In this book there is a rupture in time and Dahlia ends up back in 1625 where she needs to help The Keeper and Astra work out the puzzle to keep the library safe and get her back home again.
I can see young children enjoying reading this beautifully illustrated booked themselves or it would make a great bedtime read by parents/guardians to their children

The Library of Lost Dreams – Journey into the Past: The Expanded Edition: A Magical Library Time Travel Adventure By Andrei Goanta Publisher: Independently Published Published Date: August 20, 2025 ASIN: B0FN78WDGX Page Count: 78 Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
What Did I Just Walk Into? Dahlia thought she’d earned a break after saving the dream library. Wrong. Enter The Memory Thief, who doesn’t just snack on dreams like last book’s villain, but full-on erases memories. One magical mishap later, Dahlia is flung into 1625 with only her wits, a Keeper, and Astra the apprentice who has the energy of ten toddlers after Pixy Stix. Dahlia’s mission: solve ancient regrets, stop a villain in the making, and hopefully make it back home before Mom wonders why the library books are overdue.
Here’s What Slapped: Stronger opening than book one, grabs attention right away.
The Memory Thief is a great upgrade in villainy, with higher stakes and creep factor.
Gorgeous illustrations again, practically glowing off the page.
The time travel twist keeps the pace lively and fun.
Astra the apprentice is chaotic sunshine and steals scenes like she steals your patience.
What Could’ve Been Better: Dahlia stays confused a little too long in 1625, making you want to hand her a map and a snack. She feels slightly flatter here compared to book one, though Astra balances that out. Cliffhanger vibes at the end—you’ll want book three immediately, and it’s still cooking.
Perfect for Readers Who Love: Middle-grade time travel with magical flair Libraries that don’t obey boring rules like “no secret doors” Villains who erase memories instead of twirling mustaches Kids solving puzzles with bravery and empathy Bedtime chapter reads with pretty art to keep the kids hooked

Book Review – Journey Into the Past: The Library of Lost Dreams (Expanded Edition) by Andrei Goanta
As I explored Journey Into the Past, I felt as if I had stepped inside a living dream. The pictures and words together created a magical world full of mystery, heart, and adventure. The story takes us back in time—long before Dahlia was even born—where a powerful experiment goes wrong, giving birth to the Memory Thief, a shadow that steals not only dreams but entire memories and histories. I found this idea both fascinating and frightening, because it shows how fragile our past truly is.
The images are full of life—the crying child in the mirror shattered my heart, showing deep grief and loss. The magical machine with spinning lights and gears felt like a mix of science and sorcery, pulling me into a world where dreams can be created… or destroyed. On the book cover, a young girl and a cute owl stand in front of a swirling vortex of light—this instantly gave me the feeling that this story is not an ordinary adventure, but a journey of courage and destiny.
What touched me most was the emotional depth. Through Dahlia’s struggle, we see loneliness, hope, and determination. She is thrown into a time that is not hers, forced to face the origins of the darkness herself. I loved how the story is not just about fantasy—it’s about memory, pain, and healing. Even the Keeper speaks about destiny with wisdom, reminding us that some people are born with a purpose greater than they realize.
The writing feels cinematic and heartfelt. The mystery of the Memory Thief kept me turning pages, and the bond between characters— especially Dahlia and the little owl—adds a warm charm to the tense storyline. I truly enjoyed how the story mixes humour, fear, magic, and moral lessons all together. It shows that even in the darkest past, there is light waiting to be found.
This book is more than an adventure—it’s a reminder that memories shape who we are, and protecting them is a kind of magic in itself. I would recommend this to anyone who loves fantasy with soul, imagination with emotion, and stories that leave a spark in the heart.
