Thanks to Love Notes for providing the eARC. This is my honest opinion.

Charming, Wicked, Addictive

In ‘My Very Wicked Hero’, forty-four-year-old Victoria wants nothing more than to have a baby. She deliberately sets out to find a man who is willing to have a child with her. That wish turns out to be shared by Connor, a former MMA fighter covered in tattoos, with a charming yet mysterious presence. However, instead of rushing into things, they decide to first find out whether they are truly compatible.

Kate Perry’s writing style is smooth, clear, and uncomplicated. As a result, the story reads easily, with a strong focus on dialogue and the dynamic between the characters.

The story is told from two perspectives: Victoria’s and Connor’s. Connor, in particular, is an intriguing character; his charm and air of mystery make him compelling to follow. The chemistry between Victoria and Connor feels genuine and clearly forms the heart of the story. The secondary characters, however, remain somewhat superficial and could have been more fully developed.

The ending of ‘My Very Wicked Hero’ feels rather abrupt, causing the story to conclude more quickly than expected.

Overall, ‘My Very Wicked Hero’ is a book for readers who enjoy romantic suspense without overly heavy themes. It is an accessible and enjoyable read, perfect for those moments when you are looking for a light yet engaging romantic story.

We are back in Rough and Ready with two older main characters looking for a baby...or love. Connor and Victoria worked well together. If you like small towns, MCs in their 40s, found family, grumpy sunshine, banter, tension, chemistry, a psychic giving the go ahead for the relationship, a protective MMC, and the best friend squads around....then this read is for you.

There were a few things that irked me personally, but I will be honest....I do not think it would bother anyone else.

🫣 Lines:
I could always buy more clothes. Great sex wasn't as easy to come by.

"Why do you have all those paperbacks over there?" "To Throw at people." At her surprised look, I arch my brow. "Why do you think a person would have books?" 🤣

He strode in like a sexy Rambo, his gaze lazer focused.

"Are you going to stand there and brood?" Frowning, I focused on her. "Yeah, I am."

"You were right," I said when she came out of her closet. "Of course I was," she replied automatically. She set the small bag she was carrying on the floor. "About what?"

I'm a guy. We don't feel, and even if we did, we don't talk about it.

"The only thing a person has that matters is character." And love, Rizzo would say. "The rest of it can be changed."

Did that mean he had to think about it? Or was the answer going to be really good and, perhaps, involve nudity? Or a happily ever after? A girl could hope.

My Very Wicked Hero is addictive, unputdownable, masterpiece and Kate Perry at its finest, this is alove story engineered with such plot control that there is no room for detachment, not even between lines! The plot is reckless, entertaining and a little out of control in very wicked construction, a woman in her forties, tired of waiting and compromise, decides she wants a kid and pursues it with clear eyes and no apologies!!! Rough and Ready is lovely, a little town packed with personality and biting cleverness, the setting delivers spice and humor, but there's a pervasive question about whether this deal will stay clean! That pressure never lets up, it's addictive, entertaining, and utterly astonishing in the amount of time it just captivates you!
.
Victoria is a remarkable heroine because she is courageous, witty, and emotionally honest, her desire for a child is pure and anchored, and her internal logic makes everything she does make logical, even if it is potentially dangerous, she sees life through a cinematic lens, which grants her viewpoint an enchanting, somewhat unorthodox rhythm. Connor is equally eye-catching, tattooed, controlled, and very human beneath the muscle and darkness, his accomplishments as a Marine and MMA fighter imparts credibility, his handling of loss, loyalty, and desire is nuanced! Together, they feel unavoidable but not uncomplicated, I just love how visceral and electrifying their relationship was, I LOVED them so much!
.
The chemistry between them is compelling and I was in LOVE with their banter, and their mind-blowing dialogues, Goooosh the electricity between them was catching me on fire!!! Every associated space feels explosive, almost proprioceptive in terms of their awareness of one another! The baby's contract establishes limits that BEG to be broken, and witnessing those boundaries crumble is half the thrilling experience! The romance establishes a fragile feat between fire and tenderness, never veering into fluff, also the banter is swoon-worthy, the physical scenes are powerful, and the emotional beats will pound your heart!
.
The secondary characters and found-family energy brought such humanity and impetus to the plot, I loved so many of them that I wanted more progress from their personality! The friend groups create guides, supporting the idea that starting over doesn't entail going it alone, the pacing remains controlled, even though the ending comes sooner than expected and may leave you needing one more breath before the curtain falls! However, everything that happens is refreshing, original, humorous, and emotionally therapeutic, this is a romantic comedy that knows what it's doing with such delicious prose that will devour every fiber of your heart and wreck all of your neurons of your brain! My Very Wicked Hero is enchanting, wicked, and thoroughly hilarious, if you want a romance that is sophisticated, spicy, and tough to put down, this one is worth your time!
.
Four days after a miscarriage, I began
My Very Wicked Hero by Kate Perry, and it met me in a way no other book could have, it settled into the deepest fibers of my heart, of all the books I have read, this stands among the most extraordinary emotional of my life, and if you choose only one book to read this year, I truly and wholeheartedly recommend this unforgettable masterpiece!!!

