Jaspreet: "Vancouver. Home. The scent of cardamom and cinnamon, the promise of my family's café reborn – that's what I needed after years of putting everyone else first. But then he walked back in. Vijay. My childhood best friend, now a world-famous shadow of the boy I knew. We're strangers, tangled in a past I thought I'd buried. And to make things worse, my engagement, a neat little box for my family, is about to explode. He stirs up everything I thought I’d settled, makes me question if ‘settled’ is what I truly want. I’m not the girl who left anymore. I’m stronger, I’m different, and I’m determined to find my own way, even if it means facing the ghost of what we were."
Vijay: "The roar of the engine, the flash of the spotlight – that's my life. But it's empty. Jaspreet. She's here, but she's not mine. Not anymore. The girl I pushed away, the one I never stopped thinking about, is engaged. Engaged. The word burns. My jealousy is a fire I can’t control. I thought I could bury my feelings, but seeing her again… it’s like ripping open an old wound. I know I messed up, I know I pushed her away. But I can’t lose her again. I won't. She was mine, and will always remain as mine."
Dnfing at 33% The fmc is still stuck on her best friend whom she's in no contact for 7 years. This woman is engaged and the guy is understanding, good. But she calls on the best friend saying she doesn't know if what she's doing is what she wants and then the best friend kisses her and asks if this is what she wants instead. I get that heart wants what it wants and it's fiction - not to be taken seriously but at no point I can justify cheating. Also the Punjabi rep was way too bad. Like if you don't know then don't put it?

Trust me when I say this, this is one of the only sports romance I could enjoy, It is !!!!
"Beyond the Apex" by Parveen B is an emotional, heartwarming, and beautifully paced second-chance romance that feels like a warm hug. 🤍 Set between the cozy streets of Vancouver and the adrenaline-fueled world of Formula 1, this story brings together love, ambition, and the weight of the past in a way that keeps you hooked from start to finish.
🏎️ Vijay Kaur - the golden boy of F1, charming, relentless, and deeply vulnerable. Beneath his success is a storm of insecurities such as jealousy, fear of loss, and the aching regret of not being there for the one person who mattered most.
☕ Jaspreet Gulati who is a fierce, independent café owner with a heart full of love and wounds she’s tried to bury. Her relationship with her dadu is one of the most beautiful aspects of the book. Also, seeing a strong, hearing-impaired heroine who embraces life with resilience was so refreshing. 💛
💔 A Past That Can’t Be Forgotten - Jaspreet and Vijay were once childhood best friends but were torn apart by a heartbreaking incident where he failed to be there when she needed him most. She left Vancouver for Amritsar, only to return years later... engaged to someone else. Enter Manveer-the obstacle that makes Vijay realize just how much he stands to lose.
🔥 What I LOVED: ✔️ The chemistry- not too fast, not too slow, just perfect. Every interaction between Vijay and Jaspreet felt earned and meaningful. ✔️ Vijay’s character development- seeing him grow, fight for her, and truly prove his love? Chef’s kiss. 👌❤️ ✔️ The sports element-F1 wasn’t just a backdrop; it was given the depth it deserved, making Vijay’s world feel authentic. 🏁 ✔️ The side characters- Jaspreet’s dadu , Vijay’s mother and even Manveer stood out in the best way, adding heart and wisdom to the story.
This book already had me hooked and is one of my top -reads of the year✨ If you love second-chance romance, heartfelt character growth, and a story that makes you feel, Beyond the Apex is one to watch out for. 💕
BETA READING!! 3.75 ⭐️ Recommend this book for all the F1 girlies and those looking for the perfect Punjabi (South Asian) rep!! Vijay and Jaspreet will steal your heart from the start!! Also loved the hearing aids rep!! Story was beautifully written!!
i dnfed this book at 50%. i wanted to love this book, with its cafe and formula one backdrops, its second chance romance themes and the wide variety of representation promised. and whilst the representation was beautifully written, i couldn’t get past certain inconsistencies (such as the japanese race seemingly being in tokyo...3 hours from suzuka where it actually is) and plot points that made this basically unreadable (most notably how she cheated on her fiance by kissing the love interest twice whilst still engaged and only dumping him practically at the altar) whilst i know others will enjoy this, i’m sorry to say this arc read was not it for me