The Library of Lost Dreams - Journey into the Past is a delightful blend of magic, imagination, and adventure. It is heartfelt storytelling that transports young readers into a world where books do far more than tell stories. They open portals to forgotten times. The Expanded Edition deepens this magical treat, giving readers a richer experience of time travel, friendship, dreams, and curiosity. The story follows Dahlia, who is suddenly transported to the 17th century, where she meets Astra and the Keeper of Stories. Though Dahlia is fascinated by this world and longs to stay, she must return home—but that is not a simple task. The Time Machine needs energy drawn from the energy of lost dreams. Only when these forgotten dreams reignite can Dahlia travel back. Through kind words, hope, and encouragement, Dahlia helps many others rekindle their dreams. But soon she realises that the problem is far greater than she imagined-energy is leaking, as if someone is feeding on it. A dark force begins swallowing the memories on which people live and thrive. It now falls upon Dahlia and her friends to save the world from this consuming darkness. The book beautifully emphasises how kindness and courage can illuminate even the darkest corners of the world. It reminds us that dreams are not just fantasies. They hold power, fuel our journey, and shape our future. When we stop dreaming, darkness grows. When we share hope, light multiplies. In a world where children face silent pressures and adults forget the magic of childhood imagination, this story becomes a gentle reminder: Never stop dreaming. Never stop believing in light. Andrei Goanta blends classic storytelling with enchanting visuals, making this time-travel adventure not just a book, but a spark that encourages young readers to protect their dreams, cherish memories, and choose bravery over fear. A magical, meaningful, and emotionally uplifting read for both children and adults who still carry a child within.
Fantasy and imagination sparkle on every page with an exciting adventure to grab until the end.
Dahlia finds herself, suddenly, in the past. A familiar face is there, but this owl of the past hasn't met her, yet. Luckily, time travel and magic aren't anything new to the library, and the current guardian knows fairly quickly, who she is. Knowing that she might be able to solve one of their problems, he asks her to heal dreams, but it turns out that the problem isn't that simple. Instead, a memory thief is wrecking havoc, and she's the only one that can stop it.
This is an exciting tale from beginning to end, which keeps the pacing high the entire way through. It is created in a slightly larger text, making it easy to read, and the amount of words on each page also don't weigh down. Add the shorter length of the entire book, and it works great for anyone, who simply wants to dive into a quick tale. The imagination holds a playful touch, which invites to dreams and creates an enjoyable world. This works nicely to counter-balance the monster and less joyful themes she runs up against, giving the tale its fun tone. It fits well to the age group, and I'd recommend it even for slightly younger readers. The action stays in control, leaving less room for depth, and this fits nicely to that age group.
The illustrations make this read a real treat. Each page is decorated in the corners with golden weaves, while bright, colorful illustrations mark almost every page. These draw in and bring the world to life. It's fun to stop and simply gaze at each one.
This is a fun tale with tons of room to explore more, and I'm looking forward to seeing where Dahlia and her adventures will take her next.
This second book in the series is truly remarkable. It deepens our understanding of the library and the keepers sworn to protect it. The heart-wrenching tales we encounter reveal that the past conceals more secrets than we often acknowledge. Importantly, we learn that overcoming negative emotions is entirely possible.
Dahlia believed she had earned a well-deserved break after triumphantly saving the dream library, but she was mistaken. The Memory Thief emerges as a formidable villain who doesn’t merely snack on dreams like the antagonist from the previous book; he erases memories. Following a magical mishap, Dahlia finds herself thrust back to 1625, equipped only with her cleverness, a Keeper, and Astra, the exuberant apprentice brimming with the energy of my grandchildren after emptying their Halloween bucket in one go.
Dahlia's mission is clear: resolve ancient regrets, thwart a villain in the making, and return home before her mom discovers the overdue library books. This story masterfully weaves themes of stolen memories, ambition, and regret, creating a narrative that is both touching and thought-provoking. The writing is vivid, imaginative, and absolutely perfect for children.
My great-granddaughter will be 7 next month, so this one took a bit longer to read, with no less enjoyment or wonder than the first book in the series. When she found out book three was due to come out soon, the excitement was still there. It's given us some great memories and fed her love of reading.
This book was sent to me by the author for review, which has not impacted the outcome or results. The opinions stated are mine and mine alone.