Proof that tattooed men are a biological necessity.

4.75 ⭐️ | 3.75 🌶️

Kate Perry does it again. My Very Wicked Hero, book six in the Rough and Ready series, is the kind of romcom that makes you laugh out loud, clutch your chest a little and then immediately text your book bestie: read this now!

I was lucky enough to get an e-ARC (thank you, Grey’s Promotions!) and as someone who already devoured book five, I went in confident. What I didn’t expect was to fall this hard.

Victoria is a 44-year-old former Hollywood film producer turned small-town video store and movie theater owner, and she is everything I love in a heroine: smart, spunky, vulnerable, funny, and painfully human. Her longing for a child isn’t treated like a shallow plot device: it’s layered with her past, her complicated relationship with love and her very real fear of repeating the emotional neglect she grew up with. Her “ticking biological clock” (aka her hilariously unhinged internal monologue) is both comedic gold and quietly heartbreaking.

Enter Conor. Retired MMA fighter. Ex-Marine. Tattooed. Protective. Soft where it counts. This man is built like a weapon and feels like a poem. He’s new to civilian life, carrying grief, survivor’s guilt, and a letter from his fallen best friend that reframes everything he thought he wanted. He’s also been quietly, devastatingly gone for Victoria for a long time. Watching him step into his feelings, awkwardly, earnestly, fiercely, did things to me.

Their relationship grows from friendship to something deeper in a way that feels natural, tender and earned. Both of them are emotionally scarred by their parents, both afraid to hope too much, and both quietly desperate to build something better than what they were given.

And the chemistry? Good Lord 🧎🏼‍♀️🥵.

It’s the kind that hums under every conversation, every glance, every accidental brush of skin. When it finally ignites, it’s spicy yes, but more than that, it’s intimate. Trust-filled. Emotional. The kind that makes you believe in “right person, wrong timing… until now.”

Add in the Rough and Ready girl squad (forever iconic), found family vibes, laugh-out-loud banter and that cozy small-town atmosphere Kate Perry does so well, and you’ve got a romance that hits on every level: heart, heat, and healing.

My only complaint? I wanted an epilogue so badly I nearly tried to manifest one through sheer willpower.

My Very Wicked Hero is funny, sexy, warm, and quietly profound: a story about second chances, chosen family, and the terrifying bravery it takes to want more. Congratulations to Kate Perry on another knockout release (January 17th can’t come fast enough). This one’s going to be a hit.

My Very Wicked Hero🦸🏻
Firstly,I want to thank LoveNotes PR & Kate Perry, for trusting me with this ARC!💙

Victoria wants to have a baby,so mission find a baby-daddy is ON.
&it actually succeeded, but what happens when true feelings blossom, and maybe co-parenting is not enough for both of them ?

I have never EVER read a book with a plot similar to this, and oh boy.Perry NAILED IT.
We follow Victoria,a woman who has truly LIVED,but she felt something missing from her life.A baby
So,she is in a mission told find the perfect dad for her child, with fate bringing him right into her doorstep.
Connor,is the so called dad and Oh.My.God.
When I say this man worships V from the moment that he laid his eyes on her I MEAN IT.
As you understood, they will get tangled in a passionate, insta romance that will leave them unable to be without each other.
However, this story is not only sunshine and rainbows,it discusses a hard but true theme, that many women will have to face in this life, especially nowadays with how life is formed.
I really appreciated seeing Victoria's story and perspective,& I am 100% sure she got to have her miracle after the last page was over!
Yet,the only thing that made me not to give that 5 star rating ,was the ending.Do not get me wrong,it was good, but it was so,so sudden.Like,I was not expecting it to end right here, because I was feeling the story flowing not ending at this point 🤷🏻‍♀️
Long story short,be alert for the ending scene, but the book is totally worth to be read!

