'Tina Hodgkinson knows her Christie and she knows her London, and the result is Agatha Christie's London, an indispensable guide to the capital that Agatha knew and loved and wrote about.' – Tony Medawar, former director of the International Agatha Christie Festival
London had a special place in Agatha Christie's heart. In her childhood, she would visit the capital to stay with her Auntie Grannie; as an adult, she owned several homes in the city. A reoccurring location in her stories, London is where Poirot and Hastings, and Tommy and Tuppence reside, and even Miss Marple cannot resist a trip up to town to shop in its department stores.
Avoid red herrings, examine the clues to discover several of her former homes, use your little grey cells to detect where she worked during the Second World War, and probe where the former 'Detection Club' met. Gather the evidence to reveal the fashionable restaurants, luxury hotels and other locations that she and her characters frequented.
On completion of your investigation, your denouement will reveal the final just how important London was to Agatha and her stories.
If you are a huge Agatha Christie fan like me, then I recommend you pick up this fascinating book about her links to London.
It is split up into different parts such as the various places she lived in London and her personal family connections to it, the real places where characters in her books visited, the plays she had written and where they featured and also a walking tour!
Even if you haven’t visited London it still gives you a lot of insight and vivid descriptions that help you picture everywhere that is featured as if you are physically there. I have visited London many times and I think one of the next times I might have to take this book with me and do some of the walking tour!
Reading about what London was like in the past and what buildings still stand I found particularly interesting. I love history so all the various historical details and fun facts kept me reading on. There are also some fantastic photographs and maps included.

Such a fun and well-researched exploration of the many places in London that were important in Agatha Christie’s life and work. There were fascinating details about how London changed throughout the years. I loved hearing where Agatha lived. You can read different sections depending on whether you’re most interested in her life, her books, or taking a London walking tour.
I was very excited when I found this book. I have a lot of books and a lot of books I want to read, but occasionally I find something that I start reading immediately. I have mixed feelings about the book after reading it. My interest slowed down while reading it. A large portion of it is just listing London addresses (when going through the book catalogue) and listing books and characters (when describing the Agatha Christie tour's buildings and addresses). Portions are repetitive and although the premise of the book is sound, it feels a bit tenuous with some of the repetitions (e.g. the Apothecaries Hall). I'd like to do the walking tour at some point. Though I know a lot of the locations, there are things that I did not notice before. Part of the walk relates to buildings or businesses that are no longer there, so I'm curious to know how interesting the tour actually is. But it looks like a fun stroll through Central London, and I was not aware of the Agatha Monument. The book also showed me new elements of the Agatha Christie stories that I had not been aware of, or things I suspected and was not sure of (e.g. all stories being set in the same 'universe'). Would recommend for an Agatha Christie fan or a London fan.
