If it wasn’t so short and such an easy read, I would have dropped this book quickly. Very amateur and rudimentary writing style. One section is titled “many things help the brain”. It’s three sentences and boils down to “is this good or bad for my brain?” with zero insight on anything tangible that helps the brain. Author quotes herself to start almost every chapter. Not worth the paper it’s written on.
‘Regroup to stay energized and prevent burnout’ – Fine guidance!
Author Barbara Gustavson, founder of Discover Next Step, is a brain health educator with a Masters in Psychology and has written three books to date, dealing with her experience in coaching executives, organizations, and individuals for achieving greater impact – in both business and personal life. Her books to date: BREAKING AVERAGE, PERMISSION TO BE BOLD and now REGROUP. Her goal – ‘to help others prevent burnout, build resilience and lead sustainably.’ In the Foreward, Dr. Daniel Amen shares Barbara’s mission as ‘how to recover from the creeping depletion that hides behind high performance.’
In the opening chapter (The Tug You Can’t Ignore) Barbara posts, ‘Have you ever carried a weight you couldn’t name? The quiet doubt. The frustration. The sense that no matter what you do, something still feels off…Will you step up and be a voice for yourself?’ And in this exceptionally fine book she teaches us how to regroup, ‘pausing long enough to get clear on what matters most—so you can move forward with intention, not overwhelm.’ In a one on one completely accessible manner of coaching Barbara provides that much needed inspiration to regain our sense of purpose and self. Excellent advice warmly delivered!
Regroup: How to Reset Your Mind to Unlock Hidden Energy, Enjoy Productive Peace, and Feel Like Yourself Again by Barbara Gustavson is the perfect read if you are starting to feel a little burnt out by many factors in life. It’s so a useful read whether a business owner or not.
From reflecting on her own feelings Barbara Gustavson has created a helpful read that entwines personal stories, grounding insights and practical steps to help the reader remember that although it might seem like it at times you are not alone and tries to help you start living from a place of alignment, focus and deep connection. Having recently been taking a mindfulness course, I found this really quite interesting. I’m not a business owner but I do look after my Mum and have quite a busy job and there are times when the burn out starts to creep in. Within the book the author provides you with guidance on how to turn time management into untapped energy management, learn to work with your brain and not against it and much more. If you are having a tricky time and need a little help and advice this is the perfect book to read. It really was interesting.
As you read this book, you begin to realize that you can't always be in the "you can always count on me" mindset. And this thought gains strength when Barbara Gustav, the author of Regroup, indirectly but quite thoughtfully asks us the question: who will take care of everything if you don't take care of yourself? The book offers guidance on how to reconnect with yourself and understand the importance of pausing and regaining mental clarity. The book is written in an easy-to-understand style, revealing the author's intention to share her experiences and create a connection with the reader. When you finish reading the book, it leaves you with a lesson: taking care of yourself is more than a luxury; it's essential for continuing to live and achieving physical, emotional, and familial balance—in other words, balance in the different roles we play in our lives.
Have you ever felt like you're running on autopilot, getting everything done but without any real energy? This book talks about just that: mental fatigue that isn't always noticeable on the outside but builds up on the inside. Rather than offering magic formulas, it suggests taking a conscious break to reorganize your mind and feel in control again. It's easy to read and has a friendly tone, as if someone were speaking to you from experience rather than theory. The narrative is clear and light, which makes even concepts related to the brain and mental energy easy to understand. It's not overwhelming or preachy; on the contrary, it invites you to reflect without pressure. It is interesting because it replaces the idea of “being more productive” with a healthier one: learning to use your energy better and focus on what really matters. If you like practical, honest, and easy to read personal growth books, I recommend it.
Reading this type of book feels truly hopeful. I consider myself a restless person, and at times organizing my mind and aligning it with my goals, my past, and what I dream of for the future can be difficult. However, this book feels calming. It creates a space for reflection, almost like a personal therapy session that invites you to pause, look inward, and find motivation.
This book encourages the reader to grow, to not be afraid of facing themselves, and to keep moving forward in a process of self discovery. It helps align the mind, heal the past, and understand that although this path is not easy, it is necessary. Healing, reflecting, and moving forward are not simple tasks, but they are essential to living in a more conscious and balanced way.
