Summer before senior year is heating up for Laur Bellinger and Lucas Donato—but it’s not just because of the sun.A beach trip with friends turns from stolen kisses and beach bars to sizzling drama threatening to shatter their tight-knit group. Laur's already drowning in responsibility as the new lead of the Wyverns' PR and Marketing Program.
Pressure weighs heavy on Lucas too. As a senior and captain, he's got a team looking to him for leadership and helping to select new alternate captains. The last thing he needs is anyone stirring up trouble on or off the ice.
Freshman Ryder King isn’t the only new person on campus. A ghost from Lucas' past rolls into town just as the new season kicks off. Everything Laur and Lucas have built together starts to crumble.
Can Laur prove she's ready for the big leagues without losing herself in the process?
Will Lucas secure the team’s future without sacrificing his friendships?
When secrets, especially those from the past start unwinding, will their love survive the fallout?
A.C. Wonderland has always loved telling stories for as long as she can remember. When she was eight, she wrote and drew an entire twenty-page book for school… even though the assignment was to write one page.
The reality is life isn’t always easy. Sometimes you need an escape from everyday life. A.C. thrives on writing novels that let a reader get lost in a whirlwind romance.
A.C never thought she would be an author. But, in July 2024, her first book came pouring out of her. She created a thirty six chapter outline and wrote the first three chapters of One Shot, her debut novel, in less than two hours. It was evident that she had a story that was begging to be shared.
You only have one life to live—A.C is taking her “one shot” to pursue her dreams of becoming an author.
When she’s not writing, A.C. loves traveling the country, frequenting country music concerts, and, of course, going to hockey games. She lives in Nashville with her dog, Guinness, but is originally from the suburbs of Chicago.
So this second book picks up where the first one stopped. Lauren and Lucas are still the main characters, but we get a little hussle in the side characters. The prologue had me at the edge of my seat. But than the first half was all about the summer break for this college kids. It was fun but I am almost 40 so identifying with them was a little hard. I think the younger readers will love that part more.
But than the second part with a twist and a turn starts and you get anxiety by reading it because you want to know why, how and who. So that grabbed me right back in the story. The book ends on a cliffhanger so I hope the next one is out soon, cause I have to know what happens!!

4 ⭐️ 2 🌶️ ARC review: Wow, I loved Summer Shot even more than One Shot (first book in the series). Summer Shot jumps right back into Lucas and Lauren’s story. I loved to see what the whole Wyvern crew got up to over the summer. I also love the addition of Blaine Mitchell’s POV. I cannot wait to read Best Shot…I need more Lauren and Lucas!
This review is based on an ARC I received — and let me tell you, I skated through Summer Shot in just two days because I couldn’t put it down.
Tonight, I came home feeling a little low from the day, opened the book, and took a page straight from Lucas: breathe in… breathe out… But the second his ex showed up? GIRL. I was fuming. Breathing? Overrated. Rage-reading? Activated.
I kept watching that completion counter tick higher and higher, bracing myself because I knew a cliffhanger was coming. And yep, it left me dangling by my fingertips, screaming “WHY?!” at my Kindle. Loved every second of the emotional chaos.
The added POV from Blaine was such a great touch — it tied everything together and made so much sense by the end. Now I’m even more desperate for Best Shot.
I am so incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have received an advanced copy of Summer Shot from the author, and Hambright PR! 🫶
“Love doesn’t get easier when the past refuses to stay buried.”
