I Didn’t Read This Book. I Survived It.

Let’s begin with the plot—a classic setup of poor girl meets rich CEO, but instead of evolving into something nuanced or intense, it devolves into a chaotic blend of Bengali serial logic meets Wattpad fever dream. Our heroine, Amara, is so poor she showers outside because her house doesn’t have a bathroom (yes, really), while Enzo is so rich he has the emotional depth of a well-funded surveillance drone. They meet at a masquerade party. He rescues her. They cuddle. She memorizes his green eyes like a spiritual awakening—only to never recognize them ever again throughout 400+ pages. This book is less "suspension of disbelief" and more "forcible removal of brain cells."

The atmosphere wants to be dark and seductive, but instead it feels like watching twilight re-enacted by toddlers holding Nerf guns. The tone fluctuates between unintentionally comedic and romantically concerning. Every potentially intense moment is shattered by a sudden convenience or a miraculous bathroom break. At one point, the villain leaves mid-kidnapping because he “feels sick,” giving the hero time to strike. That is not tension. That is IBS.

Amara: Now, let’s examine our leading lady—Amara. Supposedly "kind, independent, not a gold digger," yet she somehow manages to use everyone's money with Olympic finesse. She accepts her creepy boss’s apartment, salary, shopping sprees, chauffeur, and perfume budget yet still calls him “overbearing.” Ma’am. If you’re going to use him like an ATM, at least update your PIN code of morality. Not to mention, she also calls him her “brother figure” after admitting her romantic attraction. I have never wanted to call Child Protective Services on a fictional relationship before, but here we are.
Enzo: Enzo, on the other hand, is actually one of the better parts of this disaster, if only because he commits to his unhinged behavior with consistency. He stalks her online, hacks her phone, reads her private fantasies, designs his apartment based on her Pinterest board,(which I found real cute) installs cameras in her home, and yet somehow we are supposed to find this endearing. And I’ll be honest—I almost did when he bought her houseplants. The audacity of manipulation, softened by interior design skills. A layered king.
Riccardo: The villain, Riccardo, is less of an antagonist and more of a malfunctioning NPC. He kidnaps her, insults her, gets his manhood removed, and still continues to deliver monologues like a Shakespearean eunuch. Science may not know how his biology works, but this book didn’t ask science for permission anywhere else, so why start now?

The romance? Oh, it exists somewhere between obsession and HR violation. They have chemistry in the way gasoline has chemistry with fire. You know it’s going to burn everything down, but a small evil part of you still wants to watch. Unfortunately, instead of combusting in poetic tragedy, it just fizzles into inconsistency. Amara never once says “I love you,” and yet the book expects me to swoon at their devotion. If she was any more emotionally unavailable, she would legally be Airbnb.
Writing-wise, the prose is surface-level at best and cereal-box poetry at worst. There is no psychological conflict, no layered internal struggle—only vibes, convenience, and plot devices duct-taped together with eyeliner and hormones. Every moment that could have been emotionally profound instead gets sabotaged by cartoon logic. Even the few heartfelt gestures (like their shared love for their mothers) dissolved under the weight of inconsistencies.
And yet—and yet—somehow this book still managed to keep me flipping pages like a caffeinated raccoon watching trash burn. I will not deny the entertainment value. I laughed, I raged, I questioned my sanity. In a way, this book did move me—straight into fight-or-flight mode.

This was so bad its not even funny. The story was all over the place. I’m not even sure any of it made sense. I really had to push through to finish it, but I don’t think I was worth it.

Okay, wow. I went into this thinking it’d be your standard mafia-meets-damsel story, but nope—this book grabbed me by the throat and didn’t let go. From the first chapter, I was hooked on the tension, the danger, and the utter madness of Enzo Corsini. His obsession? Unholy. His love? Absolutely feral. And I ate. it. up. The twists kept me flipping pages like a maniac. Just when I thought I knew who the real villain was, the story flipped it on its head, and I sat there like, “Oh… oh we’re doing THIS now?” Amara isn’t some naïve wallflower either; she’s surviving, fighting, feeling her way through a nightmare, and I loved watching her strength clash with Enzo’s obsession. Their chemistry? Unhinged and magnetic. The kind where you know you shouldn’t root for them but you do anyway because the tension is that good. If you like your love stories with sharp edges, possessive heroes who would burn the world for their girl, and a storyline that keeps you guessing who the real monster is, this one’s going to hit the spot.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Anna and Enzo. Anna cares for her sick mom and trying to make ends meet. She gets a job as a waitress at this event and she is getting harassed by this old man, when she sees and runs ro Enzo asking for help. He pretends she's his girl and kisses her to make the old man leave her alone. From that moment on Enzo becomes obsessed he wants to know everything about Anna. This is how he figures out that she has applied for his company so he tricks her into believing she got the job on her own. She moves to Italy to be an assistant to Enzo but not knowing is him since he wore. A mask when she first met him. The book is very interesting some parts are a bit slow but, it's all worth it.

Good mafia story nevertheless
The story is interesting and I wanted to see what was coming next. But there are several points that seemed inappropriate to me: the MMC is virgin at 31. I mean, a mafia boss, virgin at 31! This is kind of ridiculous.
Also, the FMC is a bit inconsistent. Sometimes, she seems clueless and sometimes, she is very intuitive.
And the last point that was rather annoying was the various typos and bad punctuation.
Sex scenes are not abundant but well described.
All in all, I had a good time reading this book.

The storyline was good but there were a lot of inconsistencies in the story. There were conversations between Amara and her friend that made it seem like things had been discussed but weren't, almost like a chapter was left out. Enzo brought Amara to his apartment and it was supposed to be her first time there but she had already been there to drop off dry cleaning. These are just some examples.

Misleading title and description
This book started out okay but it definitely was not dark it was barely even Mafia. I really hate when authors describe the book as something that it's not that's what makes it so disappointing. It was not what I was looking for so I did not finish it.
