Five years ago, Scarlett's life changed drastically. Manipulated into believing she was responsible for the death of her friend, four masked men swooped in to torment her, making her life hell. By the time she found out the truth it was too late; they had already turned her into someone as ruthless as them… though, someone much worse. The night they died tragically at her hands, a part of Scarlett died too—the good part. Now she's hurting in ways she doesn't understand. On top of that, she's confused, hiding dark and twisted thoughts that are far worse than the memories of the horrendous things they did to her. She spent years trying to find some sort of balance for her life while continuing working to rehabilitate society's most dangerous villains and meticulously plotting her revenge. Scarlett's finally ready to pick up where her masked men left off—determined to finish what they started. She soon realizes there's nobody left. So with no clear target, who is she after and… why? More importantly, who is going to help her? The nightmare in Salem is back, and this little sinner is hell bent on living up to her name. Just like five years ago, this Halloween will be one that no one ever fucking forgets. This is book 2 in the Nightmare in Salem duet. Book 1, Trick or the alternate ending must be read first in order to understand the events and characters in this book. THIS IS NOT A DARK ROMANCE. NOT DARK ROMANCE. IT'S AN EROTIC HORROR. Please read the content warnings carefully, and if there's something on there that irks you, do not attempt to read this. Your mental health always matters.
KM Rogness is an indie author known for writing dark, twisted, and smutty why choose romance novels. She doesn't shy away from addressing real issues and draws from personal experiences, with a focus on intense and emotional storytelling. Residing in North Carolina with her husband and three sons, she is expecting a daughter. Rogness is inspired by nighttime and rainy, stormy days. Her books are packed with intense themes and captivating male main characters, promising an enthralling reading experience.
Trick Or Treat: The Rebirth is brutal, unflinching, and emotionally feral. The tone is relentlessly dark and volatile, blending erotic horror with psychological collapse and rebirth. The pacing is intense and often overwhelming in a deliberate way — this book doesn’t let you breathe, mirroring Scarlett’s fractured mental state and escalating descent. It’s less about comfort and more about confrontation, rage, and transformation.
Vibes & Tropes
Tropes: Why Choose, masked men, stalking, feminine rage, mental health rep, age gap (10+ years), trauma bonding, enemies to twisted “lovers,” touch-them-and-die energy Vibes: Unhinged Halloween nightmare, wrathful and raw, erotic horror soaked in grief and obsession Genre: Erotic horror (NOT dark romance) POV / Structure: High-intensity continuation of a duet; emotionally nonlinear and chaos-driven
What Worked
Writing that leans unapologetically into darkness and psychological unraveling
Heavy, oppressive atmosphere that fully commits to the horror elements
Scarlett’s character arc — rage, grief, and loss curdling into something monstrous
Exploration of trauma, manipulation, and identity without softening the edges
The way desire, violence, and power blur together in unsettling ways
Standout Quotes
“Bones and flesh may weaken with time, but memories? Those will light the fucking fires of this darkened church.” “Everything you try to hide—your pain, your fears. But you don’t need to hide from me. I want you bare, in every sense of the word.”
Content & Tone Notes
This is an extreme erotic horror with intense themes including trauma, mental health struggles, violence, obsession, and morally dark choices. It is deliberately disturbing and confrontational. Please read content warnings carefully before starting.
Final Take
This book is for readers who want horror that cuts deep, embraces feminine rage, and refuses to be palatable. If you’re looking for romance, softness, or emotional safety, this is not it. But if you enjoy dark psychological horror with erotic elements, morally shattered characters, and a Halloween-soaked atmosphere that spirals instead of resolves neatly, Trick Or Treat: The Rebirth delivers an unforgettable, punishing experience.
From the first pages the story sets and puts you in chokehold and it doesn’t let go
The story itself has the smut I’ve been craving and missing and I finally got my fix again. But the revenge going on.. that’s my girl. I’m totally all for it. I’m down for everything she’s dishing out. And the why choose? Yup exactly because personally I’m a why choose girlie (unless it’s my woman then I only have eyes for her) but any other instance it’s why choose no questions asked.
Fast forward because you need to read if you want to know BUT… that ending. I went back a few times because I thought my lack of sleep had my mind playing tricks on me..
Nope it wasn’t.. umm ma’am I have questions and need answers because you can’t possibly be doing me like that?! But other than that
Add to your tbrs or get it because it’s worth it and KM never disappoints
If you are looking for a story that gives you a moment to breathe, look elsewhere.
From the very first page, this book is pure, unapologetic shot of adrenaline straight to the system. It doesn't just set the scene; it clamps down in a glorious, seductive chokehold and refuses to release its grip until the final, breathless word. I didn't read this book—I devoured it, completely and utterly, in a single, desperate sitting.
Holy shit that ending is less of a conclusion and more of a catastrophic, perfectly orchestrated explosion. It leaves you spinning, desperately demanding answers, and questioning everything you thought you knew. "Like what?! I need answers NOW."
If you crave a dark, relentless romance that will steal your sleep, your breath, and your peace, pick this up. But be warned: once you start, there is no stopping.
Thank you Kasey for allowing me to read and review 🖤🖤🖤
Another great read by KM. In this Scarlett comes back with a vengeance and need for revenge. With the guys gone she finds some new guys that she helps mold into her versions of the “old” guys. Each of the new ones are messed up in their own ways and fit right where she wants them too. With twists and turns every single time she turns around, somehow her plans come together just how she wants them to, with exception of her father.
5⭐️ book ! Trick or treat was my favorite book of all time , but the Rebirth has stepped past it ! Scarlett is truely a bad ass MFC ! The way she brings the guys together is awesome .
