Demons are among the most misunderstood subjects in Scripture. Some deny their existence, while others obsess over them. But what does the Bible actually say?
In Demons in Scripture, Ancient Judaism, and the Early Church, Michael Taylor provides a thorough yet readable exploration of the origin, nature, and destiny of demons. Using both Old and New Testament texts, Greek and Hebrew word studies, and non-canonical sources like the Book of Enoch, this book exposes the reality of demonic deception while exalting the victory of Christ.
You will
The biblical vocabulary of demons and unclean spirits
How Jewish and early Christian writers understood demonic activity
The role of demons in paganism, idolatry, and false religion
The difference between possession, oppression, and temptation
How believers today can resist demonic influence and walk in freedom
Perfect for pastors, teachers, and serious students of Scripture, this book serves as both a scholarly resource and a practical guide for spiritual warfare. It does not glorify demons but magnifies the Lord Jesus, who has triumphed over them at the cross.
Demons are defeated. Christ is exalted. The truth will set you free.
The author does an excellent job in this book. It is easy to read and very practical—with enough technical description to keep the learned engaged. The author also rightly distinguishes between fallen angels and demonic spirits—a widespread error that many make. I’d recommend this book to anyone who wants an introduction to the demonic and who needs encouragement in the victory Christians hold over the kingdom of darkness.
Demons are real, and active, and this book does a good job at revealing those ancient truths that the church has testified to since its inception.
