Rate this book
Spiritual awakening is not a distant goal. The peace, joy, and wholeness you seek are waiting to be discovered in this very moment. This book is your guide.

Infinite Awakening is a comprehensive guide to the “pathless path” of nondual spirituality. It reveals that awakening is the recognition of your true nature—a state of peace, freedom, and interconnectedness that’s already complete and present within you. It invites you to explore the immediacy of your “natural state” and embrace awakening as a direct experience.

Drawing from decades of experience, including training in Zen, Tibetan Dzogchen, and Advaita Vedanta, author Stephan Bodian addresses essential questions, such

What are the stages of spiritual awakening?   How does the direct approach of the pathless path encourage awakening? What are the common challenges on this path, and how can we work with them? How does nondual spirituality differ from other spiritual perspectives? What is the role of a teacher, and what are the potential pitfalls? How can we live from an awakened understanding in every moment of our lives? How does trauma affect the awakening process?
As a spiritual teacher and psychotherapist, Bodian demystifies awakening with his down-to-earth approach, offering practical teachings, meditations, direct pointers, and exercises to help you not only wake up but also integrate your realization into the ordinary situations and relationships you encounter in everyday life.

Those new to the spiritual path, as well as fans of teachers like Adyashanti, Eckhart Tolle, Loch Kelly, and Sam Harris, will find this an invaluable guide to nondual wisdom and the pathless path.

Very satisfying.

Very clarifying.

Very impressive.

Masterful teaching and communication.

Stephan Bodian is a contemporary non-dual teacher with a very long and serious résumé that includes study with a lot of heavy-hitting Zen and non-dual teachers, including Shunryu Suzuki Roshi, Jean Klein, and Adyashanti.

Bodian also trained as a psychotherapist and specialized in trauma when he was still practicing.

Additionally, Bodian founded the very popular School for Awakening.

As with other non-dual teachers, Bodian’s central message is that awakening is not something the separate self achieves in the future, but the direct recognition of awareness as the always already-present ground of being.

Bodian asserts that you cannot “achieve” non-dual awakening. Rather, awakening happens, paradoxically and essentially accidentally, through relaxing the egocentric search and directly, spontaneously recognizing that the awareness that is the essence of being is always already the case.

In other words, the essence of what you’re looking through is what you’re looking for.

The spiritual task is not to perfect the ego-self, but to see through identification with ego and live from the freedom, love, and interconnectedness of awakened presence.

None of this is at all new to Bodian.

If you’re basically familiar with non-duality, you are not going to find a lot of revelatory new “information” here.

But the book absolutely shines in its clarity of presentation and its apparent ease of interpretation and integration of otherwise vexing concepts and practices.

Bodian seamlessly integrates non-dual traditions such as Zen, Dzogchen/Mahamudra, and Advaita Vedanta with psychology and psychotherapy in a way that, in my opinion, should satisfy “experts” in each of these domains.

I think this book is a major contribution to the field. It’s very practical and accessible without sacrificing precision or depth.

I would put this on a short list for any serious meditation/non-dual practitioner.

Superb.

I really loved it.

This book really needed to get written.

Great resource.

Thank you Stephan Bodian 🙏

I received this book in a Goodreads giveaway.

This book is dense with information about what awakening is. The author is knowledgeable and provides information that can be trusted. There are practices I the book as well, which is important. Awakening is not something that can be learned by reading a book. Awakening is not head knowledge, it is heart knowing. Awakening is beyond a person, as the author wisely explains. You cannot be awakened and recognize yourself as awakened.

That wise statement is what leaves me in a quandary about this book. A dense book of information that must essentially disappear, along with the person reading it, before it becomes real.

Disappointed. I starts out great but 30-40% in it switches from contemplative traditions to psychology. No pointing out instructions, barely any meditations... The last two chapters try to reconcile both approaches, the spiritual and the scientific and it has some good nuggets. But for the most part, it takes a detour that feels unnecessary and just there for the western practitioner and hardly recovers at the end. Wish it had stayed in its lane and gone deeper on Dzogchen, Advaita, and other techniques like On Having no Head.
