In COME LOOK WITH ME: EXPLORING LANDSCAPE ART WITH CHILDREN art educator Gladys S. Blizzard introduces boys and girls to 12 magnificent landscape paintings. Through these carefully selected works and a thought-provoking text, the author guides students toward an imaginative new way of looking at art.
This book is suited both for family reading and for sharing with a small group. Each full-color reproduction is accompanied by a brief biological sketch of the artist and a series of open-ended questions designed to make the most of a child's natural curiosity.
This is probably the one that is the most difficult. Some of the landscapes because of their original size are presented in a very small format for the book. It is hard to find the details. I think this will be one of the last books I will use. By that time they can choose the pictures they enjoy and will be able to explain why. The Mountains and Sea could spark a water color experiment. And Mr. Dinosaur lover will love the o'Keefe bone picture even though he will be disappointed that it is not a dinosaur bone only perspective. And I think we are going to have fun creating our own local rendition of New York Waterfront, only ours will be with paper parts.
Using the work of 12 painters, the author introduces the reader to the amazing art of these famed artists. The book is set up for children (and anyone!) with questions to inspire the child to think about the visuals they see.
The Come Look With me series by Gladys S Blizzard is an absolutely wonderful inspiration point for getting children to appreciate art and to think creatively. Each picture has on its facing page a selection of questions and starting points for talking to children about the meaning of the painting, how it makes them feel, and a host of other thought-provoking discussions. This year I wanted to really expand our library's art books, not just to inspire creativity, but also to stimulate their critical thinking and reflection. A marvelous series.
Twelve 20th century paintings. Individual painting show on full page with artist, title, date, media, size and gallery. Opposite page has questions to begin discussion and brief information on the artist and the painting. Artists: Bruegel, Inness, Bierstadt, vanGogh, Rousseau, Glackens, Escher, Davis, Hopper, O'Keefe, Frankenthaler, Estes.
There are 12 landscape paintings, each with some questions. Under the questions is a relevant bio of the painter. I liked answering the questions; they helped me focus on structural elements that I wouldn't otherwise have noticed. Nice introduction to landscape painting for adults even though it's aimed at children.
Another excellent book in the "Come Look With Me" series. I think landscape art is my current favorite (that's what hangs in my house for the most part!).
My favorite painting is featured on the front of the book
This just has some samples of famous landscape pieces and includes a little background on the artist and a few questions to analyze the art. Not for 4-6 year olds, but good for further exploration once a foundation is built. Definitely good for a landscape art theme.
Really nice way to look at art with children. I really appreciate the questions posed about each painting because I KNOW NOTHING about art! I think this will be a really nice series.
We used this book for my son's first grade Art class. He loved all the beautiful pieces of Art, and the landscapes chosen were a good representation of different styles of Art.