Having reviewed book 1 of this series, I had higher expectations for book 2. I looked for improvements and growth. In Journey Into the Past, I was not disappointed. The intro was far better in this book. Goanta crafted it in a way that will draw kids in and make them wonder what is coming next. Once again, it had stunning visuals that assist in telling the story. I can't imagine a child who would not look at the pictures and be amazed. Like the introduction, the rest of the book captures the reader's attention. One example of this is in the use of descriptive writing. Goanta is descriptive, but not to the point of it possibly losing a child. With kid's books this is a fine line that an author has to walk. At no point did I feel that a child's attention would wane.
I did find that when Dahlia arrives she is confused for longer than she should have been, but this was a minor detail. Another minor detail was that Dahlia seemed a bit shallower. However, it is a second book, so much of her depth was crafted in book 1. Looking at the concept and twist, these were both interesting and fun. I could see kids enjoying that. To wrap it up, the ending also was creative and fun.
Overall, I would happily recommend this book to parents with kids who have a creative mind.
Journey into the Past – The Library of Lost Dreams continues Andrei Goanță’s enchanting fantasy series. This book is ideal for middle graders through adults. The readers are taken to a mystical land through the story, which blends time travel, memory, and emotional healing. The book follows young dream-traveller Dahlia, who is accidentally transported centuries into the past by a malfunctioning dream machine.
Once she reached the past, she discovered the earlier version of the same magical library of lost dreams, which could be a gloomy place. She panics that she may never go back to her present life ever. The past is both wondrous and dangerous, filled with magical hallways that shuffle emotions and books that contain people’s lost futures. Right from the beginning, Dahlia is guarded by Astra the Owl, and also the Keeper of Stories. The Keeper holds all the ancient secrets of the library. Together they find and fight the villain who is set out to steal and destroy the memories and is rightly called the memory thief. Through her adventures, Dahlia learns how easily dreams fade when ignored and how powerful empathy can be in healing loss.
The author's narration is clear, gentle, and also connects the readers emotionally. The young readers are captivated by the fast pace of the book, and the colourful illustrations are a bonus. This fantasy tale is a reminder for everybody that every forgotten dream is worth reclaiming.
Journey Into the Past surprised me in the best way. It’s a children’s book, yes, but it carries a warmth and emotional depth that even adults can feel deeply. This story continues Dahlia’s journey, and this time she’s pulled into the past—where forgotten dreams, lost memories, and quiet fears take center stage.
I loved meeting the younger version of Astra and seeing a more vulnerable side of the Keeper. The dynamic between them and Dahlia feels genuine and filled with small, meaningful moments. The Memory Thief was a brilliant creation—both mystical and symbolic—and the Broccoli Monster added a hilarious, unexpected twist that made me smile.
The writing feels gentle but purposeful. Every chapter carries a soft message about hope, courage, and the importance of holding onto the parts of ourselves that the world sometimes makes us forget. And the illustrations are stunning—they elevate the story completely.
The final goodbye in the past carried a surprising emotional weight. It was bittersweet but written with a lot of heart.
Overall, this book is magical, thoughtful, and beautifully crafted—a wonderful continuation of the series.
🪄Journey into the past by A. Goanta is a reflective and quietly powerful novel that explores how memory shapes identity, relationships, and the choices we carry with us long after time has passed. Goanta’s writing is graceful and unhurried, drawing the reader into a world where the emotional landscape is just as vivid as the physical one.
🪄The protagonist’s return to the places and people who once defined them becomes a moving exploration of regret, nostalgia, and healing. Each chapter peels back another layer of the character’s inner world, revealing how unresolved emotions linger beneath the surface.
🪄Goanta’s storytelling is introspective without ever becoming heavy. Descriptions are evocative, the pacing is balanced, and the themes—love lost, mistakes remembered, and second chances—are universal enough to resonate with many readers.
🪄If there’s one standout element, it’s the author’s skill at capturing the quiet moments: the silences between conversations, the tenderness of old memories, and the ache of confronting one’s own history.Overall it's an emotional and enjoyable read for me .
