Wilson Schroeder has a direct and engaging style that's full of humour and attention to detail, painting vivid pictures of place and character. Jack Carlisle is a PI with a penchant for ass-kicking and lethal weaponry. The plot is complex, deftly-woven through with sex, drugs, extortion and violence, yet it also has it's softer, compassionate side. Throughout the story, I stared down the barrel of a gun, wondering who was going to pull the trigger, and when. I really enjoyed it.
