I had a fantastic time bingeing the third instalment of the Dragon Reich series!!! Fast-paced and action-packed with plot twists, it was so easy to fall back into this magical world and then resurface with the realisation that I hadn't moved for two hours.
Without giving spoilers, this series follows Viktor and Izola, among other recurring POVs, as they fight against the growing fascist regime on their fantasy continent, known as the Thule Society. These dragon cultists draw frighteningly familiar parallels to the rise of the right-wing NSDAP (Nazi) Party in 1930's Germany. Our protagonists all bring different strengths and magical powers to the table whilst struggling to navigate their relationships with one another as well as their own perceived inadequacies. The characters are hilarious, the plot is high stakes, and I think this series is perfect for anyone who loves DnD, dragons, and RPG adventure games.
I believe this book in particular very easily engaged me, especially with its focus on certain characters' plots that I previously knew little about, as well as the change and growth I witnessed following the entertainingly flawed characters I've known from the very start.
Already looking forward to Book 4!

Damn, I don't know how many times I spat my tea out laughing at some of the comical scenes in this book. It is a bloody, hilarious, and fantastic roller coaster of a ride in the Dragon Reich series.

Dragon Bone Elixir is the third book in the series by Jordan Loyal Short, and it just gets better and better as I continue my journey through a series that has grown deep roots in me over the last couple of years with its witty dialogue, Excellent characters and wonderful storytelling.

What I absolutely love about this series is its action-packed, fast-paced, and full of very unexpected plot twists that will leave you turning the pages into the late night.

If you love your fantasy full of humorous scenes, politically intriguing, magic, dragons, and a full diverse set of characters from all walks of the fantasy world, then you will absolutely love this series.

In this book, we follow some of the main protagonists to the story. Izola and Vicktor, as they team up with the eccentric professor Jaber Wormwood. He's a mad alchemist who loves to dable with his own elixirs. But since the rise of the Thule society, they have been on run.

Professor Wormwood is a wanted man. He holds a secret elixir that's locked away in his mindscape. A cure that could help cure tumorlings or by falling into the wrong hands be used for evil by the Thule society. But first, Izola and Victor must help him navigate his past and unlock his missing memories while being hunted by a deranged ex pupil of the professor hell bent on getting his elixir for creating a dragon army.

Absolutely fantastic. if you haven't read any of Jordan Loyal Shorts' books, I very highly recommend that you do...😁💙💥🐲

I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review. No spoilers for this book, but some for previous entries in the series.
Receiving a copy of Jordan's latest book has become an enjoyable regular fixture in my life, as I think this is now the 6th of his novels I've read and reviewed. This series feels very unique, with its ridiculous, hilarious antics set against the back-drop of ever increasing horror as the world slides into fantasy-Nazism. This entry has Wormwood the very strange potions guy as its main character, and it is frequently over-the-top, crude, slapstick, and very funny. I did find myself missing some of the emotional depth that Page's Pyre had, because I think that the mother-daughter relationship at its heart was the real highlight of the series so far, and I'm hoping we'll see more of it in later books. Having said that, Dragon Bone Elixir does have its moving moments, and the final pages had me on the verge of tears. Would recommend, and looking forward to the next instalment.

Was I ecstatic to get back into this series, a series full of complexities and oomph, but with laugh out moments too. A strong theme and plot, very reminiscent of a certain war, with added magic, dragons and comedy you'd be hard pressed not to laugh at. And the most amazing characters I was thrilled to encounter once again! Another REALLY cool thing is, the author gave an excellent synopsis at the start of this book. While not really needed, for me anyway, as I tend to remember the events within the first few pages, it's much appreciated when an author takes time to bypass a reader trying to recollect what transpired.

Ooooo it was great to get back to Izola, Viktor, Devin, and more insight into Wormwood, he's a strange one but a really cool guy, with a huge secret squirreled soundly away. My favourite alchemist with an insatiable thirst to know more, to stretch boundaries and a very bad habit of..."testing" his potions on himself and golly do they do a host of different things! I love these characters, one wackier than the next but caring and supportive of each other. Trying to stop a war, well, when they aren't hounded, hunted, imprisoned or worse. Viktor, on the brink of execution, is "saved" by the war. Solders are needed more than dissidents, which Viktor is. But it''s.... complicated. Everything about Viktor is complicated. Since Otto Kepler took the helm, war is erupting everywhere. Izola , very, very ill, wants to reach out to her daughter Page, to make her see reason. And Page, well, she's caught up with the Thule Society, not fully aware of how nefarious their agenda is. Heck did my stomach drop for Izola though. All she's dealt with, her uncaring, selfish husband, her daughter who accused her of pretty much everything, and now? Now Izola's condition was worsening by the minute.

Wormwood is at the centre of it all, his muddled mind, his lost memories are the key. Problem? First one; he's struggling to remember, second one; everyone wants him, to get the information from him. Where that info has been hidden in his brain, is anyone's guess. As much as he's trying to remember, he knows that it's a dangerous memory, one that can, and would, be used for ill purpose. But snippets are starting to resurface and that causes yet another problem. Unlocking these hidden memories had me giggling, then chuckling, then laughing out loud. The scene in the inn alone is priceless! So too is the banter and the logic....or lack of it. But it's also dramatically tense, action filled and fast paced. It's the whole enchilada you get to enjoy, not just a piece. This is what Jordan excels at, the twists he throws in might seem random, except they're not. They're exceptionally well placed, they're exceedingly well illustrated, believe me, WELL illustrated! So much so I saw every butt hair! And there was butt....

One couldn't get a more mismatched bunch, who are forever getting into.... tough situations, yet their support of one another, their friendship, their determination to "cure their ailment" brings them together in the most unlikely of ways, in the most unlikely of events. I previous thought Izola was my favourite, she's just been superceded by Wormwood.... I wanted to howl in pain when Wormwood finally got to Hellen. I wanted to howl at what Wormwood did to himself. For atonement. For love. I loved the uniqueness to all of them, so diverse, so...THEM! This author is truly, truly amazing. His use of prose, his descriptive story, his intricate plot, his, at times, tongue in cheek humour, and HIGHLY entertaining storytelling is akin to binge watching Mr Bean or Fawlty Towers, simply ingenious! There's meaning to the story, there's a real threat in the form of war, in experiments on people, all very reminiscent of a "recent" horrific war", but with dragons, and humour, and friendship, and all round hilarious fun! Next book please!

Politics, magic, dragons, and love are all wrapped up in this witty series by Jordan Loyal Short. The Dragon Bone Elixir is the third instalment in the Dragon Reich series. The story continues on with much loved characters, Izola and Viktor, teaming up with Professor Wormwood. An alchemist who dabbles perhaps a bit too much with his own concoctions, leading to some interesting situations. His story makes up a large part of this book as it takes us on a journey of his life and work. From the start I found the story to twist and turn in a nonstop and action packed adventure that had me laughing out loud. Really looking forward to reading book four.
