Learn the essential crochet stitches with this comprehensive, beginner-friendly, and gorgeously illustrated guide. Starting with the fundamental skills of crochet, this step-by-step guide builds on basic stitches with a series of creative variations and techniques. Each stitch and variation is presented in easy-to-follow color illustrations. The encyclopedic, dip-in, dip-out approach is well-suited for beginners looking to build a foundation of stitch techniques as well as seasoned crafters who will appreciate the handy reference. Perfect for visual learners, the classically designed Stitch Encyclopedia series also includes volumes on Embroidery and Knitting.
This book is great for beginner, but the word Encyclopedia in the title is misleading. These are only the basic stitches and probably wouldn't work for most who already know how to crochet. The illustrations are good. Overall 3-stars.
Quick simple book to show you stiches and nothing else. It does mention a bit about tools at the end of the book. The book is illustrated and not pictures of real work in progress, however this book did a better job illustrating that many other books do. I'm not usually a fan of the illustrated books and prefer real pictures but I could work with these and understand them. It does not give you any projects to work on so I marked it down starts for that. It's great that it has some stiches, but it doesn't have them all and no projects so I'm not sure really what the point is unless you want to learn basic stitches but not have any specific projects to learn them with.
With such an ambitious title, I expected more. It would be better titled, An Amazing Illustrated Pocket Guide for Beginner Crochet. Now that name it lives up to, spectacularly. The detail of every stitch is illustrated. Once an absolute beginner adjusted to the illustrations, then it is the perfect self-teaching guide. With each new stitch demonstrated, and learned, the author shows the symbol that denotes it in patterns.
I have crocheted for several years, but I can stand a few pointers, and did learn how to make better circles, and joins.
If I had this when I started, my work would be improved. This would be a spectacular gift for anyone interested in this craft to get them started.
