He saves her life...she wrecks his sanity--a spicy, funny sci-fi romcom with grumpy/sunshine banter, forced proximity, and one very protective alien hero.
Sunny Craythorn has a problem. Her Kindred bodyguard, Greer, does everything a man in love would do—ties her shoes, carries her over mud puddles, saves her from danger again and again. The only catch? He does it all with a scowl.
Greer knows he’s hopelessly gone for the curvy, sunshine-bright scientist he’s sworn to protect. But as a Pitch-Blood Kindred, his bite is painful to anyone but his Fated Mate—and since finding one is a billion-to-one shot, he’s resigned himself to wanting Sunny from afar.
Until their mission to Thropp’ic Sigma changes everything. Here, the women choose their partners…topless. And when every male on the planet wants Sunny, Greer has no choice but to claim her as his. Even if it means proving his right in the most scandalous way possible—on the infamous Chair of Female Pleasure.
Now the grumpy protector is about to become the possessive alien lover—and Sunny’s about to learn just how sweet her scowling Kindred can be.
Perfect for fans of grumpy/sunshine romance, bodyguard protector heroes, forced proximity, only one bed, fated mates, and laugh-out-loud sci-fi spice.
Evangeline Anderson is a registered MRI tech who would rather be writing. And yes, she is nerdy enough to have a bumper sticker that says “I’d rather be writing.” Honk if you see her! She is thirty-something and lives in Florida with a husband, a son, and two cats. She had been writing erotic fiction for her own gratification for a number of years before it occurred to her to try and get paid for it. To her delight, she found that it was actually possible to get money for having a dirty mind and she has been writing paranormal and Sci-fi erotica steadily ever since.
Short but very enjoyable! Sunny and her Protector, the Kindred Greer, have been going on quests while Sunny researches other alien cultures. Each time, Greer has to rescue herself from the trouble she inadvertently gets herself into. It's Sunny and Greer's last mission together, and Sunny wonders if she can finally crack her grumpy protector.
WHEN I SAY THIS WAS SHHHMMMEXXXYYYYYYY !! oof gotta love some book 🌽 ANY WHOO
Spice omfggggg 200000/ 5 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ im not going to lie that shit made the inside of my thighs slippery than a waterslide
World building 5/5 she (author) always has a knack for description which i appreciate for world building.
Character building 3 okay so i like the character building but i find that the characters are way to overly described. And it got to a point where i had to skim through some of the description words because it was taking me out of my reading mode and started to make me role my eyes at the “super chiseled five pack abs that are super sexy” (not the exact wording, but you get what I mean)
Character development 2/5 honestly not the best i find that the character is very much the same from beginning to end, there is no “smartening up” or anything of the sort. I personally would have liked the fmc to have a better sense of judgement. And i get that its to help the plot go along but i feel like it could have been just thought out and written better and gotten the same or better result.
Story line/plot 3.5 it was again something cliché. But it like the bends in a road that are familiar but still enjoyable! Its one of those things that is just good soup!
If you are looking for some high heat this is for you. Is it a little (a lot) cliché yes but it still hits. The only thing im not a fan of is the prelude to the dangerous things I find it quite unnecessary and in a way spoils the plot/climax of the book.
Tempting Her Grumpy Protector is another stellar installment in Kindred Short Tales, and it delivers everything fans adore steamy tension, heartfelt emotion, and high stakes alien encounters.
Dr. Sunny Craythorn is brilliant, curious, and determined to finish her groundbreaking research on alien cultures. But her final mission to the mysterious world of Thropp'ic Sigma isn’t just academically risky it’s emotionally explosive. At her side is the ever brooding, fiercely protective Blood Pitch Kindred warrior, Greer, whose smoldering presence threatens to unravel her calm, scientific exterior.
Greer has saved Sunny more times than she can count, but now the greatest danger may be the heat between them. He's convinced he’s too damaged to be more than her guardian but this mission will test not only their survival skills, but their hearts.