Did Summer Shot finish me or did I finish it? 😱🤯🙊😮 That cliffhanger had me screaming and I need book three in my hands right now. It’s rare when I say that a sequel is better than the original but I loved this one even more than the first! 🥹🫶
Summer Shot starts right where One Shot left off and I loved that because it puts the reader right into all of the action and drama immediately! 😍 There are so many secrets in this one and that had me hooked! 🫶 I love all of the Lauren and Lucas moments! 🥹❤️ They truly are the cutest! 🥰 I thought it was wonderful how this story dives into the stress and pressure that Lucas is going through being the captain for the hockey team! 🏒🥅 It also is amazing how this book shows Blaine in an entirely new light and it was incredible to see because he truly is such a wonderful guy! 🫶 Libby on the other hand is someone who is so mysterious and I am really curious to continue to learn more about her and figure out why she is the way that she is in book 3. Raven is another mystery too and I have so many questions when it comes to her but it had me turning the pages so fast! 📖
If you love romance books, hockey, slow burn, golden retriever MMC, lots of secrets, mental health representation, and a book you can’t put down then this is the one for you! 🫶

My review: Did I finished this book in less than a day?? Yes, yes I did!!
The ending had me screaming.
This is the second book in the Wyverns Hockey series!
I liked seeing Lucas as captain trying to be a good example for the team, and how Laur focused on her work to do her best. The times they spent together were so cute & the spicy scenes were 🫠🥵🔥
It was the perfect book to end the summer with full of drama that I can’t wait to continue in the next book.
The ending left me screaming, this book was super easy to read and very short.
I can’t wait to find out what’s going to happen with all the characters.
Thank you @acwonderlandwrites for letting me be part of this amazing arc team:)
I knew from the very first page that Summer Shot would hit me right in the heart, just like One Shot did. A.C. Wonderland really knows how to write characters that make you feel everything. Half the time, I was holding my breath, waiting for the next wave of drama, secrets, and emotions to crash over me. And when they did? They completely broke me in the best possible way.
The ending had me spiraling, truly, I’m not sure I’ve recovered yet 😩. That cliffhanger felt like being tossed into a black hole with no way out, and now I’m desperate for the next book. I need answers, closure, and maybe just a tiny bit of peace for these characters.
Like I said in my review of One Shot, I absolutely love this friend group and the way they continue to grow. Laur and Lucas have my whole heart , they’re messy, real, and beautifully human. I just hope they find a way to follow their hearts and stick together through whatever comes next. 💕
Book 2 in the wyverns hockey series. I’m SO happy this book started right where the first one left off. I love love love Lucas and Laur, so I enjoyed reading more about them. The prologue of this book WRAPPED me in hard. I truly enjoyed getting to understand Blaine Mitchell on a deeper level —— and RAVEN being added to the mix (Lucas’s ex girlfriend). It was great being able to see the side characters develop from the first book.
THE SPICE. THE SUSPENSE. IM INVESTED.
I won’t say I’m mad about the ending but I need book 3 like yesterday because that cliffhanger?!??? 😩 the suspense I neeeed to know right now. All the secrets that came out at the end and there is still more to unfold !!!
A continuation from One Shot (Book 1 of the Wyverns Hockey Romance series), Lauren and Lucas are back and stronger than ever, until someone from the past shows up that could shake their strong foundation. The college attitudes and activities were front and center, making me reminiscent of some of the most fun years of my life! Most of the book took place during the summer off season, the introspective of the stress that the upcoming season has in the characters was a welcomed addition to the plot. I enjoyed that new characters and a point-of-view were introduced, ending on a cliffhanger of sorts and setting up an intriguing base for the next book in the series. Thanks to the author and Love&LattesPR for the eARC.
A fantastic sequel to One Shot, it was exciting to see what Laur and Lucas are up to. Of course life has so many things to balance besides fun with friends and romance - they now have job responsibilities and sports leadership to worry about. There was some juicy drama in this book and I felt so nervous as Laur and Lucas seem to fall apart. With a heavy theme of secrets from the past coming back to haunt you, I was on the edge of my seat. This book was an enjoyable read with another easy to follow plot and characters that are very relatable in so many ways.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
1.75☆ this book felt so unnecessary. there was only one thing that felt important and that was at the very end. i definitely think this book could’ve been scrapped and instead just jumped into book 3. yes, it was a good introduction to new characters and a great way to learn more about past characters, but i didn’t feel as though this book did anything to the story.
