My son continues to select these adventures from the library. This one was appropriate for Thanksgiving week even though the story takes place in the spring. Fun, descriptive, and responsible read about hunting.

We purchased several books by Kevin Lovegreen for our son based upon advertising with a homeschool magazine. I was pleased with Lovegreen's story as it made for a great read-aloud. The chapters were just long enough to provide lots of detail and action but short enough that reading them aloud was not a chore.

If your children are interested in the outdoors or hunting, this is an excellent choice. Children starting with age 6 could probably read it independently.

My only reservation is the fact that it is part of "Lucky" Luke's Hunting Adventures. The idea of "lucky" is shared several times in the book. Luck is not something that we necessarily attribute our success to. I wish that the author had focused less on the luck and more on the practice and skill (which he does mention). This however does not deter me from reading others in the series aloud to our children.