It is a deep, inspiring, and very human book. An incredible read and highly recommended for anyone seeking clarity, inner peace, and personal growth.
This book has made me reflect deeply on the way I live my life. The book provides a genuine analysis of the responsibilities that every human being has towards others, but there is something that many of us forget: caring for ourselves, caring for our personal and intimate selves, and the good inner relationship we need to have with ourselves. The author is really spot on and very practical in addressing this latent problem. It has made me understand what it means to prioritize the individual without neglecting other priorities. It has made me reconnect with my time and my much-needed space, and it is truly adding those drops of happiness that were missing from my daily life. This book is especially recommended for people in their productive years, those who hope to be able to handle everything so they don't sink.
Before reading this book, my exhaustion was indescribable. The feeling that I had no time for anything and that I was always dedicating myself to everyone else was the most overwhelming thing for me. This book opened my mind; it's as if I had hired an assistant.
Ultimately, the challenge is mental; you have to adjust your mindset, and this author certainly knows how. If you feel overwhelmed by life and its responsibilities, believe me, you need to give this book a good read. It made me see things that seemed tiny but that matter when it comes to prioritizing ourselves over others, understanding our inner connection, and where the strength to do things actually comes from. The message I take away is that we have to reconnect to be who we always want to be but rarely achieve because there is so much else going on.
The book made me reflect on the importance of pausing even when life feels relatively stable. What I appreciated most is that the book presents regrouping as something you consciously choose to do, rather than something you only turn to when you are already burned out. The sequence of recognizing what needs attention, then regrouping, and finally rebuilding felt practical because it mirrors how moments of reflection unfold, helping you understand where you are before deciding what to change. It reinforced the idea that meaningful change requires clarity before action. It left me more aware of how important regular mental check-ins are, even when things seem to be going well. It reminded me that regrouping is not a setback or a sign that something is wrong. It is simply part of taking care of how you move through life and make decisions along the way.
When it comes to a useful and valuable book, "Regroup" takes the lead, especially for women. Barbara Gustavson highlights the importance of taking care of yourself to take care of the rest. Women always think about other people and sometimes they don’t pause to consider their needs. As a man, I really admire what the women from my circle do all the time. I think that this is a good read for them, to visualise, to understand what they do and how to reconnect with their minds and selves. The idea is to help women to focus on their purpose but lead from a tranquil, clear and resilient place. It seems difficult but every single idea and advice is explained in detail and with examples to understand the nitty gritty of Barbara´s point. In a nutshell, I think that it’s a must read for everyone who takes care of other people.
Regroup by Gustavson made me think about moments in my life when I felt tired, busy, and a little lost at the same time. I remember days when I was always doing something: answering messages, finishing tasks, but still feeling like I was not really present. The book helped me see that being busy is not always the same as feeling fulfilled.
What really caught my attention was the idea of stopping and looking inside. Sometimes we keep going because we are afraid to slow down and think about what we really feel, and I found myself really connecting with that idea.
I also connected a lot with the idea of alignment. There have been moments when I followed routines without asking if they were right for me. The book made me reflect on my values and the importance of making choices that feel true, not just easy or expected.
When I finished the book, I had a strange feeling in my head. People spend a lot of time thinking the solution is doing more things, organizing the day better, trying to perform more. But sometimes that is not the real problem. Sometimes a person is just tired inside and does not notice it.
While reading I kept thinking about normal life. Many people moving all day from one thing to another. Work, tasks, messages, everything together. And in the middle of that almost nobody stops to ask if the energy is real or if they only continue out of habit.
The book left me thinking that stopping for a moment is not wasting time, even if it sounds strange. Maybe it prevents a person from ending very exhausted. It is simple, but still difficult to do. I think that happens to many people.
The author of this book tackles a problem that not enough people take seriously. It’s the idea that even if someone looks like they are in total command of their life and they have everything under control, in reality, they may be feeling crushed by the weight of their responsibilities. Those who read this book can learn how to better manage their time and how to unwind when they have free moments. They will also learn about how to identify and take part in activities that let them recharge in the ways that make them feel most comfortable.
