Grace thought she was trading her life to save her sister. Instead, she's trapped in the underworld - unseen by the living, hunted by the dead, and fading fast.
The only thing keeping her from vanishing into the river of souls is Hades himself, god of the dead, ancient and ruthless. He offers her a brutal deal - survive his wicked trials and she may return to the world above. But fail … and she is at his mercy forever.
The underworld is unforgiving. It's god even more so.
mercy of hades is a greek mythological fantasy retelling that crosses over with the real world. it’s on the shorter side of most retellings but it isn’t short of any details. millie’s writing is straight to the point whilst also providing all the details you need.
the fmc is based in derbyshire- a county within the east midlands. which is wild to read in such a retelling- but also refreshing. it adds more of a personal touch knowing that it is an area i know of. whilst also adding that extra bit of delusion in thinking that one day, that could be me🤭🤣.
grace, is your ordinary teacher, working hard and teaching on a day to day basis but also attending the hospital every evening to go and check in with her sister who is on life support. when grace has no other choice but to find other options to try and save her, hermes appears to deliver fleur to the underworld, but grace is not willing to give up just yet. she wants to pay a visit the lord of the underworld, where she comes face to face with hades and pleads he makes a deal with her in order to buy her and her sister more time🥺 proper tugs on the heart strings seeing how much grace loves & adores her sister!❤️🩹
hades doesn’t take it easy on grace as he isn’t a very forgiving and cannot stand the thought of whining humans being within his proximity, which leads to deadly trials. but grace completely takes hades by surprise… his character has plenty of whit & snarky comments which made me chuckle along the way! i love himmmm😏
i absolutely lovedddd reading this, especially as i loveeee all things greek myth!! this was so beautifully done.
Wow- I absolutely loved this! So much is explored in a short amount of pages and it has so many things that would appeal to a variety of readers. This wouldn't usually be something I'd pick up, but it did feel more like a romance which I love and was such an easy read. Millie's writing is insanely good and poetic which really made it a joy! Highly recommend 🫶🏻
Mercy of Hades is a Greek mythological retelling and one of my favourites I've read to date.
The one negative I have to give is why is this a novella?! I need more of Grace & Hades so bad!!! I binged these 88 pages so quickly & was left needing more. It brought me out of a reading slump & left me with a hangover instead!!!
Grace is a teacher whose life revolves around little kiddies during the day, then spending every evening by her sister Fleur's bedside, who is unfortunately on life support but isn't getting better.
Things change when Hermes comes to deliver Fleur to the Underworld. Grace decides in an instance that she can't allow that to happen & wants to make a deal with the devil himself, Hades. Seeing the love Grace has for her sister is so precious & heartwarming.
Grace gets to visit the main man & pleads for him to make a deal. Since he is the devil, he decides to make it near impossible challenges, thinking that Grace won't succeed. Oh, does she prove him wrong.
Seeing their relationship form & the appearance of Persephone was amazing. The character building & world building was incredible. I absolutely need more of them!!
I'll leave you with my favourite quote that you can drool over until this is released & available on KU on 7th October.
"The kiss was heat and ruin, surrender and defiance, it felt like falling and flying at the same time. She didn't know who moved first, who surrendered second. All she knew was that nothing about her world - above or below - would ever be the same again."
I had the chance to be an ARC reader for Mercy of Hades. I follow Millie for a while now and was intrigued by the idea. I flew through the pages. Though it is a short book, it is well written and I enjoyed her writing style. It is lovely and vivid. The MC‘s Grace and Hades are well thought through. And to be honest: We all live a grumpy/ misunderstood and sarcastic love interest. Towards the end I even teared up a little and I really liked the ending and the way she included the tragic love story of Hades and Persephone.🥹 At the beginning there was something about the setting and the connection to Greek Gods and Olympus my brain couldn’t comprehend and make it seem not logic, but Millie was kind enough to explain it again and then it clicked!😂 I definitely can recommend Mercy of Hades and it’s a great and short read for inbetween.
Late last night I started and finished this ARC til early hours of the morning!!🤭
I just couldn't put it down!
This is the first fantasy book that I've read in a while and I just loved it!
This was about the main character Grace trying to save her sister by going to the underworld, she thought she was trading her life to save her sister but instead she got trapped in the underworld and the only thing keeping her from fading fast and vanishing is Hades himself!
This book is 88 pages and is such a easy and quick read/novella, I enjoyed it so much and it really helped me also get out of my reading slump!
I just loved Hades and he definitely made me chuckle, overall I really enjoyed this story and I do love a novella
thank you to the author for letting me read this early 🩷
what an amazing whirlwind spicy romance !! i joined the ARC team for this book through a mutual (thank you Deej !) and WOW, i am so so happy i joined.
Grace is the ideal big sister: always going above and beyond, fiery, strong willed, and a badass. her love for Fleur is so beautiful (as an older sibling, i would do anything for my little sister), and she is also an amazing plus-sized FMC.
and Hades ?? a true shadow daddy. not only is he the definition of a fine business man, but he’s also modernized ? say LESS.
reading of Grace’s resilience through her trials and love for Hades was a whirlwind of emotions. i almost feel like there wasn’t enough to really sink my teeth into !! i would’ve loved if it was longer.
My first Greek Gods book and what a great place to start. I made sure to take my time reading (just getting over a reading slump) and wanted to be able to fully take in everything and enjoy it, which I thoroughly did! I loved how Grace didn’t take any crap from Hades and just followed her heart the whole time. With it being a shorter book (under 150pages) I was worried that there wasn’t going to be enough detail but I was wrong. It was sprinkled perfectly throughout it all without missing out key points. The POV in the epilogue was the perfect way to finish the book as well! ❤️🔥❤️🔥
Such a delightful little read! I absolutely loved the poetic feel to the writing and how well everything flowed. All in all a fun and flavoursome short read. Loved the representation the FMC portrays in the book, it’s refreshing to read about a character who isn’t just small and tiny.
The ONLY downside is how short it is!! I read this in one sitting, and I definitely felt like Hades’ character could have been fleshed out a little more to make his story more impactful at the end. Maybe 10/20 pages focusing more on his history, personality, deeper thoughts and feelings.
*Thank you to Millie for sending me your book! These are my own opinions*
This is my first mythological book so I wasn't sure what to expect but I'm surprised that I enjoyed it! It's a short book so I was able to read it in a day (which isn't a bad thing, as it shows I enjoyed it!) I liked the Greek Mythological crossed over into the 'real world' which was different.
I recommend this book! I'm looking forward to seeing what Millie comes out with next!
Firstly a hugeeee thank you to @444.ariesbaby_reads for introducing me to @millsandbooks, and thank you @millsandbooks for allowing me the privilege of reading this ARC of your upcoming book! 🥹
I really enjoyed this modern twist on Greek Gods & the Mortal realm- we all love a good bargain and set of trials amongst angsy gods and strong-willed humans 😏
I absolutely loved the love Grace has for her younger sister and the lengths she would go to save her- I felt it in my bones because I would do the same for mine 😭 Hade’s is exactly as I would imagine him to be also- absolutely spot on 🤤 I really enjoyed the twist in lore with Persephone as well, and with Megara, a very cleaver homage and hidden gem!
The layout of the human realm and the Gods worlds are seamlessly fused- really good world building for this 🤩
Overall, I really enjoyed this book- a short and easy read thats left me craving muuuuch more 😍 ps the alter scene left me feral- IYKYK 👀