Book six in the Rough and Ready series pairs former Marine and retired MMA fighter Connor with Victoria, the owner of the local video shop. What begins as Victoria’s practical search for a potential baby daddy soon evolves into something far deeper when a snowstorm traps her and Connor together for several days, giving them the chance to discover just how compatible they truly are.

An entertaining small-town romcom, My Very Wicked Hero for me stood out by featuring a more mature hero and heroine, with both Connor and Victoria in their mid-forties and beginning to realise there was more to life than simply running their respective businesses. Victoria had already reinvented herself after a medical misdiagnosis prompted her to walk away from her Hollywood career and settle in Rough and Ready. Now, with her biological clock ticking ever louder, she’s determined to find someone willing to help her start a family. Connor, meanwhile, shaken by the death of a former army buddy, received an unexpected letter from beyond the grave that forced him to look at his life and realise everything he’s been missing out on.

Connor and Victoria’s story is enriched by a cast of quirky, well-meaning secondary characters, particularly a psychic who happened to be married to the town’s police chief all of whom were ready to offer up plenty of advice and support. The romance itself is largely lighthearted and engaging, and while Connor and Victoria do find their way to their happily ever after, their particular story does feel slightly unfinished. That said, as part of a long-running series, it's possible that it will continue to unfold in the background of any future books.

Connor and Victoria’s love story completely stole my heart. This romance does not follow the traditional timeline of love → marriage → kids, and that’s exactly what made it feel so real, emotional, and incredibly swoony. Their connection proves that love doesn’t have to look a certain way to be deep and meaningful.
Victoria is a 44-year-old Oscar-winning film producer who walked away from Hollywood after a false health scare. Now she knows exactly what she wants, a baby and she also knows she’s deeply attracted to Connor. Her bold decision to proposition him sets this story apart in the best way.

Connor, an ex-military man and retired MMA fighter turned small-town gym owner, is everything I love in a hero. He’s alpha, protective, emotionally grounded, and quietly aching after a recent loss. The timing was never right for him to ask Victoria out… until fate (and her proposition) changes everything.

What starts as a mutual agreement quickly turns into something neither of them expected: real, powerful love. Watching these two fall for each other, hard and fast was beautiful. Their souls naturally meshed, and the emotional depth of their relationship had me fully invested. The question becomes: can they admit what they feel and choose to stay together?

I absolutely loved Connor’s devotion and how fiercely he cared for Victoria. This story was mature, heartfelt, sexy, and deeply romantic—proof that love can find you exactly when and how you need it most.

A charming, sexy, riot to read! It’s wicked hot, highly endearing and entertaining, and between the laughs Victoria’s storyboarding brings and the heart Connor’s letter from his best friend adds, it’s just a firing on all cylinders delight of a romance.
Love me a woman who knows what she wants, and Victoria is exactly that, storyboard and all, as she sets out to convince Connor that they should make a baby together. For her it’s not about finding her happily ever after it’s about having a child that knows they’re wanted and loved and she plans to a T exactly what that could look like, no feelings for the dad involved. For Connor, he’s got a letter burning a hole in his pocket that’s making him rethink his life and a woman he’s insanely attracted to propositioning him to make a baby, a family, and he fires back with a few stipulations of his own to this baby making plan that lead straight to falling fast, and it is over the top adorable as Victoria realizes she likes him way more than she thought she would and might want it all and Connor sees for the first time everything his friend meant about how important all the little things, like a love of movies and happy endings, would become when he found his someone. A dynamite love story that never takes itself too seriously but never dismisses the big feelings, shies away from the sad, or discounts how much love truly matters.

I had never read a book by Kate Perry, so I would like to thank the author and Grey's Promotions for the e-ARC. I really enjoyed this book, it was a very relaxed, cute and simple read.

Sometimes, you need to read about wholesome and well-meaning characters, it somehow is a balm for tired readers. This book was like a hot chocolate, because while it is not the most challenging text, it lets you enjoy each character, their dynamic and a cute small town with great people.

There were funny parts, a little bit of face-palming about the miscommunications, and a lot of heartwarming moments about friendship, love at a later age and passion for their jobs.

The FMC is so interesting and unapologetically obsessed with movies, it is awesome how she always seems to look at every situation as a scene in a film. While the MMC is practical, but deep down is really sentimental and a bit supersticious. I particularly love how big of a part the support of friends plays in each of the MCs lives.

