He went apple-picking. He came back marked by the horned god.Theo Chambers thought a fall retreat in upstate New York would heal his burnout and boost his feed. What he found in the orchard was more than aesthetic fog and blood-red apples—it was a Veiled Place, where desire itself takes root.
Ashwyn, the horned guardian of the grove, has waited centuries for a human willing to surrender. His touch is ritual, his kiss is prophecy, and his hunger is worship.
Theo should run. Instead, he follows the music.
As Samhain night descends, the orchard awakens—and Theo must decide if he’ll return to his old life, or be remade as consort to a god who claims with vines, teeth, and devotion.
✨ In the Devil’s Orchard is Book One in The Hollow Veil Monster Novellas: standalone Halloween MM monster romances where broken men find themselves in the arms of something otherworldly.
Well, based on the cover and the title, I assumed I was going to get a cheesy, standard spooky read that would pass the time.
BOY WAS I FRIGGIN WROOOOOOONG.
First of all, I'm OBSESSED with the writing. So fluid and intelligent and engaging. THE TRUE DEFINITION OF A STORYTELLER. Seriously, the writing made me giddy.
Now, the story? I experienced it all. Every moment from start to finish. So good. The tension, the descriptions. The dreams that turned to reality. The acceptance.
The spicy scenes were SO GOOD. Imaginative and unique. Passionate and surprisingly sweet as well. I love me some monster scenes and the flexibilities authors can take.
I'm gonna be reading more from this author. SO UNDERRATED, y'all.
Lyrical horror at its finest! I love the mystical tone of the text in this one. There’s a reverence in the words which captures the forest god completely. I will say the erotica content sways more toward a male audience since there’s not a lot of emotional connection between the forest god Ashwyn and our influencer hero Theo. I’d consider this more erotic horror than anything. It’s a gorgeous piece of prose. I do think it is for a reader base looking for erotic horror rather than erotica. I’ll read more of Pierce Arden’s work in the future!
This is exactly what you think it is. I needed a palette cleanser, and when I saw a book with no reviews or ratings, my interest was piqued. I enjoyed the beginning most with the sort of unsettling watchfulness of Ashwyn.