Thank you to the author for an early copy! This story picks up at the end of book one. The characters were interesting, but literally nothing happened until literally the last two chapters. I think this could have been a good book if it took out some of the unnecessary scenes and continued past the cliffhanger, but I literally kept asking myself when something would happen until page 200.
Lowkey, there was really good drama. I’m mad that it ended right when it got really good but I’d say that’s a lasting enough impression for me to have to read the next book. Not too many hockey references I didn’t slowly pick up on this time so that was nice too.
✨I’m very much enjoying this series! Continuing Laur’s and Lucas journey is everything I hoped it would be. The drama, the tension, and that ending! 🤯 Can I have book 3 now?!?! I can’t wait to find out how everything begins to unfold with Laur, Lucas and all of their friends!✨
No joke when I tell you I read this entire book during my daughters dance class. Unputdownable and amazing! Idk if I liked it QUITE as much as the first book but it was still 4.5/5 star read!!!!
“It’s our last shot at summer before being in the real world—it’s our summer shot.”
Literally picking up where the first book left off, I’m still in shock. The ending also makes me still in shock. I’m ready for the third book to come out already! I need to know the things.
I will say the whole group going on a beach trip was amazing. The cooking competition was my favorite part.
I did love getting to see Lauren and Lucas again and how in tune they are with each other. I loved getting to know Blaine more. And also, what is up with Libby and Tyler. I need to know all the things!

Call me happily surprised! I honestly thought Summer Shot would be an interconnected standalone from One Shot, with a new couple and it was not! Well... okay yes and no LOL. Should you read book one, One Shot first? YES. Summer Shot picks up during the summer after the end of book 1. Our FMC and MMC are primarily still Laur and Lucas and how they're navigating team dynamics heading into Senior year. It was awesome that they were still the primary focus! However...
There is a new POV this time! I won't spoil who it is, but while I was surprised, I really enjoyed it. I liked seeing how this group of friends are navigating changes. Laur and Libby are interviewing candidates to join the PR team. Lucas is having to nominate alternative captains for the Wyverns, and everyone seems to be on edge this summer.
We lost some familiar faces to graduation, but I hope we see them again. They have stories I feel that aren't resolved yet. We met some new faces that I believe will bring some interesting dynamics to the teams, and some "old" are acting out of normal. This book was a trip and I need book 3 now!
Oh My God !!! I want to throw the kindle because ughhhh !! DONT LEAVE ME HANGING 😂😂😂 I was so hooked I didn’t even realize I finished the book til I turned the page to the acknowledgments 😂😂
This SERIES is EPIC !! It picked up right where the 1st one left off, and gave us views into other friends and players… and I LOVED IT ! Blaine - I need more ! TYLER !! Boy you need a talkin too !!! Raven !!!! Ughh !!! Why !!! Libby — What r u up tooo ?! Ughh I cannot wait til the next book… I have questions - I need answers I want to dive even deeper !!!
“Summer Shot” follows the events of Book One “One Shot” (which doesn’t necessarily need to be read but would definitely fill some backstory in that would make it more enjoyable), we get the story from 3 POVs, the main couple; Laur/FMC and Lucas/MMC and hockey teammate Blaine. It’s senior year in college and Laur is the lead for the hockey teams PR and Marketing dept. she is tasked with filling roles from the graduated seniors and creating a rounded team to fill in gaps. All of that responsibility while maintaining her friendships (Libby, Bren, and others), her relationship with Lucas and enjoying what’s left of summer vacation before the season and school start back up. Lucas continues to keep balance in his focus on his future hockey career by keeping schedule, even in the summer, carving time for himself, his sport, and his girlfriend. In this book we are introduced to a new team mate, freshman Ryder King who is said to rival the skill of Nick Bellinger or Lucas Donato (what ?!) and we encounter pasts that will affect not only Lucas and Laur but the team.
There are a few things of concern in the story; If you read Book 1, One Shot, you met Blaine and Tyler already, this book has the characters with a complete turn around of personality and Tyler’s has no explanation (yet) as to why and this was confusing to me because I enjoyed his character being Laur’s friend and someone she could lean on, but not in this book. I also am unsure about Libby, whatever is going on with her needs explanation as well.
