviously, everything is fake. Or is it?
There's so much history and secrets you do not know at first, but let me tell you that BECKHAM SINCLAIR IS ONE OBSESSED MFER! He bought a company just for the chance to speak with Margo because she wasn't picking up her calls lmao. And many will say that's intense and kinda toxic and maybe a little bit unhinged. But that's Beck. I love it and it was so funny to see him try his hardest to make Margo fall in love with him as well.
He's also a billionaire and lives in this beautiful penthouse. And when Margo agrees to this farce, she goes to live with him in New York. Closed quarters, forced proximity, you know... everything you need in a romance book. But I also really, really adore the domesticity of these two. Of their relationship. They fit together so well! All the little things they did together, like eating dinner, watching TV while he's working but putting her feet on his lap, talking for hours at night... they did it all! It was so obvious they were meant to be and that they were actually soulmates okay.
The steam in this book is insane. THERE'S LIKE A FOUR-CHAPTER SMUTTY SCENE AT ONE POINT? Snowed-in in a small town with only a honeymoon suite available? You bet there's gonna be some fun times. Beck and Margo have definitely become one of my favorite romance couples. And I'm just waiting for more in this world!! I hope there are more books and this becomes a series.