✨ Expect danger, desire, and a whirlwind of delicious twists. There are moments that will steal your breath and others that will leave you fanning yourself (yes, it's that kind of hot 🔥).
If you’re into grumpy x sunshine, protective warriors with soft hearts, or alien romances with a pulse pounding edge, this is your next one click obsession.
📌 As always, my reviews are 100% voluntary no monetary compensation involved. These thoughts are entirely my own.
Evangeline Anderson describes her book as a spicy, funny sci-fi romcom with grumpy/sunshine banter, forced proximity, and one very protective alien hero. Soleil Craythorn, aka Sunny, is researching various alien cultures so she can compare and contrast them in an academic report. She is accompanied by a Kindred bodyguard, Greer, whom she is definitely attracted to. Sunny’s personality and appearance fit her name perfectly. Greer is absolutely in love with her, but he has a permanent scowl on his face because he is a Pitch Blood Kindred and believes he can never claim her. We get to accompany them on their last visit, a mission to Thropp’ic Sigma. Book 7 of Kindred Spicy Shorts lives up to that name. Parts of the plot are hot and steamy, and others are laugh-out-loud funny. Sunny gets into all kinds of misadventures, and Greer is always there to save her. She definitely has “book smarts” but often she acts before she thinks. I really enjoyed this Spicy Short, but I know I’ll never think of fingerpainting in the same way!

This is the seventh short story in the Kindred Tales Spicy Shorts series, and once again, Evangeline Anderson delivers!
Sunny and Greer completely stole my heart. Their push-and-pull dynamic, the struggles they face, and the tension between them kept me hooked from the first page. You get adventure, spice, and that oh-so-satisfying HEA we crave.
Evangeline’s writing never disappoints—her stories are engaging, addictive, and so immersive that you wish you were the heroine swept up in this alien romance. This installment exceeded my expectations, and I can’t wait to see what she gives us next. Definitely one of my top reads of 2025!
Dr. Sunny Craythorn is about to embark on her final mission to visit the inhabitants of Thropp'ic Sigma to finish her paper on different gender roles and societal norms within other alien cultures. Her assigned bodyguard, a Blood-Pitch Kindred warrior named Greer has travelled with her and has gotten Sunny out of all types of precarious situations along the way. He is very much attracted to her but fears he will only cause her pain. This last mission will test both of their resolves to the limit. Will it bring them closer together or end in regret? A fun paced romantic frenzy full of unexpected surprises, some heart stopping, some melt your reader hot!
Oh my!! As with all the other Kindred stories this one has a very high level of heat. It also has less than acceptable beings that cannot and should not be trusted. Sunny is a wonderfully nice, sexy, smart and caring character....who happens to not only have the hots for her Protector but is in fact, in love with him. Greer is a hot , very protective but lonely Kindred who thinks the woman he lusts after and loves can never be his. My kindle was smoking during parts of this story. There were parts that I wanted to climb in a physically take care of a few males. But I am not a hands on violent person plus, Hello! it's a book so I had to trust the author to take care of them, as she always does. Who doesn't love a story with a hot, growly Kindred and his voluptuous, smart lady?
Amazing story all around. I highly recommend this.
Sunny literally lives up to her name, she's a scientist visiting other planets for her research. Her assigned body is grumpy and very protective. She manages to get into trouble everywhere and he's always there to save her. The latest planet changes everything, he needs to go above and beyond to get them out of this mishap. Despite all the troubles I couldn't stop laughing while reading this story, it's a lot of fun and a HEA.
This book was absolutely amazing, I was having a not great week and this was just the pick me up I needed. I love the way her protector tries to keep his distance to protect her by then does a big u turn when he realises there is loads of other guys wanting her. Definitely worth a read. 💗
This is another wonderful addition to the spicy short collection. I loved how much Greer cared for Sunny but felt he could never be with her, yet was always there to get her out of trouble. As always, the spiciness is muy fuego!!!
I just love this series and this author books. They are so imaginative and the crazy other worlds and even crazier customs are always fascinating to read. Loved it!.