All of this matters more than you might think. Even those who seem calm on the surface are sometimes not as self-assured as they appear. Now, with help from this book, anyone can learn how to regroup and refocus in healthy, constructive ways.
At Regroup, I found a book that spoke to me directly and without complications. From the very first pages, I felt that Barbara Gustavson was putting into words something I often struggle to admit: that I can do anything, yes, but at the expense of myself. The book resonates especially if you're someone who's always there for others.
What I liked most is that it's not about "trying harder" or running away from the life we already have. Drawing on neuroscience and with a very practical approach, Barbara explains how to stop fighting with our brains and start working in our favor, transforming time management into energy management.
This book is ideal for anyone who feels they've lost touch with themselves and wants to feel at peace, focused, and truly energized again.
The burden of your responsibilities might be eating away at you from the inside, while on the outside it appears that you have got everything under control. In Regroup, author, Barbara Gustavson explains how she overcame this problem. By sharing stories from her own life and the strategies that have helped her in the past, Gustavson gives the reader the opportunity of overcoming their setbacks. I really like the advice that she gives on living your life from a centered perspective. This book is all about taking a deep breath and taking enough time to pay attention to the things that are really important to you. I highly recommend this volume to anyone seeking a more focused approach to life.
Aligning the mind with the present and with one’s dreams has not always been easy; on the contrary, it often becomes a complex process. This book shows us that everything is truly possible, as long as we are willing to take action and, at times, face and confront ourselves.
This exercise can be very challenging, but the author presents it in such a subtle and unique way that it becomes much more manageable. The book invites the reader to dare to gain clarity about their own life and to achieve deeper growth through the discovery and understanding of their past.
It is a deep, inspiring, and transformative read. A great book, highly recommended for those who wish to know themselves better and move toward a more conscious and fulfilling life.
“Regroup” is the perfect tool for working women. As it’s known, women have changed along the years. They are multifaceted, they work, raise children, maintain houses ,take care of the family and also take care of themselves. But the problem comes when the weight of everything is too much for them to hold. Barbara Gustavson has penned a book oriented to those women who never give in. She teaches ways of learning to work, to reconnect with activities that make people feel happy and well. The idea is to make a pause to clear the mind. She shares personal stories, insights and practical steps to leave a clear and resilient message to women. Everything is well-explained with anecdotes and personal experiences. I found it excellent.
This book arrived at a moment when I felt mentally tired and disconnected from myself. Regroup helped me slow down and understand that sometimes you don’t need to push harder, you need to reset and start over again. The message I think will stay with me for a long time, it is clear and calming, and it doesn’t feel overwhelming. What I liked most is how it talks about energy, peace, and productivity without pressure. It helped me realize how much energy I waste on doubting, overthinking, and stress. The idea of regrouping your mind instead of forcing motivation is something I feel identified with. After reading it, I felt centered. Now I understand that I don’t need to change everything in my life, just reconnect with myself.
I really enjoyed this book; it's quite revealing, showing how we can help ourselves in ways we're currently unaware of. This book is very valuable because it provides a comprehensive guide, blending neuroscience, psychology, and the author's personal experience. It presents a clear framework for resetting our minds and rediscovering our energy, concentration, and identity. I appreciate that the author doesn't focus on overnight changes; instead, she encourages us to make small shifts in our thinking to achieve what we want for our lives. I feel this book is for everyone, not just those who want to change or create value for anyone who simply wants to think differently and be resilient.
Regroup is one of those books that quietly sneaks up on you and then hits you with the realization that, yes, you’ve been running on empty for far too long. Barbara Gustavson blends neuroscience, storytelling, and practical advice in a way that feels professional and surprisingly personal. The book doesn’t preach or guilt-trip; instead, it invites you to slow down and rethink how you manage your energy, not just your schedule. Some sections feel almost like a gentle conversation with someone who genuinely gets the pressure you’re under. Overall, Regroup leaves you feeling understood, supported, and most importantly capable of actually making small, meaningful changes that help you feel like yourself again.