Would totally read Alex's story and go back to this small town in California. Really recommend this book to lovers of the tropes. Thanks again to Grey's Promotions for the e-ARC because it was just so enjoyable.

Victoria is at a point in her life when she would like to have a baby and wants to find someone to have the baby with now that she is settled in her new town. However she wants that person to also be in the baby’s life as well. She’s crossed paths with Connor on several occasions and finds herself very attracted to him. Connor also remembers his interactions with Victoria and is very interested. After he receives a letter from a friend encouraging him to live his life and go find love he decides to take a chance and ask Victoria out on a date, but little does he know she wants to talk to him about having a baby with her! Despite the reason for starting the relationship, the sparks fly and there are plenty of steamy times that prove this isn’t just about the baby and they have a true connection. Can the connection survive if a baby isn’t in the cards for them?

Thank you to Kate Perry and Grey's promo for the advanced reader copy of this book.

I love this Rough and Ready series - and this was a fantastic story. Victoria and Conner were such a sweet and endearing couple. Victoria is a famous screenplay director who retired and runs a video store and a movie theater. She desperately wants a baby and decides that Conner might fit the bill. She storyboards their relationship before it happens. Conner is a former Marine and MMA fighter - who is a loner but searching for love b/c his best friend told him to in his final letter to him. After a snowy weekend together - the love is there - but what happens when there are issues? I loved the grand gesture Conner puts together - this truly was a beautiful HEA. Love anything Kate Perry writes and this was no exception!

Thank you to Kate Perry and Grey’s Promotions for the early copy! This was only a 3 star read for me, meaning it was ok but could have been better. The whole premise of the book was that Victoria wanted to have a baby and she wants Connor to be her baby daddy. Unfortunately, the entire book is spent watching Victoria and Connor getting to know each other and deciding if they’re going to have a baby together, but the ending felt very abrupt and the storyline is never concluded. It was a disappointing end, but I’m hoping there’s more resolution to this storyline in the next book. The Girl Gang is still funny and laughed at the conversations between Victoria & her ovaries and Rizzo’s letter.

I still like the Rough and Ready series and can’t wait for Alex and Hunter’s book! I’m dying to know the backstory there and I’m sure it will be extra spicy because it’s Alex.

This is the 6th book in this impressive series, and this is Connor and Victoria’s story.
Victoria is fiercely independent, and she wants a fresh start in a new town, new job, and a new bucket list. Connor is a tattooed, protective, and retired MMA fighter. Victoria longs for a baby, and after a hot night with Connor, she finds out he wants the same, and they agree to co-parent, with no complications, and no emotions.
This is a well written easy to read story, which is revealed in dual POV’s, with found family, friendships, emotions, engaging and realistic characters, friends / lovers, forced proximity, humour, soulmates, palpable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, and unpredictable, small-town romance.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

I absolutely loved Connor and Victoria. Victoria knows exactly what she wants—a baby—and she knows exactly who she wants as the father: ex-military, UFC champ Connor. Now she just has to convince him.

Connor has always noticed Victoria, but after losing his brother-in-arms, he left town to grieve. When he returns—with a final letter from his friend pushing him to really live again—he’s ready to open his heart, and the woman he wants is Victoria. So when she asks him to be her baby daddy, he’s all in… but he wants more than just a co-parenting deal. Now he has to convince her that they could have something real.

These two are smoking hot together. I loved how protective Connor was and how much he adored all of Victoria’s quirks—he truly saw her, and that was incredibly sexy.

Yay for these two! I’m loving the Rough and Ready series and can’t wait to read Hunter and Alex’s story next.

Her #1 Pick!

"My Very Wicked Hero" is the sixth book in the Rough and Ready series. As a former movie director, Victoria is ready to have a baby. She sets out to find a baby daddy, approaching it like a film project with vision boards and everything. The leading man she hopes will want to have a baby with her is Connor, a former MMA fighter. Their chemistry is completely fiery and heartfelt, and the flirty banter, along with Connor’s protective side, is swoon-worthy.

I can’t get enough of this series! Each book highlights different couples, but all the fantastic characters are connected in this beautifully woven world. Set in a small town, the friendships are heartwarming and supportive, making it impossible to put the book down! I’m super excited for the last book in the series!