There are storylines intertwined that I would have liked more details on, but I have high hopes that the next book will tie all of it together. A.C. Wonderland has me a bit frustrated right now but in a good way. The story had me pulled in from the beginning and I read through the whole story in one night. Yes, I’m sorry to share that “Summer Shot” ends with a cliff hanger, but Book 3 should be out soon.
Disclaimer: I was an arc reader for this book, but all opinions stated are my own and not influenced by any other reader, publisher or author.
Conflicted… that is mostly what I am feeling right now when I think back on this book. I loved book 1 of this series and I was so excited to read book 2 because I wanted to see where it went. However, this book just fell a little flat for me. It felt like there was a storyline that was being forced. This book feels like a completely different tone than book 1 and feels disconnected from the storyline that I was expecting. This could totally be a me thing.
Tyler completely did a 180 in this book from book 1 with zero explanation. Blaine also did a 180 and again, no explanation for it. Liam is completely gone and is like being written out of the book/series?
Libby…. man, this girl is awful, I don’t remember disliking her so much in book 1 but I have really developed a distaste for her. Why would this be Lauren’s best friend? It does not seem like the type of person that someone like Laur would even associate with. This story used to be about Lucas and Laur but now it seems like it is about everyone except them?
This entire book felt like one entire cliffhanger, not just one at the end. I feel like there was no satisfaction, just constant mystery in all directions. Quite honestly, I am going to have a hard time keep up if they all close in future books.
So many outstanding questions:
Why does Tyler hate Blaine so much? What (or who) is (isn’t) Libby doing? Why did Tyler turn into such a horrible person? Why is Libby so terrible? Why does Raven change her name all the time? Who was the mystery guest at the beach house? Who is forking/egging their house? Why would Raven want to get close to Laur? Why would Raven tell Blaine her name is Renee? Why did Blaine have a miraculous change in personality? Why would Lucas lie about line dancing? How does Laur not know about Lucas’s ex and why it was so bad? When to Raven become a villain?

What a fun and flirty ride! From beach days and stolen kisses to locker-room tension and hidden pasts, Summer Shot blends sports romance and summer heat into a perfectly playful escape. The energy between Laur and Lucas is electric, and the supporting cast of the Wyverns team brings plenty of personality and heart. The author’s voice is sharp and full of charisma, and the setting somehow feels both carefree and meaningful — a win for the summer-love genre.
One quote that stuck out to me:
“I’ll take them off myself if you’re going to take your sweet time.”
That line perfectly captures the flirtatious banter and confidence that drive so much of their connection.
What worked really well:
The beach + hockey combo is unexpected and fun — the summer vibe meets athletic stakes in a fresh way. Laur is a strong, likable heroine balancing real-world pressures (PR duties, team dynamics) with her emotional journey. The chemistry sizzles without compromising character development; we get both playful moments and emotional depth. Some good side stories and team drama that raise the stakes and keep things from feeling flat. And a freaking cliff-hanger that left me with so many questions, I have to pick up the next one ASAP!
What kept me from giving it a full 5 stars:
While there’s good conflict, a few of the plot beats feel familiar to sports romance tropes (ghosts from the past, hidden secrets). There are moments where the pacing drifts a little—some scenes felt a touch over-extended when the tension built quickly.
A couple of supporting characters popped in and out so quickly I wanted more tie-ins. Overall though, this is a super enjoyable read for anyone who loves hockey, summer vibes, and smart romance with a bit of edge. If you’re looking for a book to light up your sunny afternoon with heart and heat, I’d absolutely recommend Summer Shot.
This was my first hockey romance and I enjoyed it! This is book 2 in the Wyverns Hockey series. I did not read book 1 first. The author did a great job of recapping at the beginning, as this book picks up right where the first book leaves off.