Journey Into the Past swept me straight into a world where time bends, memories disappear, and magic feels real enough to touch. From the very first line yes, you know this story is going to be wonderfully different. Just when Dahlia thinks everything is finally safe a new threat rises the Memory Thief, a villain who doesn’t just steal dreams, but erases laughter, color, and entire emotions. And when a magical experiment backfires, Dahlia is thrown hundreds of years into the past forced to face a history filled with ambition, betrayal and heartbreak.
What I adore is how the author blends humor, danger, mystery, and warmth with such effortless charm.
The magical illustrations and the entire vibe of this genre made me fall in love with reading all over again. Dahlia’s journey through forgotten timelines is gripping, emotional, and beautifully crafted and the Keeper’s apprentice adds the perfect burst of chaotic fun.
Once again the author surprised me with a story that feels vivid, alive, and unforgettable.
This is the second book in the series. While the first one talks about missing dreams, this one is about missing memories and time travel. The main character, Dahlia is the same, but of course with much more experience and grace since the last book. We see a younger version of Astra, which is so cute! The old Keeper played a crucial role, which is well evident in the last chapter.
For a children's book, this one is thrilling! It's going to keep the readers hooked. The illustrations will mesmerize the little ones, and compel them to keep on flipping the pages. It's a short read too (just 80 pages), and for a refreshing read, can be read by adults too!
By the end, it takes an emotional turn. The final goodbye from the past was sad, but much needed. I can say that this is a sweet and emotional story. The last embrace brings warmth. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
“Sometimes the past must be discovered, not told.”
“Journey into the Past” is the second book in The Library of Lost Dreams series, where after saving her library, Dahlia returns with her gift of healing dreams. This time, however, she finds herself a hundred years back in time, where she meets the young Astra and the Keeper of Stories. Determined to help them fight The Memory Thief, Dahlia is thrown into a thrilling battle with time and words, where finding the means to defeat the monster might be her only way home.
Like the first book, this one is brimming with adventure and magic. Unraveling each mystery of The Memory Thief was both exciting and satisfying, and the “Broccoli Monster” absolutely stole the show. The beautiful illustrations perfectly complement the wonderful storytelling.
At its core, the book explores how regret can break people and turn them into monsters. It’s a must-read for young readers who love mysteries with a touch of depth and imagination.
This review is from my nine year old daughter... This book was so fun to read! It felt like I was stepping back inside a secret world that nobody else knew about. The library in the story is huge and filled with dreams that shimmer, glow, and sometimes even whisper. I thought that was really cool, and I want to walk through it myself.
The adventure into the past was one of my favourite parts because it showed how tiny moments can become big memories. Some scenes made me hold my breath, but nothing was too scary. It was the kind of story that made me want to flip the pages faster and faster.
I liked the main character because she is brave and curious, just like I try to be. The whole book felt magical and special, the kind you want to tell your friends about right away.
I think lots of kids would enjoy it. I definitely did!
Remember the Library of Lost Dreams, where little girl Dahlia decided to explore the golden book and its adventure, well, do you know this library and this adventure goes long back.
Well, let's explore what the library has in this part. This part allows you to time-travel and go into hundreds of years in the past and meet the broccoli monster. Yes, you heard me right, Broccoli Monster and Memory Thief. The adventure was extraordinary and the Astra and the old library keeper again made the entire experience brilliant for us. Dahlia proved herself again with her courage and brilliance. While the little version of Astra's cuteness was overloaded.
The goodbye was difficult but I loved the reunion of Dahlia with her family. The illustration of the book is mesmerising and made the reading journey super entertaining.
Journey into the Past is a gripping and emotional next chapter in Dahlia’s magical world. Just when she thinks her adventure is over, she’s thrown hundreds of years back in time - straight into the moment a terrible mistake creates a new threat: The Memory Thief, a shadow that steals not dreams, but memories themselves. The stakes feel higher, the world feels darker, and Dahlia’s courage shines even brighter as she navigates ambition, betrayal, and buried pain to uncover the truth.
