Literally screamed YEAAAA when I saw this in my email. I AM TREMBLING
I was given an advanced reader copy in exchange for a honest review.
Oh, where do I even begin with “Puppet Soul”? Let’s just say it was one of those rare 5-star gems that made me question my life choices for not reading it sooner. I’ve been shouting from the rooftops, or at least my living room, to all my bookish friends to dive into this masterpiece of a series. Even if you’re not a fan of the “why choose” trope, fear not! The plot is so gripping, you’ll forget all about it. (Disclaimer: I’m a reverse harem enthusiast, so my opinion might be slightly biased, but hey, who doesn’t love a good love triangle… or pentagon?) and the title itself is a bit of a Easter egg for the plot! 🤭
As I flipped through my highlights and notes, I found myself scribbling things like “Oh my gosh??” and “HUH??” more times than I care to admit. I was practically glued to my seat, heart pounding and trying to consume words faster than I can. Carter’s character development was nothing short of magical. I mean, I couldn’t stand him in the first book, but by the second, I was head over heels for the oversized pigeon.
We get to hear from four out of five of her mates, finally peeling back the layers on some of these mysterious characters and diving deeper into others. And let’s talk about the plot twist! It was like a rollercoaster for my emotions. I had a serious grudge against one of her mates, but by the end, I was doing a complete 180° and swooning over him again. I’m on the edge of my seat, hoping all six of them will be in the same room in the next book. But let’s be real, if they are, it’s probably going to be more of a bloodbath than a tea party. (I am so here for it)
Now, if you’ve read my first review (which is a must-read, by the way), you’ll know Dimitri was my favorite. And he still is! I can only compare him to Ariete from “Heavenly Bodies”—both are deliciously evil BUT for good reasons. Dimitri’s devotion to Anastasia is like a fine wine, getting better with age, and we get to uncover more of their tantalizing past. Anastasia’s backstory was handled with such finesse that I was left in awe.
Flashbacks are usually a no-go for me, but in this book, I devoured them like a kid in a candy store. Each one was a puzzle piece, hinting at a bigger, more exciting picture. Overall, “Puppet Soul” was just as phenomenal as its predecessor, and I’m counting down the days until I can reunite with these characters in “Hunted Soul.” Until then, I’ll be here, impatiently twiddling my thumbs and re-reading my favorite parts.