This book crossed my path almost by accident, and honestly, at the right time. I’ve been feeling a bit disconnected from myself lately, like I’m doing everything I’m supposed to do but not really feeling present. From the first pages, this book clicked with me. It felt personal, close, like someone actually understood what I’m carrying around every day. While reading, I had this quiet feeling of relief, like I wasn’t the only one feeling this way.
Barbara doesn’t write from a perfect place, and that’s what I loved. It’s honest, human, and very real. I truly want to put into practice what I learned here. I recommend this book, it’s genuinely useful.
Regroup is a guide for people who are exhausted due to the demands of family, work, and caregiving obligations on a daily basis. Barbara Gustavson combines her understanding of how the brain works based on both psychology and neuroscience, along with personal experiences, to provide tips on how to implement mind resets into your daily life. Rather than focus on getting you to do more, the author uses this guide to help you identify what drains you and what replenishes your energy. The method she proposes is incredibly thorough in its construction, and it maintains a calming and supportive tone. It has easy to apply exercises for you to do daily.
Wow, I just finished reading Regroup, and frankly it's a super intriguing self-help book I have ever encountered, and I tried quite a few, even back in my teens. The author dives into how life can be mega-stressful when always putting others first, which is something I could totally relate with. The way the book uses real-life anecdotes alongside easy steps is ace, it feels like getting advice from a close friend. It’s not just about pushing yourself harder, instead, it’s about understanding your brain and finding peace and energy again. It inspired me to chill and think hard about my real priorities. This reading truly helped me feel more hopeful.
Many people know how difficult it is to raise children and run a business, which is why Barbara, drawing on her own experience, wrote this insightful book. It helps readers overwhelmed by routine to pause and clarify what truly matters, enabling them to move forward with purpose and without becoming overwhelmed. Throughout the book, I discovered various topics I hadn't considered in my daily life, and Barbara helped me see that not all aspects are equally important and focus my attention on what really matters. I believe it's a great and highly educational and inspirational read, which I wholeheartedly recommend. Without a doubt, a book to reread from time to time.

The weight of our daily responsibilities often wears us down without us realizing it, and by the time we notice, it's too late and the damage is irreversible. I have felt overwhelmed by daily burdens more than once. Unconsciously, they become too much for us, and we reach a breaking point where we don't know how to deal with personal, family, financial, and work pressures. This book is a light for those moments of darkness, a hug for the reader, a timely reminder that “you are not alone.” Within its pages, we can find stories, personal experiences, practical ideas, and anecdotes that serve as a starting point for achieving deeper connections and a more meaningful life.
Barbara Gustavson has written Regroup at a time when humanity really needs to be reminded to pause and re-centre. By using the experiences from her own life and presenting them with a solid foundation based on neuroscience, she demonstrates that it is indeed possible to live in the moment. In today’s fast-paced world, we need to hear what this author presents. I love the fact that Gustavson encourages us to be kind to ourselves and to slowly build our sense of self again. This is about rewiring our brains. It’s about tapping into an endless supply of energy. It’s about finding yourself again and living your own life. If you feel that you are out of control, then this volume is a godsend.
For those of us who feel exhausted, who are procrastinating on life and don't know how to break out of that loop of discomfort, feeling overwhelmed by a to-do list we can't even start, this book is as eye-opening as it is essential. The author provides tools for our daily lives to help us reach our full potential through exercises that I found not only practical but truly innovative. I was surprised by the inclusion of proprioception as a fundamental pillar of self-listening. This book left me thinking on the importance of "here and now", regardless of how much today's world demands we act like machines running 24/7.
This book guide is great for those readers that give a lot and forget to put the same efforts in their lives and their motivations. I like how the author has this mix of brain science with real life examples, it's very easy to know what she means.
The book is also a great reminder to focus, pause and use all the knowledge and mental energy in better and more healthier ways.
It is a great book for anyone living in a world where value is linked with how much we produce. It is a great reminder that if readers are looking for long term success, firm and slow steps is the way to go.
Regroup is exactly the kind of book you don’t realize you need until you’re already running on empty. Barbara Gustavson speaks directly to high-functioning, responsible people who are used to carrying everything, and everyone, on their shoulders. From the first chapter, I felt seen. I would have liked it to be lighter but all in all this is a very good read I'd recommend for sure!