What makes this story unforgettable is the way it explores loss, regret, and second chances with so much tenderness. Dahlia doesn’t just fight to save the future, she learns to understand the brokenness behind a villain. The lively new apprentice adds joy and chaos in the best way, balancing tension with warmth.
A powerful, magical, and beautifully emotional sequel that lingers long after the last page.
Journey Into the Past by Andrei Goanta is the second magical installment in The Library of Lost Dreams, and this time, the story dives into missing memories and time travel. We follow Dahlia as she is pulled into the 17th century, where forgotten dreams power a mysterious world. The idea of memories being stolen and dreams giving energy to time itself is so beautifully imagined it instantly pulls you into the story.
What truly touched my heart is the message this book carries: kindness, hope, courage, and never giving up on dreams. Even though it’s written for children, the emotions hit just as deeply for adults. The story is short, warm, and emotional, with an ending that feels soft yet powerful. If you love gentle fantasy with meaning, beautiful lessons, and a comforting magical vibe this book is absolutely worth picking up.
This is second book the this beautifully written children's chapter book. Dahlia is now nine years old and in third grade and has been helping revive fading dreams in the Magical Library back home. In this book, an machine from the past brings her to the year of 1625. She needs to work with the Dream Keeper to save the Library and fund a way back home.
The chapters are short, easily read, and simple to understand; better understoodif the books are read in order. The illustrations are simply beautiful!
In my opinion, the books are easier and better read in physical form instead of on an e-reader, just because the pictures and layout of the book.
I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the second book in the series traveling back to the early time. The book opens with a fascinating library where Dahlia is found falling onto the stoned floor. The rupture almost engulfed her.
The book shows Astra, an owl, as a great supporting character.
How would Dahlia solve the mystery of time travel? Can she get back to her home?
The book is very exciting and full of fun. Dahlia's appearance makes the chapters full of emotions.
The colourful book depicts real life situations in a fun filled story.
The Keeper plays a resounding role in the storytelling.
Astra is very cute and intelligent to support Dahlia.
Overall the book is very interesting and unique. It's recommended to all to have the best of reading.
The second instalment is this series is just as enchanting and magical as the first.
Dahlia is now a year older and finds herself in the past with a new mystery to solve. There are many links back to the first book although it could be read as a standalone.
Once again the illustrations are absolutely stunning and add so much to the story which is full of adventure that will appeal to readers of all ages.
The writing style is beautiful and flows very smoothly.
I wish these books had been around when I was a child but I feel very blessed to be able to read them as an adult.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the second book in this series and it is amazing. In this book we get to learn more about the library and the keepers that protect it. We hear more heart wrenching tales. We find that the past holds more secrets than we know. And we learn that we can overcome those bad feelings. I love that these stories make you feel. They give you hope. And it’s a great book to read with your children. They will be entertained and want you to keep reading, just like mine did.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I enjoyed this adventure as the second book in this series. While we still follow Dahlia along on some adventures, in this story, she travels through a rift in time and finds herself in The Library, but in the past. Within this story, you learn more about The Library and the Keepers of the Library.
This story was a lot of fun to read. As a teacher, I am always looking for chapter books to read to my class that offer story building, with some dialogue. This book checks both of those boxes.
I recommend for anyone who wants to introduce children to fantasy (not fairy tale) reading.
Dhalia proves herself once again to be smart, brave and helpful to all of us, regardless of age. Reading the story, we can also hope for a return to important episodes from our own past, maybe we can make a different turn of events, or we can do whatever we want. Dahlia's kindness of soul for everything that is fragile, cute, and loving takes her on exciting and breathtaking journeys. 5 stars, so let's travel with her.
If you loved the first book, you won't be disappointed. This sequel takes Dahlia's story to a whole new level with time travel and a genuinely touching mystery. I was completely swept away by the adventure. The artwork is, once again, absolutely breathtaking and brings everything to life so vividly. Can't recommend it enough!