It is summer time and the college hockey team and their PR team (friends and girlfriends) go on a beach house vacation to relax before the next season. The hockey players are focusing on welcoming new hot shot, Ryder King, and wondering who will be the two new alternate captains for the season. The pressure is on captain Lucas Donato to make that big decision. The PR girls are busy reading through applications and scheduling interviews for the 5 open positions on their PR team. The pressure is on PR lead Laur Bellinger to make the final choices.
This story is told with multiple POV. Most of the book is told from the POV of Lucas and Laur. Their relationship carried over from the previous book and they are enjoying their time as a couple. There is an occasional POV from hockey player Blaine Mitchell. He received quite a bit of focus in this book and will likely play a big part in the upcoming book 3, Best Shot.
When the summer vacation comes to an end, the hockey players and PR girls return to campus to resume practices and complete the PR team interviews. We learn the results of both decisions and get a cliffhanger for the next book.
This was a fast read that kept me interested. There were several characters to keep track of and they were all up to something. I plan to read book 3 because I need resolution on a few things: What was up with Tyler? What was Libby hiding? Is Blaine turning over a new leaf? And what are Lucas and Laur going to do about the bombshell dropped at the end? I need answers!!
Until then, I am going back to catch up on book one…and looking up all the hockey romances to read next.
You know....I just did not know what to expect with Summer Shot. One Shot was so emotional and just broke my heart. This one....I didn't know where A.C. Wonderland would take us! Lauren and Lucas have just wrapped up their Junior year of college and are taking a trip to the beach with a bunch of hockey players and Lauren's girlfriends. We are introduced to Ryder King...a new hotshot freshman who is apparently a ladies man. We pick up with Blaine Mitchell who seems to have had a personality transplant and is now a nice guy. Tyler Barrett is angry without giving us an explanation. Libby has lost her mind and is super secretive about her extra curricular activities. It's like reading 3 books in one! And I am here for it!
Lauren and Lucas are dealing with stress from his hockey plans and team and her trying to create a PR team that will work well together. Together Lucas and Laur are perfect....they love each other. When they are together the rest of the world kind of diminishes, like it should when you're in love.
Blaine is trying to get his act together so he can hopefully be named Alternate Captain and look better to the coaches and any potential NHL teams. Blaine and Libby have some interesting conversations about fake dating. But the way he handles the new hotshot will shock you!
Tyler has a bug up his....well you know...and gives us no clues as to what it's about. I'm very frustrated and disappointed with him....especially the way he treats Blaine.
All that being said to say this: I read this book in a day. I'm now frustrated that I have to wait for the third book! Oh and I haven't even mentioned Raven!! I can tell I'm not going to like her though... Thanks A.C. Wonderland for the ARC!!! I'm a little in love! I'd give it 4 more stars if I could!
Thank you, A.C., for letting me join your ARC team for Summer Shot! A great follow up from book 1 in One Shot. I definitely finished it in one sitting and left me wanting to find out what happens next!
Summer Shot picks up right where One Shot leaves off and it’s a slower pace but right from the get to, A.C. leaves you wondering what’s happening as Laur and Lucas recount what’s happened in the last 2 months leading up to the start of the school year.
As summer’s about to come to an end, the group found time to head to the beach for a short weekend trip before senior year starts and with the new recruits changing dynamics to secret hook ups and drama that Laur and Lucas can handle before they can to keep the pressures from breaking what they built together.
The pace is a little slower because we not only have Lauren and Lucas’ POV, we also get Blaine’s POV too! As we’re following along the different perspectives, we also slowly piece together what’s happening that would cause such a panicked reaction from Lucas at the beginning of the book.
Can Lauren prove that she can lead Wyverns’ PR and Marketing Program by bringing on new personnel? Can Lucas lead the team to the Championships while the drama and his past comes sweeping in as senior year starts?
If you’re looking for a slow burn, college hockey romance with a golden retriever MMC and a wonderful group of friends —this book’s for you.