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

My Very Wicked Hero is Connor and Victoria’s friends to lovers, small town romance. It’s book six in the Rough and Ready Series and it didn’t take me long to become invested in the characters and their journey.
Victoria is the owner of the local theatre and video store but her life will not be complete until she has the baby she longs for…….
So could her move to Rough and Ready give her what she dreams off.
Will the tattooed, MMA fighter be the man to give her a baby………
I love this small town and its residents and I think this a great addition to the series. I fell hard and fast for Connor and I adored Victoria but it was watching these two find love when they least expected it that stole my heart. This is a beautifully written love story with wonderful characters.

Get ready to fall in love with Connor and his leading lady, Victoria, in My Very Wicked Hero by Kate Perry. Victoria is the owner of the town's video store and refurbished theater. When Victoria decides she wants to have a baby, who better to choose than Connor, the strong silent tattooed man who started a successful gym after retiring as a MMA fighter. Victoria is the owner of the video store, and the refurbished theater, who came to Rough and Ready after a false medical scare.

You can either start here with book 6, or go back and read the series from the book 1, but you're sure to fall in love with Rough and Ready. It's the small town where the women are accomplished in their own right, the men are smart enough to fall in love with them, and they find the loyal friends they can always count on.

I want to thank Kate Perry and Grey’s Promotions for the Advance Reader copy. I promise that this review is my own honest thoughts. This book is only getting three stars from me. For me, this means the book was good but could have been better.

This story is about Victoria, who wants to have a baby and have it with Connor. About 80% of this book is about Victoria and Connor getting to know each other and seeing if they’re “compatible” to have a baby together. Overall, the story was good, but to me it was just a little slow. I was expecting more to happen, and a little bit more in the ending. I was not satisfied with how this story ended.

This is Book 6 in the Rough and Ready Series by this author, and can be read as a standalone. It is a heartfelt romance between Victoria and Connor. These two flawed but likeable souls and the unique plot make for an enjoyable read. What starts out as a deal to raise a family together turns into something more. It is a captivating love story with drama and steam, sexual tension and chemistry, humor and charm, and twists and turns, plus appealing secondary characters. Entertaining.

I was lucky enough to receive this as an arc. It did not disappoint.

Victoria, a celebrity settles in a small town, meets Connor who she is extremely attracted to. Their chemistry, off the charts attraction is undeniable. The wants, plans on the future both are the same paths each seeks. They fell into another, planning their lives but not without some hiccups and funny banter.

This is well written and the spice, and their vibe is on point. Never have I experienced Kate Perry, a book of hers that is. But definitely adding her to my must read list. A complete page turner.

I loved returned to Rough & Ready for Book 6 in this small town romance. Connor and Victoria’s story was so adorable. In her 40s Victoria and her ever present ovaries are screaming at her to get on with having a baby. Who better than ex MMA fighter Connor? As an ex-Hollywood filmmaker Victoria decides to convince Connor to have a baby with her and what better way than to create a storyboard complete with kissing scenes, date ideas, and a budget? This book feels like a block buster hit with plenty of feel good moments and male possessiveness but in a way that screams green flag

This was my first experience with Kate Perry’s work and I am so happy I got to experience her writing! I loved Victoria and Connor’s chemistry and story arc. They both had great growth together and in their respective roles. The friend group was hilarious and really added to the whole story. I will be going back to read the rest of the series and I will be impatiently waiting for Alex’s story next!! I definitely recommend reading this book for a fun read that’ll put a smile on your face and make you laugh while rooting on the couple.

I liked Victoria and Connor's story. That their relationship/romance blossoms from a wish they share and that, made them, I thought very easy to relate to and to feel a strong connection with. This story had a realness to it that really captured my attention as it latched onto my heart. It is poignant, it's sweet, it's emotional, it's swoony and it is deeply moving. The ending though left me feeling a bit unsatisfied and that cost this book a star.

I have been so excited for this story. Victoria and Connor each have their own reasons for wanting children, but what they really want is someone to love. Victoria doesn't believe that she can have romantic love, but she can find a nice man to give her a baby. Connor has gotten used to being a lone wolf, but the death of a close friend has him rethinking that. They can't help falling in love, but that may not be enough to last. I really loved these two together. Connor is absolutely swoony -- just the right balance of protective and thoughtful. I had a hard time putting this book down.

This was such a good, enjoyable read. On paper Connor and Victoria were very different but the chemistry between them was palpable! I loved the evolution of their relationship-from a convenience to love, but my heart was breaking at the bad news and the fall out of that. Can't wait to see them pop up in further books set in Rough and Ready.