received as an arc, thank you again! i rate this book 3.5 stars but since i can’t do halves i just have it as 3.
i absolutely loved the first book in this series, but something was missing for me in this book. i felt as though there was a lot of filler information that we could have went without. the main plot twist/issue had too much time spent on it for the little impact we actually got. we didn’t really get to see laur and lucas’ relationship much either. i wish we saw more of that romance story. we got to see lot of development with the side characters and friendships, but i feel like there wasn’t much of the main couple. it almost made me forget who the book was about. i also got confused with we randomly started getting blaine’s pov. i found it a little out of place at first but made a bit more sense in the end.
the main plot issue gets mentioned at the beginning of the book and then you don’t really see the impact until the last like 3 chapters of the book. BUT it does leave a really good cliffhanger for the next book. i need to figure out what happens next. i also wish we could have found out more about tyler and his issues, i felt as though it was left unfinished in this book.
overall, i liked how this book ‘focused’ on the same couple as book one instead of completely shifting couple povs. i just wish we would have gotten more couple stuff rather than focusing so much on laur’s life. i can’t wait for book 3 to come out to finally get the drama that this book was leading up to.
Y’all, when I tell you my jaw is on the floor finishing this book...holy hell! I was hoping that there would be more of the ex storyline in the book and getting to see how that played out, but getting a bit of Blaine’s POV was a nice little change. This was a fun continuation from One Shot, and when I saw that Acknowledgements page, I literally said, “No fucking way!” because what?! I do hope that we see more growth out of Blaine and that Lucas and Lauren make it out of their senior year with their sanity intact. This was a quick read, just over two hundred pages, compared to book one. I would have liked it to be longer, but the way it ended now has me impatiently waiting for book 3. There was definitely a lot more anxiety built into this story for the MCs, especially now that the ex is back. I did absolutely adore our newbie Ryder. He’s a fun kid. I was sad to see Tyler go down this path of just being a complete dick, but it was nice to see a change of pace for Blaine. I hope to see Tyler get his act together in the future. Definitely reading this directly after book 1, I think, helped with the flow of their story for me, as it just kind of continued together. It did feel like the book itself went too fast, as we lost our seniors, only getting a goodbye from Bren, and suddenly this new cast of characters is brought in, and while we got to know Ryder with the beach trip, we didn’t really get to meet the new PR team, except Raven. As I mentioned before, I’m definitely interested in seeing where book 3 takes this story.
Ok, first let me say that I don’t want this review to be taken the wrong way… I enjoyed this read, I love this group of characters, and One Shot had me in a chokehold for so long… I LOVED it and I recommended it all the time! I was SO READY for this one and to see what happens with the unexpected incoming character entering the campus, however I felt a little disappointed because we didn’t get much of that plot and it felt a little all over the place unlike the first book. I finished the book and the resounding thought that I had is that it felt like a filler book and that I was a bit disappointed because it didn’t move their story along and give us what we were anticipating. I just feel like I didn’t really need/want to read a whole book about a beach trip before the school year starts, with the last couple of chapters being about what I thought would be the main storyline that we wanted to get our hands on. The summer beach trip plot definitely could have been a 1.5/novella type thing if that was going to be the main storyline/focus and then just save the rest of the anticipated main storyline for book 2.
I don’t really know if there was a specific thing that made this book feel disconnected from the first one, I think it was a mix of things. If I had to think on it a few things that come to mind are that we didn’t get to see any character development with anyone and it kept jumping to different characters: Tyler being a little unhinged and having a problem with literally everyone at times, Laur with decisions on who to build her team with, Brea leaving, Ryker being new to the team and important to impress and a ladies man, etc… but we didn’t get to really feel anything for/with them in this book because we didn’t really get to go through anything with anyone. It didn’t really dive into anything on a remotely deeper level… one second the girls are talking about media team candidates (which was almost a main focus throughout the whole book), the guys hit the gym or play a random game of something, they have a cooking competition, etc… there were just a couple of scenes with Lucas and Laur in the whole book and even those, it was making sexy time jokes and didn’t really get deeper than the desire to sleep with each other or whatever, not having time with each other (but being understanding), etc…
I can recognize that there were things hinted at that were going on under the surface and that this is opening the opportunity for future books to shift focus to the other characters, but I would have much rather had these little hints to these potential easter eggs (even as they were portrayed already), but either making this a summer novella or keeping the rest of the book about Lucas and Laur and even the main plot of impending potential conflict with the incoming character. We definitely got a cliffhanger, and maybe book 3 is going to give us the part of the story we can't wait to see play out… we will see.
This is book #2 in the series. This picks up where book #1 left off.
From the last day of classes through the summer Lauren (Laur) Bellinger and her hockey boyfriend Lucas Donato have become closer with each other. The Wyverns hockey team didn't win the final four hockey games, but, the team played the best they've ever played together.
The hockey team is looking forward to take a month off but not Lucas. He's always wanting to be on the ice, making sure he is the best. He wants to always improve his hockey game. He's not looking forward to taking a 'break' but he knows his body needs one.
With the marketing team / PA team member graduating Lauren needs to get some new applications and new members on the marketing team. Lauren and the team are taking resumes and sifting through those who would be good candidates to interview. Lauren and team think they have settled on the top ones they believe would be great hires / additions to the team.
The book goes until about the 1st week of school. Where we find out who the new members of the team are, and who the new hockey teammates are. Someone is egging and forking the house Lauren lives in. They aren't sure if it's because Lauren is dating Lucas, or if it was someone who wasn't selected for the new marketing team. Who would want to go after Lauren and the girls in the house?

This is the second book in a contemporary romance trilogy, and I was really excited to dive in after that cliffhanger ending in book one! It was so nice to return to this world and its characters — the found family dynamic continues being such a fun layer in the series, and the summer setting made for such a fun read.
One surprise I didn’t expect was getting a new POV from a character I hadn’t really liked before. I honestly thought I’d dread his chapters, but I ended up enjoying his perspective a lot more than I anticipated.
That said, I didn’t enjoy this one as much as I hoped, and it pains me to say that. I felt like not much really happened. The story didn’t move forward in a meaningful way, and it ended in almost the same place as book one. Because of that, it could've easily been an extended epilogue or a prologue in book three rather than a full sequel.
I also felt that Libby’s character changed quite abruptly — perhaps intentionally — but the shift felt a bit too sudden considering how little time passes between books.
Still, I did love the sweet moments between Laur and Lucas, and I’m very curious to see how everything wraps up in the final book. I’m definitely rooting for their happily ever after!
Thank you to Hambright PR for the eARC. All opinions are my own.
This second book in the Wyverns Hockey series picks up right where the first one left off, continuing Laur and Lucas’s story. I loved the premise and was immediately hooked by the prologue—it set up so much potential drama! But after that, the pacing slowed quite a bit. The first half focused heavily on summer break and side characters, which was fun at times but felt like filler, especially when I was craving more depth between Laur and Lucas. Their relationship is meant to be central, but it sometimes took a backseat to everything else.
That said, the second half really picked up! The twists had me anxious to know what was happening and why. Blaine’s POV felt random at first but tied in better toward the end, and while the main plot didn’t hit full stride until the last few chapters, the cliffhanger definitely left me wanting book three ASAP.
I do wish there had been more focus on the romance and a bit more insight into Tyler’s storyline—it felt unresolved. Still, I enjoyed watching Laur and Lucas grow as individuals, and Lucas trying to lead the team as captain was a nice touch. The book is a fast, spicy, and drama-filled read that younger readers will especially enjoy.
Thank you to the author and Lattes and Love PR for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Their chemistry was slow-burn but every scene together felt intense and soft at the same time. The beach setting made it even more dreamy with late-night talks, group chaos and the push-and-pull of emotions. The side characters brought extra spice and I liked how friendship played such a big part here. The ghost from Lucas’s past added the perfect amount of angst and made me flip pages faster. It was not just about romance but also about growth, responsibility and finding your own strength. Overall it gave me all the summer feels mixed with sports romance drama and I couldn’t put it down. Such a perfect sequel in the Wyverns series that makes me even more excited for what’s next. Thank you so much hambright for the free ARC!
